Well, I finally watched Avengers: Infinity War and I’m not sure that I know what I think of it. It ended a lot differently than I expected and I’m just hoping that there will be some sort of clarity/redemption in the next movie. Because right now, I’m just confused as to what’s going on and whether I’m supposed to like it or not.
Note: There’s a lot of action, some violence, and some language in this film. The details here on IMDB do a great job of giving specifics so you can decide whether you want to watch it and whether you think it’s appropriate for your kids (if you were thinking of watching it with them).
I feel like the Avenger movies have so many moving parts and characters now, that it’s harder to keep up with and follow and enjoy. You might totally disagree, but that’s how I felt. And I also feel like some of the characters haven’t had the chance to develop to the depth that other characters have so I don’t know whether I like them or not! 🙂
Have you seen the movie? If so, I’d love to hear what you think!
I also finished This is Me by Chrissy Metz. I actually listened to the book because I was able to rent the audiobook for free through the Overdrive app (check to see if your library is affiliated with this app. It’s the best!)
While Chrissy and I come from very differing viewpoints in many areas (she does acknowledge God and a Higher Power, but theologically, our beliefs would be very, very different) and has a lot of crass language in it (beware listening to it when little ears are around!), as someone who loves This is Us and has been so curious about Kate’s character in that show, I found the book to be very interesting and insightful.
I appreciated how honest and open she was about her struggles and shortcomings and thought that there were many good nuggets of wisdom to be gleaned from the book. Plus, it was just a fascinating look behind-the-scenes into her life and journey. I found it so interesting how much her story parallels Kate’s story and am guessing she can play that character so much more authentically because in many respects, she is Kate.
Her book gave new depth to her character on the show and it made me look forward even more to when Season 3 of This is Us comes out!

When I Find Time to Read
People are always asking me how I find time to read. Honestly, it’s because I love to read, because I’ve chosen to prioritize it, because I don’t have a lot of other hobbies, and because I can’t not read. Also, when you love something, you usually can find ways to get creative to find time to fit it in — even if it’s in the little nooks and crannies of life.
I wrote a post on 3 ways to find more time to read — even when life is busy. And here are 7 more ways to find time to read.
My husband and I rewatched all the marvel movies in order over the course of a month before we went to see Infinity War, and I think it made the movie much more enjoyable. We’ve been watching these movies in theaters for over a decade, so we had forgotten a lot of the little details that show just how intertwined all the movies are. I loved the interactions between unconventional character groups in Infinity War, but I confess that I found Thanos and his motivation kind of ridiculous and exhausting. I’m really interested to see how they choose to resolve the ending because I have a feeling that it’s going to be reversed at least somewhat.
I’m so hoping it’s going to be reversed! And I think watching all of the Marvel movies in order before seeing Infinity War was really smart!
I totally agree with your view of Infinity War. I’m not sure what to think. We haven’t seen Black Panther, but I felt like I could follow the movie just fine. But there were so MANY characters! I like The Guardians of the Galaxy but they didn’t quite mesh in my opinion.
We felt like having seen Black Panther helped us understand/enjoy Infinity War better.
The Marvel movies are just the latest cherry on top of the Marvel Universe that has been written about in comic books for years. My husband (and now all my kids) have read most of the back stories, so their appreciation of the movies is quite different than just the casual movie goer (like me). I go with them sometimes, but I don’t really expect to “get” all that character development and nuance that is written in the original comics. I just watch them for the fun of it! 🙂
We were having a family discussion the other day as to whether we should read the comic books and whether that would help us understand and enjoy the movies more of it would just be spoiler alerts! 🙂
If you decide to go that route, be sure to peruse them first. While my 15 year old is allowed to read them, I am pickier with my younger son just yet. More is often brought out in the comic books than in the movies, in many ways.
That’s good to know. I was wondering about that!
You get points for going to see a superhero movie. I’m so over the superhero trend that I haven’t kept up with the last 5 movies. I’d love for romantic comedies or dramas to come back in style.
My husband I liked Infinity War so much we bought tickets to see it a second time before we even left the movie theater parking lot after seeing it the first time. Now we’ve seen it five times. 🙂
Wow! I think that makes you super fans! 🙂
We seen Infinity Wars at the theater and my husband and his kids were so excited to see it. They loved it. I liked it too. I can see that if your not a super hero fan and don’t keep up with all the movies, you would not really know the characters very well or not at all and get a bit lost. There is a lot of speculation on how the movie will continue and who will come back to life or not. I thought the humor in the movie was awesome.
I’ve actually watched almost all of the movies and am a fan… so I wasn’t lost, I just felt like maybe there are so many characters to follow now that it sort of feels like too much is going on to me. But I want to see the next movie and hopefully it will help me have more clarity on what’s going on and where things are headed and then I can tell you whether I like it or not. For right now, I’m just not sure! 🙂
I agree that there was a lot going on in the movie and you really had to pay attention (not one of my strength’s). With fighting going on, on earth, and this planet and that planet, and more in space, that is what got me more than all the characters.
