What do you do for snacks? I feel like the snacks I have to send with the kids to school
really add up!
I don’t think Gretchen has children in school yet if I recall from past posts. I do though, so I know what you mean about snacks adding up. I usually get a couple of large bags of pretzels, sun chips, graham crackers etc… from Aldi and then immediately divide them into zip lock bags. I keep these snacks in a bin in a high cabinet. Otherwise my kids will grab that bag of chips and eat the whole thing in an afternoon after school. That way I only spend 2-3 dollars a week on school snacks. For after school snacks I serve something that is more difficult to send to school, but usually more nutritious. Yogurt (from a big container, not cups), fruit, spoons full of peanut butter, cottage cheese, celery with peanut butter, freshly popped corn, homemade kale chips, or homemade healthier baked goods.
Impressive! May I ask how many people you’re feeding? I have a family of 4, and while these meals might work, I buy about four gallons of milk a week!
The only other thing I noticed is I think you could get your cheese a bit cheaper. In our area, it goes on sale for about $2 for a 2 cup bag (sometimes actually $2 each, sometimes a $4 BOGO). I stock up when it’s on sale–it freezes really well.
1 get a 4 cup back of cheddar at aldi for 2.99. Keep an eye out there.
