5-Day Homemaking Challenge (Assignment #5)

How to Eliminate 99% of the Paper Piles at Your House

It’s FRIDAY! And I’m celebrating! And I’m keeping the assignment very simple today:

Today’s Assignment

1. Get dressed in something that makes you feel great.

2. Make a short to-do list for the day.

3. Tidy up your kitchen — do the dishes and wipe the counter tops off.

4. Make your bed.

5. Straighten the main living areas of your home and celebrate the progress you made this week on de-cluttering!

The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up

I’m finishing up the last section of The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up (pages 174 to 206) and will blog my thoughts on it later today.

5-Day Homemaking Challenge: Day 4 Results (books & clothes)

So, these pictures might make book-lovers want to weep, but I can’t tell you how liberating these pictures are to me. I had a revelation about books yesterday and it was so eye-opening and pretty life-changing for me that if this is the one thing that sticks with me from reading The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up it’s going to make a big difference in my life.

I just recently had gone through our books and pared them down, so I was shocked that I felt inspired and motivated to pare down so much more! Instead of being overwhelmed by all the books I “should be reading”, my bookshelves now inspire and empower me.

I look at them and think about the memories that some of the books on them hold for me and then I look at those I have yet to read and am excited to read one or two each week over the next few months. They spark hope and life and joy in me, instead of speaking the message that I am not reading enough, am so far behind on reading, and should find a way to read more each day.

You can watch a little video I did on my bookshelves here, if you’re interested. What a difference perspective (and paring down!) can make!

I also went through my clothes and got rid of a few things. Plus, I toyed with trying the whole stand things up in the dresser drawers idea. And I decided that apparently it’s a learned art and I think I’m doing it all wrong.

But I snapped a picture so that at least you could see that I had tried. 🙂

Did you clean out your books today? Or do any other cleaning? Tell us about it in the comments.

How to Eliminate 99% of the Paper Piles at Your House

So I skipped doing the Homemaking Challenge myself yesterday so I could rest, but I’m feeling MUCH better today and am planning to tackle my closet and the books (I just recently went through all the books and pared them way down, so that should be an easy task for me.)

Here’s today’s assignment, if you want to join in:

Today’s Assignment

1. Get dressed in something that makes you feel great.

2. Make a short to-do list for the day.

3. Tidy up your kitchen — do the dishes and wipe the counter tops off.

4. Make your bed.

5. Go through your books — only keep those that you love and/or know for sure you’ll need or use in the future.

The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up

I’m also going to be reading through The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up (can you believe I haven’t read it?) and blogging my thoughts as I read the book this week, too. Today, I’ll be reading pages 130-173. I’ll have a post up with my thoughts later today.

Why I Skipped Doing the Homemaking Challenge Today

Why I Skipped Doing the Homemaking Challenge Today

{I saw the above quote online today and it cracked me up! I’m all about striving for greatness! ;)}

So, y’all, I flaked out on the Homemaking Challenge today. And I’m not going to apologize for it.

I woke up feeling wiped out today. I think that getting out yesterday was just too much for me. So after my Morning Motivation Periscope show, I went back to bed. And I mostly stayed in bed the rest of the day.

I’m usually someone who pushes hard, sometimes too hard. But the past two weeks have really challenged me to do a better job of giving myself grace and listening to my body.

Today, my body was begging for rest and quiet and multiple naps. So that’s what I gave it.

I hope to be feeling energetic enough to tackle my clothes tomorrow. But for now, I’d headed to bed for more sleep. Because I think that’s one of the best things I can do for myself right now.

Thanks for your patience with me — and for so many of you who are gently encouraging me to continue taking it easy and giving myself grace. I am listening to you! 🙂

P.S. If you need a laugh tonight, be sure to read this post over on Instagram.

How to Eliminate 99% of the Paper Piles at Your House

Who needs some motivation and inspiration to clear out some clutter?? ME!

So guess what that means? I’m bringing you all along with me. 🙂 I’m going to be clearing out clutter and re-organizing things at our house this week and I’d love for you to join me.

Every morning this week around 8 a.m. CT, I’ll post the assignment for that day. Then, at 8 p.m. CT, I’ll post my accomplishments for the day! You can either link up your blog posts (if you’re blogging about the challenge) or just tell us in the comments what you accomplished that day.

Today’s Assignment:

1. Get dressed in something that makes you feel great.

2. Make a short to-do list for the day.

3. Tidy up your kitchen — do the dishes and wipe the counter tops off.

4. Make your bed.

5. Go through your clothes — take everything out of your closets and drawers and go through each item and decide whether you love it and it fits. If not, get rid of it. Put the things you keep back in an organized manner.

The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up

I’m also going to be reading through The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up (can you believe I haven’t read it?) and blogging my thoughts as I read the book this week, too. Today, I’ll be reading pages 64-127. I’ll have a post up with my thoughts later today.

Today’s Homemaking Challenge Assignment Results: The Cleaning Supplies Closet!

5-Day Homemaking Challenge

So, we started back to our regular homeschool schedule today… and well, while it was a good day, I’m still really dragging. My doctor has cleared me to be able to get up and around, provided I take it easy.

I’m glad that I’m no longer sequestered to the sofa like I was this weekend, but man, I am still functioning in such low gear, it seems. Everything takes me twice or four times as long and then I have to stop and rest for awhile.

I did make it to the chiropractor this afternoon and then to a little bit of Silas’ baseball game tonight. But I felt like an old woman that I could only make it through two innings before I needed to come home and crash on the sofa.

However, I’m so happy to be getting a little stronger with each passing day. And I’m also really happy about how much sleep I’ve been getting!

The last two nights, I’ve been asleep by 9:30 p.m. — and then I’ve woken up before my alarm went off feeling completely rested. I can’t remember the last time that has happened two nights in row. Maybe I’ll actually turn this into a long-term habit??

5-Day Homemaking Challenge

Today’s project for the 5-day Homemaking Challenge was to tackle a closet. I chose the cleaning supply closet since it’s been in dire need of a makeover for months and months.

I posted this on Instagram and said: #KonMari comes to the cleaning closet! Yikes!! Taking everything out of one closet is a pretty scary task!

(Also, the black and white filter makes it look a little more artsy and a little less like total chaos, don’t you think?? If only there was a filter that could also whip this closet into shape with the touch of a button!) #reallife #homemaking #organization

So. much. better!
