1 box of Quaker Instant Oatmeal — $1.99, used $2/1 coupon (no longer available) = free
1 bottle Xtra Laundry Detergent — $1.99, used $1/1 printable coupon = $0.99
1 jug Minute Maid Orange Juice — used free catalina coupon which printed from our last shopping trip (Don’t ask me why, but every time we use my husband’s Dillon’s Shopper Card, we get great catalina coupons!)
2 cartons of Silk — reduced to $0.99 each
2 cartons of Almond Breeze Almond Milk — $1.50, used $0.55/1 printable coupon (which doubled to $1 off) = $0.50 each
1 International Coffee Creamer — $1, used $0.55/1 printable coupon (which doubled to $1 off) = free
1 Horizon Organic Milk — $1, used $1/1 printable coupon = free
1 Marie Callender’s Bakes – used free product coupon they sent to me
1 Excedrin — used free product coupon
1 Roast — reduced to $5.03
2 Jalepenos — $0.28
Total spent: $9.25
Total saved (according to my receipt): $31.97
I couldn’t figure out why my total was as low as it was, until I realized later that they ended up taking off the full product value on the free Excedrin and Marie Callender’s coupons, which gave me overage on my order since these were on sale.
Just printed the Almond Breeze coupon and noticed there is no bar code. This happened on Avery labels several weeks ago, and Walmart refuses to take these coupons when there is no bar code. Is this a problem with my printer, or with the site?
Thanks for your help!
I’d be careful using the XTRA that comes in the purple bottles (there is two kinds), my dad said that it turned all his whites a pinkish/purplish color…
Also this Laundry soap is for basic stuff it doesn’t clean very good.
Thanks for the coupon link, I might have to get a few more bottles I got about 20 bottles (the smaller bottles) at CVS when Dollar General had the $1/1 Coupons and they were on sale for $1.50 😀
I’m so jealous of the double coupons and the lower prices- prices here in the Northeast are at least double!
Boy, do I wish Texas had Kroger! I just spent two weeks with my family in Colorado, which has Kroger, and I sooo miss it. 😛
My husband’s Ingles card always gets better catalina coupons too! I wonder if it’s because he rarely does the shopping so they are just trying to bring him in the store more often. He went yesterday and brought home a catalina coupon for a Free 2 Liter of Sierra Mist.
@Ashley,
Do you recommend each person get a discount card? My husband and I use the same “account”. Would it be better to have 2 separate accounts?
Yeah no stores double in my area either. Bumbed about that. I know growing up they did but those stores are no longer around.
The price book is when you take a notebook with you to your normal store and write down the prices of items you buy frquently and then that way you know if you come across a “good” coupon that will make your item Free or near free. That way you know if it is a good coupon. Obviously if the coupon will make the item free you should probably find more of that coupon and stock up on that item for future use. It is helpful to know the price of items you frequently use. I am terrible becuz I have not done this. I live off of the Target deals that are posted on here. And try to stack as many coupons as I can to get great deals. I went to Target today and spent $192 and left owing $41 because of the coupons I had gotten together. 6 of the coupons were for the Excedrin FREE bottles. I am actually teaching a coupon and deals class in my town in a few weeks. To help others who want to learn how to do this.
Can you let me know a bit about how you know a coupon is worth it? I saw that someone mentioned a price book. Can someone give me advice on that?
You did fabulous! My husband and three kids are lactose intolerant, so I am always looking for the best deal on soy and lactose free milk. There are no double coupon stores in my area either, but when we lived in New Jersey I loved it.
Thanks for everything you do to help us save.
Happy New Year

Wow. Almond Breeze starts at $1.50? At my grocery store it’s $3.79 and sometimes $2.99 on a good sale. I knew your groceries were cheaper than mine on the East Coast, but that’s crazy. Great job saving anyway!
My Xtra coupons printed off in Spanish, which was a first for me too. Our Dillons accepted them, but won’t accept the free Excedrine coupons. There were lots of great deals to be had at Dillon’s this week : )
Great trip!! I’m working on getting our grocery bill down under $50 a week for just the 2 of us. I’d love it if I could get it to $40 or less each week. I decided on some menus for the next couple weeks and went shopping today to stock up for 2 weeks. I’m still trying to get used to using coupons. I started filling out my price book today as I was shopping and felt a bit overwhelmed. Whew!! I can appreciate what it will do for me to see the prices and know if a coupon will be worth it or not, but it’s a lot all at once. Thanks so much for posting this and all your other frugal tips!!
LOL! Did your Xtra detergent coupon print in Spanish? I’m not sure why, but mine did just now. I hope my stores will take it. I bet Walmart will, but I’m not so sure about the other stores in my area. They seem kind of touchy about printed coupons. Thanks again.
Yes, the Xtra coupon is in Spanish, but it went through without a hitch.
thanks for the Almond Breeze Q!
I was excited to recieve my FREE Excedrine coupon in the mail today. And now seeing that you got that overage makes me ever MORE eager to go get it!! Maybe that will work in my favor too!! Thanks for shareing!
Wow! Those are some great deals! I am in the same boat as Deb above, no stores double coupons where I live. We drink almond milk regularly and the cheapest I’ve been able to get it on sale anywhere is $2.50 for a half gallon, so you really got a bargain. I really appreciate the help you provide on your blog, thanks so much for all the work you put into it:-)
I know that you got your blogging start with a grocery shopping course. Is it still available? I love it when you list your groceries out in detail so I can see how you saved so much money. Our income is taking a drastic hit in January, so I really need to learn how to use coupons to save on groceries. (Currently we are spending about $70 a week for two adults and 3 kids.)
No, I no longer sell anything on my blog. But I do have the 31 Days to a Better Grocery Budget series available (soon to be a free ebook download and free video course, too!).

It must be nice to live in a place where they double coupons. In NYC where I live they don’t double and some places won’t take coupons printed off the internet.
I’m in Brooklyn and very jealous of the folks that get double coupons. Anyway, there’s a site you might want to check out for coupon matchups in NYC. It’s http://brooklynbargainista.blogspot.com
Terrific! Thanks for passing it on!
