Aldi has some spices for 99 cents and walmart has some for even cheaper.
I do aldi spices for the ones they have – but ours doesn’t have dry mustard, unfortunately. You are right, though – aldi is much cheaper than grocery stores for spices!
Aldi, Costco (may cost the same, but you get more), or a bulk food store (we have several here near Amish country.) for spices.
I need to see if there is a bulk food store in this area. Thanks for reminding me of something on my bucket list. 😉
Check Ollie’s for spices if there is one near you.
We have an Ollie’s just up the road from us, so great idea! I already buy vanilla there (cheaper than sams), but I should totally check for spices. Normally it is my husband who goes, so I guess next time it is my turn to shop Ollie’s!
Most of the health food grocery stores around us sell spices from “bulk bins”. Buy as little as you want, I love it. I can buy twice thr amount I need for a new recipe and pay maybe 50¢. I also buy oats and certain flours this way.
Right now there is ONE health food store in our area that monopolizes, has no bulk spices, and absolutely ridiculous prices. BUT – I need to remember your suggestion for when I travel, and just stop by a health food store and buy spices on vacation. 🙂
Aldi for spices!
Thanks! Just wish they sold dry mustard and other spices other than the standard parsley, garlic, cinnamon, etc.
I buy my spices by the pound from Amazon and they ship free with my prime account! I keep them in my freezer and refill when needed!
Hmm…I “need” amazon prime. 🙂
I think it’s a $25 order ships for free w/o Prime. Also, some of the spices may be available for Subscribe and Save-which doesn’t require Prime either!
For the spices check the “ethnic” aisle for some, but the best bet is to go to an “ethnic” grocery store especially Indian or Asian. You can get the mustard for .99-1.99 for 4-8 oz. although you may have to grind it yourself I buy basically allow my spices there.
Great suggestion!! I didn’t think about ethnic stores for mustard (I’ve bought spices like cumin, coriander, and curry there before). Thanks!
Check out Penzeys Spices. Good prices & they have everything!
Oh, my sister-in-law always buys me spices from Penzeys for Christmas. I didn’t realize they sold in bulk – and online (??) so I will google. 🙂 thanks!!

Mustard powder – 1 lb – $3.80
Everything comes in bulk (1/2 – 1 lb quantities, usually), but is extremely inexpensive and great quality. They offer a pizza seasoning (great for making homemade pizza sauce) and a taco seasoning blend which are both fantastic. Also available are dry lemon and lime juice powders for mixing up your own fresh – work great! We love the dry spinach flakes and substitute them for frozen spinach in all recipes (just add a little extra liquid, if necessary) and often add a handful to boost a soup/stew.
Postage is UPS and additional. I find the best way to place an order is to work with a group. Sometimes we have split packages in half, especially when trying a new blend, but I have been never been disappointed.
Thank you!! You are awesome! I could have bought a whole pound of mustard powder for cheaper than I paid for an ounce or two. I just need to go gather up some friends now to order spices and split shopping costs. 🙂
Great job! Have you ever made yogurt? I made crock pot yogurt last week for the first time. I will never buy yogurt again. So simple, inexpensive and it is so delicious. 🙂
I have made yogurt, and you are absolutely right about it being simple and cheaper. I need to get back into a routine of making it – thanks for the encouragement! 🙂
