Get Up Early Challenge: Day 12 (I woke up at 4:45 a.m.!)

Get Up Early Challenge: Day 12

Happy Tuesday!! It’s Day 12 of the Get Up Early Challenge and I went to bed around 9 pm last night and woke up (without my alarm!) at 4:45 am this morning! Yay!

I admit, it really helped that it’s no longer freezing cold here… It’s SO much easier to get up in the morning when it doesn’t feel so frigid!

I’ve been meditating on Romans 8:28 this morning and how God displayed this verse so amazingly in Joseph’s story in the book of Genesis.

I’ll be hopping on Periscope around 7:30 to 7:45 a.m. to share some Morning Motivation encouragement and to some thoughts and insights from Rest Assured. I’d love for you to join me or watch the replay (just download the app and search for @MoneySavingMom).

Are you joining me for the Get Up Early Challenge? If so, leave a comment on this post to let me know how you did with your wake-up goal this morning.

We’re in this together… And if you didn’t hit your goal, that’s okay! Give yourself grace, don’t beat yourself up, and know that you can try again tomorrow!

Crystal, I love reading your posts! I feel like I can relate so much to you every day and you motivate me in so many ways. I have been setting my alarm to wake up early almost every night but rarely put my feet on the floor when it sounds at 5AM. My problem is that I have a 7 month old who gets up 3 and 4 times throughout the night and by the time the alarm goes off, I just want to sleep! Oh well, I still enjoy seeing all that you accomplish during your mornings. Thank you for sharing your life with me! 🙂

I remember those days!! Give yourself permission to sleep. Get up early when they’re older. Those sweet babies can really do us in. 😉

  • I think I am finally getting the hang of getting up at 5:30. Yesterday and today I popped out of bed as soon as the alarm went off! Now I just have to keep at it. 🙂 You are so right, it is so much easier to get up when it isn’t so cold!

  • Hi Crystal, in general, I’ve been getting up a lot earlier than normal. Today I woke up at 5:45, but my goal is to wake up at 5 everyday. I’d say, on average, I’m getting up at 5:30. I feel a little challenged getting to bed early, especially since night time is the only time I have to connect with my hubby. I’m not sure if I need to adjust my wake up time or just figure out a better nighttime routine.

Can I ask what time your kids go to bed? I’ve been trying really hard to go to bed earlier so I can get up earlier, having a smoother morning, day, etc. But, the issue I struggle with is that my 7.5 y.o. goes to bed about 8:00, unless there are activities or she can’t settle down etc. She’s usually out by 8:30 though and my almost 12 year old goes to bed about 8:45-9:00, although she’s usually in her room reading, drawing or having some quiet time by 8:15-8:30. I find it really hard to start winding myself down before 10:30-11:00. I work 20-30 hours outside the home, my husband works full-time and my girls are in public school. I just can’t figure out how to go to sleep early and still get cleaned up from dinner, the kids ready for bed and everything else that needs to happen and still have quality time with my husband. Thanks in advance.

    • We are putting the kids to bed at 7:30… though they usually stay awake and read/talk in their room for 30 minutes to an hour.

I have a similar situation: WOTH full time, with a 15 y.o. who usually retires to his room around 9. Last night, for some reason, I really felt that there wasn’t enough time after dinner and before bed. I am trying to go to bed at 9 p.m. and wake at 5. I’ve largely been successful, for almost a week now! This is huge, because before I had a terrible sleep pattern. My doctor called it “bad baby syndrome.”

At any rate, my advice is to just rip off the bandaid and go to bed earlier. If you don’t feel like sleeping right away, read, pray or do something else quiet to get your mind ready for sleep. Perhaps you can use this time for some quiet time with your husband? I am married as well, we tend to have our daily quality time right after I get home from work and before I start dinner.

That’s awesome, Crystal! I hope that one day I will wake up easily at 6 a.m. This morning, I actually woke up at 6 a.m. without my alarm, but didn’t get up-so of course I fell back asleep. I really need to discipline myself to actually get up.

Could you please tell me what the book on your lap is, “it’s a beautiful life” ?
    Thank you!

Crystal! I love that you get up early and how you posted avout the cold being a factor!!I live in mn and find waking up in the winter before 6 so hard to do, mainly because it is so cold and dark!! Once May rolls around it is so much easier to wake up knowing the warm sun is shining and the 60 degree weather is there to meet me!!

Way to to! I’ve been getting up consistently at 5:30 but the last two days I got up at 5:15. I feel that this quarter of an hour gives me just the extra minutes I need to go for a short walk. My favourite way to start the day : observing nature and clearing my thoughts !That means though going to bed around 9:30 which I find harder to do- for the same reasons some of your readers have mentioned above. My husband gets home around 8 pm – we have dinner as a family ( we live in Europe so dinner is late here ;)- and the kids are in bed around 9. This is family time. The house is usually picked up but there are still dishes etc. So the time for just the two of us is limited. I’ve started turning off all electronic devices in the evening so that I can concentrante on my husband during this short time….He isn’t a morning person so having breakfast or something like that before the kids wake up is our of the question ;)) Good luck everyone !
