Back when my husband was in law school and we were living on our bare-bones beans-and-rice budget, we rarely ever had any extra cash to use for dates. However, I didn’t let that deter me from coming up with creative ideas for fun dates.
We’d take a picnic to the park, we’d go to the library and browse books, we’d take walks. If we could scrounge up a few dollars, we get a meal or two at a fast food restaurant with coupons or hit the $0.99 bowling night.
One of our favorite things to do was to head to a bookstore and get an iced coffee and just spend a few hours looking at books. We’d browse the shelves and then take a stack of books to a cozy corner and read for a while.
We usually paid for our drinks with a gift card I’d earned from MyPoints so the whole evening ended up costing us nothing out of pocket and would be a very relaxing and refreshing time for us to spend together away from the pressures and deadlines of law school life.
If you are strapped for cash but would love to also get to have a bookstore date on occasion, I’d definitely recommend MyPoints. It’s free to sign up for and you can earn points to cash in for gift cards by reading emails, printing coupons, playing games, searching the web, and taking surveys.
It takes a bit of time to accumulate enough points to cash in for a gift card, but if you have more time than money right now, it’s a great way to be able to enjoy a few free dates every year. Plus, when you sign up during the month of September, they are running a promotion where you can earn 50 extra points every day if you’re one of the first 500 people to click on the “Lucky Leaf.”
Thanks, The Freebie Blogger!

I do both. I have gotten nice amounts of gift cards from MyPoints ($100) mostly by click-thru , printing & using coupons, and surveys. So far I have redeemed swagbucks for 2/$5.00 starbucks gift cards. I do have a LOT of swagbucks…just haven’t parted with any lately. They both earn you points towards gift cards…so I encourage anyone to do both!
I have been doing MyPoints for a few years now and I love it. I do order from places through their site but still get the bargains. And since I have referred a few friends to the site I earn points everytime they sho[
I do mypoints and have for a long time. I love it! I did swagbucks for a while, but felt that it took forever.
This sounds great. Anything helps these days. So many of us are living paycheck to paychecm. I’m a single mom raising 2 teenagers & trying to finish nursing school. Rewards help tremendously.
They also announced on Facebook a couple of days ago that they were extending the number of people per day for the Lucky Leaf from the first 500 to the first 1000. =) I love MyPoints!
I’ve been a member of mypoints for many years now. At first I was getting the giftcards for the bookstore, until my local bookstore went out of business. I didn’t get any giftcards for years, just racked up the points until I ended up going without my monthly medication because of lack of funds. Because of my insurance, my medication doesn’t really cost that much, I was just forgetting to set the money aside and then it would be gone before it was time to pick up my medication. Then I looked at Mypoints and realized that I had enough points for a CVS giftcard which was the pharmacy I was using. I cashed out and have continued cashing out for CVS giftcards. I now earn my points quickly enough that I have quite the stash of CVS giftcards. So, I also use them to pick up the deals at CVS and end up not really paying any of my meager income for those items as well. Mypoints is a very good deal all the way around.
I love using MyPoints. I’ve gotten quite a few free samples to try from different companies when I qualified for their survey. I manage to get about $100 a year in gift cards, which has come in quite handy during the holidays!
I have been with MyPoints for over 5 years and I love it. I do Swagbucks also, pay out is quicker with Swagbucks, but I use MyPoints for holidays. MyPoints is my “savings” account, lol,and Swagbucks I use monthly to help pay for expenses and other things. I also had an opportunity to sign up for certain offers that gives me quite a lot of MyPoints each month, so although I have to wait for payout I do pretty well with them. I also get quite a generous amount of emails each month from them. I just save them up and cash out right before a birthday or black friday every year. EVERY little bit counts! I at least earn $15 to $25 a month if I do not skip surveys from a certain company that pays by MyPoints and use the searches and click on every email I receive.
I have Mypoints because of Bzzagent. It seems to take a long time for the points to be usable. They are pending for me for a long time. I have had it for a year and still haven’t cashed out. :/
This is misleading, you do not get 1500 points for signing up! You have to be one of the first 500 people each day to click on the leaf and you get 25 points a day. If your not, you don’t get anything. I think your post needs to be revised, so people are not signing up through the referral expecting to get 1500 points and they get nothing.
Sorry I meant to say 50 points a day not 25.
Thank you SO much for mentioning that. I misunderstood it and will update the post.
Jen, Swagbucks is better and much quicker than My Points. I do both but the My Points are not as generous.
Thanks. I think I’ll stick with swag bucks.
I do swagbucks. Does anyone know which one earns more gift cards?
I do both. I definitely get more with Swagbucks.
My understanding is that the 1500 points aren’t an automatic freebie for signing up. But they are giving away 50 points per day this month which would add up to that (except we’re already on the 12th day). I could be wrong. Either way, I love MyPoints!
It appears that you also have to be one of the first 500 people to “find and click on the lucky leaf”, so if you miss that opportunity, you’re not going to get the 50 points a day at all.
