My sister and I headed to Dillon’s and Target last Saturday night and here’s what I ended up buying (excuse the photo quality, I snapped them with my phone because I was in a hurry!):
At Dillons: my total was $1.76 after coupons and sales for everything shown above! Plus, I got a $1 catalina back for buying Lunchables which they had already given me overage to buy! So my receipt showed a savings of 99%, but it was really more than that when factoring in the catalina.
Yay for stacking great coupons with Kroger e-coupons and sales promotions!
At Target, I paid $9.83 for everything shown — and got a $5 gift card back for buying razors. Woohoo! (My daughter asked if she could please be in the picture, too!)
We also stopped by Walgreens to get a few of the freebies, but they were completely out of all the good deals. Looks like someone else beat us to the sales — maybe one of you? 🙂

For anyone else new to this, like me:) :
Yesterday my Revlon coupon didn’t scan at walgreens. (I was using an insert coupon on the Creme lipgloss deal. The coupon said ‘on an color cosmetic’ and the cashier tried to tell me it wasn’t valid. ‘Um, isn’t a lipgloss a color cosmetic?’ “Well, it doesn’t say that on the wrapper.” ‘I’m confused- the coupon has a picture of lipstick on it…’ “It didn’t scan. You can’t use it.’ “Oh…can you try to manually enter it in?” ‘Sigh. Eye roll. I guess I’ll try a second time.” ) It worked the second time. Then she proceeded to tell me, in a super-nasty tone, that they aren’t allowed to enter in coupon numbers. If it doesn’t scan, it doesn’t take it. Period. Ok Lady! My point is, don’t be afraid to ask them to scan it a second time, because it might work after all. And there is no reason for them to be nasty- I’ve been a cashier before and re-checking a coupon is *not* a big deal.
Does anyone know what is going on with the Brownies at Walgreens? At mine, they have a new Walgreens, individual-pack brownie that the cashiers always ask me to buy. One of them told me that they have to try and sell them. They are made with trans-fats, so I wouldn’t buy one myself. I’m just curious about the promotion. I don’t like being ‘sold to’ at the checkout. (Although I can certainly empathize—I worked for a large coffee chain and when they launched a new product, we got in trouble if we didn’t try to sell it. It was a source of tension between the staff and management. Most of us felt that, we were there to serve, not to sell- sell-sell.) Long comment- happy to have a community! My husband has a limit to the coupon-talk.
I am curious. You are a minimalist, right? What about your stockpile? I would love a sneak peek of it. 🙂
I actually posted a picture of my household product closet a few months ago during the Clear Out the Clutter Challenge. I try to keep it fairly paired down — no more than 2-4 months’ worth of household products on hand at one time.
That’s so cute your girl wants to be in the picture. My girl does the exact same move, laying her head on the table to make sure she’s in the picture…so funny!
Great Job! I have been using price matching and coupons and today at Wal-Mart I sent 13.26 for 31.01 worth of items. I got a four pack of Shick razors for 4.89 price match – 2.00 coupon for total of 2.89, a 24 oz box of Cheerios price matched for for 1.88- 1.00 coupon for total of .88, Dove deodorant 3.96 price matched for 2.00-2.00 coupon for total of FREE. Tresemme shampoo 4.88 price matched for 2.99-2.00 coupon for total of .99. I two items that I had price matched but no coupon for. One item with coupon but no price match and only two items that I did not have a coupon or price match for. I also got a WOW from the checker!
I’m totally loving this!
I thought of you today when I was at Kroger.I had a list of what I wanted and had the coupons to buy the sale items also.Once I started looking at my coupons I realized that I left the Kroger coupons at home.Shopping went fast because I wasn’t going to buy without the store coupons.All of you posts have taught me lots .
Good job!! I too got great deals at Target. Spent $30 after a total of $56. The cashier even told me “good job”, that was very uncommon. LOL Cute little one in the pic.
I wish I had a sister to go shipping with – you are very blessed.
does anyone know how long the oscar mayer turkey bacon will be 1.99 at Target? is it just this week – ending today 🙁
TIA
I wish our stores out here in WA state doubled coupons regularly! $0.76 shopping trip is pretty fantastic, way to go Crystal! : )
I awarded you a Sunshine Award on my blog.

Thank you so much!
I wish my Kroger didn’t act like I was a criminal when using coupons. I always get dirty looks, managers, and heckling when I use coupons. Their policy is that I can’t use more than one Internet printed coupon from the same manufacturer in one order but the cashiers always try to tell me it is that I can only use ONE internet coupon period so I have to get them to get out the policy. So annoying. I rarely shop there anymore because of it 🙁
@Misty, Kroger here for us is Foods Co. (also called Foods for Less). They don’t allow internet coupons period. I had one cashier even show me their memo on the internet coupon policy, but the store manager decided he didn’t want to take any internet coupons at all. I’ve talked to corporate about it more than once. The last response I finally got was that they would try to figure out a way to let me use the coupons despite his policy, and then get back to me. Still waiting.. that last e-mail was 3 weeks ago.
Hey Crystal I have a question about stacking coupons and e-coupons.
What is your stance on this? I hear that Safeway’s coupon policy pretty much states they are okay with it (via Krazy Coupon Lady), but I’ve written to the manufacturers themselves a while ago and they basically said they consider it to be double coupon use and not legal and are trying to figure out ways to stop people from doing it. I’m totally and utterly confused on if I should be doing this and encouraging my readers to stack the coupons or if I should be wary of doing it and tell people straight out NOT to do it.
Any help you could provide would be appreciated.
Shortcuts and Cellfire both state that their e-coupons cannot be stacked with paper coupons. However, Kroger has stated that their e-coupons can be stacked with paper coupons.
@Crystal,
Thanks much =).
I SO hate that when I stop by a drugstore and all the good deals are cleaned out. It’s really made me loathe to even bother trying to snag the free toiletries and stuff….loading up 4 kids only to come home emptyhanded is very frustrating to me!
You know many stores will give you a raincheck for a product if it gone. I do this all the time at Walgreens and our local grocery store. Then you just go back in a week or so. Use the raincheck on the item and get the same price you would have gotten during the previous sale.
@Mel, Yup, but it seems like a lot of times the deal with extracare bucks or rebates is only good for that week, so a raincheck doesn’t work. Boo. lol
@Kristen@TheFrugalGirl, The one time I got a raincheck at CVS, I asked if I would still get the ECBs, and they said yes. It was 2 weeks until they had the item in again, and sure enough, I still got the ECB’s!
@Kristen@TheFrugalGirl, CVS rain checks do not expire and you’ll get the extra care bucks when you use the rain check. Just be sure they copy right from the ad when writing the rain check.
Walgreens on the other hand, will give rain checks but after the sale will not issue Register Rewards.
Since figuring this out, obviously CVS has become my drugstore of choice, since I don’t have to rush out on Sunday to get the good deals.
@Kristen@TheFrugalGirl,
whenever I get a raincheck- I cut out the little description price and picture from the ad and staple it to the raincheck- it helps a lot later
@Kristen@TheFrugalGirl,
I find that to be the biggest bummer about CVS too. Especially when I take the time to load up the kids! Oh well. I always get rainchecks, and sometimes wait up to two weeks later to get the product. Watch out that your coupons don’t expire, if you’re using any! Oh, and I try to go on Tues afternoons if I can, because our CVS gets shipments Tues mornings and everything’s back in stock.
Wish we had a Dillons here in Middle TN! Awesome job!
I wish we still had a Dillons!
I had no idea they had such great bargains until they were gone:(
Yay for cheap groceries!!
Aw, bargain shopping with a sister sounds like so much fun!
Smith’s in NV had a fabulous coupon event this week. They rounded every coupon that was under $1 up to a $1. It was awesome. I went back about 4 times and got all sorts of freebies. YEAH for couponing!
