This sweet girl just brings so much joy to our home! (Go here and swipe to see an adorable video of her!)

We went to an amazing dinner for foster parents last week. Thank you to Church of the City for the way that they support foster parents in such tangible ways!

Silas won the Math Achievement award for having the highest math grade all year in his class. He loves math so much and I can’t wait to see what God has in store for his future using the ways that he is wired!

I was very impressed overall with the Impress press-on nails (they lasted 10 days!!) Full review coming soon!

Having older sisters means you are always getting your hair fixed in different styles!

It was an honor to get to be interviewed on The Doctors TV show recently about my new book, Love-Centered Parenting. You can watch the first part of the interview here and the second part of the interview here. (Psst! It’s probably not the kind of interview you were expecting if you’re not familiar with my book!)

This is what my life looks like a lot of times right now… and I wouldn’t trade it for the world. (Even though I occasionally do remember back fondly to when I got to sleep more than 3-4 hours at a time!)

I got to meet a few different new friends at new-to-me coffee shops in the past two weeks. Even though I don’t drink regular coffee anymore, I love visiting new coffee shops!

Fresh out of the bath!

It’s so fun to watch these two interact together!

We spent lots and lots of time at the baseball field the past two weeks because it was the end of the season tournament — and Silas’ team went all the way to the Championship game!

I bought some marked down unbaked cinnamon rolls and Silas had a great time making them.

He even made extra glaze for them.

Kierstyn approved of them!

Strategizing for the tournament games.

One-on-one dates with your kids: it’s often work to make them happen, but it’s so worth it!
Kaitlynn and I went to Holiday World (in Santa Claus, IN) last week with her friend and her friend’s mom. Yes, it took a bit of a juggling act to work it out so I could be gone —especially with two little ones, one who is nursing. But when Kaitlynn presented me with the idea, I put on my thinking cap and tried to figure out how to make it work. (My mantra as a mom: “Say yes as often as you possibly can!”) And, with Jesse’s help and some creativity, we figured out how to make Kaitlynn’s idea a reality!
It was such a special day and it was worth every bit of the Jenga-like-finagling required to make it happen. We rode roller coasters and screamed at the top of our lungs, we ate junk food, we challenged each other to go on rides that scared us, we laughed so hard, and we made memories I will cherish for years to come.
One-on-one dates with your kids don’t have to be an all-day trip to an amusement park. It could be a surprise trip to Sonic, or saying yes to baking cookies, or biking to the ice cream shop, or having a water balloon fight, or watching a show together, or playing a game, or having them teach you how to do something they love to do, or just sitting in their room on the floor and listening to their favorite music. Look for opportunities to say yes, to step into their world, to care about what they care about, to be interested in what they are interested in, to say “I love you” through actions and sacrifices and showing up for them. It’s always worth the effort

I love rollercoasters, so I was excited to get to go on rollercoasters again after quite a long break due to pregnancy and then Covid.

I couldn’t believe that Holiday World just had all of these drink kiosks all over the park — and it was all free with free unlimited refills!

Kaitlynn and I enjoyed this ride — though it took me about 3 seconds of holding my breath at the beginning to decide that I did, indeed, like it.

They also had free parking, free sunscreen, and free hand sanitizer (in addition to the free drinks!) at Holiday World (and tickets were only $30 per person for the whole day — and that included both the amusement park and the water park!

We finally figured out a way to fix her hair that looks cute, that she’ll not pull out, and that stays all day! It might look like a waterspout, but hey, it works!

Did I mention we spent a lot of time at the baseball fields the last two weeks?? 🙂

And finally, we are so proud of this boy… he has been learning so much recently and has started reaching for and interacting with toys!! This is a big deal and we are so excited for all the progress he is making.

Welcome to my book update post where I share what books I finished recently + my honest thoughts and star ratings of them.
For 2021, I set a goal of reading 3 books per week — 1 fiction book, 1 non-fiction book, and 1 audiobook each week. I know this is an audacious goal, but reading is something I love and it’s a way I learn, challenge my mind, improve as a writer and communicator, and am refreshed and encouraged through inspiring stories.
I have a few shelves full of books (mostly that I’ve gotten free), so I decided to choose 52 books from off my shelf to read this year (see my list of 52 books I plan to read in 2021 here). I’ll also read other books that I find/am sent that pique my interest. Plus, I plan to go through a lot of audiobooks (I get mine free from the Libby app).

Off the Clock: Feel Less Busy While Getting More Done
First off, I have to say that I have heard of the idea of time tracking for years. But up until I started listening to Off the Clock, I was not convinced it was worth the effort. It just felt like a lot of extra busywork.
If you’ve followed here for awhile, you probably know that I use a hybrid of Google Calendar + a Daily Time-Blocked To Do List to stay on track. I’m fairly efficient and productive by nature and tend to have a pretty high capacity and accomplish quite a bit most days.
In Off the Clock, Laura shares how beneficial it can be to actually see and track what we’re doing every minute of every day, instead of just going by what we feel or think we probably are doing most of the day. I was curious if tracking my time would reveal areas where I could improve or if it would just be a lot of time spent filling in little rectangles on a paper for a week! I wouldn’t know until I actually tried time tracking, would I?
Read more on how Laura’s book impacted me and what I learned from tracking my time.

Can’t Steal My Joy: The Journey to a Difference Kind of Brave
This is the heartbreaking story of what it’s like to walk through a really difficult diagnosis of your kids… one that ultimately takes their life. It’s also the story of what courage and confidence in Christ looks like in the face of deep pain, sorrow, and loss.
I was inspired and encouraged by what Bekah shared in this book. I think it would be a true encouragement to anyone you know who is walking through debilitating sickness or the loss of a child to illness.
My own critique is that the book kind of felt like it skipped around and I struggled to follow the story in places. I think there was so much good stuff in the book, but I would have loved a stronger story arc and editing.
Verdict: 3 stars

We finished the last story by E.B. White in this 3-book collection (all in one book). It’s one I’ve read before to the older three, but I really loved reading it again to Kierstyn.
It’s such a fun story — and it doesn’t turn out at all like you’d expect when you first start reading. If you have kids who are ages 5-8 (or so) who love animals and adventure in read alouds, I think they’d really love The Trumpet of the Swan. Have you read it?
What have you been reading recently? I’d love to hear! Share in the comments.

Reach Mobile is a service designed to provide high-quality phone and data plans at affordable rates. They pride themselves on having great coverage and fantastic customer service — all at a fair price. Interested in trying it out? Read this completely honest Reach Mobile review to help you decide!
{Psst! Be sure to check out all my other completely honest reviews, too!}

I had the opportunity to try out the Reach Mobile service and give an honest review. (This post is sponsored by Reach Mobile. Links used in this post are my affiliate links. All opinions are my own.)
If you are in the market for a new phone service or are looking to lower your monthly rates, I definitely recommend checking out Reach Mobile. As I’ll explore in this post, it may or may not be a good fit for you.

To get started with Reach Mobile (or to check and see how much it would cost to switch to Reach Mobile):
*Important note: As it states on their website: “At the time of activation, a temporary hold will be placed on your credit card for the total value of the plan purchased.” Reach explained to me that they do this in lieu of a credit check to ensure payment can be made successfully.
Depending upon the number of phone lines and the service you choose, Reach Mobile will be anywhere from $30/month for the Basic Plan up to $65/month for the Unlimited Plan for one phone. Each line comes with unlimited talk and text.
If you add more than one phone to your plan, the rates lower per phone. However, all data (except for the All-in Unlimited Plan) is shared — so if you choose the Basic Plan and you have two lines, you will be sharing the 3GB between the two lines.

One cool feature that Reach Mobile told me about when I chatted with their customer service was that you’ll only be charged for the data plan you use. So if you sign up for the People’s Choice 12GB plan ($55/month), but you only use 8GB that month, you’ll just be billed for the Moderate 8GB Plan ($40/month).
In addition, if you sign up through my link (or use coupon code MSM503 at checkout), you’ll get 50% off the first three months. This would be a great way to try out the service very inexpensively and if it’s not for you, you can cancel at the end of the three months.

According to Reviews.org: “Reach Mobile is a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO), which means it piggybacks on another network to provide coverage. In this case, Reach Mobile uses Verizon’s network, which just so happens to be the best in the country.
But there is a catch with Reach Mobile’s coverage. Since Reach is an MVNO, it can be deprioritized on the Verizon network. You might notice your data speeds and signal bars drop out of the blue, especially when you’re in a congested area. That’s because the Verizon network deprioritizes Reach Mobile users in favor of its own users.
Think of it like a big pizza pie. If you’re feeding a group of people with a single large pepperoni, there are only so many slices to go around. It makes sense that the folks who paid more for the pizza (Verizon users) should get the most slices, as opposed to the folks who paid much less for the pizza (Reach users).”
One of the things I love about Reach Mobile is their commitment to giving back. According to their website, “Reach contributes connectivity to Get a plan, Give a plan on behalf of every data plan, every month.”
They go on to say on their site: “When you purchase a data plan with us, we donate the value of 10% of your data plan to a shared pool, which is used to fund and provide connectivity to recipients around the world. Connections given through Get a plan, Give a plan are allocated to individuals associated with our three nonprofit partners in the US, India, and Nigeria. Every time you purchase a data plan with Reach Mobile, you’re providing connectivity to someone that desperately needs it.”
You can log into your account and see how much connectivity you have provided to others through your monthly data plan payments.

I’ll be honest, I am always skeptical when it comes to products and services that promise to be “The best” of anything. Reach Mobile makes a claim on their site that they are “The best mobile network. Period.”
I took it as a personal challenge to find some things that would debunk that claim. Because even though they paid me for my time to try out their phone service and write a review, I told them very clearly that my followers are my first priority, so I’d be writing a completely honest review of Reach Mobile review — complete with both pros and cons and my very real and truthful thoughts on their company.
But, I actually struggled to find things to say that were downsides of the company. In fact, I even went incognito and reached out to their customer service and role-played a sort of difficult customer persona and they were nothing but super kind and helpful to me.
I had to laugh when the only one-star review on the Android store was that it wasn’t compatible with their phone and the only two-star review was that it was a little pricier than other no-contract phone plans.

It’s less expensive than most phone plans. While Reach Mobile is a little more expensive than some of the other no-contract phone plans (especially if you have a pay-as-you-go plan), it’s a less expensive than many of the mainstream phone carriers — especially if you have multiple lines (the price goes down per line with each line you add). It’s definitely worth checking whether you would save by switching to Reach Mobile.
They have great 24/7 customer service. I was extremely impressed with their customer service. They offer 24/7 live chat and a customer service line you can call. They were prompt, pleasant, and patient — all a big plus in my book!
There are no contracts and no hidden fees. Reach Mobile is a no-contract (and no-credit check) mobile service without any hidden fees. They are very upfront about what you’ll pay and you pay on a month-to-month basis. You can cancel at any time and you’ll only pay for the month you cancelled in and then you’re done! Also, their contract-free devices don’t bind you to their service – you are free to leave if you choose to do so.
They have a referral program! For every email address that you share on their referral program section of their website, you’ll earn $1 in Reach credit; and for every friend that signs up and activates, you’ll each get $50 in Reach credit, which is applied automatically on the second billing cycle. (Don’t worry, they can thank you later!)

You have to provide your own phone. This could be a benefit; this could be a drawback, depending upon your situation. If your phone breaks or gets lost or stolen, you can’t go back to your phone company for any recourse for it. (We have insurance on our phones, so if they break or get lost, they will replace them for a much smaller fee than it would cost to buy a new phone.)
They don’t have local stores. Everything is done online or over the phone. So if you’re the kind of person who wants to be able to go in-store to talk with someone about your phone or phone plan, you won’t be able to do so.
If you have a shared plan, you have shared data. If you don’t use your phone for online streaming or video, this might not be a problem at all. However, for someone like me — who does Facebook Live, IG stories, IG lives, watches lots of IG stories and some videos on my phone, and uses my phone for tethering for Wifi on my computer — if I were on their shared data plans, I would be running out of data most months if I were sharing data with others. Note: If you use all your data before the month is up, you will be throttled to 2G without incurring any overage charges. You can purchase additional high-speed data for $5 for 0.5GB of data.
So there you have it! My very honest review of Reach Mobile. If you’ve used it before or use it currently, I’d love to hear about your experience with it!
