For September’s 12 Months to a Healthier You Challenge, we’re focusing on clearing out clutter. I committed to spend 30 minutes to an hour every week de-cluttering at my house.
Yesterday, I had a few hours at home by myself because Jesse took all three kids to Kathrynne’s swim team practice. So I went around and did some de-cluttering.
I got a little distracted by things that needed to be cleaned in the process, but when my 30 minutes were up, not only did I have a tub of items to get rid of, I also had a cleaner house. So it was a win all around!
Did you do any de-cluttering this past week? If so, how’d it go for you?

I made it my goal to get rid of 5 items per week this month. I’ve let things build up, so out of the 20 total items that would be, I’m at 8. Not great, but not terrible either. I still have a weekend to get the other 12 items, which I think is pretty doable! But I have the same question I saw earlier, about selling stuff online. Any of you waiting for that or do you just go ahead and give it away to get it out of there?

This past week we declutter my son’s closet. I hadn’t really looked in there all summer. Out of sight, out of mind, so we had a mess to tackle. It looks so much better though.

So in need of a “de-cluttering” session! What seems to be filling up every extra inch of my space are blankets, pillows, comforters, sheets, etc. No one ever wants to get rid of a good blanket or the quilt granny knitted for you… 🙂
How can I store these types of things or what can I do with them. Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

I don’t have a very large clothing closet, but I did manage to find three things hiding in there that I haven’t worn in well over a year. They are now sitting in wait (until I have a larger pile) to get donated.

During this busy season, my boys’ rooms are not kept as straight as we’d like. We were stepping on too many things, which was stressful! In came the big black bag and out went many things. They will be stored for 6 months and if no mention was made of an item, out it goes- usually 1-2 items out of dozens come back in the house.
I also sold 4 items for $50 on ebay, although this is a slower way of decluttering.

I got rid of 3 more boxes of stuff in our master bedroom. The pile of leftovers from the room that was once a school area and now a bedroom has been reduce to half now thanks to this challenge and I am hoping to keep it up until it is all gone. I really like decluttering to a short (8 to 12 minute) podcast each day. Sometimes if I miss a day I double up the next day. I am improving my mind and home at the same time.

Are you just donating everything, or are you making any money? I an getting rid of a lot this month, but some of it is holding me up because I’m listing it on Craigslist and it’s not selling quickly. Thanks for your tips!

I’ve been trying to declutter the last few weeks in anticipation of a move next year. When I feel like it, I just set my microwave timer and take 15 mins every few days to declutter. Works well.

Good job! I also like when you mention what kind of things or what areas of the hues you decluttered that week 🙂

I believe it would be nice if you shared some of the criteria you use to declutter.

Here’s the criteria I use: https://moneysavingmom.com/2010/04/5-questions-to-ask-yourself-about-clutter.html
