Well today wasn’t anything like I’d planned! The day started with an early morning almost-3-mile run in the woods around the family camp here in Texas. I was picturing a day of encouraging sessions, swimming, rock-climbing, and a date night picnic on the lake with my husband.
But that was not to be…
Kaitlynn started throwing up this morning soon after she got up and she couldn’t keep anything down the rest of the day. We ended up taking her in and getting some IV fluids in her since she was beginning to get dehydrated.
We’re back at the cabin, she’s finally resting, and the nurse here at family camp is keeping close tabs on her… and I’m hoping she continues to rest so that her stomach will calm down and get back to normal. Poor girl, she was so sick today and I just felt miserable for her!
At any rate, I had a lot of posts planned to run today… but the computer was the last thing on my mind much of day. Thanks so much for your understanding when life trumps blogging.
I may have a chance to post some of the deals from my bulging inbox tonight, but we’ll just see how the evening goes! For now, I’m off to enjoy a “date night” with my husband (The rest of the couples at family camp are having a date night picnic at the lake. Since we needed to stay back with Kaitlynn, the camp staff brought our picnic basket to our cabin so we could still have date night in!)
Hopefully, your day was much less eventful and you are all well at your house!
Amanda says
Hope Kaitlynn is feeling much better now! My LO was the same way Tuesday, it was just a one-day bug apparently, she was able to eat and drink the very next day! xoxo
Amanda says
🙁 So sorry to hear that. Hope she gets better soon! How nice of them to bring date night to you though!
Nicole S says
I hope she starts feeling much better soon and that your family gets to enjoy the rest of your vacation.

Our week has been at the hospital with my littlest one. My blogging has taken theback seat too. I hope your little one is better soon.

I wish I could remember a recent blogs very inspiring quote for times like this, but I can’t NOT share it??!
If anyone recognizes the quote feel free to give the writer credit for me because I do not remember the name.
“When God changes the winds, adjust your sails.”
That just helps every situation I think, I’ve held onto this quote since I discovered it, it gets me through the toughest of times..
Mrs. R. says
Prayin’ for you all! 🙂
Cassi says
Awww hope she is feeling better! We have had that happen while on vacation and it escalated into a yucky situation where we had to go home but we were only 15 minutes away! Glad they are taking good care of your family!
I was wondering if you are staying at a Pine Cove camp in Texas? I have read a lot about them and they look wonderful-the idea of the nursing staff it very appealing to me because of my asthmatic boys!
Jenny says
You’re not so far from me if you are at wonderful Pine Cove. They have such a caring staff. Family camp there is awesome.
I’m sorry your little girl is sick. Say the word and I’ll drop off some Gatorade, 7-up, crackers, etc. at the front gate. Also, one thing that always helps me with a tummy ache is a cold Coke in a can. A regular, “red” coke in a can. I only drink them when my stomach hurts, but I think it has medicinal properties for stomach issues! Sip it slowly through a straw with crackers and it truly helps. I hope little Kaitlynn feels better soon and that the rest of the family is able to enjoy the time at camp. I bet she will have a quick recovery.
Crystal says
You are so, so kind to offer. We were going to go to Walmart to pick up Gatorade & crackers and the staff would hear none of it — they got it for us! We’ve been blown away by how kind and caring everyone is here and we could not ask for a better place to be. They’ve bent over backwards to serve us and the rest of the families here.
We are truly amazed at how wonderful everyone on staff is here. I cannot say enough good things about Pine Cove — and now I know why everyone who has ever been raves about it!
K says
I’m sorry to hear about your daughter and I’m hoping for a speedy recovery.
Don’t blame you for staying there rather than making the trip back home. I had a similar experience, before: We were about 8 hours away from home, attending a wedding. Out of nowhere, two of my three were throwing up. They were fine after a day or two, but I couldn’t imagine having them on the road, or them even wanting to be on the road, with all of that going on. LOL!!! I guess I caught it while nursing them back to health. Unfortuantely, we were on our way back home when I started feeling sick. Thank God I managed to keep everything down until we arrived home, but I’ll tell ya, it was one of the longest trips of my life. LOL!!!
I’m so gald to know that your trip has been fun, otherwise….. and I love your attitude towards it all. All is well. 🙂
Lauren says
Things like this always happen to someone in my family when on vacation!!
Lori says
Am I the only one who pictures the camp in the movie “Dirty Dancing” when I read about this? 🙂
Seriously, I hope your daughter is doing better and that nobody else catches it. It sounds like a great camp – have fun, and don’t worry about your blog!
Amie says
I hope your daughter feels better soon! Don’t worry about posts.
Lana says
I am so sorry. I am praying that she is completely well this morning and the rest stay well also.

What family camp are you guys attending? We’ve been looking for one for our family 🙂
Hope your sweet girl feels better soon!!
Crystal says
Pine Cove in Texas — aside from the sickness, it’s been a wonderful, wonderful time away!
shelly says
How fun! Several of our friends attend Pine Cove with their families. Are you at the one near Tyler? We’ve got friends at that one this week 🙂
Crystal says
We’re at The Bluffs. Is that the camp they are at? If so, you’ll have to email me their names!
shelly says
Ooh, I’m not sure which camp they are at. What is your e-mail address and I’ll give you their names 🙂

Almost forgot, if you’re at the one near Tyler I also have a good friend who’s working there. Her name is Lauren, she just graduated from high school in May. Maybe she’s helped you guys some 🙂

Life always trumps blogging.
One day all of this will fall away, and all that will be left is what we actually did. And while these deals and savings are helpful for the temporary, family is the permanent. Investing in the permanent has the highest returns.
Stacie says
I’m so sorry! 🙁 C had to get fluids last year on our vacation when we ended up in the ER. She started to feel so much better after that — and I’m hoping Kaitlynn does, too!
Praying for you, sweet friend!
Jody Susan says
Sorry to hear your little one is sick. 🙁 Sometimes drinking a little buttermilk can help stop an upset stomach – although you all might be in the middle of nowhere, and not have access to any, since you are at a camp. Praying for a quick recovery and rest for you all.
Melissa says
That’s lovely the staff brought your date night picnic basket to you as you nurse your sick little one. Hope she’s feeling better soon and the rest of your family camp is as fun as can be!
Tracy says
You are in my thoughts and prayers. Take care of you and your family!
Michelle W says
Praying your sweet girl will recover quickly.
Jen says
Sick enough to have IV fluids? I would have packed up and gone home with my little one… Home to homemade chicken soup and a comfy bed! Hope she gets well quickly…
Crystal says
Since home is 8 hours away (we traveled to Texas for family camp!), that wasn’t a real option, but gratefully, we have comfy beds in the cabins here and the staff is amazing. We’ve been well cared for, even if we’re far away from home!
Jen says
Sorry, but my husband would have been driving! lol! Or we’d take turns. I have had one sick like that and with a fever. Our trip ended. It wasn’t worth it. Best of luck to you!
Anna says
I personally wouldn’t want to take an 8 hour car ride after throwing up all day! =)
jody says
It sounds like you guys are getting good care at the camp and it is nice they have a nurse on staff to keep a close eye on her. Sounds like you guys have a good situation going as far as sick kids on trips go. Hope shes better soon.
Ellen says
I hope everyone else in your family is spared and that Kaitlynn gets well soon!
Brandy says
Are you up in the mountains?
My som has woke up and thrown up both mornings after a night of camping in the mountains (one year apart–he threw up both times). I don’t know why (is there elevation sickness, like motion sickness? I don’t have any idea).
Once he came back down the mountain he was fine, but he was sick on the way down.
Heather says
There is such a thing as elevation sickness.
Sandra @ The Sensible Mom says
So sorry to hear about Kaitlynn! 🙁 How nice of the staff to bring your picnic basket to your cabin, though. I hope Kaitlynn is feeling better soon.
Jennifer says
We had to take our 5-year-old son to the ER twice a few weeks ago for dehydration. I totally understand and hope your daughter recovers quickly.
Debbie says
Your camp sounds awesome! So glad you are still having your date night while staying close Kaitlynn. Prayers for her to get better quickly!! You spoil us, btw.
Amy L says
Enjoy your date night!
Melissa French says
Oh Chrystal, so sorry your little one was not feeling well today. I know how trying it can be to be in a strange place with a sick child. Praying that she’s feeling better and it’s all fun from here on out. Glad you have a camp nurse to bounce your concerns off of, and I’m very impressed with the camp that they would bring your picnic to you under the circumstances!!! Blessings to you!
Tracy @ usingtimewisely.com says
Sorry to hear about the illness. Hope she recovers quickly, does not spread it to anyone else, and you get to enjoy the rest of your week. Focus on your family. The posts can wait.
Melissa says
So sorry she was under the weather. We certainly understand when life trumps blogging- family comes first. =) Praying for you- and I’ll be praying that no one else gets it. 🙁 That is no fun, especially on vacation. I’m glad you could enjoy a date night with your hubby, how sweet of them to bring you the basket. 🙂

Sam says
Seriously, I so need this camp……..
Crystal says
It’s Pine Cove in Texas. They have multiple camps, but all of the family camps are set up similar to this one.
It’s on the pricey side, but we definitely feel that it would be worth every penny if it’s something you can afford. They offer so much for the price and how they have it set up truly allows the moms to come and relax — which I didn’t think would be possible to do with three younger children.
{By the way, they also offer scholarships for families with lower incomes.}
We’ve been blessed beyond measure to be here and will definitely consider making this a yearly occurrence.
