I had some leftover ham in the freezer from making Ham & Beans last week, so I pulled it out and used it to make a favorite of ours — Ham & Cheese Pockets.
The next night, there was still a little ham left, so I made scrambled eggs with ham, onions, and cheese and we had homemade mini waffles, too.
I found some great markdowns at the grocery store this week – including eggs, turkey wings, yogurt, bread, bananas, canned goods, and pumpkin pancake mix! My total for all these groceries was $64.
Since I got eggs and bread marked down, I’m thinking we’ll have French Toast sometime this next week. And I bought chocolate chips to make Chocolate Chip Banana Muffins.
The Pumpkin Spice Pancake mix was just $0.37 each, so I think we might have breakfast for dinner two nights this week — especially since we have breakfast sausage in the freezer from a deal awhile back!
For a few years, people have suggested I should join TikTok and post there. I resisted it because I wasn’t sure what to post. But some of my online friends suggested I take some of the things I post on Instagram Stories and re-purpose them for TikTok. So I just started posting two days ago and am having fun experimenting with it!
If you are already on TikTok and would like to join me, you can follow me here.
I love it when I find bananas marked down!
I freeze them to use in banana bread, banana muffins, and smoothies!
I’m finally feeling well enough in my pregnancy (I’m 17 weeks today!) to eat my daily salads for lunch again!! YAY!
I made Baked Turkey Wings with the marked down turkey wings I got. We served them with mashed potatoes and green beans and it kind of felt like Thanksgiving in January!

Really good buys and being frugal is wise with all the inflation right now. Everyone needs to be wise. Good information!

I love these posts. They’re so fun to see. I have a question. Do you do any of your grocery purchases on Amazon with swag bucks or gift cards? If you do, would you mind sharing? I personally use my Amazon points every month to buy household items (protein drinks and Kind bars, laundry pods etc.), which prompted the question! I think it might be encouraging for others who struggle making a lower grocery budget work to see that supplemental income or gift cards for groceries can really help keep the budget low as well. 🙂

When we switched back to a $70 grocery budget a few years ago and started sharing my grocery shopping trips in detail again hhere, I stopped using Amazon/Swagbucks gift cards for groceries unless I deduct it from the grocery budget and share it here. So yes, when I occasionally do make Amazon purchases (it’s been awhile since I’ve bought any groceries on there!), I include that in my grocery $$ and share here. I’m hoping for another toilet paper deal soon, but we’ll see!

Ah, makes sense! Thank you! And same on the toilet paper! lol

There’s so many way that families can stretch their $$$by finding new recipes with left over and sale items. I wanted to do a recipe book with minimum spending at the grocery for large or small families that’s not so privileged. I plan on working on this as I have plenty of time to do it now.

That’s a great idea!

What day do you shop? I never see these deals.

I think different stores must do their deals differently. I’ve been shopping at my Kroger for over three years and can’t find deals like this. Part of it is that my store doesn’t do much of a “deals” section. If stuff is marked down it’s not moved to a separate area it’s just stickered on the shelf with the other products. There is a small area for some of the produce and another area for fresh meat. Our neighborhood is also lower income with lots of immigrants and refugees. I’m guessing that any deals get snatched up pretty quickly. I’m happy for those who can find deals like that but it’s probably very different store to store.

That’s similar to how it is at our store. I’ve fond that if I go right around the time they do markdowns (around 8:30-9:30 a.m.), I find a lot better deals.
Beth says
That’s interesting because that’s the time I shop too. Who knows. Maybe my store just goes through inventory faster? Not that there’s never markdowns but definitely not the quantity or variety that you find. And I’ve never seen eggs marked down.
Crystal Paine says
All stores do markdowns at different times — so I’d find out when your store does them. I’ve heard that some do them later in the day!
