The children and I stopped by Walmart yesterday after naps and here’s what we picked up:
2 cartons of strawberries at $1.67 each
6 ears of corn at $0.28 each
5 lbs. of bananas — $0.18 per pound (price-matched with a local store that has bananas at this price on Thursdays)
2 packages of Schick razors — $1.97 each, used $2/1 coupons — free after coupons
6 packages of Taco Bell seasoning — $0.50 each, used 3 $1/2 coupons — free after coupons
3 bottles of Masterpiece barbecue sauce — $1.42 each, used 3 $1/1 coupons — $0.42 each after coupons
2 bottles Sweet Baby Ray’s barbecue sauce — $1.50 each, used 2 $1/1 coupons — $0.50 each after coupons
2 Suave deodorants — $1.72 each, used $3/2 coupon — $0.22 each after coupon
1 Kotex liners — $1, used $1/1 coupon from a freebie mailing — free after coupon
1 trial-sized Pantene — $0.97, used $1.50/1 coupon from a freebie mailing — free plus overage after coupon
1 bottle Genesis Today Juice — $6, used free coupon I signed up for on another blog (no longer available) — free after coupon
2 Simply Go-Gurts — $2.25, used 2 free coupons — free after coupons
1 Pampers wipes — $1.97, used $2/1 coupon — free after coupon
6 Skinny Cow ice cream cups — $1.22 each, used 4 $1/1 coupons, used 2 Buy 2, Get 1 free — 6 for $0.88 total
Before coupons, my total was around $48. After coupons, I paid $12.46 for everything pictured — and the ice cream and Go-Gurt not pictured. Ice cream and yogurt doesn’t last long at our house. And it’s not just because daddy and the kiddos are eating it! 😉

I always have good luck at Walmart with my coupons. I have only had trouble at Target! Walmart always takes my coupons and gives me overage. One day I had almost $6 overage taken off my bill! Very exciting to recieve all my free items and $6 off my cheap ($15) bookcase from them!

Wow, lots of problems at Walmart. Thankfully, I haven’t had any issues with internet coupons at Walmart. My favorite grocery store, however, got scammed somehow, and now they have to have customer service look over every single internet coupon for verification. That usually consists of a glance and a “looks real to me.”
Tee says
My Wal-Mart also would not take the $2 Pampers coupon as the price of $1.97 is less than face value of $2 coupon and they wouldn’t adjust down. It makes me made and I’ll be shopping somewhere else.
I would rather pay the $0.17 for the same item at Target or Kroger than than deal with Wal-Mart.
Mary says
@Tee, Thankfully I had no issues using those coupons at my Wal-Mart. If the coupon beeps the cashier does check the coupon, but I’ve never had them then deny my use. Definitely contact Wal-Mart customer service as per their policy they should be accepting those coupons!

I almost didn’t get to use my Orange Juice coupon because the managers thought it was suspicious. I told them the company sent it to me, and that I did not print it off. They accepted it, thankfully. 😉 Apparently they have had lots of bogus coupons. My husband joked with them that if we were going to bother with a fake coupon, we are going to go for the free T.V., not free OJ. lol
Flora says
@emily, I have had the same problem with two local major grocery stores in St. Louis. At checkout after all the items were scanned, I handed the cashier all my coupons but she told me I could not use the Tropicana free organe juice coupon (which I was sent in the mail from the reward program)simply because the store did not accept ‘internet free coupon’! I told her the cut coupon was sent to me and was not printed out from the internet but it did not help, so I asked to have the coupon back. I did not realize I was still charged for the OJ after the item was taken away from my grocery items. It took my time to explain to the store manager the following morning before I could get my money back! Yesterday I went to another store and asked the cashier if they would accept that OJ coupon, she said if it’s for free item, I would have to verify with the customer service first as they could not take it. When I read the fine print, I notice the coupon itself even comes with instructions to verify if it’s a real one! What a hassle for honest consumers like us when trying to redeem those free OJ coupons at local major grocery stores!!! Does anyone have any experience with using those coupons at drugstores like Walgreens and CVS?

The Walmart in Cedar Park, TX is good about taking all my coupons.

That is a HUGE savings. My family and I LOVE Skinny Cow! Thanks for posting!

Walmart Coupon Policy

•Soft drink container caps
The following are guidelines and limits:
•Walmart only accepts coupons for merchandise we sell and only when presented at the time of purchase.

I hate to be so nosy Crystal, but I’m just curious as to the Suave deodorants you bought? Is Suave a popular company for you or what do you do with all the spare deodorant?
I rarely even take free or almost-free deodorants because of tax… I prefer to only take the $$$-earners or $$/$$$ in CVS. Do you not play the drugstore game or do you donate/sell them? If you don’t mind me asking.

I got denied at Wal-Mart for the $2/1 Pampers coupon today. The cashier called over a manager and they both agreed that “that just doesn’t seem right.” Last week at the same store I was able to get the free wipes. I guess it just depends on which cashier you get!
MEG says
Same here. The other day I was at Walmart and tried to buy a item that was ten cents less than the coupon price. The coupon beep and the manager said you can’t get an item for free. I told her other stores have taken them but they said Walmart won’t give you the item for free.

Hi guys! I’m a Wal Mart cashier. Personally, when I’m scanning coupons, I usually have almost no way of knowing if the coupon price exceeds the item price so I’ve never done any “adjusting” nor have I been taught to do so. Usually if the coupon “beeps” at the end of a large grocery order I’ll just type the coupon in because it would be too time consuming to try & figure out why. A lot of times coupons “beep” for no reason at all. It can match the product perfectly & still be troublesome! Therefore, I’ll always type the coupon in unless it actually doesn’t match the product. As for internet coupons, I’ve never been told not to take them unless they really seem fishy. And lately there really have been some fishy & definately fraudulent internet coupons (for free products) being pushed through the store. So I wouldn’t be surprised if they did change the policy. People can be so selfish & ruin a good thing for everyone! P.S. Your coupons don’t annoy me. I think they make you look like an intelligent shopper! 😉
Barbara says
@Marie,
Thanks, Marie!!! Your post really meant alot to me… I don’t have much choice to shop around here besides Walmart, so I almost can’t avoid shopping there. But I’m a big coupon user & I’ve had good & bad experiences. I’ve noticed that it depends a whole lot on who the cashier is. Alot of them don’t seem to know what they are doing or what to expect & get so frustrated.
I really try to do my best to go out of my way to make it nice n easy for cashiers. Sometimes when they have a problem & don’t understand it, I usually know why but sometimes they sure don’t seem to want to learn. I’ve been using coupons for over 2 yrs now.
The Guptons says
My Walmart is also a bear to use coupons at. And, if there’s an overage, forget it! They will NOT do it if it beeps. It’s so annoying.
Tahsha says
Is the buy 2 get 1 skinny cow coupon still available somewhere? The link here was for the $1 off and is no longer available. I have the $1 ones already and a rain check for CVS from last week. I would love to get one or two of the b2g1 coupons to go with them. Thanks.
Emma says
Walmart always gives me trouble with coupons. I hate going there cause I never get the deals I went to get 🙁 I coupon shop on a daily basis & Walmart is the only place that is ALWAYS a hassle!
Amber says
My Walmart will not adjust the price of a coupon down so I find it easier to simply not shop there anymore. I wish I could though, you got some great deals!
Valerie says
The ice cream and go-gurt are on top of th wipes. 🙂
Crystal says
1 package of Go-Gurts and 4 ice creams were not pictured as they’d already been consumed! That’s what I referring to. Sorry if I was confusing! 🙂

How did you use a 2.00 off coupon for the papers wipes on a 1.97 item?
How did the register react when the coupon was scanned.
Yell wondering because i have 4 of those coupons and would like to use them one at a time 9so i dont draw any attention) but don’t want the hasstle if the register beeps.
Thanks
Crystal says
The register said something about verifying the coupon amount and then she just clicked a button and it took it.
Jennifer B. says
@Crystal, When I used the $2 off 1 Pampers coupon at Walmart, even though the sale price was $1.97, whatever the cashier I had did resulted in $2 off my receipt total.
As an aside, I was very pleasantly surprised at Kroger yesterday when I used one of the B1G1Free Sobe coupons (won through a link to their current game, here on MSM) and the register automatically removed $1.59 (regular price), even though the sale price for Kroger card holders was 88 cents (which is what I was charged). Thanks, Crystal! Every little bit helps!
Freda says
@lu,
I used 4 of the $2/1 and got my 4 packages of baby wipes freeeee! no one said a thing or blinked an eye! Some do act as though you are taking away from their pay when you use the coupons though.
Stacy says
Question: When you say you bought 1 pack of wipes yet used 2 $1 off coupons, how can you use multiple coupons on one item? How are they getting stacked? I thought you could only use one manufactuer coupon per item. Might be a silly question but I am pretty new and not sure on all the rules. Plus every cashier I get, questions the coupon the second the register does not accept it.
Crystal says
I used a coupon that was $2 off 1. $2/1 = $2 off 1 item. I hope that helps!

I was shopping at Wegmans the other day and had 1.00 off of Herbal Essence Shampoo. It does not state anywhere on the coupons that trail sizes are not included, so I picked up the trial sizes at .97 cents each. The coupon beeped when she was scanning it, she looked closely at the coupon and said this must not include trial sizes. I said, it doesn’t say that on the coupon. She said well my scanner beeped, it is not going to take it. O’well, I’ll take use it at CVS 🙂
jan says
How did you get free coupons for the Simply Go-Gurt?
Crystal says
They were given away on two blogs not too long ago. I posted it on my Facebook page — but they went fast!
Katie says
My walmart told me that if it doesn’t have the little scissors around it (like a lot of the facebook ones don’t) then they can not accept it. They also will not give me overage on anything.
Ashley says
I couldn’t find the Taco Bell Originals coupon on the link. Are they still available?
Jennifer B. says
@Ashley, I just went to look and didn’t see it now either. I snagged one of the coupons (probably should have printed it twice, but I was a “newbie”) when Crystal originally posted about it a couple of weeks ago.
Ashley says
@Jennifer B.,
Thanks for checking!
Oh well, I guess we can’t catch them all.
marney says
The Wal-Mart where I shop at won’t take internet coupons either. And one of the local grocery stores stopped taking them too – they are worried about fraud. A few people are ruining it for the rest of us!
Kathy says
@marney, I have never had a problem with printed internet coupons at my Walmart, BUT occasionally I have found a particular CASHIER who doesn’t know how to make them work. I learned (from a cashier who knew what to do), that if you’ll notice, there are usually TWO scan bar codes on the coupon. She took her finger and covered one, and scanned the other and it worked just fine! Hope this helps! 🙂
Rebecca says
I hate using coupons at Walmart. They never seem to work properly (whereas they work fine at other stores), and then the cashiers tend to treat you like a criminal for having coupons. It has to be a really good deal for me to even attempt to use coupons at Walmart because of how unpleasant it can be to deal with unhelpful cashiers, a bad coupon policy and my small children who have even less patience than I do when it comes to trying to use coupons at Walmart.
Marlana says
Last week during my Wal-mart shopping trip, the gentleman told me that he was not suppose to accept internet coupons anymore per management. I politely said ‘Wal-mart needs to update their internet policy”. He said he has no problem taking them if they go through, but if they beep then he doesn’t ‘push’ them through. I am wondering if anyone else has been told this? Thanks
Jennifer B. says
@Marlana, I’m not sure about Walmart, but I was told the same thing at our military commissary. If the printed coupon scans the first time, then they will accept it. If it won’t scan right away, the coupon won’t be manually entered (which the cashiers used to do often, in my experience).
maria says
@Marlana,
I was told exactly the same as far as beeping goes. If it beeps, they have to hand it back to us, unless it is just asking for dollar value if the item is comelety free.
shelly says
@maria, Same rule at Target, they’ll accept the internet coupons as long as they don’t beep.
Risha says
@Marlana, I was once told the same thing despite having the corporate coupon policy printed out and in my coupon folder. They unashamedly told me that it was simply their store manager’s decision to refuse them. So I contacted customer service via email and received a reply saying that Walmart does accept internet coupons. I also received a phone call from someone in management at the store where I had trouble, but she called me when we were almost to a friends’ house for the evening. I asked to her call me back, but she never did. I took a break for a while from using internet coupons at Walmart and just used them at other stores. Just recently, I went back to using them, and I haven’t had any trouble. If Walmart is going to have a *corporate* coupon policy that gives no discretionary rights to the individual store managers, it should be helpful to contact the corporate customer service about your problem, and hopefully you’ll see them change.
