Sounds like a great opportunity, especially in tiring times like these. It is certainly great to teach children and to be able to pick your own schedule is a dream come true.
I have a bachelor’s degree and a bit of teaching experience. I will be applying for VIPKID, I hope I get accepted.
Thanks for the article, it will certainly help a single mom like me to make some money on the side
Let us know how it is once you’ve taught a little! We love to get reader feedback! -Jordan, MSM Team
I have worked for VIPKid for that past 3 years when I left my full-time teaching of 20 years to homeschool my own child that needed more one-on-one. I will say that not everyone starts out the top of the pay scale but you can definitely work your way up. I love it because I can pick my schedule and it works great for a family of 4 with 2 teenagers now. I do work 7 days a week but that is my choice, as I don’t neglect my on my sleep. It has replaced my full-time teaching income however without benefits but it works for our family at this current season we are in. You must have a bachelor’s degree as others have said. You don’t have anything to lose if you love to teach and loves kids. I recommend it to all those teachers that burning out in the classroom.

You will love this work at home opportunity! You don’t need to be a classroom teacher, just hold a Bachelor’s degree. This has been an immense blessing for my family and gives you the flexibility to stay at home with your own children.
Thank you for sharing your honest review and experience! We’re so happy to hear it has worked out so well for you! -Jordan, MSM Team
I also work for VIPKid and love it. I’ve been with them for al little over a year now and I’m excited to get up every morning and teach the my sweet students. Depending on the time, type of class, how many you’ve taught in that month and a few other variables, you can easily make 18-22/hr. It’s great! You choose when you want to teach and how often. I highly recommend it.

I have workked for VIPkid for 3 years and it has been such a blessing for our family. Unfortunately, because of new legislation regarding independent contractors, VIPkid can no longer hire teachers who live in CA. Current teachers can continue, but they cannot hire new CA teachers.
Thank you for sharing your experience and for letting us know that information about California! -Jordan, MSM Team
What type of things do you teach of you’re not required to speak Chinese? How do you communicate?
VIPKID is a legit, credible job and a fun way to make a chunk of change. (We’ve been able to replace ALL of our appliances this year and purchase a new-to-us Honda Pilot with my income!)
That’s so amazing! Thank you for sharing your experience! -Jordan, MSM Team
Wow! Can you give a little more info? If it’s not too personal could you tell me about how much you make and about how many hours you work in a week?
I’m very interested, but I don’t have any experience in teaching. I do have two children that I’ve helped with homework, etc. I do have a bachelor’s degree also. How do they evaluate your experience?
It’s $9/ 25 minute class. That bumps to $10 if you teach more than 45 classes in a month. They don’t take out taxes, so make sure to set some aside each month if you sign up.
You pick your hours by opening up slots on a calendar. The student then signs up for your time slots. The most popular time slots are early morning or late at night. Hope that helps!
I work for VIPKID and love it! I also work for another online ESL company — Gogokid — and they pay very well also. Perfect for the stay at home momma looking for a side hustle.
Thanks for sharing your experience! -Jordan, MSM Team
What a great idea – would have never known about it if I didn’t find it here.
Thanks for great post
It really depends! I have friends who are happily booked with VIP, and know many others with my experience. Thanks so much for sharing about online ESL! It’s such a fun job (if you can even call it that!) and has been a HUGE blessing to our family! : )
I am a homeschooling, stay-at-home mom and this supplemental income has been a blessing to our family. If you have a bachelor’s degree (in any field) and at least one year’s experience working with kids, you can apply!
I have two friends who do VIP kids and love it. They get a lot of kids. The kids want to learn and are motivated. And if a student doesn’t click, they can choose not to tutor them. They are tougher in the interview process then they used to be.
Thanks for sharing about your friends’ experiences! -Meg, MSM Team
This looks interesting.
You cannot choose not to tutor a student. A student can choose a different tutor, but the tutor does not have that ability. I just want people to be aware.
Just to clarify so incorrect info doesn’t spread:
We can’t block students from our schedules. The parents choose the teachers, and the only exception is if a student does something grossly inappropriate on video.
But I agree with the rest. VIPKid is the absolute best!! I’ve worked there for 2 1/2 years. I’m so thankful for this job and my students.
