Kindle Unlimited vs Prime Reading
Wondering the difference between the two if you’re already a Prime member?
Prime Reading is a great benefit of an Amazon Prime membership with access to thousands of titles, but the books you are able to access with Prime Reading is a very small subset of ALL the books within Kindle Unlimited.
A Kindle Unlimited membership offers access to more than 4 million digital books, audiobooks, comics, and magazines and can be utilized with or without an Amazon Prime membership.
Is Kindle Unlimited Free with Prime?
Unfortunately, no. While Prime Reading is free with an Amazon Prime membership, a Kindle Unlimited membership will cost an additional fee each month, on top of your yearly Amazon Prime membership (although an Amazon Prime membership is not required for Kindle Unlimited).
Is the Kindle Unlimited Membership Worth It?
That depends on how many digital and audio books and magazines you can consume on a monthly basis.
If you regularly buy 1 or 2 digital books or audio books each month, the cost of a Kindle Unlimited membership is likely worth the monthly fee. Give the free trial a go and see what you think!
How Much is Kindle Unlimited?
It is currently $11.99 per month — after the 3-month trial period.
How Many Books Can You Borrow on Kindle Unlimited?
You can read as many books as you want each month (it’s truly “unlimited”!) but you can only have up to 20 books, audiobooks, or comics on your device at one time.
You may also read an unlimited number of magazines each month (and the magazines do NOT count towards your 20-at-a-time book limit!)
I’d love to know what other titles you find that you can read for FREE with this Kindle Unlimited Trial!

Is the free kindle unlimited trial only for current prime members?
A previous KU subscriber and it gave me one month free. Unoffendable is unfortunately not offered in KU
Oh yay! That’s great to hear. Thanks for letting us know about the Unoffendable book not being available. – Gretchen, MSM Team
Seems to only be for new subscribers, bummer. Too bad, they don’t really offer it anymore for returning subscribers.
Yes, sometimes these won’t work for returning customers… it seems like it’s hit or miss! 🙁
But thank you for sharing the deal! I keep hoping 🙂
I chatted with an Amazon customer service representative and the promotion is only for new subscribers. They refunded my charge.
I have had it in the past and it worked for me again — as it did for many others. But I’m not sure if certain accounts are excluded or what!
Hi. When I click on the link for the Kindle Unlimited free 3 month subscription, it comes up in Amazon as charging me the regular fee. Any ideas as to what I am doing wrong?
Have you taken advantage of a KU offer recently or have you recently canceled a KU membership? -Jordan, MSM Team
Thanks for the great kindle unlimited information! Do you know when this offer expires?
It will likely last through the end of the Prime Days coming up at the beginning of July. However, there is no guarantee. -Jordan, MSM Team
I had it previously and signed up, it billed me the regular price.
Did you contact Amazon to ask for a refund? I definitely would!
Is this only good for new sign ups?
Some people who previously had it are getting it to work and others aren’t.
There are many indie authors that I love that publish on KU. I read mostly closed door/no spice romance. Some of my favorite authors are Madelyn Smith, Jen Atkinson, Tracy Baack, Kate Watson, Courtney Walsh, Kortney Keisel, Sally Britton, Kasey Stockton, Cindy Steel, Nicole Van, Jordan Abitz, etc. Too many to list but I have found KU to be worth the cost each month.
Thank you for sharing!
Oh man! The Gospel Primer is so good! We have really enjoyed the Green Ember series as well.
Yay!! We are so happy you found stuff you loved! -Jordan, MSM Team
It’s one of my favorites!
I love 📚
Books are a wonderful thing! They open up so many worlds and characters to explore! -Jordan, MSM Team
Greta Eskridge’s “Adventuring Together” is also on Kindle Unlimited – I’m half way through and enjoying it!
Thanks for the suggestion! -Jordan, MSM Team
Thank you so much for the suggestion!
I signed up for this more than 2 months ago, and when I canceled it, it offered me another month of KU for free!!! I hope this happens to everyone 🙂 will be curious what happens when I cancel after this extra month is up. Also, I was thrilled to find Richard Foster’s “Prayer”, and am using “40 Scripture Based Prayers to Pray Over Your Children”
Yay! What a great surprise! -Jordan, MSM Team
Oh yay!! That’s so cool you got offered another month for free!
Yes very excited! My husband is excited to find Hugh Ross’s “The Creator and the Cosmos”, and I saw another book of his called “Always be Ready” that looks good. Some kids non fiction picture books that look good are “Jars of Hope” (a story from the Holocaust) and “For the Right to Learn” (about Malala Yousafzi)
Oh yay! And thank you for sharing these titles!
Thank you so much for the link! I appreciate it. I love reading and especially being able to read them for free.
Yay! You’re so welcome! -Jordan, MSM Team
I just read “The Day the World Came to Town” (as a “real” book) and loved it so much. One of the few books I gave 5 stars to…thought it was one of the most inspirational books I’ve ever read and was encouraged to try to be more hospitable in my little corner of the world…
I’m so glad you enjoyed that book as much as I did!!
I was able to sign up for the deal, but I am having trouble finding audiobooks on KU. Is there a way to browse just audio books? Thanks!
Try this link and see if it works for you: https://amzn.to/2uXOGOC
Oh! Thanks so much for that great tip!!
I just signed up for the trial and The Next Right Thing by Emily Freeman is one of the books available!!! Thanks for the suggestions! Adding them to my list!
Oh! Thank you for sharing with us that her book was one there!!
I have read so many great books on KU. Most recently, “A Dark Lure” by Loreth Ann White. I agree the regular price is too much, I only sign up when they are having a deal. But if you are a Prime member you get one KU book free every month. That is in addition to the 10 books you get in Prime reading.
I got three months for .99 around Christmastime and I have kept it since then at the $9.99 because I have been reading at least 3-4 books a month on it. To me that’s worth it, and when I run out of books I can cancel it whenever I want.
I love that! Thank you so much for sharing!
I read “Stretched Too Thin” by Jessica Turner and Chip Gaines Book “Capital Gaines” both recently using the Kindle Unlimited membership. I also recently borrowed “Reading People” and “I’d Rather Be Reading” both by Anne Bogel using the membership.
Oh! Thanks so much for those tips! I hadn’t seen that Stretched Too Thin, Reading People, or I’d Rather be Reading was available with KU!
I hope you enjoyed Stretched Too Thin! xo
Thanks for the heads up on this deal! I was able to sign up even though I have had kindle unlimited in the past. So, even if you have gotten a great deal in the past it may let you sign up again.
Oh! Thank you so much for letting us know that!! Woohoo!!!
That is AMAZING!!!!
So excited to try this out!
