I’m currently challenging myself to stick with a $70 grocery budget for our family of five. This includes almost all of our breakfasts, lunches, snacks, and dinners + most household products (toiletries, laundry soap, etc.).

Kaitlynn and I went shopping today since we had $53 left to spend on groceries this week. We went to a Kroger that we usually don’t go to — and this Kroger has this section that is all markdowns of scratch and dent items. It looks completely disorganized, but we found some “treasures” in the mess!
Not all Kroger stores have these markdowns sections, but definitely check to see if your store does, if you haven’t already! You never know what you might find!
We bought more junk food than usual — but do the organic veggies and whole wheat flour help balance it out?? 🙂

Since your family seems to like broccoli, a sheet pan meal we’ve been enjoying is baking chicken tenders and whatever veggies you have/like (broccoli and asparagus are delicious!) together. Sauce is 2 T melted butter, 3 T soy sauce (we use tamari or GF soy sauce) and the juice of one lemon. Drizzle a third of it over the chicken tenders and bake for 5 minutes at 400. Take out and add the veggies around the chicken and drizzle rest of the sauce. Season with whatever you’d like. I like lemon pepper seasoning but you could use whatever your family enjoys. Bake for another 15 minutes. I then take out the veggies and broil the chicken for 2 minutes to brown it a bit more but that’s not required. Super easy, fast, and everyone likes it!
You did get some good deals. Wondering what did your family eat for meals? I’m on a budget, but not a $70 budget.
I love your site.it is just me and I spend more than 70.00 per week. I live in Elizabeth City and we only have Wal-Mart and 4 food lions in a 10 mile radius.
Those are great prices and I could tell that you saved a lot but how do you take those ingredients and turn them into meals. Just curious.
I’ll be posting our menu plan for next week on Monday. 🙂 I usually post menu plans, but because we were traveling the last month, I took a month off from doing so.
