Who needs some motivation and inspiration to clear out some clutter?? ME!
So guess what that means? I’m bringing you all along with me. 🙂 I’m going to be clearing out clutter and re-organizing things at our house this week and I’d love for you to join me.
Every morning this week around 8 a.m. CT, I’ll post the assignment for that day. Then, at 8 p.m. CT, I’ll post my accomplishments for the day! You can either link up your blog posts (if you’re blogging about the challenge) or just tell us in the comments what you accomplished that day.
Today’s Assignment:
1. Get dressed in something that makes you feel great.
2. Make a short to-do list for the day.
3. Tidy up your kitchen — do the dishes and wipe the counter tops off.
4. Make your bed.
5. Go through your clothes — take everything out of your closets and drawers and go through each item and decide whether you love it and it fits. If not, get rid of it. Put the things you keep back in an organized manner.
I’m also going to be reading through The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up (can you believe I haven’t read it?) and blogging my thoughts as I read the book this week, too. Today, I’ll be reading pages 64-127. I’ll have a post up with my thoughts later today.
Who’s joining me? Leave a comment to let me know if you’re planning to participate!

Hello everyone!! Crystal I am so glad to hear of this challenge!! My family & I just relocated to Austin, Texas from Southern California and I now realize that we have way TOO much stuff!! These challenges will most def help me thin out what we really don’t need. I am excited to get started and to follow along!!

PLEASE! Do not declutter your bookshelves by donating to the public library unless you are happy with them going to the book sale. ASK first if they want donations! I’m a librarian and I’ve written on this before here and elsewhere. Ask first. Book sale is the usual place donations go.
Other options for EXCELLENT condition books–again always ask first!!! Half-way houses, court waiting rooms, women’s shelters.

Ok. I will do my best! I already started but let’s see how this holds up! =) Thanks for the challenge.

Are you doing your children’s clothing today, too? That would be a serious challenge for me. I feel like I have a fairly good handle on my clothing (though there is always room for decluttering!), but their closet overwhelms me 🙂

Regarding the book, I am somewhat interested in it, but I am wondering how the author’s methods play out in reality with young children and a spouse, anyone? Maybe I will ask again when Crystal blogs specifically about this book. It seems like some of what is in the book might not be as realistic for someone living with/ parenting young children.

Hi Crystal!…and the MoneySavingMom Crew! I’m down with the 5-Day Homemaking Challenge! I’m 31 weeks pregnant, and I missed day 1, but I’m going to give myself grace and do what I can. My home already looks and feels great. Thanks for all you do Crystal! 🙂

Yay! I’m so glad you are reading this book too. I’ve been reading it this summer, but couldn’t get enough motivation and time and do a thorough de-cluttering. I would love some motivation. 🙂

I have a fairly minimalist wardrobe so didn’t have a lot to begin with. That said, I still found about 10 things to donate that I really have no idea why I was keeping since I didn’t really like them for one reason or another. Felt so good to put them in the donation box!

Yay!!!

In a funny twist of coincidence, I finally got my hands on a copy Marie Kondo’s book this week after being on the library’s wait list for months! I just got caught up on MSM posts, and am hopping in here. I did my clothes first, as KonMari recommends. I thought I was pretty minimal in my clothing, but found 40 items that didn’t spark joy. But then I wanted to clear out the rest of the junk I’ve been storing in my closet, so I went to the hall closet to get rid of extra blankets to make a spot for my present stash. But there were also winter coats in with my blankets, so I went on to the front closet, sorted through all the coats, hats, gloves, snow pants, and gave everything breathing room in both closets. In all, I ditched 80 items this morning!

Woot! Woot! This makes me so happy to hear!

That is really incredible! Way to go! Are you just going to donate it all, so it’s gone quickly?
Sarah T. says
I had 2 practically new electric blankets I’m selling, but yep, just donating! I find most things (especially my formerly thrifted items) don’t fetch much of anything most of the time, and aren’t worth my trouble.

I’ve heard that book is fantastic. I look forward to reading it myself sometime soon.

Woo hoo!! Love getting rid of the clothes we don’t wear. Taking the clothes that don’t fit my son anymore to church tonight to pass down, and the ones I can’t wear anymore to the consignment shop. Love how our closets look. Much better!!! Love these challenges, and love seeing the other comments from your readers. I feel like I know these girls.
