I recently discovered Ambleside Online — a free curriculum, in the sense that it tells you what to study (it doesn’t give you all the books). They are committed to keeping educational costs as low as possible, so as I’ve delved into the site and the forum/yahoo groups, I’ve found more and more free resources.
There are lots of links to free books online, free or cheap kindle books, free math, nature study, audio books, and reading resources — as well as ideas on how to implement the curriculum in inexpensive ways using the library and internet. It’s a fairy rigorous K-12 Charlotte Mason inspired curriculum. -Becky

Love Ambleside Online. We dovetail both AO and Old Fashioned Education to fit the needs of our family. We’ve used both for the last 3 years and have learned so much. Always look forward to planning out the new year and seeing what to pick from each.

We love Ambleside Online at our house too. I have been using it with my daughter for the last 9 years. It has been great and we both know so much more about history and literature. I am beginning to use it with my son this year too. Ambleside has been a great resource to keep our homeschool budget down.

Ambleside is awesome! We’ve been using it for the past two years and I think it is a great curriculum – and all for free! Even a lot of the books (although not all of them) are available for free on the Kindle or at your local library. They also have a new Ambleside Online Forum for connecting with and getting support from other users. If you are interested in a Charlotte Mason-based education, be sure to check it out!

Thanks for posting this. I was looking for something to supplement w/our existing curriculum. I homeschool part time (daughter attends a univ. model school) and I always feel like I’m not doing enough or there’s always something more we can do as our kids are young and eager to learn.

We Love Ambleside! Our family has been doing this for 4 years now. We’re not in
love with Geography, but love the history and literature.
