We’ve been keeping a secret for 11 weeks — I’m 15 weeks pregnant!!!!
Yes, this news was possibly even more shocking than when we found out I was pregnant with Kierstyn after 10 years of infertility! In fact, we were so surprised, we waited a full week to tell our kids — which, if you know Jesse and me well, you know we can’t keep secrets from our kids!
We found out I was pregnant right after saying yes to adopting Baby D… who we thought was going to our family’s caboose! But God definitely had different plans and we just had laugh at the timing of it all!
We also have to marvel at how we went from grieving the loss of being told that we’d never be able to have more kids a few years ago (not even through IVF) to now prepping for having 3 littles with the oldest being barely 2 years old! Oh and at 40 and 41 years old! Only God!
We are all thrilled and excited with this very unexpected news and how God is writing a story here that is so different than what we could have ever dreamed or imagined!
I’m slowly coming back to life after 9 weeks or so of the usual morning-noon-and-night sickness and extreme exhaustion. If you’ve noticed I’ve not been sharing as much here and not sharing food/cooking/recipes or videos with my face much on Instagram stories, now you know why!
For all the details on how we found out, how we told our kids, and more, be sure to listen to today’s podcast episode below (the link is below)
Want more details on my pregnancy? I’m sharing more and answering your questions over on Instagram today.
Note: I know that this news will be really hard for some of you to hear. You’d give anything to be pregnant and hearing another pregnancy announcement feels like a gut-punch. I want you to know you’ve been heavy on my heart and I’ve been praying specifically for you. I also want you to know that you have my full permission to unfollow or mute my social media accounts for awhile — whatever you need to do, please do it and know I will fully support you in that.

All throughout my long and difficult pregnancy with my fifth child, a good friend reminded me that she was the fifth, and her mother was so thankful for her.
And it is so true! My fifth child is a gift like I never could have dreamed to ask for. It seems parenting just keeps getting better, and the days get sweeter.
Congratulations on your fifth child!

You’re going to have to change the intro😂🤣! “Mother of 4 and foster mom”. Congratulations 🎉🎉

Amy says
My mom had me when she was 42 and my dad 47. As the youngest of 5, I always said she saved the best for last ;-). Congratulations on this newest life. I pray health and happiness for you and your family during this pregnancy.
Teresa says
I’ve been following your family for years and love to hear how you give your lives to God and how he has blessed you in so many ways! Love the pictures of Baby D and Kiersten with the surprise sign. Kiersten looks like an angel in the picture that she has her hands folded in. I always think babies and kids are the closest things that we have here on earth to heaven!
Cheryl says
Thats wonderful news! Congratulations!!
Hope Ware says
Crystal,
I was 40 and 43 years old with my last two sons. Late-in-life babies are such an incredible (though often unexpected) blessing from God. I hope you feel amazing for the rest of your pregnancy.

Congratulations! I was fine until you mentioned the gut-punch and prayer. Then I started to cry. So deeply touched by what you wrote. I am genuinely happy for all of you and will continue to follow your pregnancy journey. <3
Crystal Paine says
Thank you for your kind words!
Jess says
Congratulations!!! We have two sets of twins from multiple rounds of IVF and had a SURPRISE when I was 41. She wasn’t planned but I can’t imagine life without her! The fact I’ll be **59** when she graduates from high school kind of freaks me out but it’s obviously part of the plan!
Crystal Paine says
Since Jesse and I had just processed and wrapped our heads around adopting a sweet little boy who likely need care-taking for the rest of his life, I think it was a little less overwhelming to think of being 58 and 59 when this baby graduates from high school.
Anne Irvine says
I am so happy for you and your family. Babies are blessings however they come into our lives. When I was 21 I was told that I may never be able to have children.
I was devastated but I always thought that it’s in God’s hands. I had been married for two years when our first baby came along. He was our miracle baby I was told and that I should treasure him because he might be our one and only. Fast forward 12 1/2 years and I became a mother for the sixth time to our last little boy who is now seven. I had him when I was 42. And was also called a geriatric pregnancy😁 ! Again congratulations to you all and I can’t wait to follow your journey.
Crystal Paine says
This will be my second “geriatric” pregnancy. My clinic calls it “advanced maternal age” which sounds a little nicer! 😉
Angie says
Congratulations!!! I work with your Dad and he knows I follow you but he sure didn’t let it slip that you had another one on the way.
Your hands will be full. My oldest step-grandson and his girlfriend had 3 kids in 2021, twin boys in February and a daughter in December. There are two other daughters too so they are busy.
Crystal Paine says
Wow! Three kids in one year??? I can’t imagine but that’s impressive!

Elizabeth Clare says
Oh, Crystal! I am so, so happy for you! I’ve been following you since before you started this blog and you have really inspired our own journey (always debt free and mortgage free by 31 on one income). We have 4 older kids and then really struggled to have more (for 5+ years). Around when you had your little girl (which I was thrilled about) we found out we were expecting #5. I’ve always wanted a dozen kids but, unfortunately, I have some health issues that mean we likely won’t have more (only God knows). This news just makes me soooooo happy! God bless you and your little ones!
Crystal Paine says
Aw! Thank you so much for being such a longtime follower and for your kind words!

I am praying for you and your family. What wonderful news of this amazing, surprising blessing. Thank you for being so sensitive to those struggling with infertility, which you do understand. I am Mom of two miracles (now 35 and 37) after years of infertility and two pregnancy losses. I am now “Amma” (grandma to 3, with a 4th on the way). God works in wonderful ways. Our son, was a miracle baby/double rainbow baby, and now, along with his wonderful wife has a 3 year old daughter and another little girl on the way. Our daughter, our “bonus baby” has two boys – 7 and 10 years old. Life is good.
Crystal Paine says
How fun to get to be a Grandma now!

I rarely stop in here (or any blog, for that matter) and don’t do social media, so haven’t been following you too closely the past couple of years, but today was a day I popped in! What fun timing! The Lord sure is good at sneaking these surprise babies in! We welcomed #5 when I was 44 1/2, and it was one of my best pregnancies and births. May it be the same for you!
Crystal Paine says
Thank you so much!

We felt done and complete after #5 , my husband was supposed to get clipped , covid hit and the procedure was cancelled for being non-essential . I was 39 years old , our then youngest about to enter school . We were shocked and even a little upset as we were finally out of the baby stage . But God has a plan to add a precious child to our family .
The pregnancy was difficult , 14 weeks of terrible nausea and vomiting , nerve pain followed that , dealing with covid restrictions for appointments and the birth . I’m still tired , as tired as a first time mom , but our baby girl is a blessing and brings endless joy !! Gods plans are always better then our plans . Congrats on your pregnancy journey !
Crystal Paine says
Yes! His plans are the best! And this will be my second Covid and “Advanced Maternal Age” pregnancy. Who knew those would be things I would be saying??? Gratefully, the hospitals and Dr’s offices here have a little less strict rules so far this time around and you can actually bring someone with you to appointments!!
Chris says
Very happy for your family, Crystal. I have been following you since you were pregnant with Kaitlynn, and rejoice with you. Like you said, Only God. 🙂
Crystal Paine says
Thank you — and thank you for being such a longtime follower!

YEAH!!!! I am so excited for you! After 10 years of secondary infertility we ended having 2 more and it was the best planning God could have given us!!! I know I have shared before but my kids are 26, 23, 13 and 11. I think if I weren’t 50 now, I would have gone for another set.
You know in the back of my mind when you had a surprise to share I said to myself. Maybe she is pregnant, but with all you had going on, I said nah….
Thank you for sharing with us!
Crystal Paine says
Thank you so much!!
Andrea says
How wonderful!
Crystal Paine says
Thank you!
Claire says
Thank you for the compassion you have toward those of us who have not been blessed with this type of a miraculous surprise. I am truly happy for you and have been blessed in so many ways (including adoption, my biggest blessing) that I would never begrudge you this miracle, despite wishing that I had been blessed with more children myself. God gives each of us the miracles we need. Congratulations, and may you have a safe and healthy pregnancy and delivery. I’m looking forward to hearing more of your journey.
Crystal Paine says
Thank you for your kind words. I just stopped and prayed for you.
Claire says
Thanks so much for the prayers Crystal! I’m praying for you and your baby as well.
Debbie says
Claire, thank you for putting into words what I could not. My husband of 24 years and I had always planned on a big family, but God had other plans for us. He blessed us with our now 11 year old son at the ages of 41 and 44 after 12 years of infertility. Now at 52, and so incredibly blessed with the most amazing son I could have ever imagined, I still grieve for that big family we wanted so long ago and the inability to give siblings to our son.
Congratulations Crystal and family! Such wonderful news for your family! 🙂
Claire says
Debbie, I completely relate to your situation. You and I are the same age, and I too have one living son (through adoption) and feel bad that I haven’t been able to give him a sibling. Yet we’ve been blessed in so many other ways. God is so good, and I’m so happy for Crystal. Praying that 2022 will be a great year for all of us!
Christine says
WOW! Congrats! What a huge blessing for you and your family. I’m so thrilled for you!! Thanks for sharing the great news!!
