We’re having a heat wave here in Kansas and it’s been so hot that we’ve not been able to spend a whole lot of time outside. So this afternoon, we were all feeling a little cooped up and antsy.
My solution? I told the children we could go to Target — which is a huge treat for them as Target is one of their favorite stores in the whole wide world. I guess it doesn’t take much to fascinate and excite them! 🙂
In addition, to looking at the toys and letting Kaitlynn spend her birthday gift card, we also picked up some of the great deals:
Nectarines — $0.99 per pound, got 1.6 pounds — $1.59
Apricots — $0.99 per pound, got .54 pounds — $0.54
Glade Fabric & Air Odor Eliminator – $3.49, used $1/1 printable, stacked with $2/1 Target printable — $0.49 after coupons
Tresemme Hairspray (travel-size) — $1, used $1/1 Tresemme coupon (Click on the “Like” button on the Tresemme Facebook Page to print your coupon.) — Free after coupon
Axe Travel Size Body Wash – $0.97, used $1/1 printable — Free after coupon
10 SoBe Water (20 oz.) – $1 each, bought 10 and used 2 Buy One, Get One Free coupons, got $5 Target gift card — $3 for 10 after coupons and gift card
2 BULL’S-EYE Barbecue Sauce — $1.25, used $1/1 BULL’S-EYE Regional Barbecue Sauce coupon — $0.25 each after coupon
1 Scrubbing Bubbles Power Sprayer Shower Cleaner at $8.69, 1 Scrubbing Bubbles Power Sprayer Shower Cleaning Refill at $3.99 — used $5/1 Scrubbing Bubbles manufacturer’s coupon, stacked with $3/1 Scrubbing Bubbles Target coupon, used Buy One Scrubbing Bubbles Power Sprayer Starter Kit, Get a Refill Free coupon — $0.69 plus tax for both after coupons!
2 small packages of Carefree liners — $0.94, used 2 $1/1 coupons — free after coupons
1 Dove deodorant — $1, used $1.50/1 Dove coupon — free-plus-overage after coupon
4 Fruit2o Essentials drinks — $0.89 each, used 2 $1/2 coupons — $0.39 each after coupons
After coupons and a $5 Target gift card I’d earned during my last trip, my total was $11.26. Plus, I got a $5 Target gift card back for buying the SoBe water!
I went to Target and used the Banana Boat $1.00/1 coupon from today’s paper for a $0.97 travel size and two Jergen’s Glow $2.00/1 coupons to get two small $1.99 ones of those. The Scrubbing Bubbles Power Sprayers were price cut to $6.99 (they were 8.99 last time), so I got one of those free after Target and mfr coupons. Their Axe body sprays were cheaper than they used to be ($3.74 – usually nearly $5.00). Hubby insists on these even though they’re normally pricy, but with the online $1.00/1 coupons, they weren’t too bad this time. I used a $5.00 gift card from a previous visit and a $5.00 off coupon I’d received in the mail, and the coupon printer gave me another $5.00 coupon! The advice here has been so helpful – I can’t thank you enough!!!
OMG, Target is becoming worst than Walmart when it comes to coupons. They often have great deals, but they mkae you go through to much trouble to make getting the deal worth it. During my last trip, they gave me problems with the Sobe Q.s, the scrubbing bubbles qpons. It was horribe. they make you feel like a criminal. I guarantee you that the couponers know more about their store policies and procedures then they do. They need to have a couponer train their staff including “how to spot a fraudulent coupon. ” We are more aware of the fraudelent q’s than they are.
The Target near me is really funny about certain things and I was sure they would not accept both coupons for the scrubbing bubbles, but they did! I did notice in their coupon policy it says you cannot have more coupons than products, if I read it right, but I had more coupons so obviously it does not matter! I wonder (as mentioned above) if it had to do with the young cashier I had, as a teenager you probably don’t care about the rules or coupon use so you scan away.
Not to be prejudice or anything but I always have an easier time using my coupons when I have a young cashier like a high school student. I find that older women in particular want to scrutinize every coupon I have.
Thank you for this post. I walked away paying $0.64 out of pocket today with two bags full of stuff. I was so happy when I left. I was going to do the scrubbing bubbles but our Target was all out of them :(. I am sorry for all of you above me that had a hard time with your coupons at Target. The one in Layton, UT is awesome. I even had a manager personally go back in the back and check to see if there was some more Wonka Chocolate back there. Such a nice guy.
Thanks for the way your break down your shopping trips now- it is so helpful! I got one of the Scrubbing Bubbles sprayers and was able to use both the $5 and $3 coupon but I bought a few small clearance items- rice, tomato paste, green beans- I only had to spend $1.05 OOP for everything!
I grew up in Kansas. I have been following your blog for years. I can’t believe I didn’t know you lived there! What city? I’m from Wichita!
My target let me use 10 50 cents off sobe TC with my 5 bogo ips for free sobe and a free giftcard.
I am so upset with my Target, well basically the Manager of the Cashiers at the Clinton Pointe store in Michigan. The cashier first told me I couldn’t use both coupons. I said Target lets you stack the coupons. She said that would be $8 and the item is only $6.99. I said you just adjust the price down so there is no overage. She calls her Manager over and they have a little pow-wow over it (I hear the cashier grumble about all the Sobe coupons-totally unrelated, right?!). So the Manager turns to me and says I can’t use the $5 coupon on it because it’s the wrong product. I said what, it is the right product. The Mgr. says the coupon says “Starter” on it and the product doesn’t say “Starter” on it! I said it is the “Starter” because it has the sprayer mechanism on it and the only other thing they make is the refills. She then repeats it doesn’t say “Starter” on it!!!! CAN YOU BELIEVE THIS????!!!!! Unbelievable…she must think I am an idiot because I sure thought she must be!! She obviously didn’t want me to get away with legitimately stacking the coupons and getting it for free, because like the others stated they could have adjusted the coupon down to a total of $6.99. I typed an email to Target Corp. about this incident and hopefully they will respond. How ridiculous is that saying they wouldn’t accept the coupon because the bottle didn’t say “Sstarter” on it?!
@Anita Hiltz,
I had a similar thing happen to me at our local Target here in Fl. They would let me use the $5 coupon as well as as the $3 coupon for the Scrubbing Bubbles sprayer, but not the one for the free refill, because it didn’t say it was a starter kit. The cashier was getting irritated, so I just told her to keep the refill. At least I got the Sprayer for free! Before that, I went to another Target and they let me use all of my coupons without any problems. I guess you never know what they’ll take or not!
@Anita Hiltz,
I have had this happen too with the word ‘starter’ not being written on the product. I finally told them to keep their SB stuff and give me back my coupons and that I would be contacting corp b/c I have their q-pon policy right here. WHipped it out and then all of a sudden, the q-pons were acceptable. I hate Target, so I rarely use them.
Just today tried them out for a few things and I had one of those B3G3 Renuzit qpons. The cashier tried to tell me that he can’t give me 3 free b/c the qpon says not subject to dbling. I then explained what it meant by doubling and that I had purchased 6 all together and 3 are free JUST LIKE THE QPON SAYS. I think he couldn’t figure out the math in his head. 1.84 x 3. HA. Then he said he would just void 3 of the products off.
It’s funny…..my kids LOVE Target too. My son loves it for the “big red balls” that he runs up to and touches, and my daughter loves Target for the popcorn.
You did better than me but I am just starting this so I want to brag anyways. Unfortunately, my target is not well stocked, so hopefully that was a one time thing. Anyways, I got 10 jars of baby food regularly 77c each, for $3.90, effectively making them 39c each after sale and Target coupon. I also got a great deal on 2 John Frieda shampoos, combining one $2, one $3, and one Target $3/2, and I ended up paying about $2/2. I also took advantage of the Old Spice $3.99 sale, plus buy 3 and get a $5 GC deal. Combining that with 2 BOGO coupons, I ended up getting 3 body washes and a deodorant for $7.98 – $5 GC = $2.98! Not bad for a first timer…they were out of a couple of the good deals, but I will check again next week!
thankyou for your responces, i think I have it figured out I spoke to a lovely lady on the phone with customer services and she explained it all , basicaly as long as the computer accepts the coupons you’re good to go, and she gave me a $5 gift card, I’m happy again after my experience with miss grumpy pants yesterday lol.
Im actually replying because I follow your blog and I know that you are in Kansas, but I was wondering where at? Im in Manhattan!! Thank you
your SoBe coupon link does not work?
@jan,
Neither does the link for the Bull’s Eye BBQ sauce.
Geeze.. I have been trying to buy the scrubbing bubbles stuff for a week at Target here in Topeka- its NEVER on the shelf. I even tried getting a raincheck- in case the price went back up-no luck. They suggested I drive to Lawerence.
@Alleyb, I found it my second trip. Still no luck with the Clean and Clear or the Vanish Drop-ins. They don’t seem to be very stocked at Target. I quit shopping there a few years ago because everytime they had something in their ad, we would drive 20 minutes to go get it and they wouldn’t have it. Now, we have a new one 6 minutes away (right across from a Wal-mart) so it is a little more convenient to check in. But still frustrating…good luck.
I had a pretty good shopping trip at Target yesterday (on the Missouri side). They were still out of the Clean and Clear Finishes face wash and the Vanish Drop-ins (still hoping to do those deals). However, I did come across Muir Glen diced tomatoes (with Italian herbs) marked down to $1.23 and used my $1/1 coupons, so snagged them for $.23 each. They also had Cascadian Farms Granola TPC to $2.60 and I used a $1/1 on that. I got the “free” travel sized Dove hairspray (2) and Axe deoderant (2). The cashier did lower my $1/1 Dove to $.97 to match the price. I got the Scrubbing Bubbles Gun and stacked the $3 Target Coupon and the $5 M. Coupon. I didn’t have the BOGO though. I also got the Bullseye for $.25. They had Special K cereals on sale for $2.75 each and buy 4 get 1 Free. So I used two $1/2 Kellogs coupons and got a pretty good deal on that. I had some free Kraft coupons I used too. All in all I spent $21.96 and saved $42.96. My daughter was with me and when we were leaving she said “I feel like we are doing something illegal”. I thought that was funny.
Besides the smell the commercial shows it starts to work whenever water goes on. So if you have a kid who drops a toothbrush or something onto where you used it and then puts it in their mouth…bad deal!!!
As always, you did great, Crystal! Someone posted above that they were disappointed they missed the Scrubbing Bubbles coupon – that is one product I prefer not to buy due to the chemical smell, and because I used it in the bathrooms (not great ventilation even with the fan). What tipped me off to this was I was cleaning away and one of my cats came in and upon smelling it, started to choke/gasp. That cat has no health issues and it was the only time she has ever had problems. Has anyone else noticed the strong smell and is also concerned by it?
@Laura, I agree – the chemical smell is scary! I hate to think what that does to your lungs.
I rarely use chemical cleaners just because I dislike chemicals and their smells — especially because we have young children. I mostly was just buying this to see if I could stack the three coupons — it was an experiment for my own personal reference to know for the future! I’ll likely give them away or stick them in my next garage sale!
@Crystal,
I actually liked the Scrubbing Bubbles Extend-a-Clean better than my normal cleaners (Lysol or Scrubbing Bubbles foaming). It didn’t give me a headache from the smell like most other cleaners.
@Laura,
Yes, I definitely noticed the smell. It did clean my tub/shower wonderfully though! But I probably won’t use it Every TIme I clean…just when it gets bad. I don’t use in on my sink or vanity.
Not to brag (haha) but I got $34 worth of completely necessary stuff yesterday for just $3.40…then I got the $5 GC on top of that! OK, maybe the Life Water isn’t CNS, but I like it on a hot day, so it’s a treat that was free! Usually I’m not a big Target fan (we have no Super Targets here and my nearest Target *never* restocks) but these past few weeks are changin’ my mind!
DON”T FORGET THE SC JOHNSON $5 REBATE – for 3 SC Johnson products (Scrubbing Bubbles & Glade should qualify) bought by 6/30/10 (don’t know the front end date) and post marked by 7/15 (I think) you will get $5.00 back.

Hi! First of all thank You for remainder! I forgot about this rebate… Any way I’m new, to coupons, rebates… So still have to a lot too learn. And I’m confused a little bit.
On rebate form said “write the THREE UPC bar code numbers from the product packages in the space provided…” You know the rest, any way but it’s don’t said include original UPC. What I’m confused about on the receipt scaned bar code diffrent from the package? So what should I do.??? And another one, what if your receipt total is example $0.64 and you want do rebate for $5 that’s O.K too do?
And thank You all!!!! I’m adicted too this websait!!!! I think this is too much WORK and Time put in!!! I can’t keep up just reading it… Thank You all people who involved!!!
The SOBE’s are 10 for $17 here in HI. I hate that!
Oh I may have to venture to Wichita tomorrow to Target just to get out of the house. My kids are starting to get pretty restless being couped up, you know summer is here in Kansas when it is to hot to go to the pool.
This is great because the Scrubbing Bubbles is 6.99 at the Target here in Arizona so those all end up being free pluz overage!! Whoo hoo!
Hi – can anyone else confirm whether or not you can get the Bullseye Original with the ‘regional’ coupon? My Target only has Original as far as I can tell.
@Kate, I wondered about that one because my Shoprite has the blinkie for the “regional” but only has original. Why would they have a blinkie for something they don’t even carry? Odd.
Your kids and I would get along because I LOVE target! 🙂
Looks like the Glade $1/1 printable is gone 🙁
Crystal. I got the Sobe deal. I had 5 B1G1 free coupons plus 10 $0.50 off Sobe Target coupons. After coupons I didn’t pay a dime AND got the $5 GC!!!
I’m sad the Scrubbing Bubbles BOGO coupon is gone now…I was actually gonna do that deal!
@Allison, You can still get the Shower Cleaner for really cheap, I live in AZ and they are 6.99 at Target here, so minus the $8, they end up being free plus some
@Claudia, I get overage all the time at Target with the exception of one cashier who always inspects my coupons forever and acts like I’m stealing from them by using them. I try to avoid her, but she just adjusts them down if my coupon is more than the item.
@Claudia, my store here has them on price cut for 6.99 also!
Anyone know if Target allows Overage? I tried the other day and the cashier said No i couldn’t use it because the item i was buying was less than the coupon..even with other items. I left and didn’t purchase from there i was so upset.
@delicia, Target’s coupon policy states that they may adjust the coupon down if it is for more than the price of the item, so they should have accepted it. You can print their coupon policy from their website and carry it with you, in case you have that problem again.
@delicia, I don’t know their policy on this, but I get overages all the time. You just have to have other items so it doesn’t show that they owe you money. I’m not sure what their actual rules are on this though.
@delicia, YMMV! Sometimes I get overage and sometimes I don’t! I would say don’t go expecting but be excited when it happens!
@delicia, I really think it depends on the cashier, some times they are just down right mean and act like they are giving you things from their pocket. I once had a lady tell me that she couldn’t give me something I had a free coupon for because it was “too much” according to her and I had her call a manager because my coupon wasn’t expired and I was within the limit and there was no reason for her not to give it to me.
@delicia,
I get overage too. For instance- The Extend-a-Clean is on price drop to 6.88 at my store. I used both the $3 TQ and the $5 MQ and it gave me both for a MM.
@delicia, I ran into this problem today – first time I tried to get anything “more than free”. I had three sample-sized items, $0.97 each, with $1 off coupons for all three – and the cashier and her manager both told me I would have to go back to the shelves and buy something that costs more than a dollar if I wanted to use the coupons.
If this happens again, is it something the customer service counter could fix? I didn’t have time to ask today, but I was seriously considering it.
(I should add that I was buying other things too, so it’s not like the total charge came to a negative amount or anything!)
@delicia, I think it depends on the cashier. I encountered one this morning that wouldn’t take my $1 off coupon on a trial size of Dove Hair Spray priced at $ .97. But another cashier at the same location did for the Tressemme the previous week. Strange.
can anyone help? I guess i caught my cashier on an off day, she wouldn’t accept my so be bogo free coupons exclaming that I wasn’t technically buying them since there was a gift card envolved , this goes against there coupon policy right or do they have the right to refuse ?
@Louise, You can use your giftcard for that. It is as good as cash. I would have went to a manager. That cashier doesn’t know what she is talking about.
@Louise, Last time I did the deal, the cashier looked at all my coupons for 5 minutes confused, then called her manager over and said “He can’t use all these coupons can he?” The manager told her “If he has the proper amount of items, scan them”. So just call a manager over.
@Louise, i just returned from my north central florida target + learned that the manager has decided that the customer can either uses the bogo coupon or recieve the gift card but not both ~ which i think is a bunch of garbage! ugh!
@Louise,
I just got back from Target, where the supervising cashier told me I could only use ONE Sobe Q even though I purchased a total of 10 bottles. It wasn’t worth arguing with him, but it sure is frustrating when they are inconsistent. I like the suggestion about printing a copy of their Q policy. The last time I went, the cashier tried to tell me I couldn’t use a manufacturer’s Q along with a Target Web Q and I was able to tell her otherwise because of what I’ve learned on this website.
@Louise, I had a similar problem early in the week. They told me that due to the $5 giftcard I would be receiving they would only accept one BOGO coupon. I promptly rejected the SoBe water purchase, left – then emailed Target and explained what happend. The next day they sent me an email back, apologizing, and told me they called the Target store I referenced and told them it was ok to accept the coupons. Sure enough that afternoon, I went back to the same Target and was able to get my SoBe water with ALL 5 BOGO coupons. The cashier is not always right.
