Welcome to our at-home gym… currently residing in our garage. The walls are scuffed and it can be a little humid at times, but I love being able to work out at home.
I don’t have to pay for a gym membership. I don’t to spend time driving to a gym and back. I don’t have to figure out childcare. I don’t have to worry about looking somewhat presentable. 🙂
I can just walk out to the garage, hop on some equipment, and get in a quick workout. At this season of my life, it’s the perfect solution.
And it’s a way that I save money and time every single day.

I was given a bunch of name brand clothes for my now 11 yr old when he was 4 yrs old. For starters, I held onto those clothes and both my younger sons will be able to wear them. But today, I washed the clothes (attic smells musty, lol) and sorted through them and took a big bag of them to the nearby consignment store. I am hoping to get enough to at least partially clothe my two daughters for the winter. With 5 kiddos, I have learned to be resourceful. Plus, it’s very “green” to recycle clothes, right? 🙂
I made my own laundry soap 🙂
Doesn’t Jesse still go to a gym outside the house?
I’m saving by staying at home all day. Not using gas in the car, not eating out. Just a nice easygoing day!
I do a zumba workout on the Wii. No driving to a gym, no paying a gym fee, and I can do it in my jammies before I shower in the a.m.
I prepped dinners for my parents who will be watching my kids this weekend. I saved us money on take out and made their stay easy. 🙂
I decided to use a new used-furniture service in the Raleigh, NC area called MoveLoot.com. It allowed me to save money by buying used and have it delivered for free to my apartment. Very handy!
I also couponed and brought lunch to work :).
I saved money today by using plastic tubs and totes borrowed from my dad to pack for our move this weekend. My family of four is downsizing and moving in with my dad so we can pay off some large looming debts. We have a four year plan for paying them off plus investing so we’ll be so much better off when its over. We’re also doing the move in stages and only renting a small truck this weekend for furniture. To save more on packing, anything that can be packed inside something else to save on boxes we’re doing for example packing clothes in the dresser or suitcases instead of boxes or using towels and sheets for padding instead of paper. No idea how much we’re saving but I know it’s helping.
I have a potluck this weekend, and I looked at what we had left over from our CSA box to get the main ingredients (squash and carrot tartlets) rather than make an extra shopping trip or buy something.
Tonight we used leftovers in a whole new way to create an entirely new dish!
Today I saved a couple of ways! I made dinner at home. I love to cook but get tired of it. Lately I have been convincing my family to eat out too much. It feels good to make a delicious, healthy dinner for us. While I was cooking I noticed my bananas were past their prime. Typically I throw them out. Instead I made a double chocolate banana bread with them and we had dessert! Happy husband and kiddo!!!
Lastly, I did my grocery shopping at Target. Used coupons, cartwheel, mobile coupons and got gift cards back! I save over $60 on my grocery bill!! Yay!
Our family schedule is pretty full the next couple days so my daughter and I altered our menu and prepped the dinners. Busy days but healthy meals from home! No eating out!
Instead of calling in a pizza order, I made one at home from scratch using up left-overs from the fridge!
I took our three kids to the library. They played with a new toy for an hour and checked out a stack of books for free.
Our library started a coupon swap. You can go up there on Wednesdays and all coupons are in little buckets by category. Before I went grocery shopping today I headed to the library and left my coupons from the Sunday paper that I didn’t use and grabbed multiple ones from various categories that I could use for triple coupon week. I was able to stock up on non perishables in a HUGE way! A great way to not print anything, not buy more Sunday papers, AND check out some free books while I was there for my/kids entertainment!
We saved money today by refinancing our mortgage. The interest rate was 1.375 lower, and this will save our family thousands.
Made 6 quarts of chicken broth using a leftover carcass from a rotisserie chicken that friends brought to share for dinner the other night. I used leftover ends of veggies (carrots, celery and onion) that I saved when I made soup the other day.
I made dinner w/ groceries I bought on sale with coupons!
I prepared some freezer meals for when we have family in town next week. We’re always so busy catching up and taking them to all the kids’ events that meals don’t get prioritized. We end up going up because everyone is “starving!” I figure I saved over $150 by preparing $50 of groceries
What I did to save money…brought my lunch from home today! I also cut coupons and prepared my grocery list by checking the sales at stores nearby.
I packed my own lunch using leftovers from the other night, so I didn’t have to go out and buy lunch.
Little choices add up!! Money-saving choices made today…I created my own caramel pumpkin spice coffee drink at home instead of going to a coffee store this morning and also am taking online classes at college to save money on gas. Went by a local kids consignment sale and purchased a few winter items for my daughters (like new and most under my target price of $3 including fleece jackets from Gap!). Items we don’t need/use were sorted for a weekend yard sale. I bring an insulated water tumbler with me so I’m not tempted to buy a drink on the go and I’ll make a quick dinner at home tonight instead of going for fast food before church. Another small choice I’ve made recently is to see what’s on hand (I’ve heard it termed “shop the house”) before automatically buying something new. 🙂
I planned out my dinners for the week so that I would have enough leftovers to eat at lunch time the next day. It saved me at least $10 a day in not having to run out for a work-day lunch.
Our weeks have been busy with homework, sports and piano, not to mention we’re getting lots of cold, rainy weather. So made homemade potato soup (using potatoes we grew in the garden this summer) along with homemade bread for dinner. This will be a quick and easy dinner for after teacher conference and soccer practice.
I can alter and mend clothing myself and it saves me so much! There are tutorials posted on pinterest to help. Hemming jeans and keeping the original hem looks just like new. I put elastic through the back waistband of my slim little boys jeans so they don’t fall down. Adding patches on the knees of their jeans looks stylish now.
started putting my almost potty trained 2 yr old in panties, a little more patience and diligence but $ saved on pull-ups!!!
I’ve had a hard time finding a baby gate that fits the bottom of the stairs in our new home. The only one I’ve found that might work is $90. Hesitant to spend that much on a baby gate, I rethought where to put the gate and used one from our last home that wasn’t being used. Now instead of being at the stairs, it blocks the walkway to the stairs, but still works to keep my curious son from climbing.
I needed 1/2 cup of parmesan cheese for an alfredo sauce, so while at Harris Teeter, instead of getting a tub of cheese, I headed to their salad bar and got exactly what I needed…for 78 cents! They charge by the pound 🙂 I have gotten just the precooked chicken breast at the salad bar when they had a sale for $1.99/lb. If you’re looking for just a touch of an ingredient to make a dish, definitely check it out first!
Made dinner the last two nights from things I found in the pantry and freezer rather than just run to the grocery store. It ended up being good and we saved money.
Packed food to take with me instead of eating out somewhere
With a family 7 (including 5 boys in sports) I save money by making my own laundry detergent!
I made coffee at home this morning instead of buying a cup of coffee out.
We ate the leftovers from a potluck for lunch (and it was eclectic) and froze the rest so there was no waste. We also froze our expiring milk in 1 cup portions that we can use for baking instead of dumping it out.
Sticking with the exercise theme, I work out at home using free videos on YouTube. Saves the time/cost of driving into town, and the cost of a gym membership or fitness class. Plus, there’s always something different and exciting to be found that I can’t find in my small community.
I got up early before work and made dinner (with enough for leftovers) because we had community group in the evening and I knew I wouldn’t be able to cook when I got home from work. Also, my husband and I both work late Wednesday and I knew I wouldn’t feel like cooking when I got home, so now we can have the leftovers and not eat out!
I used up my crossword puzzle book and instead of buying a new one I now do two things – check out Puzzle Lady books from the library (I get a story & several puzzles) and I found a game on my kindle for free word puzzles.
I left my wallet in my husband’s car by accident so I couldn’t shop! So, that made me have to search through the freezer and pantry for dinner ideas!
Made homemade pizza instead of driving the 12 miles into town to buy it, counting gas savings I think I saved at least $15.
I walk my 6th grader to school. It’s not far but it saves on gas money. Bonus is that we get that time to talk and say a quick prayer as we walk (rain or shine). It actually saves time too because the drop off with all the cars and traffic takes more time when driving. And if her younger, homeschooled siblings are up for the walk they get a chance to play with the school children at the playground at the elementary school on the way home. fresh air, excercise, time to talk with kids priceless!
While cruising the net trying to find an affordable Halloween costume for my pre-schooler, she (after several other decisions 😉 decided that the cheer costume we were looking at was cool and she’d like to be a cheerleader. I quickly jumped on my Facebook and asked if any of my friends had a cheer outfit that would fit her to either lend me or sell cheaply. Within minutes, one of my friends commented that she had one we could use. FREE!!! Bod-a-bing!!!
I overslept this morning and had to run out the door, but instead of going through a drive thru, I popped a tea bag, milk, and sweetener in a travel mug and went. I used it in the keurig when I got to work.
I put dinner into the slow cooker so that it would be ready after a busy day.
For a Class my family attends on Tuesday nights, the teacher asked everyone to take turns bringing snacks. Most people bring something store bought: Krispy Kreme donuts, candy, nuts, bagels and cream cheese, chips and dip. We have opted to make something at home (cookies, pumpkin bread, potato bites) on our turns and it is much cheaper, plus healthier and better tasting.
Plus, since the class is at night right when my husband gets home from work, we had been stopping to eat out on the way. Now, we make our snack to share earlier in the day, skip eating out and save $20 a week that way too.
Brought home leftovers from Mom’s house for hubby’s lunch tomorrow! Love that!
Doing a few things to cut back today-
Packed everyone lunches for today, woohoo!
Took advantage of the candy sale & soda sale at CVS.
Working out with our wellness coordinator at work…saving time & gas by skipping the gym over lunch hour.
Thanks for the great giveaway! I would love to try the Mrs. Meyer’s products (:
I love my home to smell nice and I’m a little addicted to scented candles…but I ran out and didn’t have it in the budget to buy any.
So, instead I made a homemade simmer pot! I sliced up some apples for a recipe I was making, and put the peels and core in the pot. Then I added some ground cinnamon and nutmeg (about 2-3 tsp total) and a few cups of water. I stirred it all up and put the stove on low.
Voila! My house smelled nice and I didn’t spend a dime!
I saved by staying home all day. I got a bit of cabin fever; but nothing that a walk around the block can’t fix. But staying home, definitely saves a lot of money.
We saved money by reading books checked out from the library!
I used my Mrs. Myers lavender hand soap and added some water to it and poured it in my foaming soap container to save some $$. (My toddler has NO concept of how much soap is “enough” soap when washing his hands!)
Instead of the kids buying lunch at school yesterday, they both agreed to pack!
I had the opportunity to do a mystery shop for dinner, so I will get reimbursed for the meal (appetizer, 2 entrees and dessert). The bonus is that I and my guest both had leftovers to take home for another meal. That adds up to 4 meals for free by my calculations!
I brought my own water from home versus buying a water bottle as I had 4 hours to wait at my daughter’s pointe class. We also pack our dinners to cut back on the cost of the drive thru. Thanks for the great giveaway- we LOVE Mrs. Meyer’s products! 🙂
Today we did pizza at home rather than take out
I packed my lunch and brought a coffee from home, rather than buying out today. It’s a small savings, but it adds up over time.
I saved today by making my husband’s lunch, instead of him eating out, I hung clothes instead of drying them, and bathed the dogs instead of having them groomed.
canning.. as fall sets in and all the summer vegetables fade away I love being able to open up a jar of canned fruits and veggies instead of paying the outrageous prices for imported poor quality fruits in the grocery store.
My husband and kids had to take a quick trip to a repair shop about 30 mins from our home. I packed snacks and drinks for them to take along. Also hubby filled the car up with gas while there. Gas was .52 cents cheaper.
We’ve learned to save money in so many ways, but one way I have my kids help with the saving is by having them make the birthday cards for their friends. Store bought cards are so expensive and most kids don’t read the cards they get with gifts. By making the cards, the kids love making something that their friends like and their friends love getting custom cards. I, of course, get to save the $3-5 per card :).
Making coffee at home with yummy coffee beans I got on sale.
We played at the play place for free at the mall for a play date!
Speaking about workout, about 2-3 d=years ago, I discontinued my gym membership & started running outdoors. For weight training, I borrow workout dvds from the public library and purchased dumbbells from Marshalls on a good deal!
My daughter and I shopped at thrift stores today instead of buying new clothes.
I use swagbucks for my search engine and I earn sb’s for normal search activities. I’m saving up my points for Christmas gifts!
Last year I left work to become a stay at home mom after the birth of my second son. With more expenses and less income, I can’t justify new clothes for myself. This morning I pulled out one of my favorite tanks and found that I had bleach spots on it. Rather than replace it with a new one, I grabbed my box of lace and spent my son’s nap time sewing it over the spots. Now it’s like a brand new top!
packed my husband’s lunch 😀
I saved by switching my menu. Was about to decide on taco Tuesday when I realized my meat for the crockpot recipe was still frozen but decided on another planned meal that I could do with chicken I already had cook in the fridge.
I stayed home, which always saves money. Also, we have missionaries staying with us next week so I put out a sign-up sheet for meals at our church. Although it saves money, a bigger goal is accomplished by letting others help us minister in ways that they are able to.
My dryer has been broken for about 6 months so I’ve been drying my clothes outside. I finally called an appliance parts store and figured out what part I needed and was able to fix the dryer myself for less than $11. I saved by not having to call out a repairman or buy a new dryer. I just wish I had done this 6 months sooner!!!
I have this weeks grocery money sitting on my dresser. I am challenging myself not to spend it unless absolutely necessary. I am choosing to try to use what we have and make due. Hopefully I can stash the extra away for Christmas.
I earned 50 Swagbucks and was able to work an extra 30 minutes at my part time job.
I sanded and stained a few kitchen chairs I purchased at a yard sale. They’re not perfect as it was my first time doing such a project, but I saved a bunch of money and I am proud of my efforts!
Bring drinks from home instead of buying while we were out.
I saved money today by using leftovers from multiple meals to create a big pot of soup that served as dinner, 2 lunches worth for my daughter and I, plus enough to freeze for another dinner! Bonus: My fridge is cleaner too! 🙂
I eat leftover for lunch!
I made a batch of granola from ingredients I already had in the pantry.
I also took the kids to check out books at the library.
I saw that a tablet that I had just bought 5 days ago had gone on sale at another store. I went back to the store I bought it from and asked them for an adjustment and they did it. I got $25 back. Never hurts to ask.
Our new puppy got very sick this weekend. Let’s just say our carpets needed a cleaning. Instead of calling a carpet cleaner, we rented one from our local Hardware store and cleaned our own carpets. Bonus: This proved to be a “free” workout for my hubby.
I saved today by putting dinner in the crockpot before work so we wouldn’t be tempted to eat out 🙂
I cut my husband’s hair for him.
Hit up Kroger for free Huggies wipes then took advantage of a kids eat free night at ChickFilA!
I sold a few items on an on-line consignment sale, and used my earned dollars to purchase a few household items I needed/wanted from other sellers. I still have a credit amount which I can use on future purchases or I can cash out. Not only did I get items for my home for nothing out of pocket, I cleared out some clutter.
We packed snacks to eat in the car.
I combine coupons and the snap app, plus ibotta
I love Mrs Meyer’s products!
I always make my coffee in the morning to bring to work but I always end up buying a second cup to get through lunch. Today I made enough coffee for 2 travel mugs and ddidn’t spend a dime at work!
We packed our lunch after a park play date with friends. usually going out to eat would cost me at least $20 but today it only cost me $2. Yay for saving money!!
Used the new Snap Groupon app to get free Huggies wipes at Dollar General (one of the very few stores actually in the small village I live in) when combined with coupons. This should boost me to the $20 payout. Yay!
I saved today by packing a lunch, doesn’t sound like much but this is something I struggled to remember to do last week.
The hubby was in the neighborhood of my work and had to eat out so I met him at a local place where we had a coupon AND get a discount (15% off total order) from our local auto dealer any time we eat there…so we split a lunch and each got fancy coffees for about $10.00 at a nice local coffee shop! It was great because we got all natural local food, large servings, coffees were specialty- and normally we brew at home, and we got a nice unplanned date out of it!!
Also with him being in medical school now, our one-on-one time is precious-so it was an even sweeter deal! 🙂
I used an item from my “gift stash” to give to a friend for her birthday, instead of running out to the mall and getting her a gift card or gift. It was a super nice cookbook, so it was still a nice gift..but no extra expense for me.
I saved in several little ways today:
1. Made my own all purpose cleaner.
2. Cleaned my house myself.
3. Made dinner at home from scratch.
4. Did not drive anywhere (consolidating trips to save on gas )
I’m sure there’s even more , but those are the first few that I thought of. Thanks!
Since we have had a very dry summer and in need of water for our garden efforts, I opened up all of our rain barrels and put some buckets around our garden to catch all the rain I could from a massive storm that blew in heavy rain. It will save lots of $$ in keeping our garden happy!
I had promised my kids a treat today after their doctor’s appointments. (Shots are never fun.) Instead of driving to a store or going through a drive through, the weather was nice, so their treat was a trip to the park. So much more fun and free!
I started a new job and am able to car pool with my husband. I eat my breakfast while he drives me in and we share a snack on the way home. We estimated today it will save us at least $60 per week in meals out and gas. The unexpected bonus is quality alone time.
I saved today by packing my lunch for work, eating generic brand foods and cooking dinner at home. 🙂
I saved money by working out at home using a Walk at Home video on the Walk at Home website. 🙂
I saved by making coffee at home instead of going to Starbucks
I saved today by walking to the library to check out a couple of books. It was such a lovely fall day, too!
I saved today by printing coupons, planning my shopping in one trip and hitting clearance items. I also ate leftovers so stretch our food dollar!
Carpooled
I saved today by returning 2 clearance tops to Macy’s even though they were a great sale price they did not look that fantastic so I returned them to the store. Sometimes I have just kept satisfactory clothes and then only wore them a few times.
We took a (really old) gift card to a kids-eat-free place for dinner tonight (so as not to have to wash dishes before hosting Bible study!). The food was awful, so we’re glad to be rid of the gift card while still having gotten the free meal out of it!
I saved today (and my sanity) by going to Bible study. I felt as good as if I had just worked out:)
We promised our daughter a “big girl” bed once she was out of diapers. The day came (no more diapers
I really enjoy seeing how everyone saves money daily, in big and small ways! Inspiring! :). Today I saved money by enjoying the entire afternoon at a lovely park & playground with my family for exercise, fresh air and entertainment, with no cost but a bit of gas. And then going home to a simple, delicious meal already planned out! Small way to save, yes, but a day rich in memories and a heart filled with peace. 🙂
I adjusted the thermostat this morning before we all left for the day so that it wouldn’t run all those hours no one was home.
I made up some kitchen/bath spray cleaner.
We ate breakfast at home instead of our over night guests taking us out to a restaurant (so I guessed I really saved them money). My oldest daughter already had baked oatmeal mixed up and we had plenty of eggs, yogurt, apple sauce, blueberries and bananas – quick and easy. It also saved us lot time.
I sorted through the winter clothes for my forth daughter that I saved when my third daughter out grew them. Saving clothes from one daughter to the next has saved us a lot of money.
Recharged a bunch of batteries for everyone’s cameras so we will not have to buy more batteries tomorrow while we are enjoying the fall leaves and covered bridges with our guests.
I surprised my mother with a coffee today…I saved by going to McDonalds. They are having $.25 coffees right now 🙂
I went on line and found a lower interest rate for our credit card and signed up to pay off our card in 12 mos.
I saved today by redeeming two Meijer Mperks rewards that I had accumulated from purchases last month, so had $13 come off my total. That made my shopping trip a half price trip just with that savings tip. I love these daily posts of yours, Crystal! Great encouragement…as always!
Thanks so much for your kind encouragement!
I bought a package of Italian sausage patties that had a $1 off store coupon on it because it was dated to sell by tomorrow. I also had a manufacturer’s coupon for $1.50 off so ended up only paying $1.49 instead of $3.99.
i packed lunch to take to work today
I saved money by using a 50 % off coupon at Michael’s (craft store), to buy a soap making kit for some Christmas presents!
I packed breakfast/lunch/coffee/water for work today.
I saved today after my children’s homeschool co-op classes by convincing them to just go home (it was pouring down rain) vs. going out to eat – we came home and made a snacky lunch and curled up on the couch with a blanket and the stack of library books for an afternoon of stories and cuddles!
I needed a fax machine for work. Instead of going to a big box store or paying online shipping fees, I saved by scoring a used fax machine at a local store, Matthews Help Center, and proceeds go to the center, helping others.
I saved today by using up some near to their expiration date items to make dinner.
I saved today by having meatless Monday…on a Tuesday. I cooked a pot of dry pinto beans and used half to make pinto bean burritos and froze half for later in the week. The beans were on sale for 50 cents a pound making them by far the cheapest protein, and they’re tasty too!
We saved by eating today’s meals from the freezer.
I made a healthy, home made granola bar recipe with my daughter. Breakfast for the week: done!
I saved money by carpooling to work. We also cooked dinner at home last night and made enough for leftovers tonight. We knew we had a long day and night full of meetings would have been easy to just grab something in a drive thru.
I saved by using money I had in my paypal account from selling some clothes to thredup to sign up for a 10k Halloween race!
I saved by splitting a lunch with a friend.
I saved today by shopping for my groceries at Aldi and a local discount grocery shop. I even picked up a 32 oz bottle of Mrs. Meyers cleaning solution marked down to $3.99 ;). Exciting bc I’ve wanted to try her products for awhile!
How I saved today: I forget that my at-home workouts save money. But all I need for me to work out at home is a Rebounder for running and a yoga mat and Dvd to do my ballet (Ballet Beautiful).
Instead of buying baby carrots, I took the time to cut them up! We forgot to bring our movies on a road trip over the weekend and instead of stopping to buy a movie, we found a Red Box since we can return them anywhere!
We cooked a family dinner at home tonight
I carpooled to work with a non-Christian co-worker that I hope to share with over the next few days, God willing! Isn’t it awesome how God works through our efforts to save money =)
I saved today by blessing others! I brought too much food to bible study so when it wasn’t all eaten I was able to take it home and feed it to the kids with dinner. Use what you have!
I really wanted an iced coffee today since it was unseasonably warm but instead I reminded myself that I want to build up savings again for holidays and I drank another glass of water. Not exciting but the little sacrifices add up to big savings!
I saved by making my own coffee instead of going out, knitting my daughter a birthday present instead of buying one, making our own dinner from scratch, going to a free bible study with free child care…
I saved by waiting to order winter boots until I could get a sale on top of a sale.
I saved by going to the farm for our csa share and getting a bunch of veggies for free because they were about to go bad. We’ll use them in fresh juice and smoothies for breakfast this week.
I saved money by going out to my garden and getting the last of the tomatoes and made juice to add to the soup that I am canning tomorrow.
Leftovers for dinner
I saved money by trading with a friend! I have a good friend who owns an organic farm and is busy with a baby. We both love trying new recipes! We’ve started a really fun weekly swap where I bring treats that I make each week…such as mint simple syrup to stir into hot cocoa and samples of a test batch of a new cookie recipe…and she brings organic produce that goes with whatever new recipes we’ve been talking about wanting to make!
We stayed home today… Going no where helps save:)
This was a funny thing for us. My husband’s job had a potluck and he was asked to clean up the area. Most folks told him to throw away their leftovers. We live in a camper and he drives it to work, so he came out and got tupperware containers to store food in and we got 12 meals from the almost thrown away stuff, chili, goulash, Choc. Cake, beans and hot dogs. This is something frugal me would do, not hubs. I was so surprised. Will have to think of something special to do for him.
A I recently bought a used double jogging stroller off of a local buy/sell/trade site for $60 (it was about $200 new!) It is in great condition & saves me the money of a gym membership! Just bundle up my 1 & 2 year olds, put the leash on the dog, and go!
I cooked 2 lbs of black beans to freeze instead of buying canned.
I saved today by packing my lunch for work instead of going out to eat. I also shopped at ALDI vs Byerlys grocery store.
I always bring my lunch to work. And today I made 2 bottles of homemade all purpose cleaners instead of buying!
I saved today by eating from the pantry and fridge. I have done this a few times over the last couple of months. I feel like I have “nothing to eat” for dinner in our house, but when I really stop and look and think it through, I realize that I can cobble a good dinner together. Tonight it was chicken noodle soup, garlic bread, left over “french fried” green beans, and my youngest scrambled herself an egg. She was begging for pizza and I was thinking of giving in, so this was a definite money saver.
I wanted to go on a date with my husband to Starbucks, but I made homemade hot chocolate and we had a date at home instead. It was great! 🙂
Dug through the freezer and found food I already had instead of just buying on impulse.
Today I needed a giant box to store a pack n play. Instead of purchasing my Starbucks saved me one from their order!
I saved today by staying home! It might sound like a no-brainer, but by staying home I save on gas, food, and by not spending money in stores. I have definitely found that the more I stay home, the more I save.
I saved by eating from the freezer. I found three half-full bags of broccoli, and I made a big pot of broccoli-cheese soup.
I evaluated my cell phone plan. I was using Straight Talk which is a good deal ($45/month unlimited talk/text/data).
I realized I don’t use my cell phone that much. I found out that I can use Trac Fone for a lot cheaper! I can get a plan for $99.99 a year and just add minutes as needed (still cheaper for me).
It’s good to evaluate how you are using things!
I bought jeans at Goodwill today instead of paying for new!
I saved money today by packing my lunch from home instead of eating out.
I saved today by buying some gift cards on Raise.com
You can purchase gift cards from any number of stores at 10-20% off! You can even set alerts for the stores you love to shop at most!
I saved today by shopping at the Asian market. Tofu and sesame oil are so much cheaper there!
We used a Lowe’s gift card to replace our broken broom instead of paying cash when I was at Target the other day.
I pack a lunch for myself and my girls on our co-op day today. I always do this and it may seem like nothing, but when we used to go out to lunch with friends, I always cringed at how much the bill was for just the three of us. I can’t and don’t want to really afford this, especially every week. When I pack our lunch, not only do I save money, but I can better control what my children and I are eating.
I saved today by eating breakfast, lunch and dinner at home!!
I saved by signing up for a notification of when a new restaurant was opening in my area. They sent me an invite for 2 free entrees and drinks before they were open to the public. Free lunch for me and the hubby!
While my daughter has soccer practice at the park, I will go to the library and then go for a jog on our lovely trail. I love our park!!!!
I used snap ap for purchases. I also made homemade foaming hand soap. Then, I worked out in my private gym also. 🙂
I saved by recently ordering less expensive essential oils from non-MLM companies. Got my third order in today. 🙂 And, guess what? The VASTLY less expensive oils are working MUCH better than the ‘Cadillac’ brand of oils. 🙂 🙂 🙂
I saved by taking my clothes to consignment. And by drinking water with lunch.
We made pierogies at home with ingredients we had on hand!
I saved today by making my first ever batch of homemade laundry detergent- and then using it!
Went home and had my morning coffee even though I was highly tempted to stop for a cup after taking the kids to school.
I saved today by making homemade cornbread mix with ingredients that I already had on hand. Yesterday I saved by making homemade taco seasoning with ingredients that I already had on hand (and it’s healthier, too!) and by making homemade blackberry muffins with blackberries from our bushes. We also save money daily by not putting all of our clothes in the dryer and by running some of our appliances after midnight (they are on timers) when our electric company offers electricity at half the price.
Despite being really hungry and already in the food court, I went back to my desk to get a can opener for my can of soup. (And resolved to buy only cans with pop-top lids, so I’m not tempted to buy lunch again.)
I saved today on my dry cleaning bill by paying in full when I dropped off – I got 10% off rather than paying at picking up and paying full price.
Something that my family has been working towards doing to save money is going paperless! As of right now, we use rags in the kitchen for just about everything. Going paperless means more laundry, so we made a fairly small investment in a manual washing machine and we are going to be getting some hanging drying racks to put in our kitchen to utilize the semi-south facing windows.
I nursed my little baby – so no bottles or formula needed today.
I ate leftovers for lunch!
I saved today by making homemade bread for my husband’s lunches.
I saved today by making dinner at home!
Today I saved money by making y own beef jerky at home.
I saved money today by using up my discounts before they expire from purchasing the Ultimate Healthy Living Bundle that I bought a while ago after learning about it on your site! I got a free Ora Wellness bottle with my bonus, which is my husband’s favorite “toothpaste” but is not inexpensive usually! Score! 🙂
Yay!
I saved today by making homemade banana chips instead of buying them.
I saved today by opening the windows to let in the cool fall air, I also picked up books at the library instead of purchasing (we love the library)!
I saved money today by not buying anything and not driving anywhere. 🙂
We saved by walking to preschool instead of driving!
We were so tempted to get take out tonight. It was 5:30 and there were no plans for dinner in sight. However, I remembered that we froze some soup a few weeks ago so dinner was on the table faster than we could have had it delivered!
saved today by going to get sushi during half-off happy hour!!
I used the SNAP app to save on baby wipes!
I saved today by taking my daughter to the library for story time and free books. During her nap I went on recycle bank and got a years subscription to people magazine(my guilty pleasure)for free with points I have accumulated.
I just shopped JC Penney online. I purchased $255.99 worth of items for $97.88 which includes shipping. All of the items were discounted and then I used a 20% off coupon code and a $10 rewards code. Such a deal!!!
I made my own dishwasher soap. Thanks, Crystal!
I brought my lunch to work today.
Rather than go to starbucks or other places for beverages, I purchase teabags or latte liquid and make my own every day at work or before work. I’m sure I save a ton over a year!
We are saving money (and time!) by eating leftovers for dinner. Easy, quick, and delicious!
I saved today by taking leftover pulled pork and tomatoes and potatoes from our garden for lunch instead of buying at the local lunch counter. My coworkers fries looked good, but my yukons were just as yummy!
I saved today by going to the Smith’s sale of buy 4 save $4. This allowed me not only to get goodies for trick or treaters, but I have 3 November birthdays, (all boys), and Christmas stocking stuffers tucked away now. These are great since there was no Halloween pic on the wrappers I thought these were perfect.
I saved today by using the rest of the loaf of bread I had at home to make toast to go with dinner instead of opening a new box of garlic bread. I can use that the next time when I don’t have any bread!
Toothpaste tubes that have the flip tops and are difficult to squeeze the last of the paste out are very troublesome. I have taken to cutting off tube about an inch up the tube from the hard cap. I leave this much of the tube so that I can press it closed again so that it doesn’t dry out between uses. When I want toothpaste to use I put my toothbrush directly into the large cap that I have cut off and dig out the paste that is remaining. I can’t squeeze it out, but I can certainly dig it out. There is a lot in there, enough for about 10 more brushings probably. That is quite a savings when added up through a year! And by keeping a length on the part I cut off it doesn’t dry out!
I saved today by hanging my laundry outside to dry. Love the fresh scent of nature on line dried clothes!!
Nice job getting your workout in! I have to say I enjoy going to the gym and socializing a bit;0)
I am saving today by cramming as much stuff in our house freezer and taking the rest to my parent’s freezer before I lose it all in an extra freezer that desperately needs defrosting. Ugh!
I saved money today by taking leftovers to work for lunch and not purchasing anything out of the vending machines.
Today I hemmed a pair of Adidas athletic pants I found at a garage sale for $1. They’re cute, fit perfectly, and now they’re the right length! The petite section of most stores is usually pretty small, with a limited amount of choices. As a short girl I’ve learned just enough sewing skills to shorten my pants.
I saved money today by not taking my kids out for dinner..my husband usually works late tuesday nights so I will typically take them out as a treat and so I don’t have to cook:). Trying to cut back in general until after christmas.
I saved by ordering a Thermos from Amazon (thru a link which might end up accumulating enough for Amazon to send me $ at the end of the month). I’ll use the Thermos to pack hot soup for my lunch when I’m out and about shopping in the middle of the day so I won’t have to spend $ for a quick bite at a fast food place.
The Thermos is advertised as keeping foods hot for 7 hrs, so with winter season ahead, I’m really looking forward to trying it out!
I saved by making 12 cups of brown rice for my freezer for quick meals.
Oh yeah, and it only took 50 minutes!
I saved today by grocery shopping at Aldi and Goodwill for pants for me.
I bought a package of bobbins (& used my 40% off in app coupon!) so I can hem my towels instead of buying new ones. Also, I combined my quick craft store run with another errand on that side of town.
I loaded my Safeway card with Just for You deals and used coupons for a grocery savings of 62%.
I saved money today by going to the library to get a book I’ve been wanting to read instead of buying it.
I saved money today by making my own foaming hand soap. Thanks to moneysavingmom.com for teaching me how. 🙂 So easy and sometimes I add a tiny bit of coconut oil (for moisturizing) or a drop of essential oil. Play around to see what you like!
You are so welcome!
I took down a chandelier out of our kitchen that we no longer needed and repurposed it to an outdoor hanging light fitted with solar lights and hung it under our gazebo!
I saved money today by making dinner in the crock-pot, using items I had on hand.
I saved today by working out at the school gym — membership is free for teachers!
I saved by setting a timer and checking my laundry in the dryer every 10 minutes to see if it’s dry enough instead of letting it just go the full cycle. Also, I recently put a mark on the laundry detergent cap for how much soap to use for a load, so I’m not using more than recommended!
I saved by having leftovers for lunch and exercising using on-line videos versus going to a gym.
Today, I saved money by having my husband pick up pizza on his way home from work (rather than me make an extra trip and use more gas $). We are watching our friends’ children for a bit and the oldest LOVES pizza 🙂
Instead of going to McDonald’s for lunch (because it just seemed all too convenient) I just came home and ate my leftovers.
I used the public library. I homeschool my kids and today I purchased some new curriculum. I only bought the books that I absolutely needed and went to the library to get the rest.
Saved money today by starting chicken this morning in the crockpot. For sides, we used up odds & ends of veggies/leftovers. No wasted food here!
Made a delicious dinner for a new momma using what we had in the house, rather than going to the store to buy stuff.
Eating out of the pantry, free redbox in my email, and free entertainment for my children by taking them to watch my students’ football game.
My coworker and I were going to buy our boss a card for boss’ day, but I decided to make one since I already have plenty of card making supplies at home.
I saved today by running early in the morning before my kids woke up. Only needed my running shoes (ok and sports bra and the rest of my outfit) and I got a great workout in and was ready to tackle the day!
Can I just say I LOVE that you are doing this series? It’s such a great reminder that saving money is an everyday choice that often comes in the small, overlooked ways. I’ve been so encouraged just by daily thinking about one thing I’ve done to save money!
So today, we had an “eat out of the pantry” today. I should have gone grocery shopping Saturday, but instead we decided to see if we could stretch it until tomorrow. We’ve been getting creative, and today it would have been much easier to just make a run to the grocery store or to Chick-fil-A. But instead we scrounged enough ingredients together to make a pasta salad and tuna sandwiches for dinner. Not glamorous, but not expensive either!
I saved by serving a variety of leftovers for dinner. I also worked out in the garage!
I saved by buying my son’s winter coat on swap.com- and they even gave me free shipping on my order. Got a NICE wool coat for $8.00
I saved today by taking my dog Maggie for a walk. Pretty much every day; no gym fees and we both get exercise, fresh air and vitamin D.
I saved money by making homemade biscuits instead of buying them.
I saved today by STAYING HOME. =)
Since it was a rainy day, I only used the hair dryer until my hair was half dry and skipped the flat iron. Every little bit helps 🙂
When grocery shopping I checked my receipt and noticed they charged me for an extra pasta sauce. I pointed it out to a manager and I quickly received a refund. I love Aldi 🙂
Today I saved by holding off (for over a year) on buying a smaller second crockpot until there was a hot Amazon deal today where I got one for $9.59! 🙂
I saved today by resisting the temptation to buy a latte while in town. I might make myself a decaf one after dinner though to indulge in with your Healthy Blueberry Crisp recipe. A homemade one will only cost me pennies vs. 3.50.
I saved today by baking a cake and 5 loaves of bread from scratch! 🙂
I saved money today by consolidating all my errands into one trip, since I live 7 miles from town.
I also saved money by making two pairs of pj pants for my sons with fabric and elastic I already had, using their old pj pants as a pattern (and adding a few inches!)
I saved today by serving leftovers to my family of five for dinner. We will waste less food that way. I usually cook from scratch everyday, so this is not a usual way of saving money for us.
I saved today by cutting all the mint in my garden and bringing in to dry. This winter I’ll be able to have mint green tea without the fancy tea prices (green tea bought in bulk)!
I saved by combining coupons and sales on my groceries. Overall, I paid half of what I should have.
I saved money today by making my own all-purpose cleaner.
I made a batch of biscuits using lard instead of butter to save on butter since it’s so expensive these days. And then later today I’m going to get some yoga DVDs online instead of buying them.
To save money today, I looked through my fridge and made a pot of chicken noodle soup. I had a few pieces of chicken that needed to be cooked and threw in all the veggies I could find. I’ll add some pasta at the end. It is still cooking, but my kids already said that it smells good and they can’t wait to eat it for dinner!
I saved money yesterday by making my own hanging jewelry rack with materials I already had.
I saved today by inviting a new friend over… which motivated me to finally clean my bathroom and kitchen.
I saved by baking up a storm for our freezer: several loaves of bread, english muffins, two types of tortillas. Plus a giant pot of black beans and a big batch of enchilada sauce from the green tomatoes left in our garden.
I saved today by submitting a doctor’s office co-pay to my Health Savings Account for reimbursement. The HSA has allowed me to reduce the amoun of my taxable income each year!
I saved today by buying a large bag of cinnamon and then filling smaller jars I had at home already with a funnel. Our local bulk food store is a great place for low price and high quality spices!
Instead o grabbing a quick dinner on a busy night, I planned ahead. I pulled chili out of the freezer and put in the crockpot.
I made Starbucks quality hot chocolate for my 3 kiddos and myself in the vitamix with just whole milk, cocoa powder, coconut oil, vanilla, espresso and a little vanilla 🙂 we felt spoiled and did my pocket book!
This sounds SO yummy! Did you put any sweetener in it?
I saved today by checking the Target Cartwheel app before we went shopping – lots of good deals on there!!
We save so much when we go out by always packing a sack lunch for myself and the kiddos (so we aren’t tempted to get fast food or snacks) and a homemade iced coffee (that way I’m not tempted by the millions of yummy looking coffee beverages while we are out and about)
I saved today by having our family eat leftovers for dinner tonight!
I saved today by looking at science projects on the Internet that only require things we already have. My 8 year old and 4 year old have already made a volcano outside and We r working together on our next project.
Hmmm…I saved by still using my old cell phone instead of upgrading to the smartphone I’d really like to have, but don’t want to pay the extra $ each month for and don’t feel like I can justify at this point! 🙂
And we combined a couple of appointments into one trip out of the house to save a tiny bit on gas and time.
That’s all I’m coming up with right now!
I made a large pot of turkey chili last night so we would have leftovers for dinner tonight.
I saved today by using up fruit that was going bad and pre making food with it, and freezing it for later, instead of throwing the bad fruit away…
Saved today by beginning the potty training process with my 2 yr. old. Hoping that diapers are no longer an item in the budget!
I saved today by packing lunches for our homeschool co-op. My four year old refuses to eat the ends of a loaf of bread, so I made his sandwich inside-out so he didn’t notice. 😉 I refilled our water bottles instead of packing juice boxes or other drinks that would need to be purchased.
I made homemade diaper wipes! You cut a double roll of select-a-size paper towels in half with a bread knife, boil 2 cups of water, add 1 tbsp baby shampoo & 2 tbsp coconut (or any gentle) oil, pour over the paper towels (cut side down in a Tupperware container with a lid), turn upside down for five minutes to absorb, then pull out the cardboard tube and use wipes from center. They work better than store bought wipes for almost free!
Saved today by sending leftovers with my husband and two kids for lunches!
I went to the Salvation Army instead of a big box store to pick up what I needed for my DIY Halloween costume! 🙂
I have been helping with a local community food bank and their garden. If we show up to harvest, we get first pick of the harvest. I saved today by helping others and getting a nice bunch of kale and okra for free!
I had a friend cut my hair today (she has her hair license, & is a fellow sahm) which cost a lot less! than a salon, I brought the kids to play with her daughter, and I got to enjoy some adult interaction!
I made an iced mocha at home instead of stopping by Starbucks.
This may seem insignificant, but a friend & I were scheduled to meet for coffee this morning. In lieu of meeting at Starbucks, I texted her this morning to see if she wanted to come over here in stead as I have plenty of coffee & creamer already on hand. My friend was game, so not only could I save some money, but my friend was able to save a few dollars too. (: And…we still had a lovely chat over coffee! (:
Today I used what little leftover chili we had and made Chili Mac for lunch. Kids first experience with it. They loved it! And I loved that we got 3 meals out of this one pot of chili!
I saved by buying apples at a nearby orchard and making my own apple butter.
I saved money by taking my lunch from home and saving the money that I would have spent by eating out. It took me 10 minutes extra to pack my lunch but so worth it.
Instead of going out to eat and buying a birthday cake I asked my daughter what she would like me to make for dinner and baked dessert myself. Grocery store bday cakes are gross anyways! Nothing beats homemade. Right? Dinner out for 7 is big bucks.
I bought a used bicycle trailer instead of a new one!
I saved yesterday too by working out at home, which I do most days and love! Easy to actually do with a little one!
Instead of stopping by Jamba Juice for lunch I blended up a delicious smoothie this morning and packed it to go in a thermal mug.
I saved by going to the library to borrow a movie instead of redbox.
One of the best thrift stores in my area is far enough away that I can rarely get there. But, today I had to go to a medical appointment where I would drive right by it. I saved gas by combining the errands and scored a shopping bag full of legos for $5!
I hung laundry outside today, a lovely wind here in NW Pennsylvania and 75 degrees! 🙂
I had to buy some stuff online, and I used my bank’s cashback site.
I had lunch at home using croissants from the bakery that were on reduced sale. I froze them last week and remembered I could use them for my sandwich today. Did not spend a dime on lunch today. Yay, me!!
I bought a pair of denim shorts at Kohl’s for a total of $1.37! I try to buy ahead during the off season so I am not paying anywhere near full price for clothes. In this case, I used a $10 off Rock & Republic coupon I got in the mail and was able to use it on a pair of really nice denim shorts that were already on clearance. (The original price of the shorts was $50 so that’s a savings of about 97%!!)
I saved money today by picking up old, untreated fencing for firewood, from a craigslist ad. Similar wood is selling for $10 per wheelbarrow, and I probably picked up three or four wheelbarrow loads. My three year old had a blast helping me load it up.
I saved today by eating apples and nuts in the car while I was doing errands, instead of stopping and buying fast food!
I saved money by using my zulily credit and got my daughter some cute wonder woman pj’s for free!! Gotta love when it comes out to free!!

I saved $ by setting out buckets when it rained and then used the water to water my plants the next couple of days. 🙂 Small but still!
Yesterday I did a big grocery shopping and today our refrigerator stopped working!
Thankfully yesterday and today the temperature outside was right around 40 degrees- so I emptied out the ice from the freezer, filled all of our coolers with that ice and the food from the refrigerator, and set the coolers outside. The food from the freezer all, thankfully, fit into our chest freezer in the basement.
Then my wonderful, handy husband did some diagnosing and some searching online and figured out what the problem was. He ordered a replacement part which will be here tomorrow and then will fix the problem without having to call a repairman.
So, we saved money by not losing any food to spoilage and my husband fixing the problem for the price of the part without having to pay hundreds of dollars to have someone else fix it!
I was thinking about your sweater repair while I sewed up the ripped strap on my library bag! Double savings, because, of course, I can go to the library now!
I packed my dinner for work tonight so I won’t be tempted to eat out!
Saved today by packing my lunch and snacks for work!
I just received the bill from the hospital for having my baby, and it was around $2000 after insurance. I called and politely asked for a discount, and they took off $600 right there! So glad I called.
i saved money today by using dead bananas for muffins instead of throwing them away. Double batch of yum!
I cashed in points thru My Points for gift cards to give out at Christmas.
I quickly threw together a lunch for my family to take to our homeschool co-op even though we were running late, and I REALLY wanted to just pick up lunch close by.
I saved by planning my menu around what I already have in my kitchen!
I pulled something out of the freezer this morning to thaw so I can eat it for dinner instead of going out to eat.
I saved today by packing lunches for my sweet kiddos!
I would like to have a laptop but haven’t saved enough yet. So I used my old dinosaur of a computer (loaned us for free), for yet another day.
I saved today by carpooling with a friend to school 🙂
I saved money (yesterday) by painting the inside of our house instead of having the contractors do it. It would have cost $75 an hour for them to paint and I finished our dining/kitchen in about 2 hours tops! Saved myself $150 in just two hours.
I saved today by making apple chips and oven roasted applesauce to can using a free dehydrator and free apples!
I saved money today by using what I had to decorate my sons wagon for his homecoming parade. And the wagon was borrowed too!
I dried clothes on the clothesline, packed lunches for my husband and kids, and stayed home!
I saved money today by using what I had to decorate my sins wagon for his homecoming parade. And the wagon was borrowed too!
We saved money today by making our own pumpkin puree from our garden pumpkins! We cut them up, put them in the oven til soft and scooped out the fleshy part. I scooped fleshy part directly into the blender, then my helpful 3 year old daughter pushed the blend button! We the poured the puree into various reused, washed plastic containers! Tastes sooo good!
I woke up early and made my hubby breakfast and lunch so he didn’t have to buy food today.
I saved by going to great clips during their customer appreciation special and getting g a hair cut-3.99!
I saved money by canning tomato soup for out pantry. We eat it all year long and use it in recipes.
Today I’m saving money by going over my budget, and gathering a few items that were bought and now are not needed. Will return them for a refund when I am in the area so I can save on gas too.
I saved money by packing a lunch for work. I also rode my bicycle to work today so I saved on gas/gym membership.
We are weather stripping all our doors and windows today. Painting old furniture to use in the nursery and eating leftovers from my baby shower for lunch.
I saved today by bringing in my frozen breakfast sandwich instead of buying from Jack in the Box or Chick-fil-A.
I saved today by turning in my receipts for reimbursement for a trip earlier this month. I am also switching my children to another preschool for a problem that is not being addressed at their current preschool. I am lucking out that it happens to be cheaper and looks like a great, new preschool.
We saved by eating leftovers for lunch and we made money by signing up for a program that has someone come to our house and see what we have in our fridge/freezer/pantry for a study 🙂
I saved today by running home to eat lunch (5 mins away from work) instead of going out to eat.
We shop the sales always and just recently started working out with a video that we have. Saves gym membership and we are all together!
My sister and I spent the day canning applesauce so that we don’t have to buy it from stores. We know what goes into it, it tastes better, and it saves money!
I saved today by using grocery bags instead of trash bags in all of our trash cans. We have a small trash can in each room and haven’t bought trash bags of any kind in over 10 years!
We saved money by buying our snacks at Aldi today for our upcoming trip instead of purchasing from overpriced convenience stores while we are on the road.
I saved money today by making my own laundry detergent.

I bought a bottle of prenatal vitamins already on sale, used a $3 off manufacturer & a $3 off store coupon. Yippee!
We save today by eating freezer cooked meals!
Thanks for always inspiring me to find creative ways to save money! Today my family saved money by using Google Calender to set reminders of when to cancel magazine subscriptions. We received a free year to a certain magazine, but would be automatically charged if we didn’t manually cancel the subscription on their website. Using a free calender with email reminders made remembering to cancel easy! We’ve used this method with Cable TV offers, internet offers, and many other “manual cancel” offers.
I had Progresso soup for lunch, which I bought on sale with coupons for about 75 cents.
I saved by making a big batch of 6 pie crusts for the freezer, for about $2 total, which is about what I would have spent on one store bought pie crust. 🙂
Today we saved by eating from the pantry, walking to the store rather than driving, and my son made a birthday card for his friend instead of purchasing one.
Thanks so much for the awesome giveaway!
I saved today by baking a pumpkin to make pumpkin puree instead of buying canned and my children had a blast building towers and playing shoe store with old shoe boxes. So much fun!
I saved money today by using my $10 Eddie Bauer “Friends” reward to buy a striped sweater that had been marked down to $9.99!
I saved money by making muffins for a friend instead of going out to buy something to serve.
I’m freezing about 8 cups of carrots grown in our own garden. It’s the last of them, but I’ve got a pretty good stash already in our freezer.
I saved money by looking up a coupon on my phone for something I was already going to buy.
I brought my own snack rather going to the vending machine.
I saved money today by serving overnight oatmeal for breakfast– I buy steel cut oat in bulk through Azure Standard, and cook them overnight in my crockpot: one cup oats to 3 cups water with a dash of salt in pyrex glass dish, placed into crockpot filled 1/2 way with water, set on low.
We went to the library and checked-out books and dvd’s. There are several movies/books I want to read/watch right now, but I know I am saving a lot of $ by being patient until it becomes available at the library.
i saved money today by eating at home (made pasta that would stretch lunch and dinner for a few days)
… earning swagbucks to fill my daily meter to continue preparation for my Christmas budget
… using Viggle to save up points to order a toaster oven… it may take a few months, but it will be free!
I am so tired and on our way home from our homeschool group, I desperately wanted to stop and buy a cup of coffee. I resisted the urge even though I had the money for it and am now sitting down to a cup of coffee I brewed for myself at home!
I saved money by not going grocery shopping this week! It’s a eat out of the pantry/freezer week for us!
I saved by making homemade tomato soup for lunches for the week.
I saved money this morning by walking to work, instead of driving or taking the bus. I also made coffee at home and packed my lunch. No added food cost’s for me today.
I cleaned and ironed my husband’s work shirts instead of sending them to dry cleaning!
I saved by using cash earned from Pinecone Research- which I learned about from this blog!- to buy maternity clothes on clearance from Old Navy. My clothes lasted me through two pregnancies, but now they’re looking faded and worn. I’m hoping to buy what I need and spend very little out of pocket by finding creative ways to come up with cash.
I invited a friend over for lunch instead of meeting her and eating out.
I saved money by making two loaves of homemade sandwich bread, and using the fall decorations we had last year to decorate our house for fall.
Thanks – and love reading how everyone else saves,
Lea
I saved money today by eating breakfast at home and packing my lunch for work.
I used my Kroger card to fill up my gas tank since I was almost empty and the price of gas had dropped (saved .10 per gallon). After I filled up my tank, I grabbed the nozzle and gas sprayed all over my car (wasting money). I was going to go through the car wash to wash off the gas but then decided I didn’t want to spend any more money. My kids and I washed the car at home with the hose and some old sponges and took advantage of the 75 degree weather. I don’t feel bad about wasting money on gas, the car is clean, and the kids were happy…
We had a coffee date at home rather than going to the pricey shoppe.
I saved money by making homemade bread so we could eat from the pantry for lunch. I also ran to our local (over-priced) grocery store last night because they mark down meat on Mondays and I hadn’t gone grocery shopping yet. I was able to pick up “reduced for quick sale” 80%/20% ground beef for $2.59/lb.!!! That’s $1.30/lb. cheaper than Aldi! I was able to get 8.5 lbs!!! That was a gift from God, as our $100/week grocery budget for our family of 9 has seemed to not be cutting it lately. Thanks be to God for His abundant provision!
I saved money today by checking my coupons against the sale item at the store. I saved big!
I brought leftover pizza for lunch 🙂
We saved today by bringing lunch from home to work. We also try to make our other meals each day and make fresh muffins and quiche for the week.
I saved money by bringing my lunch to work today
I save money today by not using my car: I just walked my kids to school this morning, and will walk again to pick them up. And just stay at home and stay away from the stores make me not spending my money!
Ironically, I used my gym membership, and they served members a free lunch!
Thanks to your post on bartering, I set up a great trade with my crossfit gym. I am going to tutor the owner’s kids in exchange for my expensive membership! I love crossfit and this makes it do-able with my budget!
I LOVE this!
I packed a lunch for work today instead of going out, to save money!
I decided NOT to stop at Starbucks today, and to instead make my coffee at home.
I saved money today by drinking water and being content with all I have!
I brought my own lunch today instead of eating out.
Baked homemade bread. Delicious, and way cheaper than buying bread at the one grocery store in our rural area.
I saved today by planning ahead for our day of doctors appointments out of town. Instead of eating out, I packed sliced veggies, cheese sticks, pretzels, almonds and fruit to snack on until we made it home. By the way, I love the “How I saved today” series. I have been blessed by some of the ideas I have read.
I bring lunch to work every day, and today my salad includes lettuce, carrots and soybeans from the garden. While fall-sown lettuce doesn’t grow as rambunctiously as spring lettuce, a $3 market pack (usually 9 plants) will eventually provide daily salad for me for a month – and lettuce is one of the easiest crops to grow.
It was not today but last week I called my cable/internet provider intending to cut cable and reduce my monthly bill. Instead I ended up with the same exact package/equipment that I currently have but got my monthly bill reduced by more then $20. Needless to say I ended up very pleased.
On a daily basis I try to pack my lunch for work to reduce spending.
I really wanted to go out for lunch and treat myself and kids. Instead we stayed home. We eat out too much as it is.
I saved today by thrifting for items we needed or wanted for our kids. 3 pairs of jeans, shirt, hat, 2 dresses, raincoat and a pair of pants all for $14.19. Half the items were high end brands and some were brand new. I used $15 worth of coupons the kids had earned from the library summer reading program to bring the total down to that amount.
I saved today by making homemade soup and pumpkin muffins. Thanks!
I saved today by working from home. I did not pay commuting costs and did not pay for take out breakfast, lunch and coffee.
I saved today by hanging the clothes outside to dry instead of the dryer.
I saved money today by borrowing movies from the library for the kids to watch this weekend rather than renting.
I saved money today by cooking from food in the freezer and panty. We decided this month to only buy a few fresh fruits/veggies and milk – everything else we eat has to come from the freezer, pantry or garden.
I saved money today by making my own chicken stock.
I saved by combining trips to save gas.
My husband and I have saved the most money by buying a fifth wheel and moving it onto my in-laws property while we are working towards paying off our debt. It has been challanging at times, but also such a blessing! We are two months away from screaming “We’re debt freeeeeeee!!!”
We eat a ton! of hummus. So today my little one and I are making a big batch of homemade!
I made homemade yogurt.
Worked out at home too!
I saved by earning swagbucks and taking surveys and cashing in for amazon gift cards. I order Christmas presents with them. My goal is to not spend any cash this year for Christmas presents. I actually got a big box yesterday from amazon!
I used my garden chives in a quiche. They are still going strong!
We saved today by playing outside in the yard at home instead of driving to the park.
I saved by packing lunches for my family and cooking more at home.
I saved today by brewing my coffee at home instead of running out to the coffee shop. We have a Keurig, but instead of using the disposable K-cups, I use the refillable K-cup brewer/filter and fill it up with ground coffee (that I purchased in bulk at a lower cost).
Brought my lunch from home to work, and made hot chocolate at home afterwards instead of a Dunkin Donut trip!
I saved by deciding not to make an unneeded purchase even though I had a great coupon.
I saved today by eating leftovers for lunch.
We are on vacation and they asked to show our room to potential buyers this week…we said no because I didn’t feel like cleaning up our place while on vacation. They called back the next day and offered us $100 (WOW!!!) to show the place….how could we turn that down?!? We saved all year to go on this vacation with our kids and having an extra $100 to spend is a blessing!! So that’s how we saved money!!
Brought breakfast and lunch to work today, and dinner is homemade using ingredients we’ve stocked up on, so a no-spend day!
I saved money today by making my daughter a hair bow. She is really into the big cheer bows so I bought a whole bunch of large ribbon at Hobby Lobby when it was 50% off made her and her friends a whole bunch of bows. I even made them for both of my daughters soccer teams. I made a total of about 30 bows and spent about $12. They are super cute and easy to make and everyone thinks I bought them. I just looked it up on pinterest
I saved this week by coming up with meals from the food we already had in the pantry and the freezer. We had several unexpected expences this month and so we trimmed out grocery budget way back. I realised that I could give us a boost in the right direction and help us stay on budget by using what we already had this week. I get tips like this from reading your blog. Thank you.
I made a batch of no-bake chocolate oatmeal bars (which I think I discovered on this site). It’s a healthy and tasty alternative to whatever packaged snack I could have bought, and the husband and kids love them.
I saved today by making chicken stock, and homemade ice cream!
Made homemade chicken broth with a whole chicken & am using some of the broth & meat for dinner tonight. Yummy! Thanks for the fun giveaway. 🙂
Made my coffee drink at home!
Took the bus to work instead of driving my car
I saved today by making my own almond flour (grinding raw almonds in the NutriBullet) instead of buying it.
I saved money today by brewing my own coffee instead of going to a coffee shop.
I saved by buying my teenage son pants from an on-line yard sale — they were brand new, Lands End and only $4/pair. Then, I listed a few items and made a few $$. Wish I could work out at home but, alas, my exercise of choice is swimming.
I made some old bananas into banana muffins for the freezer!
Canned my own applesauce.
I saved today by getting free Colgate toothpaste at Dollar Tree with a $1 printable coupon from Coupons.com.
Today I saved by both my husband and I eating leftovers from dinner last night rather than eating out for lunch
Made a homegrown meal, pork roast with carrots & potatoes. We grow our own meat and the veggies came from our garden.
brought my soda to work instead of buying one out of the machine.
I refered a friend to my dentist and got a $5 Starbucks gift card as a thank you! Used it this morning for a coffee!
I took my lunch to work. 🙂
I brought my lunch to work and it is a wrap that I made and froze ahead of time so that left over meat would not go to wast.
Had an errand today that took me right by Starbucks (love their decaf caramel mochas!) but I made my own decaf at home to bring with me so I wouldn’t be tempted 🙂
I started making my own foaming hand soap. I’ve saved so much money doing this. We have five kids, and I homeschool so we’re always home. I was shocked at how doing this little thing saves so much. Thank you for the giveaway!
I brought my lunch to work
I made a huge pot of stew and brought some for lunch. Then later today I will put it in smaller containers and freeze them in the freezer for meals throughout the next few months.
I, too, work out at home. I also made my own hand sanitizer today. 🙂
I saved today by looking in the discounted cheese section at the grocery store– balls of fresh mozzarella with a ‘sell by’ date of today were only $.99!
I used the Snap rebates and coupons for the baby wipes. I spent 12.98 for 8 packs of wipes, used the 16.00 rebates from Snap and MADE money for the first time in my life!!!
I saved today by working out in my basement.
I saved money today by eating the lunch I packed instead of getting takeout!
Buying my daughter some new to us clothes at the local consignment store instead of brand new.
Maybe this doesn’t count since I didn’t have to put forth any effort but I saved today by enjoying free Chick-fila for military dinner for our family our four tonight. Thank you Chick-fila for your incredible generosity and your commitment to honoring God in your business.
I made my own cleaner to clean my suede boots, mixture of white vinegar and water, just clean with soft brush, and let dry.
My kids want me to tell you how they saved money for our family today by milking our goats. We drink the milk and make cheese with it. They often save money on goat feed by collecting tree trimmings (from the neighbors) and old bread (from a local food ministry).
Planned out my lunches for the week so no to go!
I started a book exchange in my neighborhood once a month. Eventually we started exchanging toys as well. All were new to our kids, but they were not costing us anything. It’s a great time to meet other ladies who live close to you. We are considering adding clothing next year. Great savings!!
Brought breakfast/lunch to work and read this blog and clipped coupons. And hopefully will win this set!
I had to go buy milk and one more thing. I went to Kroger and usually look around to find “deals”. I was so excited to resist anything else and only got the two things I was after!
Made homemade healthy baby food! 🙂 huge savings!
We had a leftover buffet for dinner. Everyone had something different, but we got rid of a number of partial servings of leftovers.
I saved by filling my water reusable water bottle up instead of buying bottled water.
I made a left-over soup using up veggies, beans, and sausage that I had left over in my fridge/pantry. It served us lunch 3 times and cost pennies to make, using items that would have otherwise gone to waste!
I saved today by recreating a meal from leftovers. We had fajitas from left over steak.
I saved today by hanging up my laundry instead of using the dryer and I turned on Swagbucks mobile and let it run.
I saved by staying home all day and spending nothing! I also poured my mineral makeup samples into a container so I can use that before buying more. The little packages from everyday minerals actually hold quite a bit!
I’ve saved by buying a 25 lb. bag of carrots and canning them. I save every time I do laundry….I don’t even own a dryer and I have a front loader which uses less water and soap.
I saved money today but being creative with my kiddos!!! It’s a rainy yucky day and they are bored! Instead of going out to lunch or spending money on some type of entertainment, I printed off halloween printables, looked up projects on pintrest, and we are using what we already have to make our house FUN and decorative for upcoming HARVEST TIME! 🙂
I saved today by bringing my lunch to work instead of eating out.
I turned on Swagbucks mobile and let it go….question, can you do the same with the SwagTV, or do you have to click thru each time?
Instead of buying something for lunch, I brought lunch from home. What’s more is I also sat at my desk (with an “out to lunch” sign on my window 🙂 ) and made a menu plan for the week and a shopping list. It was actually quite relaxing because I didn’t have to fight with the lunch time crowds! I saved money and my sanity!!
I saved money today by making homemade granola bars. My kids love them and they are so much healthier than the store bought. Its so easy to make with oats, goji berries, chia seeds, almond butter and maple syrup. We also made coffee at home and added a small spoonful of rasberry sorbet to the coffee and it sure made it taste decadent! 🙂
Lined my bathroom wastebaskets with the free grocery store grocery bags. No need to buy them when Walmart places your groceries in them and doesn’t give you a credit for bringing in your own 😉
All of us ate a home-made lunch: hubby, myself, and school-aged kiddo, which included apples we picked over the weekend
I saved by packing a lunch for my hubby and I (I spent the day at college with him getting a peak into his world there).
I made large batches of Mexican seasoning mix and dry ranch dressing mix. I once made homemade in a pinch and have never looked back. Homemade is much better and not nearly as salty as store bought. It really only takes a minute or two to make a big batch of each. Funny, though, it seems much more time consuming when I have to make it for something I am in the process of cooking. So, I try to keep it on hand.
I saved money by making myself coffee at home and bringing it out with me, instead of stopping for that latte.
We saved by being creative with our leftovers. Niether of us really wanted to eat the leftovers we had but we realized if we had all the ingredients to make nachos (not exactly traditional ones but they turned out really well!) felt like a whole new meal even though it was all leftovers!
I made homemade apple sauce with some extra slightly bruised apples we had hanging around.
I saved today by making all our lunches at home, hanging up my laundry instead of using the dryer, and also by drying our own apples instead of buying them already dried
I saved by continuing to cook at home & taking the kids to the library instead of ordering them some new fall books!
My husband and I took a 10 pound bag of potatoes that I bought for 98 cents (by price matching earlier in the week) and turned it into 18 pints of canned potatoes that we can use in soups throughout the fall. No more last minute trips to the grocery store for potatoes (and certainly cheaper than buying commercially canned potatoes).
I saved today by bringing my lunch to work. Thanks
I saved today by ironing my pants, uniforms and my childrens clothes for the week. Wheeeww☆☆☆☆
Made a conscience decision to delay going to the grocery store. I didn’t leave the house so I saved on gas and whatever I didn’t purchase today, because we would probably be going on another milk (and whatever else) run on Wednesday.
Tagged along with someone who has a Costco card!
I saved today buying diapers at Target. I used the target cartwheel offer for 10% off up & up along with the coupon for $10 off of $40 up & up PLUS a $10 gift card with purchase – basically got one box of diapers for FREE! I love saving on diapers.
I did laundry in cold water
Last night my children had karate. I did not feel like eating or serving leftovers again. I was also battling a case of the “blues” and feeling like a horrible mother, wife, person, etc. In addition to that, the owner of our local pizza place was at karate watching his children and talking about pizza. However, I went home and remade our leftovers. We dined on homemade mac and cheese with a fresh cheese sauce, stuffed patty pan squash, and brownies made by our four year old. In addition to that, I let both children help out in the kitchen which made for a very fun time.
We brought in a typing desk that had been in the garage since 2009, cleaned off the top, put colorful contact paper on the shelf and now our daughter has an “almost new” sewing table for her new sewing machine that she got for her 12th birthday. She then wanted to finish covering the sides with contact paper and it looks so nice. She plans on making her own skirts to wear to school (Crystal I also gave her a copy of Modern Prairie Sewing, wonderful book)
I got a free coffee at Racetrac when I got gas. I will stop all week when I’m out. They are having free hot iced and tea until the 18th. I love free!!!!!!
I saved today by reading a book from the library (instead of buying one). I also am planning on using deer meat in the spaghetti tonight. A friend of ours gave us a few pounds of deer meat. Free meat is always a plus for me!
I made a big batch of applesauce using the rest of the apples we picked at the apple orchard a couple of weeks ago. Some of them were starting to get a little soft and not so good for eating anymore, but for applesauce it didn’t matter!
I saved by not buying Dunkin Donuts every morning before work. I set the time on my coffee maker and make myself and my hubby a cup of coffee before work – $4/day savings!! woohoo!
I saved by bringing a homemade meal over to my sick grandma, rather than running out and buying something!
Our family minivan was in desperate need of a good cleaning. Instead of going to a carwash/carpool – my 5 year old and I cleaned out the entire inside of our minivan while waiting in the “carpool line” at his pre-school. We turned on some fun music, rolled the windows down, and sang and laughed while picking up trash and crumbs from the floor, wiping the windows and dash with baby wipes, and tucking books/toys back in the seat storage pockets. We had a great time together – and when we finished, he said that was the most fun he’d ever had waiting in line! 🙂
It dawned on me I was going through Ziploc bags way too quick – average 10 per day and 50 per week. I used them for kids school snacks, lunches, etc. Finally realized how to put to use my giant collection of small Tupperware storage containers. Huge $ savings for me. 🙂
I exercise at home too! I like to watch Denise Austin videos on YouTube.
I took advantage of a free intro class at a local children’s gym. My toddler loved it and it didn’t cost us anything. Afterward we went around collecting some of my birthday freebies(free coffee and food-yay!). It was a great afternoon.
Instead of calling a professional carpet cleaner when my son poured a jar of paint on the carpet I googled ways to get it out.
I really wanted to go out to get coffee today but i stayed in and made my own.
I save money by using grocery apps like iBotta, Receipt Hog, etc. I also take surveys at Kroger for 50 fuel points every 7 days, and then at the end of the month, we fill up both vehicles with our savings at the fuel pump!
My husband put a new back piece on a broken paper sorter/organizer that sits on my desk – he used a scrap. Saved from buying a new one or him making an all-new one from new wood.
I saved money today by coloring and cutting my own hair as well as my 2 sons. My husband also cuts his own hair (he shaves his head). This saves us an enormous amount of money every year which enables me to stay home and homeschool my 2 boys who are currently in the 9th and 11th grades.
We recently moved, and instead of buying boxes, we asked for empty boxes from a liquor store. Many of them have dividers, which was great for packing glasses!
It was Columbus Day and we often eat out for one meal when my hubby has the day off work. But instead I made up a recipe for chicken tenders for lunch, and it was a hit! Not only did it save restaurant money, it helped us use up some bbq sauce that was hanging out in the fridge. And it tasted amazing 🙂
I love your “gym”! Our exercise bike is in our living room, so you’re one step ahead of us 😉
I brought my lunch to work instead of going out.
I took the bus to work today and packed my lunch!
I walk, garden, mow lawn and shovel snow to get my free exercise.
I reuse my coffee Kcups…I just use the smallest cup setting to get 2 cups of coffee instead of one per Kcup. The second cup is not quite as strong, but I can hardly tell the difference after adding cream and this probably reduces my caffeine intake a little, too!
I used your Walgreens / Snap post today to go get some free Huggies wipes! So grateful for that post!
We managed to stay at home all day (a rare occurence) – no where to go means no money to spend! :o)
I cooked a giant pot of black beans to make into dinners/lunches and freezer burritos. In fact, I cooked waayyyy more than I needed too. 🙂 Oh well, I’d rather have too much than too little.
I was soo tired yesterday, but instead of buying dinner, I made hot dogs. What’s more, I knew I’d be tired this week, so they were already on the menu plan. 🙂
I was able to repair the DVD player on our computer!
In attempt to cut our grocery bill, I came up with a menu for the next week. I made a double batch of soup, one for tonight and one for the freezer, and I went through the coupon match-ups to prepare for my weekly grocery shopping for tomorrow. Every little bit helps, right?
I carpooled to get to work!
We drove through the night and saved on a hotel room! (Although, I’m not sure we’d save this way again…)
http://gypsyroadschool.blogspot.com
I clipped the coupons for the Target deals for the Tresemme and Playtex. The deal came at the perfect time, as I have been needing shampoo! This looks like another great giveaway! Thanks Crystal for all you do 🙂
I saved by gathering pears from off of my parents’ tree in their backyard. This afternoon will be filled with canning pear slices and pear sauce!
I made my own laundry detergent!
I didn’t prepare for dinner, but instead of ordering out was able to pull a meatloaf out of the freezer.
I saved today but returning a bunch of up & up stuff I recently bought to Target, since they just came out with new coupons that are 10% off (vs 5%), and also a $10 off $40 purchase!
Instead of going on an outing to the Apple orchard and pumpkin farm with my four year old and newborn my grandmother played with the newborn while my four year old and I went to kroger “just us”. We picked one pumpkin for four dollars and spent the rest of the afternoon carving and giggling at home. It saved us the gas money to get to the orchard, the effort and weariness of a trip with a newborn and gave my grandmother joy as well as my son and I.
I need to mail some bills today. Instead of driving to the post office, I’ll walk to a nearby grocery store and mail them there. This means saving gas, plus I’ll get some exercise on a beautiful autumn day!
Brought in breakfast, lunch, water and snacks to work today!
I saved today by stretching out my coffee creamer. Instead of adding creamer to my shopping list (which I usually do weekly), I mixed it half-and-half with milk and added a splash of vanilla. I’m drinking some right now and it’s still delicious.
I will be combining a trip to the Dr. appt with trips to the day old bread store, mark down store and Target for a few freebie deals. We live out in the boonies, so combining trips saves on gas.
I will be combining a trip to the Dr. appt with trips to the day old bread store, mark down store and Target for a few freebie deals. We live out in the bonnies, so combining trips saves on gas.
I called all my service providers and asked for lower rates – and most of them offered me something cheaper!
Last 5 years, the lot behind us has been vacant. Now that a house is going up, I needed a few curtains. I found fabric in the remnant section at the fabric store yesterday and made my sewed my own curtains. The fabric for my bathroom window was only $2.00 and the rod was in a box in our basement.
We had potato soup for dinner which i serve with grated cheddar cheese to go on top. I was out of cheddar, so instead of going to the store i used the grated mozzarella i had in the freezer. It’s not everyone’s favorite, but it was far better than going to the store for one thing!
I saved today by packing leftovers from our family’s Sunday lunch for my lunch today. This way, I am not letting the food go to waste, and I’m not spending money on eating out!
Homemade granola! So much cheaper than store bought and addictively yummy!
Took leftovers from the weekend for lunch at work.
SAVED MONEY FOR 7 DAYS BY COOKING OUT OF MY PANTRY ONLY INCLUDING THE WEEKEND WITH 2 OVERNIGHT TEENAGE GUESTS 🙂
It’s still early but I save money in the morning by making a homemade latte! I brew my coffee then put a cupfull, piping hot, in my blender with coconut oil, coconut milk, organic stevia and sometimes some cocoa powder or cinnamon. Free AND healthy latte 🙂
We saved by planning ahead and making a crockpot meal to eat at seven o’clock when we got home from gymnastics lessons! So tempting to want to grab something on the way home, but Saved us $20 planning ahead!
Made my daughter’s summer skirt and top outfit into a fall one with the addition of a simple cardigan that we already owned.
I had tea from home and took my dog for an hour-long walk this morning and enjoyed New England’s fall colors.
Working out at home saves me money & time. Our local library carries many of Leslie Sansone’s Walk at Home dvds. I love these workouts & can check out several for two weeks at a time. I also own two of Miranda Esmonde-White’s Classical Stretch dvds. I use both to get a great workout right here in my living room! I save on gas, a gym membership, babysitting, & time! I love it, and I am so thankful to be able to work out at home!
Blessings to all of the money saving moms out there! And thank you, Crystal, for your wonderful website! :o)
I put in an order for a quarter of a steer – by buying in bulk and from a local farmer, I pay way less and feel better about what I’m feeding my family!
I figured out that adding a simple cardigan (that we already owned) turned my daughter’s spring/summer dress and skirt into a winter outfit. Most of her dresses look too “summery” to keep wearing into fall but this one looks fine.
I used up some leftovers
I saved money by pulling leftovers from the fridge for lunch! I was running behind this morning and feeling a bit under the weather and so tempted to get pizza for lunch (! – my craving when allergies are out of control) but filled up a couple containers instead. Not only saving me money for the food, but also the gas and time to go pick something up!
I got a prescription filled at CVS and received a $20 gift card with a competitors coupon. Now I have $20 in free groceries.
Another morning with my homemade pumpkin spice latte. I’m so proud of myself!
Instead of eating out, my husband went to the grocery store and bought a 3 lb package of boneless skinless chicken breasts. Our family of five had one meal off of it last night, and I will be able to stretch it for 2-3 more meals. Not bad for $7.
We ate from the freezer!
I got a discount on my medicine today from the dentist. PTL.
I am using up items in my pantry for supper,
We spent less than $200 on groceries this month when we normally spend &250-$350!
I saved money by bringing my lunch to work.
I used the last of the leftover pot roast to make my husband 2 lunch wraps, which he loved. For supper, I made chicken wings (nice find on sale for $2 off) and made my own wing sauce rather than buy a special bottle. Husband and 3 sons cleaned the bones like cavemen and thought I was the best ever for making them. Only sad thing is, there are no leftovers now.
I save money everyday by carpooling. I work about 40 miles from my home and take advantage of the local ride sharing program. Beyond just saving money on gas and vehicle wear and tear, I also get a little extra sleep.
I saved money by packing my lunch for work today and by using a “rain check” at CVS to get Cheerios for $1.38, after using my .50/off coupon. I also saved by planning my trip so I could go by CVS (which is next to daycare) when I dropped off the kids, instead of driving all the way back out during lunch and wasting gas. For the win! 🙂
I printed my coupons on the back of a paper from my daughter’s preschool (that I no longer needed).
I got excited about buying a bunch of Starbucks coffee drinks at CVS this week, and was getting ready to print out the coupons. The I looked in my coffee cupboard and realized that I have a few months worth of coffee products and I don’t need more. So I didn’t go do the deal shopping.
I filled up the the gas tank of the car for$2.85/gal. It hasn’t been that low for a long time!
Wow!
After losing a precious pet and pulling a quad muscle, all I really wanted was chick-fil-A, but cooler, frugal minds prevailed and we cooked a lovely homemade breakfast for dinner.
I worked out at home too! We have a treadmill in our basement, and it was too rainy and cold to walk outside!
Oh just little save yesterday. Used a couple coupons at the grocery store and then used a coupon for school pictures. BTW folks if you are still filling out that little paper thing the school sends with your kid for lifetouch then you’re doing it wrong! Order it online! There are coupons you can find to save a couple dollars. You get to pick your backgrounds also and have different backgrounds for different picture sets. I did this with my oldest and loved it and did it again yesterday when filling out for my youngest for today’s picture day. It was only 10% so only like 2-3 dollars was saved but every dollar counts in my book.
I give my hubby and son their haircuts every 3 weeks
I saved today by scoring free exercise equipment, a gazelle, and a treadmill, from freecycle!
Went to the dentist for my regular teeth cleaning. Never a good time because it takes a few good hours out of the day, but the time spent preventing future dental problems is well worth it!
Instead of buying ingredients for a work pot-luck, I scrounged up enough at home to make apple butter bars. They were a hit!
I cut my husband and sons’ hair. I save $45 every time I cut their hair!
we saved by eating leftovers from Sunday’s church dinner today for lunch.
Well, today was rather unexceptional! I made lunches for my husband and our 2 children and I made our supper with what was on hand!!!
I made chili with half the meat and twice the beans for a more frugal dinner!
I am a recently graduated graduate student so money is tight. I enjoy playing piano and my new job as a counselor requires that I take time for resting and refreshment. My local Goodwill store had a piano for sale for $ 78.99 and this was too much for me to spend. Each week, Goodwill puts a different color tag on sale for 50% off. For three weeks I went into the store to see if the yellow color tags were on sale. The piano remained unsold these three weeks. I decided that if the piano went half price I would buy it. The yellow tags are 50% off this week and right after I saw the sign I rushed to the furniture section to see if the piano had sold. I bought it for only $42 with all the keys working and in good condition!!! Buying a used real piano was less expensive than buying a keyboard. I am so excited to start playing it and so excited for the bargain I got on it!
Had a chai tea latte at home instead of one from Starbucks or Wawa.
I saved by trading extra food I had for haircuts from a friend of mine.
I saved with coupons at the grocery store. Also I only bought off my list based on our planned meals this week.
Yesterday my son and I re-purposed a beautiful wooden headboard I bought at a home improvement thrift store for a buck! yes! We went to Home Depot and he picked out a quart of paint in a color he liked and he got to work. Then we searched Craigslist for a metal bed frame and found one near home for a good price. When we went to pick it up the seller was very, very kind and refused to take our cash. What a kind gesture! We got home, cleaned up the frame, put his existing mattress and box spring on it then attached it to the newly painted headboard. Gorgeous!
For a grand total of $12 he got a bedroom makeover AND a lesson in paying it forward : )
My husband and I had small group and brought a snack that we already had on hand instead of picking something pre-made at the grocery store on the way.
I saved by making a big pot of chili from ingredients on hand and freezing four meals worth for later. Having meals in the freezer keeps up out of restaurants on hectic days so we save now and later.
We’ve been in our home for 7+ years and have three boys (3,5,8). In an effort to have more open space for them to just be boys, we only had a table in the dining room and not in the kitchen. Well, we are totally in need of some seating (and extra counter space) in the kitchen now. I stopped by a Habitat for Humanity store that is closing and bought a bi-fold door. For what, you ask?? Well, it’s going to be the tabletop for my new kitchen island project! Best part…it was only $10!
been dying to see the movie but patiently waited for a free red box code and there was one yesterday!
Going to Aldi and Dillons instead of just Dillons, which is alwYs easier with my two little kids.
I saved money by cooking dinner at home. I was feeling lazy yesterday, but I didn’t want to spend money on eating out. So we had homemade butternut squash soup and salad.
I fixed a pair of my daughter’s pants.
I use a refillable Keurig cup (filled with Starbucks coffee from the grocery) instead of patronizing Starbucks!
I followed a Pinterest tip and freshened drawers and closets in our bedroom with magazine perfume pages- magazines that were passed along from a friend. Not too strong- it just smells so grown-up in there 😉
I saved money today by making do with what we had in our house for meals. Meals weren’t exactly what I’d plan if I was making out a menu, but they were balanced and used up bits and pieces from the pantry, fridge, and freezer.
I had lentil soup from the freezer for dinner. Being a cheap meal, it saved me money. Also saved me a lot of time since it was already made and all I had to do was heat it up.
Making my own yogurt and soaked whole wheat cinnamon raisin bread 🙂
Yes! Gyms are nice, but they are expensive. I have a treadmill and elliptical. I also have a road to run on! I save money on not having a membership, save gas money, and TIME! How easily we forget the added in time to drive to and from the gym.
We were traveling for a funeral and stayed with friends for a night.
I saved on the 13th by making soup for lunch by using food from our garden and leftovers….a really yummy broccoli/cauliflower soup. Then our supper included a salad made from our garden greens and sweet and sour cabbage along with a chicken entrée…chicken was bought on sale.
For free exercise, I walked and did stair-stepping on our own back porch steps.
I spent $30 today, but it was at a thrift store for a $229 dollar item for an item I have been wanting for two years, but could not and would not pay full price for. Sometimes waiting is hard, but even rare items occasionally turn up in thrift stores
My family saved money by choosing to eat leftovers in the refrigerator. We really wanted to go out, but decided it was better to eat what we already had and not let anything go to waste.
Today we saved by emptying the refrigerator of left-overs at lunch time. My kids ate just about everything up, except one bowl’s worth of chili left from watching football on Sunday. And I think one of them will probably eat it for breakfast before we start our home ed today. They’re goofy like that!
Brown bagging my lunch for work helps keep the budget in tack. I also keep a bag a pretzels or crackers in the car when kiddos get the munchies while doing errands or driving back and forth to activities.
I actually love being a gym member and it works well for me (I like doing Les Mills classes, I’m child free, and I work from home so the gym was a major way I made friends when I moved to a new town), but I’m glad you’re able to get your workout in at home. It takes discipline to do that and many people would just skip it altogether.
One thing I did to save money today? Making my own coffee and NOT going out for breakfast or coffee after the gym. Came home and drank my protein shake!
I saved by breastfeeding my new baby girl! Nursing isn’t always easy, but I know it is saving our family lots of money over the cost of formula, not to mention the other benefits.
We are saving lots for my in-laws today by moving my MIL in with us for a time to help her do physical therapy and regain her strength after two weeks in the hospital. The hospital wanted a rehab facility so she could get 2-3/day therapy and she wanted home to save $$ and just be home, but only 2-3/week therapy. We are bringing her to our home to be able to do therapy often, to boost her spirits with our kids and to save $$. I am nervous, so pray for us, but we will be saving them thousands!
I saved money today by collecting seeds at the end of Summer from my beautiful French Marigold plants. These seeds I will use to start new marigolds next Spring instead of paying for plant starters.
I mended a pair of pants for my Dad. Lucky for him I even had matching thread. 🙂
I LOVE reading through all of the comments on these threads! I saved money today by NOT going anywhere, so no money spent in gas. I ran swagbucks on my phone all day, and made all meals from scratch.
We had leftovers for dinner.
My husband has exzema and his skin care products keep him sane, but are expensive! I spent some time researching the best store this week to buy the cream and looked for coupons online for his products.
Made lunches for my kids.
I saved by using the ham bone I’d kept in the freezer to make soup for dinner! It wasn’t my husband’s favorite meal ever, but it was filling and nutritious. And my older son kept asking for more, so I consider that a success! 🙂
I purchased baking supplies at Aldi for our annual muffin exchange
I packed 4 lunches for my family! School lunches are ick and eating out for mom and dad is waaaay to expensive!
I saved by eating Mexican food at home, instead of going out for it. And we invited Grandpa over to eat with us, so he saved too!
I reused junk mail envelopes to send out a couple of bills and letters.
I prepared all of our meals for yesterday at home and packed leftovers for lunches today.
I saved money by mending a hole in a hand me down jacket so my son could enjoy it this fall 🙂
Made applesauce, apple pie filling and apple cider with free apples my boys helped pick.
My son needed a couple pair of pants. We live 30 min. from the biggest city where we can shop. But knowing it was Columbus day I checked out The Children’s Place online. (the only store I can get my 9-year-old son the pants he likes). Not only was there free shipping but I found a coupon code to stack and bought his pants for under $8. Since this was online I also saved over $10 buy not driving to the city.
I also worked out on my treadmill at home. Mine I got free after mentioning to several people that I just needed to find that one person who had a treadmill sitting in their basement that they just wanted to get rid of. My friend’s inlaws had one, and now it’s ours! And just this Sunday that same friend mentioned that they were going to be paying an arm and a leg for a saxophone for their son and I was so happy to tell her that we have one they can borrow for as long as they like!
Hubby and I went on a date using a gift card. 🙂
I went to my favorite little consignment shop looking for something wonderful at a great price. The owner told me she was changing to the fall/winter clothes and was having consigners pick up the spring/summer clothes that were left. Apparently many women didn’t want to get back things that didn’t sell and told her to do what she wanted with them. She told me to get anything I wanted and she would donate the rest! I was able to get several new pieces that were really nice for free!!! Some of them I had even tried on before but had put back in the name of “I don’t really need it that much.”
Today I saved by meal planning, it always helps me stick to my budget or come in under. It’s simple but works!
My husband made homemade pizza for dinner yesterday
I prepared dinner before a busy evening out and that saved us from picking up a meal on the way home because we knew something delicious was waiting for us at home!
We were planning to eat out since both kids had games but when plans changed, we ended up eating at home.
I worked a special event at work & it earned me a free lunch voucher worth $7.50 to use at a restaurant on campus!
I used Kohls cash and a giftcard and a coupon to pay for two bras for myself. Very much needed! I got the two items for less then the cost of one!
I find one of the best ways to keep expenses low is to use what you have. Til it’s gone 🙂 I’m not that happy with my shampoo right now, and I’ve been tempted to run to the salon and buy another $20 bottle of product. Today I squelched that desire and opted for slight filmy, but do-able shampoo that is already in my shower. Next month, my hair is going to look GREAT! This month, I’ll just have to settle for good 😉
On the 13th we saved by accepting a free piano that would have cost us thousands of dollars!
I saved money on the 13th by eating leftovers for lunch, not making my usual trip to the grocery during my lunch hour, and by only buying carrots for dinner. I used what I had in the house to make dinner for my husband and I. Also, since I, myself, prefer quiet, when I came home, I didn’t turn on the tv or lights. I opened windows (it was 75+ degrees) to make it warmer in our house before the storm came through.
So, I used the least amount of gas/electric as possible and made a simple, yet nutritious dinner as well as picked up minimal groceries at the store on my way home to save wear and tear on my car AND gasoline. My motto: every little thing adds up…
Today I saved b/c I was able to turn the Ac unit off and open up the windows which will help on the electric bill.
I save by making a big batch of crepes or waffles every weekend for my kids to eat all week. No expensive box cereal for us!
I know I’ll be working late tonight so I’m about to set up my crockpot to cook dinner. Otherwise I would be tempted to pick up take-out on the drive home.
Bought books at Half Price Books that were on my daughters Christmas list. Some were new, some were used, but didn’t pay full price!
I do the same thing for my daily workouts. I like to watch youtube workout videos and I have a small stash of equipment (yoga mat, dumbbells, etc.) at home. Also, I will run down and back on our country road for exercise. FREE & easy!
I made my own spaghetti sauce. Cheaper than the jAr and enough for 3 meals.
I packed lunch for my husband to take to work.
I had a bunch of apples that had “lost their crunch” and no one wanted to eat them anymore so I made a batch of homemade apple pumpkin butter to enjoy all winter long and to give away as gifts. This is the first time I’ve combined the two flavors, but it won’t be the last. So yummy.
I went through all of our bins of clothes (might say I went shopping!) and not only pulled out clothes for the cooler season, but formed a pile to send to ThredUp. I also placed an order with Azure Standard and got 25lbs of oats for under $6 and wheat berries to make our bread.
Ordered some items from childrens place for OCC boxes-8 items for $11!
I exercise by walking on the road we live on. Not only does it save money (no gym membership or gas) but it saves time- no time used to drive to the gym. The down side is sometimes the weather is a problem- like this morning when it is raining. When I cannot walk due to the weather, I plan extra cleaning, like vacuuming the stairs and sweeping and mopping the kitchen.
I also cooked pinto beans in the crock pot into refried beans . Two pounds of dried beans made 10 cups of refried beans. We use a lot of refried beans for burritos and nachos.
We skip the gym membership too. I use FREE youtube videos for cross training and our treadmill came from Play it again sports.
I bring my own brewed coffee to work instead of swinging through Starbucks. Starbucks is nice for a treat now and then, but it almost makes me want to cry to pay $4 for a cup of coffee.
For an upcoming cruise, instead of buying luggage tag holders, I made my own using my laminator and zip ties!
We tried to have our computer fixed but it cost as much to buy new. So we saved by buying just the computer tower instead of the whole package. Now on to the installation!
I homeschool and I am also starting a small business. I was VERY close to hiring someone this week to help me juggle everything which would have cost us at least $50 a week ($200 a month!) But instead, to postpone that next step, my husband held a family meeting that resulted in my family volunteering to take responsibilities off my plate. to free up my time. Now my husband has ownership over dinners, and cleaning the bathrooms. My older kids decided to not only do some household chores but to also play with our youngest while I am working at home. I am blown away by the love as well as the savings!
I used coupons and paired them with the deals in the store ads!
Used JC Penney Portrait coupon to get birthday pictures taken for my seven year old – $7.99 plus tax instead of the ridiculous school picture price of $20 for two sheets. I was able to get 6 cards, an 8 x 10, two 5 x 7, four 3.5 x 5, and 16 wallets. Plus, he did such a great job and I got to pick my favorite picture for the package!
Today, I saved by cutting up a huge amount of carrots that were going bad and freezing them instead of throwing them away.
Today I saved by making another batch of homemade laundry detergent and coffee creamer.
I’ve been diligently saving my Bi Lo fuel perks for a while. My husband was able to fill up his car and put some in a gas can for 50 cents a gallon. Yea for cheap gas!
I really, really did not want to cook dinner but instead of hitting the drive thru we ate at home and I am so glad we did!
I reviewed our medical bills and payments for this year and found a few places where funds were double-deducted. A few minutes of diligence resulted in over $100 in money resubmitted to our health account.
shopped at Vera Bradley online and got 70% off cute baby items!
Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to do anything to save money yesterday. I went to work and then had to put my dear feline friend of 17 years to sleep after a month long illness. I miss him terribly. 🙁
I’m so sorry for your loss. I’m an animal lover & dread the day we lose our pups. Praying for you!
I’ve been there & am praying for God to heal your heart & bring you comfort.
I had a coupon to jcpenny and got 5 kids shirts, one shirt for me, and a pair of jeans for 85 cents!
I remembered to turn my SB TV app on my phone
Using my crockpot
I found a local facebook group for selling and buying clothing. I’ve lost a lot of weight, so I needed some new-to-me clothes. I bought several pairs of jeans for $3 each! That’s cheaper than Goodwill! I also sold an item on a local yardsale facebook group.
I saved today by packing lunches for my husband and me to take to work.
I made a big batch of chicken broth—so much cheaper than buying cans of broth!
I made two bottles of homemade “Windex”- such a money saver but, the best part is eliminating the waste by reusing the bottles several times (I find these two benefits go hand in hand most times!).
I stayed home because we save money everyday by only having one car that my husband uses for work. I borrow my mom’s car if I must (doctor’s appt, etc). This also makes us combine our errand trips, saves on gas and insurance
Today we saved by fixing our Eden Pure heater ourselves instead of buying an expensive part or paying someone else to do it for us!
We went to the consignment shop and found 3 pairs of lined winter boots for my little boys. They were half price, so I bought 3 boots for $6!
I saved by using a freezer meal rather than dinig out
I saved by teaching my daughter how to make cookies at home instead of buying them. Good teaching moment and great time together.
i made my own dish soap
We ate all of our meals at home. I walked outside at the local community college.
I am riding my bicycle to work today, just like I do most days. That is 14 miles I do not drive. It adds up. By the way, I live in Minnesota, and I am a grandmother of a college student.
I saved today by pulling dinner from the freezer. It was a meal I had doubled a while back and was perfect for a night when what was planned just didn’t happen. A bonus: there was enough left for my husband’s lunch today.
Today we saved by enjoying homemade chai tea latte’s for an afternoon treat instead of going out to a few well known & tempting coffee shops! 🙂 Loving fall!! & LOVE Mrs. Meyers!
I saved money today by nursing my baby instead of feeding him formula,
We ate leftovers for lunch instead of buying sandwiches at the sandwich shop…even though they smelled so good!
I saved today by packing my kids their lunches and not having them buy from school. thx
I saved by trading clothes with someone to refresh my wardrobe rather than buy new clothes.
I saved today by using coupons for our date night- free dessert and one free movie ticket, plus $5 off the other movie ticket.
Thank you for all of the time and effort you put into this website Crystal!
I needed some more canning jars and a friend had some that she was going to sell. I bartered handmade soaps for canning jars . All I needed to purchase was some more lids for canning instead of the jars 🙂
I saved by making my own carpet cleaning solution using laundry detergent and water! It was a lot easier on my wallet instead of buying that expensive cleaner!
Home baked birthday cake for my friend instead of buying one 🙂
Honestly, we eat out a lot and off late we have become more conscious about saving money. So, how I saved today is I cooked our meals instead eating out. It has been quite challenging since I get so exhausted by the end of the day. We are taking one day at a time and today has been a success. I have saved today about $20-$30 since we are a family of four!
Forever21 had Columbus day sale today. I had been waiting for a good sale like this to buy some of the clothes i’ve been looking for. Instead of paying from credit/debit card, I used the discount gift cards that I bought online and saved additional 7.5%.
I have more money left in my clothing budget for the next use. I’m going to save more and splurge on a much needed good haircut.
I love that I was able to stretch my $$$ and spent less by being creative.
Today I saved massive by using snap by groupon and cashing in on the huggies wipes deal and then the $3.00 back on diapers along with $3.00 coupons from pickupthevalues.com. $2.99 a pack of diapers once I get my check back from snap is awesome for us!
I redeemed my Kellogg’s Family Rewards points for a free Redbox DVD rental. Date night at home with the hubby won’t cost a cent!
I shopped the Justice bonus sale and got a few gifts to put away for Christmas 🙂
A friend of mine is expecting her second baby in January. I found a beautiful (free!) crochet pattern on Pinterest a while back and bought some super soft yarn on the way home from work today using a leftover Walmart giftcard I earned from Swagbucks. Now I just have to get started on the blanket so I finish in time. 🙂
I wanted fast food for lunch. I checked the listings of the secret shopping company I do shops for. They had a shop for the burger joint I like. So I got my meal for free and was paid to eat it!
My biggest savings accomplishment for the day was making dinner at home when I had the strongest temptation to just run & get a fast food burger meal. We rarely eat out but sometimes…that little (lazy) fast food devil whispers in my ear, lol!~TJ
Today we saved by switching work shifts so that we didn’t have to use child care.
I saved by making homemade pumpkin muffins with my kids while they are home for fall break. We turned off the tv and spent time making a big batch and freezing the extras. I used mini muffins tins so it took less than half the time of big muffins. Which saved electricity.
I saved .30 cents per gallon bypassing the nearest but higher price gas station.
Today I saved by using a Groupon for a portraits package. My son got some great 1 year old shots and I only spent $19.99!
We saved money by carpooling with a neighbor to school & work.
Making freezer meals ahead of time helps us not to eat out in the evenings!
Today I saved money by: 1) packing snacks for my daughter while we were out so we didn’t have to purchase anything when she got hungry 2) Eating leftovers 3) Rented movies from the library instead of paying for a Redbox and 4) Enjoyed reading magazines that I get for free from church.
Cooking dinner at home
We ate dinner at home and picked free apples to make applesauce!
I decided to knit a hat for a family member for Christmas so I started looking at patterns today.
We are remodeling our bathroom. I am painting the walls and cabinets myself.
I saved by going under my grocery budget by twenty dollars. I stashed the twenty dollars away.
I gleaned apples from a neighbor’s tree on Sunday and made applesauce today: 7 quarts in the freezer and I believe my son ate a quart himself. He’s fourteen and eats continuously.
Even though my husband is gone hunting and I really wanted to eat out we cooked at home.
Made our meals from scratch & did the Huggies deal at CVS, rolling giftcards & ECB I was able to get 2 boxes for less than $15 and got 10 ECB’s back.
I saved $10 today…. I put the shorts back on the rack! On the way to the grocery store, I passed huge sale signs at our favorite sports store. I am a sucker for a good deal, so I popped in real quick with my boys even though in the back of my mind I was thinking “There is nothing you NEED to spend money on here.” I browsed through the killer deals and came up with a pair of exercise shorts I liked…. which I didn’t technically need (and I definitely didn’t have the extra money for!) I was so proud of myself when, after carrying them around for ten minutes, I put them back on the rack and walked out without spending a penny.
We packed all our lunches for homeschool co op inclusive filling coffee cups and water cups at home.
Today I used coupons at the grocery store. 🙂
Today I saved by repairing our dryer myself instead of calling a repairman! The dryer itself was free from a friend, so I didn’t have to spend money on a new dryer. I also saved by staying home and eating food we already had on hand. 🙂
I saved today by dehydrating free apples. They will taste great this winter!
We had meatless dish for lunch and leftovers for dinner with waffles for dessert (cooking from pantry).
I bartered with our neighbor who is a mechanic. My husband’s car is broken and our neighbor needs some stuff listed for sale on Craigslist and Ebay. His computer died, so I am listing his stuff and he is providing free labor for the car repair—so we only have to pay for the replacement part!
Rented a movie my son has been wanting to watch for free from red box with the code posted here.
I resisted temptation at the store and am relying on the Lord to supply all my needs.
I used the drive through at the pharmacy to avoid impulse shopping for things I don’t need.
I ate leftovers again today! And I used a dance party with the kids as exercise so I don’t have to pay for a gym membership either.
I used a 40% off coupon for a school item I have been needing for the second semester and saved $28. Hurray for one day sales.
I cut my two daughters hair instead of taking them to get it done! Not the best job but they are still adorable 🙂
I gleaned some walnuts from my neighbor’s yard. She was happy to have them cleaned up and I was so grateful for all the free nuts. 🙂 We are nuts for nuts! And it was a gorgeous fall day to do it.
I called a few places for tire quotes to get the best deal to replace our vehicle’s tires.
We enjoyed a free Redbox movie with today’s promo code and feasted on homemade treats!
I made all our meals from scratch and hung the laundry outside to dry.
I took my kids to Wendy’s for junior frostys, which I purchased ahead of time. 10 frostys for a dollar is a much better buy than purchasing one for each child!
Inspired by your recent posts, I earned a bunch of swagbucks.
I saved money today by using up some left overs and things out of my freezer that I had forgotten about to creat a Chicken Pot Pie for dinner. Huge hit and helped clean the freezer and fridge out. And while I was getting stuff out of the freezer I found two bags of fruit for smoothies that I didn’t realize I had. I was going to run to the store to get more but didn’t have to.
I didn’t eat out today, and despite really needing some new black shoes, didn’t make an impulse purchase on a $35 pair I found online. I wore my one pair of good flats and was happy today. Simplicity feels good.
I cooked from scratch for my family of 6!
I always intend to have a salad for lunch and well, the carton of salad usually wilts and rots before we eat it all… recently I decided to divvy up the large box of organic greens into proper lunch portions and also into recycled chick fil a salad containers. I had one for lunch today and they seem to be keeping well, no condensation like the salad container usually gets. Less waste, full at lunch and less snacking.
I saved by eating oatmeal for breakfast and a healthy homemade salad / sandwhich for lunch.
I didn’t spend any money at coffee shops this weekend and haven’t eaten out once this past week. It made me want to buy something for myself, but I resisted. I have really been needing to buy some new black shoes. There was a sale online and I considered shelling out $35 plus shipping–outside of my budget. I ended up realizing that I have a good pair of flats I love and decided to be happy with wearing them today. It felt good to be content and save.
I cleaned our floors with vinegar instead of store-bought cleaner, and mended some jammies so they can be handed down to our youngest child.
I compost all fruit and vegetable scraps, creates some awesome dirt.
I saved money today by making all our meals at home. I plan to save money all week because I made a meal plan for the week and shopped accordingly and will be preparing all of our meals at home this week instead of eating out at all this week. It takes a lot of work, but it ends up saving money and bonus, it’s healthier too! 🙂
We made Greek yogurt at home.
I really wanted to go out to eat after my daughter’s volleyball game was over at about 6:30 tonight. Instead, we came home and made a delicious pot of soup. I had to have a little internal conversation with myself lol, but I’m glad the frugal me won that battle!
We have a 22 month old and a five week old. Before she was born, I stockpiled freezer meals, so that we wouldn’t end up relying on expensive convenience food. Today we ate entirely from our freezer stash.
We saved today by staying home and eating up what’s in the fridge.
I bought Huggies wipes at Target for $2.04 each and used several coupons. Then i submitted my receipt to snap (Groupon app) for a $2.00 back rebate for each pack. This along with some embroidered onesies I made is the answer to 4 baby showers I have coming up! Whoohoo 🙂
I saved today by painting my nails instead of going to a nail Salon and getting a manicure!:-)
I saved by making coffee at home (in the coffee pot and not the Keurig), making pumpkin scones and muffins for breakfasts this week and prepping dinner for tomorrow tonight so we aren’t tempted to eat out.
Today I saved money by making coffee and cinnamon rolls at home, thereby skipping the trip to starbucks 🙂
We had a “meatless Monday” dinner, so no money spent on meat!
I packed my lunch to work today. I’ve been limiting myself to eating out at work only once a week. Simple but its definitely been saving me some money.
I prepped snack mix packets for a trip we’ll be taking later in the week. Those are so much more filling and healthy than convenience foods!
🙂
I save so much by making my own laundry detergent.
I hung laundry out in the sun to dry – saved money not using my dryer and lifted my spirits as I soaked up some sun at my clothesline!
My daughter found a highlighter while I was taking a nap a couple Sunday’s ago and managed to decorate her Sunday dress in bright yellow! Today I was trying to find a way to take care of the spot because it is a beautiful dress and I could not get one last spot out on the attached belt. I went to my sewing box to see what I could do to cover it up, and found some ribbon from a gift bag (the bag wasn’t worth keeping, but the ribbon was still good!
It didn’t add my last sentence for some reason: So, I saved by saving ribbons from torn gift bags and using them to cover stubborn spots! (Those ribbons also make nice flowers to use as accessories
I saved by filling up my freezer with homemade rolls and dried beans that I cooked in the crockpot. These will be easy to add to dinners next month when baby number three arrives and we’re all sleep deprived. 🙂
I went through my son’s closet and realized he had enough warm clothes so I will be returning some things I had bought for him.
My daughter & I stayed home all day & made crock pot applesauce with two boxes of irregulars we bought on a recent trip. One of our favorite ways to save during the Fall!
Twice a month a few of us girls have an all day shopping extravaganza! We usually only bring $40 with us and search hard for deep discounts! We are always amazed by how much we can get with our $40 budget. We pack snacks and drinks and are on a mission!
Afterwards, we meet up at one of our homes and all cook together for dinner!
I made a double dinner so I could put one in the freezer for when baby comes so we’ll have an option besides take out!
Today the kids were off of school and we were out and about until almost lunch time and I thought about going and grabbing some quick lunch, but to save money I just came home and whipped up some quick lunch with what I had on hand.
I went grocery shopping and saved over $13, plus made about $3.50 back between Snap, Checkout 51, and Ibotta. Otherwise, I spent no money. I made brownies from scratch. This evening, my husband and I played a game and watched a movie that we rented for a dollar yesterday at Hastings. We were also able to go another day without running our AC because of the cooler weather, which is still a big deal at this time of year in Texas!
I stacked fire wood! Our neighbor’s tree came down in a storm, and he offered us the wood in exchange for clearing it out of his yard. Hubby saws on the weekends, and the kids and I stack & haul during the week. (Our wood stove saves us hundreds of dollars every winter; it’s hard work, but it’s good work.)
I chose Dollar Tree over Walmart!
2 ways I saved…1)Went to a corn maze with my kids and purchased our tickets on Groupon for 1/2 the cost! 2) Began repainting the kitchen cabinets – major change for little $!
I put flannel sheets on the bed, I purchased on clearance with a gift card over the summer, instead of turning the heat on.
I didn’t have a dinner planned and considered just picking somthing up after work…instead I thought about what I had at home and bought one key ingredint (chicken sausage) to put it all together!
My mom wears Dansko clogs every day. I found a barely worn pair at 1/3 the price on ebay. Perfect way to save!
1.) I ate dinner at home instead of buying.
2.) but! I also didn’t save and went out with friends. Which was so needed. Sometimes it’s necessary to set saving aside… No matter how hard it is for us!
I ate leftovers for lunch.
I used cloth diapers on both of my kids (and washed them myself, instead of paying a diaper service), I earned 120 swagbucks and now have enough for a $5 amazon gift card (a penny earned is a penny saved, right? 😉 , I recieved some hand-me-down baby clothes and sewing materials which I can make use of instead of buying those things new, I ate leftovers for lunch, and I packed a sack lunch for my hubby to take to work tomorrow. Oh, and I, too, exercised at home! I use a free app that keeps me on track with a routine instead of paying for a gym membership! So thankful for all the great opportunities I have to save money that I don’t even usually think about.
I had a cup of tea at home with a friend rather than going out for coffee. =)
Signed up for snap and cashed in my shop kicks fo $10.00 target card. A moneymaker day.
The morning was spent with my Parents as Teachers lady playing with my youngest guy and giving me great ideas for age-appropriate, homemade math games to play with him. Then we went to the indoor pool with friends and then kids played for hours while I got to read. Lastly I began working on a simple handmade monkey costume that one of my girls will wear for both Halloween and her part in the school musical. It was a good day!
I repurposed some leftovers to make into another meal tonight and no one knew!!!
We’ve been eatting from the freezer and pantry this week, trying not to spend money on groceries. So glad we chose to do this , because our fridge died!! Yes, we had to spend a bunch of money on a new fridge today, but it was the last day of a sales-tax free weekend on energy-star appliances ( then we price-matched and got 10% off) And I didn’t have to throw much food away, because we’d already eaten almost everything! I can see God’s hand in this :). It could have been a disaster!
today I packed fishy crackers in reusable bags and water in reusable water bottles for our daughter’s sports practice. While my daughter played lacrosse, the other two played on the playground – I haven’t had a gym membership in about 4 years – I tend to run in our neighborhood but today I used the playground equipment – push ups, dips, stairs, squats – all for free =)
My husband’s 40th birthday is tomorrow! I’ve been planning a nice meal for tomorrow evening, and this birthday definitely deserves a cake. The Lord provided my husband with a job last week after being without work since the end of May. When I went out today, I felt like since he now has a job, we might have a little breathing room in our budget, so I thought I would get a cake from the bakery. When I saw the prices, I decided that it was not a good idea. So, I saved money by deciding to bake some brownies that he loves instead and decorating them with icing and sprinkles. I felt bad about going the cheaper route for this special birthday, but on the other hand, I know that I am fixing something that he loves and will enjoy and will appreciate because that’s how he is. That’s how I saved money today, but God’s provision, including the things I’ve learned on your blog since I found it a year ago, has helped us to survive and make it with little to no income over the past few months. Thank you!!!
I save by not buying a gym membership also. I run outside or use free workout videos online.
I put the baby in cloth diapers. I had taken a break from cloth, but it’s time to get back with it. I have a great stash of diapers so we are using them!
We saved electricity by going through the house and unplugging things that aren’t used frequently 🙂
I made my own laundry detergent.
I took 1.5lb of chicken breast and made 2 dinners with it for my family of 5. Shredded BBQ Chicken with cabbage and rice for dinner last night, and Chicken Soup tonight!
I made home made cinnamon bread for breakfast and home made chocolate chip muffins for snacks.
My son and I shared a meal for lunch after we made our monthly trip to a local dairy farm for our milk, butter and some vegetables.
I dehydrated apples before they went bad
I used a coupon code for a book I’ve been wanting to get for a while. I saved about $11 and got free shipping. I felt a little guilty because it was a little expensive and I didn’t NEED it, but it will help me in my job, which will help me do better, and my daughter can use it when she learns about that subject in school, which will help her do better.
I recently canceled my gym membership and opted to pay $1.99 for the Run For God app. It’s like Couch To 5K, but with scripture and a bible study….anyway, I did my run (completing week 5!) and I know that saves me money being able to exercise without a gym or other equipment.
I made my own foaming shower cleanser. I also made homemade dog food with veggie scraps, rice, left over chicken and oats and I packed my kid’s and hubby’s lunch for tomorrow 😉
I made brioche hamburger buns and ciabatta bread and buns from scratch. It saves money and tastes so much better than the bread and buns you buy at the grocery store!
I cleaned my storm windows today with vinegar & essential oils instead of buying Windex (like I’d planned to!)
I stayed home all day! 😉
Last night I prepped extra potatoes for my husband to cook on the grill. I made breakfast for dinner tonight and included breakfast potatoes made from last night’s extra baked potatoes.
I saved money today by using a coupon when I ordered my pizza! lol Not much but it was something 😉
Had a nice lunch date with my husband today and we both ordered water to shave a few $ off the cost of the meal.
I cashed in 450 swagbucks for an Amazon gift card, cashed in 475 bing points for 500 swagbucks, pieced together lunch from leftovers in the fridge, and watched a show on cbs.com instead of paying for cable or renting a movie.
Was able to get almond flour for .29 with a credit I had.
I saved by using meat I cooked & froze last week to make a quick dinner tonight instead of eating out.
We ate breakfast, lunch, and dinner at home. I planned meals for the week. I took my list to the store and stuck to it. I used coupons and shopped for what was on sale. It was a productive day!
I saved by using up some various produce and whipping up an easy one-pot meal rather than spending money to go out to dinner on a busy evening.
I saved by using coupons and shopping the sales at the grocery store!
I chose the 70% off shirt for my daughter, rather than the 30% off shirt!
Savings of $7.00. 🙂
I used wash rags/cloths today to wipe up my kids’ faces and the kitchen rather than using disposable paper towels!
I made extra baby food to freeze, and we spent the whole day at home saving on gas.
I saved money today by downlaoding a free ebook instead of buying a new one!
I have saved money and time this week by making a big pot of soup and eating that through the week, found bread mix at the dollar tree for free with my coupon, going to make homemade bread, forgot we’re needed bread. Going to inventory the kitchen and use what I have.
I gave my two kids their piano lesson. As a private piano teacher I don’t see income from giving my own children lessons but I have to remind myself of the money I’m saving by being able to include them in my studio.
Cooked dinner from the pantry/freezer instead of going to the store. There is a one day sale tomorrow that I’m planning on going to so I would have ended up at the store twice otherwise.
Our very old fridge has finally gone completely crazy, freezing everything. We saved by purchasing a just listed fridge on Craigslist, and bought the black one for three hundred dollars less, even though I kind of wanted the stainless steel one…:)
I took advantage of a store pickup option for a new pair of church pants I need — save money because I don’t pay for shipping, and save time because I don’t have to go searching for them in the store. They are waiting for me 🙂
I checked the ad today for a store I don’t usually shop at (it’s out of my way), because I knew I’d be driving right past it on my way to a meeting. I got a couple amazing deals on fruit and other items I was needing to get this week!
*We opened the windows instead of having the air on
*We made coffee and snacks and treats from scratch to have on hand this week
*We gleaned 3 CSA boxes that no one picked up from the pickup site
*We bartered w/ a local gym to get a free membership for our entire family of 7!
Decided to make coffee at home instead of buying it out.
I love this question! It keeps me on track. 🙂
It is raining, going on day 4, so we went to the library kid program today for free. I also got my 2% back for having an executive membership at Costco so I went and used that to get a few things.
I bought clothes for my family at a secondhand store today, plus everything was 50% off for Columbus Day!
Today I stayed home with my two boys (saved on childcare…every day!), I made my homemade dishwasher detergent, ate my homemade beans instead of canned, ate homemade bread instead of buying from the store, washed cloth diapers instead of buying disposables, and printed off some coupons! Thank you for the inspiration!! 🙂
Brought my morning coffee and lunch and from home.
I used coupons and bought manager special meats at the grocery store. Also got my daughter snow pants off of a Facebook garage sale site
coupons @ CVS
Cooked dinner in the crockpot since we were busy until late thus avoiding the temptation of heading out to dinner.
I saved by not running the air conditioner, by switching childcare facilities, by buying lunch and saving half for dinner, by buying the end-of-day bread ($1 a loaf!), by serving yesterday’s dinner leftovers (with leftover lunch) for dinner, by letting the dishes pile up until there’s a full load, by using clearance K-cups that I bought and brought to work, instead of the overpriced ones available there, and by stargazing in my yard instead of renting a movie.
I was tired and didn’t want to cook but thankfully, I had soup and bread frozen in the freezer for a very low maintenance dinner 🙂
I brought peanuts and popcorn for my kids to snack on at the circus tonight, instead of buying it there.
I made dinner at home instead of going out.
I made a freezer meal at home instead of going through the drive through when I was pressed for time.
Baked pumpkin chocolate chip muffins to put in lunches for the rest of the week!
I saved by turning our a.c. to away and opening the windows.
So I do have a gym membership (I love the classes and go enough that it’s definitely worth the dues). Today, I got all the paperwork to get my health insurance reimbursement for the gym membership. Not sure if it counts as saving money, but it is getting some money back!
I bought my baby clothes at Goodwill (instead of buying new) for my baby, and cooked dinner instead of getting dinner on the go. 🙂
I made homemade hotdog buns and homemade chili (with venison that was harvested by my husband). Along with saving money it was also much healthier with Applegate hot dogs I found on markdown.
I visited an allergist today and I was able to get all the medicine I needed, except for one, as samples from him. This saved me from having to pay for 2 prescriptions!
Packed snacks for kids to eat during the shopping trip, that way saved money and time.
I purchased a new fridge for my new home. It is so much more energy efficient that it will save on utility bills for years to come. Sometimes you have to spend to save. (and yes, I got deals on the new fridge and the utility will take the old one and recycle it and give me 50 dollars)
I bulk shopped and don’t have to buy anything except produce the rest of the month.
I belong to a local yard sale site. I score 5 packs of Pampers wipes for $5 today! The mom that posted it can only use sensitive skin. 🙂 Yay me!
We had leftovers for dinner AND I did our laundry on cold instead of warm!
We had a crazy day, so I threw dinner in the crockpot in the brief time I was home between appointments. Otherwise, the savings was found when I hit Sonic during Happy Hour. Believe me, that real fruit slush I bought for my 3-year-old was worth every (half price) penny I spent. He had to get glasses today, and his prescription is really strong. Eye strain in the adjustment, plus the weirdness of having something on his face had him bawling. He was miserable, and the slush made it better.
i worked out at home too!! I run 3 miles in thirty minutes just running through my house!! Just the downstairs part!! I also did a yoga video!
By clipping coupons today and eating dinner at home. I also use Leslie Sansone’s “Walk At Home” DVD as my form of exercise these days!
I line-dried clothes instead of drying them in the dryer.
I packed my lunch instead of eating out.
I saved by making stuffing out of half of loaf of bread with other stuffing we had. It was great! Plus I used chicken stock in our pantry that had been forgotten.
I made supper from leftovers, and we watched a movie we borrowed from a friend instead of renting 🙂
I didn’t go out and do some errands, choosing to combine later in week and save time, gas and yeah, probably money
I made homemade apple chips
I drank coffee from home 🙂
I saved by making homemade granola bars today from ingredients I already had instead of buying more snacks at the grocery store.
I usually don’t by dryer sheet but snuggle dryer sheets were free recently so I got 3 boxes. I opened 1 box of dryer sheets and cut each one in half making them last twice as long.
Before going to Walmart to do my grocery shopping today, I stopped by a local mom and pop type store to check for marked-down produce and meat. (they actually have really good meat, anyway!). Got some marked-down kale and overripe bananas for .29/lb!
I planned a get together with my friend today, and instead of going out for coffee, we stayed in and I served tea. She had a Starbucks reward, and used it to pick up some pastries. We then went for a walk and enjoyed a nice long chat. Money spent? Nothing!
I used a $2-off-$5 meat coupon at Fred Meyer to pick up a large pack of drumsticks. I then boiled up the leftover bones to make chicken soup for last night’ s dinner. I did have to add a single chicken breast to ensure there was enough meat, but it was still a perfectly nourishing meal.
I foraged in my pantry and forced myself to prepare one of the bean soup mixes I’d put together for Christmas 2012. (Yup, that’s no typo!) It was pretty tasty, although the resulting soup pretty much resembled thinned out refried beans once I’d pureed it. Everyone ate it on night #1, but I was the only one who would eat the leftovers. Alright by me, and no one can accuse me of not getting my recommended fiber for the week!
I’ve been listening to free library audiobooks through the Overdrive app on my iPhone 4. I just finished listening to Anne Lamott’s Word by Word, which is a speech she presented at a 2004 writing conference. I loved it so much, that as soon as I was done listening to it, I listened to it all over again. The advice she gives may be directed towards writers, but the lessons about being honest and present in the moment are without category.
My sixteen-year-old son is very good about getting himself up and off to school with time enough to take the city bus. And since he’s my only student now, I no longer make the five mile round trip drive to school and back each day. And since the school district provides free bus passes, we’re buying a lot less gasoline this year!
We had leftovers for dinner
I saved today at the grocery store. I was behind the butcher as she was marking down the meat. Ground beef was a steal at a third of the normal price. Chicken breasts were a steal too!! Then I learned the secret to her markdowns. It’s all in today’s date and being at the store early!!
I saved by making soup using things I had in the fridge, packing the kids’ lunches, earrning 40 swagbucks and cashing in 450 swagbucks for a $5 Amazon gift card.
I stopped by the local Goodwill during my errands and found the Imaginext Bat Cave for my son’s Christmas present from us for $6.50. Looks like it’s barely been played with, and he will be so happy to see it under the tree!
