It was an interesting shopping week. I walked into Aldi 4 days after an ice storm shut down most of the city. The shelves were almost completely empty! I ended up stopping at Walmart also (right next to Aldi), as well as a roadside stand, so we could make it through this week. Hopefully things are restocked next week, and this is not the new normal. Also…every week for about a month now, Aldi prices have continued to rise. 🙁 I plan to try out Lidl next week to compare.

I went to Aldi on MLK day because I had an appointment to go to already anyways. It was pretty scary how wiped out it was. Hardly any cheese or sandwhich meat, frozen food was completely bare, chips and crackers were pretty cleaned out. It would have bothered me, but then I stopped at Costco after my appt. and they were fully stocked. So, not sure what was going on at Aldi. I also hope this isn’t a new trend. I really don’t want to shop at multiple stores for groceries. Guess we’ll just have to wait and see what happens.

I’m sorry your Aldi was the same way! I felt the same way – it bothered me that they were SO wiped out! But it definitely helped me feel better seeing that Walmart right across the street was completely stocked (except for a few weird things like ice cream!). So it seems like it must be an Aldi thing. I definitely hope it’s temporary!

I’ve had the same problem with Aldi in Florida. Aldi used to my main store. Now I only buy a few items there every week. BJ’s is one of the cheapest stores in my area. Most of my groceries come from there and Walmart.
When I lived in NJ I shopped at Aldi and Lidl. I loved Lidl and miss it terribly. Download the app for coupons.

Thank you for the Lidl app tip! I’ll definitely check it out.
We don’t a have BJ’s close to where I live, unfortunately. I’ve heard good things about it, though.

Our stores were hit hard after a big snowstorm here the first week of January, and still haven’t recovered. Our Aldi prices keep going up also, and today their shelves were bare in spots. Random things like tortilla chips, canned corn, and bottled water (both gallons and cases of single bottles) were empty.
Brigette Shevy says
That’s amazing that your stores still haven’t recovered after several weeks! Isn’t it interesting the random things that are completely wiped out? Like not one tub of any kind of ice cream in all of Aldi this week (Walmart was wiped as well)…that’s one of the last things I’d buy to eat during a snow storm (too cold!!!) – but apparently it’s a common craving, haha!

Yup, I am also getting sticker shock at Aldi’s. Awhile ago I got some cookbooks called ‘Stories and recipes of the great depression, thought about taking them to trade in at a used bookstore prepandemic , am now glad I didn’t!
Brigette Shevy says
Oooh, what a great find! Those cookbooks sound SO intriguing!
