The Gold Star Membership is $65 per year and the least expensive option. However, it’s more like $20 when you factor in the $45 bonus gift card!
Costco very rarely, if ever, offers a discount on their membership prices… however, they will incentivize with gift cards.
The main benefit of the $130 Executive Membership is a 2% reward on all Costco purchases. Depending on your spending habits, you might be able to earn enough rewards to recoup your entire membership cost. However, even if you don’t spend enough to recoup your costs, you get a check, up to $60, for whatever cost you don’t recoup each year — making the Executive Membership essentially the same price as the Gold Star.
Currently, when you join or renew with your AAA membership, you can receive a one-time $20 or $10 Costco Shop Card.

Interesting comments but I still don’t see why Costco is better than Sam’s. Sam’s runs the new customer deal every year, usually found on Groupon. Is Costco cheaper, are there other advantages?
