I didn’t get to go grocery shopping until yesterday because I unexpectedly ended up in the hospital on Friday and Saturday of last week.
But I was excited that there were still some great deals when I went yesterday evening!
I think our store must have had an overstock of sweet potatoes because they had a BUNCH of 4-packs marked at just $1 each!
While this wasn’t the best deal on Nathan’s franks, it’s the best deal we’ve seen in awhile so I bought two packages for using for grilling out soon.
I was happy to find some marked down eggs!
And I got lots of peppers! They were marked down to 3 for $1. We love to slice them and eat them raw — sort of like potato chips!
All totaled, I spent $62 on groceries — so I’m under budget another week!

Wow, even having to go to the hospital while pregnant is really scary. Im glad to see you’re out. Sending positive vibes.
Question about grocery shopping: do you go with a meal plan in mind & buy what you need for it + the extra good markdowns? Or, do you go, get the good markdowns & then figure out what to make with them?
Also, what do you do with all the eggs? Do you crack & freeze? Make things, then freeze? Or use them within the next few weeks, no need to store them?

I meal plan after I shop. I try to always make sure to buy/have enough on hand for around 10 dinners and then usually find deals and get inspiration for dinners from what’s on sale/marked down. Sometimes, I might have a meal in mind that I want to make but just need a few ingredients for that meal, so I’ll pick those up at the store.
We love eggs and eat lots of them so we never have any trouble going through them. We can easily go through 3 dozen in a week.

I didn’t realize you are pregnant, congratulations. I have a question about your grocery shopping. Do you buy meat at the store or do you buy a cow and have it butchered?
Crystal Paine says
Yes — just a few more weeks until baby is here! We buy our meat at the store… I just look for whatever is marked down/on sale and usually buy a few extra pounds when I can and stick it in the freezer. Since I’ve been doing this for a few years, we always have 25-35 pounds in the freezer to work from.

Crystal, praying for you, baby, and family! Have they tested you for pre-eclampsia? I had all the same symptoms(minus fibroids) and was never diagnosed until I switched doctors(due to moving) at the end(emergency induction 2-1/2 weeks before due date). It was my 4th pregnancy. I kept telling my husband something was off and didn’t feel right my whole pregnancy but could never put my finger on it. My baby also had movement issues. I saw the Lord in the big and small details and was so encouraged that He’s always got it. He’s got you. <3 Job 42:2 was a constant comfort. "I know that you can do anything and no plan of yours can be thwarted."

So far, I’ve not had high blood pressure (it was elevated last week the first time they checked but that was right after I’d found out that I may need to deliver the baby in the next few hours because it appeared baby was struggling) or protein in my urine or blurred vision or swelling, etc. It’s something they are watching closely for, but no signs so far and I’m grateful! I’m sorry you experienced that last pregnancy!
