This summer, I’m taking the Get Your Pretty On Summer Style Challenge.
So far, I’m loving this challenge and can’t believe how much it’s encouraging me to get dressed in a cute outfit every day, try some new outfit pairings, and just enjoy putting together looks. Plus, I LOVE the Facebook Group where women share their own variation of each day’s outfit.
I thought it would be fun to share a round-up of my outfits from this past week in hopes that it might inspire you with ideas and or encourage you to take a little time to mix and match items you already have to create some cute outfits!
(Want to see more outfits? See last week’s What I Wore post.)
Here’s what I wore this week:
It was rainy and dark this day, so the lighting is bad on this photo. I love this outfit, except I don’t love the jewelry. I thought I did — until I saw the picture! It’s too much and it doesn’t look like it matches.
Shirt: Amazon — no longer available in blue 🙁
Jeans: Zulily
Shoes: Amazon
Jewelry: Amazon and Kohl’s Clearance Rack
This outfit was so perfect for cleaning, hanging out with my family, running errands, grocery shopping, and a half day of blog/business work!
Shirt: Cents of Style
Shorts: Stitch Fix
Shoes: Amazon
Jewelry: Kohl’s Clearance Rack
I think these shoes are super cute, but I’ve decided they are not super cute ON me. That the style not only doesn’t work for shorts, I just think it doesn’t work for me, period. Which is sad, because I usually have really great success with shoes on Amazon. Oh well. 🙁
I wore a dress again today (something I rarely do!) I love that this style challenge is really pushing me outside of my comfort zone!
Dress: Stitch Fix
Earrings: Amazon
Shoes: Amazon
I’m not sure that I love this dress with these shoes, but I was trying to make it look a little more casual since I was wearing it all day.
This was by far my favorite outfit of the week. I just love it on all counts!
Shirt: Amazon
Jeans: Stitch Fix
Jewelry: Kohl’s Clearance Rack
Shoes: Zulily
This was a different style for me… it was the day I tried to go for a Victorian sort of mash-up look! 😉
I didn’t think I liked this shirt at all, but so many of you convinced me that it really looks good, so I think maybe it could grow on me. I don’t like how easily it gets wrinkled nor how high the neckline is (it almost felt like it was choking me!)
However, after seeing the photo, I know I don’t love the shirt with these shorts. I think it’d look cuter with white jeans or other light colored jeans.
Top: Amazon — it’s just $7 shipped on Amazon
Shorts: Stitch Fix
Jewelry: Amazon
Shoes: Zulily
Do you know what I’ve definitely learned from this challenge? That taking photos of my outfits every day and posting them feels very vulnerable but it’s also incredibly helpful because I’m learning more what styles I like, what works and what doesn’t work, and what an outfit really looks like. This has been fun and stretching for me, but it’s also causing me to step back and redefine some of my long-held style preferences and tastes.

Crystal,
WOW! I never thought to look on Amazon for clothing….at least for myself! I’m getting those earrings. Gorgeous! There’s nothing better than shopping from home 🙂 Everything is so pretty on you…great colors too!

So, I think they might have done away with the referral, but if you sign up and use the mobile app you can still get $10 off and $25 off and I think it’s 40% site wide now? My fave is how modest and.form fitting the dresses are and they have pockets! Modest cut necklines and knee to below knee length dresses (which I thought might look unflattering on a short girl like me). Every time I wear my one eshakti dress, I literally get 3-5 compliments on it. Not as cheap as old navy, but for a modest cut, customized fit, you can’t get any better really. Stick with jersey, crepe, and softer cotton blends vs poplin.
Susie says
I think I spotted a few other commenter saying the same thing, but I personally think the dress with the sandals pairing looks the absolute best on you–makes you look really fresh, youthful and feminine. You shoukd wear dresses more! They are super easy. I like getting midi skirts with pockets because they are so practical and give a nice a-line look. Also, you should check out eshakti for vintage dresses that you can get customized. I recommend crepe or other materials but not poplin as those wrinkle. I get tons of compliments. I’m not sure if there’s a referral code right now, but there has in the past, so if ur interested I can refer you and you used to get something like $35 off?

I really liked the floral print dress with that particular pair of shoes. They went well together.

I’m loving the GYPO challenge too! Keeps me from getting in a rut. I am excited to use the packing list she posted on vacation this week!
Crystal Paine says
Yes! We’re going on a two-week road trip a week from today and I’m excited to take what I’ve learned from this challenge and apply it to packing for vacation!

Do you happen to have the links to amazon for the two cold shoulder tops? Love all the outfits. You look great!!
Crystal Paine says
I added the link to the one — it’s no longer available in blue, though. 🙁
The other one’s description on Amazon was PinkWind Women’s Summer V Neck Cut Out Cold Shoulder Shirt Tops L Royal Blue. It’s no longer available and I really can’t find anything similar. Which is a shame because it was only $14! 🙁

Thank You!!

I LOVE these posts… could you do one on how to search on amazon for well priced clothes? I have not quite figured that out yet 🙂 a lot of your cute shirts you buy from them only go up to sizes 8-10… which, if your build is a little larger (I’m more like a 10-12 in tops depending on the fit)… means they won’t work! but, I’m adoring the styling… your modest while still being cute! thanks for the inspiration!!!
Crystal Paine says
I talk a little bit about it in this post: https://moneysavingmom.com/2017/02/top-3-favorite-sites-get-great-deals-clothes.html
I think my biggest advice is be willing to dig and try different search terms and then keep looking at “Customers Who Bought This Also Bought” and also the “Sponsored Posts Related to This Product”.

Honestly, I think every single outfit and peace looks great. The only thing I would change on any of them would be smaller earrings on the first outfit. Other than that, I my eyes, they all work great!

Thank you so much!

I used to take pictures of my outfits a lot more than I do now and I know that it really helped with my style. You *might* just be convincing me that I should start taking pictures again. You look cute in all your outfits! You are also making me impatient for my hair to grow longer so I can do more cute styles. (I’m currently growing it out from having it in a pixie cut)
Crystal Paine says
It’s amazing what I’m learning from it! I totally didn’t expect that!
Christine says
I personally love the first picture/outfit the best EXCEPT for the earrings. They don’t go with the necklace or shoes. I LOVE THE NECKLACE…FOR YOU AND THIS OUTFIT! The earrings should be wood toned or wood like the shoes and I’d give this outfit 10 out of 10. Your best day, imho!!!
Crystal Paine says
Thank you! I thought the earrings looked okay in the mirror and then when I saw them in the picture, I was like, “What?? Those do not look good!!”
Sarah says
You must really like the cut out shoulders! I think they would bug me! I like the be still outfit. Also, you’ve definitely come a long way from your beginning blogging days!
Crystal Paine says
I do like them — especially on hot days! And they are also part of the style challenge, so that’s why you’re seeing them more as part of the style challenge! 🙂

I said it last week & saying it again, You look super cute in dresses. I love the outfit w/ the white jeans but I think your right different jewelry would look better. Try it again w/ something else & I bet you will like it 🙂 thanks for sharing
Crystal Paine says
I’m definitely going to try it again… and if anyone has great dress recommendations that are really inexpensive, I’m all ears.
Laura says
Old Navy has really cute and super comfy jersey swing dresses this summer–sleeveless and T-shirt style. They are easy to dress up with sandals/heels and jewelry or dress down with Converse. You can catch them on sale for $10-15.
Crystal Paine says
Thank you so much for the suggestion!
Megan says
I think the sandals in the Be Still outfit look cute 🙂 That’s my favorite outfit of the week!:)
Crystal Paine says
I love that shirt and those shorts and the earrings! They are three of my favorites in my closet and ones I wear over and over again!
Lisa Murphree says
You look cute in the dress and shoes.
I like the victorian type shirt. It looks very nice on you.
