Back by popular demand and because I actually went shopping this week, here’s what $40 total bought at CVS, Aldi, and Hen House:
Our CVS deal is worth mentioning since it would work well for a newbie:

Bought 2 boxes SmartStart priced at $4.59, on sale B1G1, used 2 $1/1 coupons
Paid with $12 in ECBs and $0.59, Got $11.98 ECBs back!(Read more about these deals and where to find the coupons here.)
Another deal I was excited about from Hen House: we got Kathrynne’s ultimate favorite yogurt Yoplait yogurt drinks for $0.48 per pack of six. (They were on sale for $1.98 and we used the $1.50 coupon here.)
Our combined three-store trip wasn’t anything incredible, but we got enough groceries to last us for the week, along with a few extra treats, and we spent right at $39!
Here’s the menu for this week:

Hey all! I had another great CVS trip and only spent $.51 oop after my coupons & ECB’s. However, because I live in North Texas and the sale starts on Friday (I shopped on Sat.) $10 of my ECB’s didn’t print out on the lip gloss and toothpaste. I had to call the number on my card and she said she could’n’t fix anything until 24hrs. had passed. Oh well. She will call me on Tues to straighten things out. While there I talked to the checker and asked about other people who came in to work the deals. She said that there are groups of women that are in coupon clubs that come in, use the wrong coupons, are rude, argue over everything and do 10 transactions a piece. I hope you all know that it is illegal to do coupon fraud by trying to use coupons for something that you have not bought and copy coupons. Don’t we all get enough great deals at CVS that we can do it the RIGHT way? I have worked retail and I can’t imagine doing 70 transactions right in a row! Lets all try to treat others how we would want to be treated. Thanks for reading.
I just found your website and I love it. I will be coming back for your great moneysaving tips. Thank you.
I am still amazed at how you spend only $40 and get all of that. I am also envious of those great stores you have near you. We get some good deals, but you really take the cake!
You have a little gift on my blog. I am sure you receive tons of awards, gifts, nominations, and such, so I will completely understand if you chose to pass on the process. I just wanted you to know that you are an encouragement to me and I felt others would benefit from seeing you listed.

GREAT Target deal: Buy 4 boxes of Pop-Tarts for $9, get $5 Target Gift card and…buy the right boxes with tokens and get a FREE Children’s book! So $4 for 4 boxes and a book! Use 2 Kellogg’s coupons and get the deal for $2!
You have an award waiting on my blog. Thanks for making me smile!
When the P&G Saver coupons are in the paper, are none of the other ones there? Red Plum? Smart Source? New to coupons and wondering why they aren’t all there every week…
I love reading about everyone’s deals, even though I can’t do all of them here! It’s inspiring to know that people are finding ways to use their money wisely. Thank you for this site, Crystal!
My DIL and I headed to Publix last Sunday ready to fill our carts with savings when my granddaughter laid her tiny head on her mother’s hand. Her mom looked at me and said, ” She is so tired!” But when I looked over I saw what her mom couldn’t see, my dear 8 month old granddaghter was having a seiure!
The Publix employees were AMAZING! They acted quickly to call 911 and gathered around to do anything they could to help.
My granddaughter was lifeflighted from one hospital to another and spent 3 days in the hospital. For the first 2 she didn’t know her parents or anyone else. She had no control of her limbs and tubes and monitors were connected. On the 3rd day she was SOOoo much better. Today she is fine but we have been told she has a greater chance of reoccurance so any and all prayers would be appreciated.
We didn’t make any purchases this past week but I am sure there is no argument we expirenced a greater savings than ever at the grocery store!
I just thought that I would let you know that powerade is 60 cents a bottle at Walmart. With the coupons you mentioned last week, I think that they would be free. We didn’t get those in our papers but we did manage to get some “tear-offs” at a local gas station a while back that were $1/2 so that made the powerade $.10 a bottle. We bought 14 bottles for less than dh would have spent on 1 at the gas station. Thought I would let you know.
Blessings,
Carie
Sorry about the smiley face again! I don’t know why it does that. Hope no one minds?!

What an amazing day at Walgreens! Thanks so much for the tips! Today was my best deal ever!
I just became a HUGE fan of ALDI. I know you go there a lot. Do you use many coupons?
o.k. I have been doing this whole coupon thing for about four months now and have been getting better and better and finding incredible deals (with everyone’s help of course) I think last night may be my best yet (hopefully they just keep getting better) I haven’t been to the grocery in about two weeks (I think other than milk) Last night I hit Kroger, Walgreens, Meijer, and Walmart (By the way I work M-F until 9pm and really like to do my shopping after work (no kids or husband rushing me) I started around 11pm & finished about 3am ( a long day for me when we started our home school day at 9am ) But man was I pumped when I was able to find most of the bargains and freebies I was looking for. I got $356 worth of food & toiletries for $120 and lots of free items. 3 loaves of bread, 8 bottles shampoo, 4 (4pks) toilet paper, 8 pkgs cheddar wursts, 7 pkgs cat treats, 3 cans dog food, 5 yoplait yougurts, 2 mineral make-ups, 1 bottle steak seasoning, 3 boxes popcorn (woo I think that’s all of the free stuff) Thanks for letting me share, you all have really blessed my life!
Hi there! I just had to share my CVS deal! I just “found” your blog this week and have gone to CVS 3x (I pass it nearly every day) just to try to get some ECBs started.
This morning I decided that since I’d pass the CVS again on the way to the PO and I had almost forgotten about their B1G1 Kelloggs cereal (and I had a $1q for each box!), I’d just go ahead and go. They also had a big tent sale when I got there for things outside for 75% off. Here’s what I got:
1 Kellogg’s Smart Start Cereal $4.69
1 Kellogg’s Frosted Mini-Wheats $4.29
1 box Playtex Sport Tampons $4.99
1 CVS Toothbrush $1.99
1 small pkg makeup sponges $0.99
5 toe separators (for painting toenails) $0.99 each = $4.95
total before sales/q’s = $21.80
-.50 toothbrush on sale 1.49
-$4.44 75% discount on toe separators & sponges
-$4.29 free box of cereal
-$1q tampons
-$2 $1/1 for each cereal
-$1.99 free toothbrush q
-$5 ECBs
= $2.85 OOP with tax
PLUS I got $5 ECBs back — $3 for the tampons and I don’t know why I got the other $2, but I didn’t argue! Also, we’ll use the toeseparators for goody bags for daughter’s bday!
I was so excited! I can’t say thank you enough for such a fun and informative website!
Hi, I just want to say that your menus are all so easy, healthy, and inexpensive that it really inspires me to do the same! I know everyone is on a budget these days but to see you can feed your whole family on $40/week is awesome… it is just my husband and I at our house and I aim for $50/week. Now I see I can do better!! Thanks for taking the time to post all this info.

I really like it when you post these things they are a huge help. I also understand why you are sad to have lost your Krogers in your area. I love mine, they double coupons up to $ .99, they have great deals very often, and they send me great coupons several times a year. I love mine. I would not have known how great of deals I could find at mine if i had not read your blog.
So is your verdict in so stick to your 40 a week? I know you were tinkering with the thought of spending more your first–doing a two week menu, then buying just necessities the next week.
I go back and forth on this situation too so I was curious as to what your thoughts were on it 🙂 Have a nice labor day weekend!
Could you list some things for husbands to take to work with them for lunch? I get tired of brown-bagging it!
I found so many great deals this week I’m too tired to even post them all, and now I’m reading all the deals I missed! Have a wonderful Labor Day weekend!
