Last week I didn’t go grocery shopping as our children were in various stages of the most aggressive and longest stomach virus that has ever hit our family. 🙁 My husband made a couple of “emergency” trips to the store for a few things, sweet friends stopped by with food, and we survived! I didn’t need to buy as much this week since we still have things to use up, but it felt great to get out of the house again. 🙂

Just wondering what you’re planning as far as a recipe with the crab. I’ve often looked at it but not sure what to do with it!
Kim,
I’ve made really great quesadillas with the packages of crab before–just like chicken with cheese, salsa and salsa and whatever you like only substituting with the crab. Delicious 🙂 I also like to just snack on it right out of the package…

I am so not into the crab with cheese combo…just does not appeal to me. Any other suggestions? I guess just checking out crab recipes and using these as a sub would work, right? I’ve never tried them and always wondered if the texture/taste was really close enough to work. Also if you heated them, did they soften and lose the texture of real crab? Do they have an extreme “fishy” taste to them? Is it necessary to hide it with another strong flavor?
I actually have no idea what I m going to do with it. It was cheap, and I like trying new things. I figured I would just google it and find something that looked good. 🙂
I love it! Keep us posted and let us know what you make and how it comes out…and most importantly: will kids eat it!
I saute the crab in butter with some garlic, then add in some cooked spaghetti noodles. My 13 year old son loves it!
I’m sorry that your family has been sick. It’s awful when everyone feels bad. I love your menu this week. I will be trying the spaghizza and cheesy hashbrown potatoes in the future. I always look toward to your posts because you share such great, budget friendly, recipes. I did try the oven fried chicken and it turned out really well. I will spice it up a little more the next time I make it, but I thought it was a great basic recipe. 🙂
Awww – thanks! 🙂
How does it work out using purée for the pancakes instead of cottage cheese. I easily have purée more available. Does it taste/texture turn out the same?
We like it. It is not exactly the same, but it is good. I add cinnamon too. The idea isn’t original with me. 🙂 I always make lots of puree in the fall when pumpkins are cheap, so it’s much cheaper for me than the cottage cheese
Uck! Our 2 yr old grandson had that two weeks ago and it was bad. Glad you all survived!
Sorry about your grandson. 🙁
Oooh, sorry to hear this. There’s not much worse than dealing with a bad stomach virus. We had one hit the whole family on our son’s first birthday. We were so sick and weak we were literally laying on the floor where we dropped. It was wretched but blessedly only lasted 48 hours.
p.s. I’ve made really good quesadillas before with the crab classics
I am sorry you had a bad stomach virus experience as well. I never got it, but it lasted 6 entire days for each of my three older children. Crazy! Thanks for the tip about the crab classics. I have never bought them before, but they were cheap and I like to try new things. 🙂
Bridgette, how do you get a $0.50 refund for Greek yogurt from Checkout 51? I do not see that offer in my account. Glad that your family is feeling better! Thanks ☺
Checkout 51 offers are not the same for everyone. 🙁 I am sorry you didn’t get the same one!
That is alright! Thanks for getting back to me
great to know your family is well now. just a query, how many gallons of milk does your family use in a week. We’re a family of 4 – 2 adults 2 kids and we use atleast 3. wondering if we’re doing something different?
We don’t drink milk – only use it for our cereal (and a couple of us drink homemade almond milk instead), so we only go through a gallon a week. This is what works for our family, but I know this wouldn’t work for everyone.
Thank you for the reply. Homemade almond milk does sound interesting. You should consider doing a post on doing that the right way, would definitely help novices like me.
