In between moving last weekend, three flea treatments at our new home (Ick! We’ve almost obliterated them–or so we hope!), and having a garage sale this weekend, I’ve not done much bargain shopping this week. Next week it appears life should be slowing back down to a more normal pace, so I’m hoping to jump back into the game. And hopefully, I’ll finally have some pictures to share of what I’ve purchased, too!
That said, I did get a really incredible deal on prescription eye glasses that I had to tell you about. Back in September, a reader emailed me about Zenni Optical–a prescription eye glass company which sells glasses beginning at $8. While I was a bit skeptical myself, I posted about it since she had tried the company out and been pleased. To my surprise, a number of others left comments sharing about their good experience with this company.
Well, fast forward a few weeks later and my 15-month-old got a hold of my glasses and managed to break them beyond repair. I was really distraught over it as the glasses weren’t very old and I knew we didn’t have money set aside in the budget to buy new ones, nor did I want to pay for new ones.
I considered just not having glasses at all and only wearing contacts. After all, I wear contacts most of the time so glasses aren’t exactly a necessity, just a nice thing to have for back up.
But then I remembered that post about Zenni Optical. I showed the website to my husband and we agreed it was worth a shot. I picked out some glasses, we did the measurements, and paid our $12.95 plus shipping.
Two weeks later, the glasses arrived in the mail in perfect condition. While they aren’t the highest-quality glasses I’ve ever had, for less than $20, I was completely impressed. In fact, I like these new glasses much better than my last pair which I paid five times as much for at a discount eye glass shop with a coupon!
I would definitely recommend Zenni Optical to others needing prescription eye glasses. While you can’t try the glasses on ahead of time to see how they look, this is an excellent alternative–especially if you only wear your glasses part of the time or aren’t incredibly particular about how they look. Zenni Optical would also be a great place to order glasses for children who are prone to go through pairs rather rapidly.
I’m sold and doubt I’ll ever buy glasses anywhere else. A huge thank you to Education Mom and the other commentors here who shared this tip; you saved us a lot of money and made the glasses-buying process an exhilarating experience–something I didn’t know was possible!
So that’s one way we saved money this week. How’d you do this week? Post about the deals and
bargains you were able to snag this week or other ways you saved money
on your blog (with pictures, if possible!) and then come back here and
leave your link below. **To make it easy for everyone to navigate quickly through the links, your link must link directly to your Super Savings Saturday post.**
For those, who wear contacts, how do you stay frugal buying them? Are there any sites to get free or discounted contacts? Thank you.
Thanks for getting me started on the deals!
I can’t wait to order some! I’ve been wanting new glasses for quite some time but just didn’t want to spend the money! This is great!
I’m not sure how to send you information on a different deal than the ones already posted, so I decided I would just comment on this post.
Since one of the players stole a base during a World Series game, participating Taco Bells are giving out a free crunchy beef taco Tuesday, October 28th between 2 and 6 p.m.
You can go to this web site to get the details. (Not sure why it isn’t clickable!)

Here’s a link to great american cookie company: http://www.greatamericancookies.com/aboutus.html
They have a coloring page that kids can print out with coupons at the bottom. Also, they have cookie mail than send things on birthdays. Only drawback for me is they only let you register 4 kids and we have 5…
I got my eyeglasses last year from 39DollarGlasses.com and Optical4Less.com and I love them. There’s a blog that’s been extolling the virtues of online glasses stores and does extensive reviews of them: GlassyEyes.com
I used Zenni Optical for my daughters glasses. It has held up really well considering how much “abuse” it receives! I would definately use them again.
Glasses are way over priced in the USA. I used to work in Korea and had students who worked as eyeglass exporters. They were exporting them to the USA for $4 a pair and competing with China who was exporting them for $1 a pair. Eye doctors make tons of profit on even selling one pair of glasses so don’t feel too bad buying cheaper ones like the linked website has!
Thanks for always posting some great deals! They come in really handy when I can actually find things in stock – gotta get going early Sunday morning to stash some more cheap and free things away for charity!
I have 4 boys and 1 husband that wear glasses, thanks so much for the info. Also, thanks for letting me share my bargain today. I got $362.50 worth of stuff for $9.94!
Thanks again for all the advice!! I am just a few weeks into this and had a great $18 overage day at Walgreens!
One of our past rentals had fleas when we moved in as well! We got rid of the heavy infestation by having it (the carpet) sprayed with some sort of permethrine (sp?) solution along with nightly vacuuming for 21 days. After the 22nd day or so we seriously no longer saw a flea!
My mom got her’s here a few months back and LOVES them!!
Bought $55 worth of stuff at Walgreens that I paid $30 for after all coupons. Then I got $9 in rr and will get the other $20 back in rebates!
Love my glasses from Zenni. They are just as good if not better than my old ones — and much cheaper.
I too have ordered from Zenni Optical. I ordered frames that were $8/each and paid $12.95 TOTAL.
I am going to order some with tinting next to wear as “sunglasses” as I am sensitive to light/sun and have to wear sunglasses to avoid a headache and never could afford or justify prescription ones as I do wear contacts 50% of the time!!
Also ordering a spare pair for my 9yo that has already broke one pair of glasses in the first 6 months of owning them, lol.
I just received my son’s sunglasses from Zeni and they are great. I would of paid over $200 at the optical place we go to for his exams.
I am SOOO not going back to the persnickety boutique where I got my $700 (yes, slap my hand) glasses. I just found a $20 knock-off of my frames on this website. And since I’ve gone from 20/20 to tri-focals in 1 year, ha ha, I’m in desperate need of a new pair. Thanks Crystal!
Why do I suddenly feel like having ten different pairs of glasses in 10 different colors to match my shoes? 🙂 I’m such a deal FREAK! I want more glasses now!
I just wanted to say thank you for this carnival. I linked to this blog and my stats went from practically nothing to 75 within a few hours. I know 75 is nothing compared to your numbers, but it is an encouraging start.
Hey, I have those glasses, too! At the same time I got the awesomest sunglasses ever. I get comments on both pairs everywhere. I’ve told everyone about Zenni cause it’s just so awesome. Enjoy your glasses!!!!
Hi, I tried to post my Saturday savings to your post, but apparently I don’t know what I am doing. (New to blogging.) Would you delete #54. amy, please. I apologize for the inconvenience.
what a great post!!
gonna have my husband order some from there!
All you have to do to adjust your frames is put them in a bowl of hot water (like, from your sink, not boiling water). That is all Lens Crafter, etc does. Then adjust as necessary. I ordered my plastic frames online and didn’t have to adjust them at all, they’re a perfect fit. I got mine from 39dollarglasses.com.
I bought my sunglasses from Zenni and I love them. By the way, you do not have to be a customer at an optical shop to get adjustments there. I do go into my local one when I need an exam, and buy my initial pair there, using our insurance discount program. It ends up costing me a lot more than Zenni, but I feel bad going in for an exam without buying a pair. The upside is that I then don’t feel bad at all when I stop in to have any glasses adjusted, including the Zenni ones.
This sounds good I will have to try it out. My glasses are the bottom of the wave pool at the local water park. When a huge wave knocked over the raft I was concerned about grabbing the kids and did not think about my glasses. (they served as sunglasses so I kept them on.) Two hours later I realized they were gone and never found them. So I am doing the contacts thing and really want a pair of glasses for back up.
Okay, I am AMAZED… frames AND lens for only $12.95?!! Wow! This is perfect for someone like me who wears contacts 90% of the time, but likes to have a pair of glasses on hand just in case.
Thanks for the info.
This is where my hubby gets all his glasses. They are super hip too.
Shouldn’t all parents with small children get a pair just for back up!?!?!? Thanks so much for sharing this again!
We have several people in our family that wear glasses and this would save us a bunch. BUT…what do you do about adjustments?
Thanks for the eyeglass info!
I saw a flea tip a few days ago, and thought of you. If your flea problem persist try this…
place a few moth ball in your vacuum bag and vacuum daily. After you vacuum, sprinkle salt on your carpet. In about a week, your fleas should be gone!
You CANNOT beat that price for eyeglasses….good stuff!
