Easy Ways to Save Money and Make Money

Since many of us are still at home quite a bit, I thought it might be fun to put together a list of ideas for easy ways to save money and make money — all from home!

10 Easy Ways to Save Money & Make Money at Home

1. Become a Usability Tester

Did you know you can get paid for testing out websites? Yes! This is a legit and fairly lucrative way to earn side income if you are thorough and detail oriented. Find out more here and see a list of companies that hire usability testers here.

2. Sign Up for Swagbucks

This is one of my favorite ways to earn free gift cards! You’ll earn points for searching the web, taking surveys, shopping online, taking polls, watching videos, and much more. These points can be redeemed towards prizes or gift cards. For suggestions on how to earn the most with Swagbucks, read my Complete Guide to Swagbucks.

3. Take Surveys

You won’t get rich taking surveys, but they are a fun way to bring in a little extra cash each month. Plus, you can often do them while you’re relaxing or watching a show at night. Here are my best tips for making money by taking surveys + my favorite companies to sign up with.

4. Scan Your Receipts

You can earn a few dollars (or points toward a gift card!) every week — just by taking a few minutes to scan your receipts. You don’t have to buy anything differently than you usually would buy, and you can even scan online receipts!

Some of my favorite apps to use are: Fetch Rewards, iBotta, Coin Out, Swagbucks, and Checkout 51.

5. Use Up What You Have

Now is a great time to go through your pantry, fridge, and freezer and deep clean. Pull out anything that needs to be used up or that you forgot about and challenge yourself to find a creative way to use it. You can check out this list of pantry recipes for some ideas.

In addition, if you have inspiration, what about cleaning out your closets and seeing if you have clothes you’ve forgotten about or craft supplies you haven’t used.

6. Download Free eBooks

If you love to read, now is a great time to take advantage of the completely free two-month Kindle Unlimited trial. It gives you access to over 700,000 eBooks and thousands of audiobooks! Sign up for it completely free here.

Also, if you love audiobooks, check to see if your library is offering free audiobooks through the Libby app.

7. Take Advantage of Free Educational Programs

Many educational companies are offering amazing freebies and deals to aid parents with at-home education for their kids! Check out this HUGE list of great freebies here.

8. Offer Your Freelance Services

Want to pick up some freelance work from home — such as graphic design, data entry, video editing, blog design, research projects, writing, editing, and more? Find and bid on freelance jobs at Fiverr or Upwork. Best of all, sometimes these small jobs can turn into longer term positions or more contract work for companies, if you do a great job and they love your work!

9. Do Some At-Home Workouts

Get your heart pumping and the endorphins flowing! There are a lot of great free at-home workouts you can do without even having to leave the house or pay for a gym membership.

10. Enjoy Time Together as a Family

There are so many fun activities you can do together at home as a family without breaking the bank. Now is a great time to take advantage of frugal at-home fun that doesn’t cost money. You’ll save money on entertainment costs simply by staying at home and spending quality time together.

  • Thanks Crystal! When you said, “Scan your receipt” I at first thought you meant “scan it with your eyes”. I scan my receipts (with my eyes) before I leave the store, and last week I realized I was charged $9 too much because the bananas were rung up as grapes. It’s surprising to me how often there are errors on my grocery receipts! Thanks for the ideas!

I’ve never hear of CoinOut, the rest I already use. Also Kellogg’s website offers
a points system for receipts and tons of other things similar to these other places. I also use ReceiptPal, Flipp, RetailMeNot, and NCP. Since December between all of these things we’ve received over $100 for the things we buy already.
