My camera batteries died a few days ago and I've yet to get any new ones, so this edition of Super Savings Saturday will require you to use your imagination to picture. 🙂
We only did a quick shopping run this week for groceries and I spent about $47 at Dillons. My friend also found Libby's canned pumpkin at Wal-Mart reduced to $0.25/can so she picked up 24 cans for me! I was very excited about this deal as I love cooking with pumpkin and I have never in my life gotten Libby's pumpkin for that inexpensive!
I'm envisioning more than a few batches of Pumpkin Chocolate Chip muffins and Pumpkin bread in the very near future. And wouldn't those be great to add to my ever-growing After-the-Baby freezer stash? Methinks so.
In other bargain news this week, we also went shopping for a "coming home" outfit for the baby. We discovered, in going through our baby clothes boxes recently, that we have no newborn outfits aside from a few gender-neutral onesies. I guess the girls wore all their few newborn things completely out (and I suppose you could say that is one downside to only having a few outfits–especially when you have babies like mine who grow slowly–there aren't many hand-me-downs!)
At any rate, since we know what we're having this time and we had some extra cash in the clothes money envelope, we thought it'd be fun to go out and do a little bit of baby shopping. We noticed Gymboree was having a big sale so we decided to check it out. I really didn't expect a "big sale" at Gymboree to be much of a bargain when their normal prices are far above what I'd ever consider paying.
But was I ever surprised! They had a number of racks of clothing priced at $5.99 and under with an additional 20% off that clearance price! So we ended up buying a few teensy-tiny little baby things for just a few dollars each.
(By the way, it's probably a good thing my camera batteries aren't working because otherwise I'd be extremely tempted to post pictures of these absolutely adorable baby things. And then that would totally spoil the secret we've been closely guarding for the last 10 weeks–whether we're having a girl again or not!)

The way you phrased that last sentence, I think you’re having a boy. I can’t wait to know for sure!
Don’t sell Gymboree short! I’ve never bought anything for full price, but I routinely shop the clearance rack, especially at the end of the season. I buy clothes for my oldest daughter a year in advance and can often put together a complete outfit for $10-$12. Gymboree’s clothes are well made and wash well, so my younger 2 daughters can frequently wear their sister’s hand-me-downs.
What a great deal on the pumpkin! I would love to come across that because we eat chocolate chip pumpkin bread all the time.
Carter’s was having a great sale too this weekend if you have one near you. Their original prices are high, but I always get coupons from them and the put things on clearance really quickly. My 9 mo keeps outgrowing his pants!
Crystal, I had to laugh when I read your post. I recently found pumpkin for $1.00 a can (29 oz.) at Walmart (not as good as your deal, but still good). I, too, bought 24 cans! My husband thought I was nuts!
P.S. I make a double batch of the pumpkin muffins every weekend and found that plain yogurt is a fine substitute for half of the oil. I also don’t double the sugar or the chocolate chips, and they turn out great.
here is once upon a child’s site, you can see if there is one near you! http://www.ouac.com/
For good deals on baby/toddler clothes, we have a SUPER resale shop called Once Upon a Child, and a new one called Kid to Kid. They might be just local stores, but check your area for something similar. They only accept clothes in really good condition. I went yesterday and got my 5 year old 3 pair of shoes. Spiderman sandals were $2.50, dress shoes (Kenneth Cole Reaction) for $6 and some sketchers for $5. Grabbed a few shirts in there as well.
Another Gymboree lover here 🙂 Gymboree always has great deals going on if you know when and how to shop. If you shop online, always request their free layette gift boxes- they often include 20% off coupons in them! My kids are clothed almost exclusively in Gymboree, and we never pay retail price for it. And aside from the quality being great, the resale value is terrific! When you’re done w/ your Gymboree, you can sell it, sometimes for more than you paid, to pay for new clothing!
I have found the Gymobree outlets to be very reasonable on clothes for my daughter. Althought the outfits may cost a little more than other stores, they wash much better and never seem to wear out. Our Gymboree clothes have been passed down through 5 little girls and they still look brand new.
I haven’t been out alot lately to any deals.
But this is the one I made it out to at
11 pm. last night and worth it. Love your
blog:)
I had first thought you were having a boy. But now that you write this, I have to wonder, why would you be going through old clothes and looking for newborn outfits if you were truly having a boy? You wouldn’t have really looked in the first place if it was a boy; you would have immediately known that you didn’t have any blue clothes to bring him home in. So, now I’m thinking you may have written this post with this spin to make us all think it’s a girl when it’s not so you could surprise us all. But then again you could be dying to get the secret out so bad that you wrote this post to subtly tell us it’s a girl!
Wishing those camera batteries hadn’t died today so we could see the clothes……
Oooh, what a great find on pumpkin! I have a copycat Starbucks Pumpkin Cheesecake Muffin recipe that’s super yum!
Take care!
I have recently started making my own bread. I had bread pans on my wish list. This week I found and bought 2 of them them at the dollar tree!!
I was just wondering if you make any changes to the pumpkin muffins to make them any healther?
Thanks.
I find wonderful deals at both Gymboree and The Children’s Place. I tend to think it’s sort of like the grocery store that doubles coupons, you’d never want to buy the full priced items but when they have a sale it’s a good one!
We like to put pumpkin in our pancake mix (along with a little nutmeg) to make pumpkin pancakes! Yummy and more healthy! We always add a little something “extra” to our pancakes, either pumpkin, sweet potato puree, or carrot puree, along with some vanilla and cinnamon. We love them this way, and we’re getting a few more vitamins!
I buy almost all my baby clothes at gymboree on clearance. Many times they have 20% off clearance, then they send me a 20% coupon I get to stack with it. And then they have Gymbucks: spend 50, get 25 dollars off your next order. And the clothes are great quality – and they have the cutest boy stuff!
I have a closet full for my son up to 3T.
I just wanted to let you know that Wal-Mart has a bunch of Gerber baby onesies and jammies on clearance. I think they were around $4.50, and there were several in each package.
Oh darn, I thought for sure you would give us a glimpse and then I could guess what you are having! You sure are doing well at keeping this a secret!
For all the coffee lovers out there… you can get a free sample of Dunkin Donuts coffee. Just go to dunkinathome.com, and click the “Taste For Free” button on the right side of the page.
I love Gymboree! I only shop at the end of the season, buying a year ahead. I’m on their mailing list, so I routinely get 20-25% off coupons, which can be used on clearance items. I’m able to buy my girls Gymboree clothes for less than clothes at discount stores, and the quality is much better.
You’re having a boy. I just know it! I’ve felt it would be a boy from the moment you said you were expecting. 🙂 So excited for you and your family to be adding a little bundle of joy.
You might want to try these muffins for your stash, too. Pumpkin + banana + chocolate chips = YUM!

I am jealous of the pumpkin score!
Depending on the expiration date of your pumpkin, it could be used for very inexpensive baby food. We fed our youngest pumpkin like that!
I loved shopping at Gymboree when my now almost 13 year old was little. We would go in the door and go straight to the back where the sale racks were. If you could find the right size or the next size to grow into, the sales were phenomenal, ya just have to be patient for the price to drop into your range. We were usually able to get the outfit, matching socks or tights and the hairbow for little money. These also resale great at a consignment sale, I never lost what little money I spent when I resold, I usually made money..which meant another clearance rack shopping trip!
But if you were having a boy, why would you be looking through the old baby clothes? 🙂 Keeping secrets is fun though…I just can’t ever keep my mouth shut! 🙂
Gymboree has excellent, excellent sales and their clothes are of a very high quality. If you get on their mailing list you can also get coupons for an additional 20% off or additional 30% off — including sales merchandise. Perhaps you should consider watching their website/store more often. I think you would be very surprised. My kids are almost always dressed in Gymboree, Children’s Place and Strasburg Children and I rarely pay more than $10 for anything on their bodies. AND it is quality stuff that can be passed down to my other children (I have three girls). I’ve **never** had a Gymboree outfit wear out.
Mmmm…me thinks so too. 🙂 You’re adorable. Happy for you Crystal! 🙂 May God continue to bless you as you continue to bless others with your life. Can’t wait to hear if it is a girl or boy! 😉
Sounds like you found some great deals at Gymboree. I think it is so much fun shopping for baby clothes. Your muffin recipe sounds yummy, I will definately be checking that out. Thanks!
I’m curious – are you just not telling people on the internet the gender of your baby, or are you not telling anyone (including family)? I’m asking because we’re going to find out this time, and I’d like to keep it a secret too, but I’m not sure if that’s even possible…
That pumpkin stuff looks really good!

Money Saving Mom here: We’ve not told anyone outside of our two daughters. And they have both done an incredibly remarkable job at keeping it a secret! I’m sure that those closest to us have some hint of what we’re having, but no one knows for sure. It’s been a fun little secret to keep as a family! 🙂
One reason I don’t want to know the gender is that I would be totally tempted to blow our budget buying baby things, especially if it is a girl (after having 2 boys the girly stuff is so adorable!).
Good find on the gymboree stuff. You can’t find it that cheap at the local consignment stores here, they mark it up due to the label!
I found a Old Navy 40% Printable coupon and just wanted to pass it on to you. Thanks for all your work! Here is where to find the coupon.

I second Rachel’s comment on the Children’s Place — Wantnot.net lets me know when they are having a big clearance sale on the web site and I have gotten high-quality tops and dresses for $2-5 each — less than consignment prices!
I hope you will post your recipe for chocolate chip pumpkin muffins. I don’t have any good money saving deals, but do save money with the helpful ideas you share.
Thanks…

Money Saving Mom here: Jamie, I linked to a recipe very similar (or maybe identical–haven’t doubled-checked) to the one we use. It’s linked to the words “Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Muffins” in the post. Hope that helps!
I am able to find EXCELLENT prices on adorable clothing at The Children’s Place Stores. Their end of season sale racks are unbelievable- and if you’re on the mailing list and get the coupons for 15% off and have thier “place perks card” (not a credit card- but a card similar to those bonus cards at grocery stores and CVS) you can earn 10.00 for every 75.00 spent. I was able to score 4 packs of girls panties for my littles for a jaw dropping 20 cents!
Gymboree does have good deals on clearance, and I have found their clothes to fit my son well (aka, their sizing makes sense) and last a long time.
I’m going to check out your muffin recipe. Sounds wonderful!
