Welcome to my weekly life update where I share about my pregnancy & give you a peek into our life this past week. If you want to follow a lot more behind-the-scenes and real-time updates every week, be sure to follow my stories and posts on Instagram.
13 weeks!!! And I had to have my picture taken in the kitchen because I COOKED DINNER three times this week!!!
HIGHLIGHTS
I feel like I came back to life this week and it is AMAZING to be functioning again at at least 50% of my normal pace compared to barely functioning the past 6 weeks. I forgot how good I used to feel! Also, I was able to start eating my daily salads again, which made me so happy!!
CRAVINGS
Um, should confess that my big craving this week was Taco Bell tacos again?!?
NOTABLE
Jesse’s dad (who owns a medical equipment servicing business) sent us a really fancy doppler that’s he’s letting us borrow for the pregnancy. It’s so amazing to get to hear the baby’s heartbeat at home!
Also of note: I’ve outgrown the majority of my wardrobe. The maternity clothes I have are still huge on me, but I’m going to have to get creative with outfits over the next few weeks until I can fit into my maternity clothes! The kids continue to be so shocked by my growing size and I keep telling them they haven’t seen nothing yet!
WEIGHT GAIN: 5.5 lbs.
P.S. Do you consider the second trimester to start in week 13 or week 14?! The internet seems very conflicted on this.
Jesse and Kathrynne ran the Spartan Race last week and had a blast doing it.
Kathrynne ended up finishing a few minutes before Jesse! 🙂
Silas and Kaitlynn ran the Spartan Kids’ race while Jesse and Kathrynne ran their race and had a great time doing so!
And the fun after the race… getting all cleaned up. 🙂
What I’m…
Reading right now: I Will Always Write Back (I finished this and really enjoyed it, especially since I’m so passionate about South Africa. Do note that it has a little bit of language and somewhat more mature themes in it in places so I’d read through it before handing it off to a child to read.)
Watching right now: Silas, Kaitlynn, and I have continued to enjoy watching The Masked Singer. We’ve also been watching Dancing with the Stars.
Listening to right now: I’ve been listening to recent episodes of The Sorta Awesome show this week.
Loving right now: Mint Majesty tea with cream and honey (someone sent this to me as a gift and it is SO good!)

A few thoughts and a question in no particular order:
– You are adorable and so tiny that your teeny tiny pregnant belly reminds me of a “food belly” I get after a large meal – LOL!
– I second what someone said above. Try a pair or two of pants in a size up from your normal. I found I felt more comfortable until I was large enough to wear actual maternity clothes AND I appreciated having them after giving birth so I had something to wear besides maternity clothes but before I could get into my normal clothes.
– Your basket behind the cooktop is cute but every time I see a photo of it my safety minded brain screams FIRE DANGER!! My mom was a bank manager. They had a little two burner cooktop for employees to heat up soup or whatever. Anyway, one of the employees caught a little basket on fire that was on the counter nearby!
– And now for my question…I love chai lattes but I’ve not quite figured out the cream in tea thing yet. How much do you add and does it not separate in the hot tea?? Inquiring minds really want to know! 😉

Jesse and the kids always move the basket when they cook. I never think of it since I cook on the front burners! But they are so good about moving it when they do!
The only time I’ve found cream to get messed up in tea is if it’s a tea that has any sort of fruit or citrus. Then it will “clot” up.

Crystal,
I have been following your family for years and am so excited for you! You touched me when you reached out almost immediately after my husband lost his job and I commented many years back. I related to your journey with Silas because we were doing the same; ours is named Jake (aged 10, student council editor, arachnid and hunting enthusiast). It’s been fun to watch the girls grow up and become more beautiful and strong each day. Our girl is 18 and just graduated. We are taking advantage of the Starbuck’s education reimbursement program which I strongly encourage every parent to look into. She loves her job as a barista as was recently promoted to shift manager. Better yet she may well come out of college with no crippling debt! Thanks for all the inspiration and sharing so much with us over the years. God bless!

Aw, thank you so much for your kind words of encouragement. And that is AMAZING about your daughter graduating without crippling debt! I love that!!

So glad you’re feeling better! I always considered it 14 weeks, since implantation can vary so much. Also, I prefer the first trimester to drag on more than the next two, given how early I found out each time. 🙂
Crystal Paine says
Yes! I feel like the first trimester is always the longest and then it sort of FLIES by! Well, the last few weeks can kind of drag on sometimes, too! 🙂

Crystal, what slippers/boots are you wearing in your adorable pregnancy pic this week? I am always looking for supportive comfy slippers to wear around the house because I have bad feet and can’t go barefoot.
Crystal Paine says
They are probably not the best house shoes since they have platforms in them (we were getting ready to head out the door shortly after this picture was taken) but they are very comfortable! They are Brash from Payless that I got off of Amazon last year and I LOVE them. Unfortunately, since they are Payless brand and Payless went out of business, there are hardly any sizes left: https://amzn.to/2NjUkj1

Hi! I am a small, petite woman-4’11 105 lbs and with both pregnancies I did buy maternity jeans and a maternity swim suit. All my other clothes, tops etc I would just buy a few sizes up so i never really had true maternity clothes. You can bargain shop for these too, clearance sections etc…. Enjoy your pregnancy! God Bless! Cheryl

I’ve heard of a lot of people doing that and it seems like such a smart idea! I want to try doing that some this time… though my belly usually gets SO big that it’s hard for me to envision regular clothes actually fitting around it! 🙂

When your pants are just to small, take a rubberband & loop it through the button hole & over the button so you can keep wearing same pants. I know its not your first rodeo but i found this very helpful & didnt know widely popular this way. Good luck & congrats.

I’ve heard about this working so well for people. Unfortunately, I can’t stand how it feels… probably because I’m HSP and how clothes fit is something that I’m super picky about!
