Ramona emailed in the following tip:
I use the Shopkick App to earn free gift cards to my favorite stores, and thought many of your readers might be interested in using it as well.
It’s kind of like Swagbucks where you earn points and then redeem those points for gift cards — however, you earn the points simply by walking into various stores and scanning product bar codes.
I recently earned a $50 gift card to Lowes’ (for 12,500 points) which I used with a $20 Lowes’ coupon and a price reduction of $20 to save myself a total of $90 for a miter saw.
It takes some time to earn point, but I am willing to work at it for a good gift card!
I love the Shopkick app. I always get $5 Target gift cards.
Redeemed my last points for cheesecake factory gift cards. Used on national cheesecake day for lunch with my husband (we shared a dinner portion pasta dish and each got a cheesecake slice) and paid $3 oop for an awesome lunch with tip! So yes I’ll keep using it!
Can you use Shopkick on a Samsung tablet that has to be used with Wifi?
I thought I already commmented, but I guess it didn’t go through. I’ve used this app for over a year, and have never had problems. I’ve also never been contacted by a tele-marketer. Maybe the phone number is to keep tabs on where the app is being used? I LOVE collecting the Target gift cards through this app. I tend to use them towards diapers & wipes whenever they have a sale going on. Through Cartwheel, coupons & this app, I’ve walked away with a $2 pack of diapers. It was motivating enough for me to keep at it! 🙂
I have been skeptical to redeem bc it makes you put in your cell phone #. My $5 gc would not be worth it if I would be getting phone calls from telemarketers. Can anyone speak to this? Thanks!
I have never gotten a call from a Shopkick telemarketer and even if I did, it is so easy to block calls from an iphone. Once I identify a caller I do not want to hear from again, I just block and problem solved!
OK. Thanks for the input. I just recently have been barraged w/ calls from #s I don’t know so now I am super careful. Haha.
I would love to at least try it but once again the app is not capable with windows based phones!
I’m interested, but in the disclaimer it reads that you might be contacted by telemarketers. Does this happen often?
I have never been contacted by a telemarketer.
I never have either.
Good to know! Thank you!
Me either.
I love Shop Kick! It’s so easy to use and earn enough points for small eGift cards to Target.
I love Shopkick! Walk in stores include WalMart, Target, JC Penney, Macy’s, Old Navy, Best Buy, & Gerbes (Dillon’s/Kroger) here. I simply turn the app on on my smartphone, walk in, & a circle pops up that I’ve earned however many kicks (points). I do some scans while I’m in WalMart or Target (while using Target’s wi-fi). Scan stores generally include Target, WalMart, Walgreens, Gerbes, & occasionally Best Buy, Petco, PetSmart, Toys R Us, plus a few others around Black Friday to Christmas. You can redeem points for gift cards (I get WalMart or Target) & receive them on your phone instantly to be used at check out. There seem to be more walkin points/kicks on Fridays & Saturdays. You can also earn gas cards (they are mailed to you after entering an online code & arrive in your mailbox in about 3 weeks).
Don’t forget to check out the products where some of them have 1 to 5 points, some none. They reload every couple of weeks. You can get anywhere from 10 to 50 points with these.
I love this app! I first started using it summer of last year. In the beginning it seems like there were a lot more opportunities to earn kicks (points toward gift cards). Now it seems like it takes a little longer. From summer until Dec. of 2014, I earned enough kicks to cash in for $150 in Target gift cards to use for Christmas presents. Right now I almost have enough kicks to cash in for $100 in gift cards. This is a legit way to earn gift cards for basically being in stores you are already likely to be in, so I am not going to complain that’s it’s taking me a little longer now to earn gift cards. I am thankful for the opportunity!
If there are big points, usually on a Friday, I will plan a trip to a mall where a lot of stores are close by. I got 1,800 points in one trip a few weeks ago.
I know what week you are talking about! I also earned about 1800 points in one day and I was absolutely giddy about it! First time that had happened in a long time. Right now I am saving my points for Christmas.
How does one get a $20 Lowe’s coupon???
I get them in the mail, I have a Lowes rewards card. Had one for $20 off $100 and $10 off $50.
It takes FOREVER to earn gift cards. It might be worth it if you regularly walk into these stores or have the time for going in on their “blue” days, but it is slow going. :-/
I have earned $3 so far, but it took quite a few months.
I agree. Takes forever to earn points. And once I finally earned enough to redeem for a $5 e-gift card, I got constant error messages trying to redeem them. Never did figure out a way to get the e-gift card, so I gave up on Shopkick.
Don’t give up, Kate! I’ve probably cashed out a dozen times – it really works. But I did have problems redeeming once. I e-mailed Shopkick and got a fast and friendly response, and I haven’t had any trouble since. Have you tried e-mailing them?
I think it depends on where you live and where you shop. I have a Target, a Tom Thumb, and a Walmart very close to my home, and I often “bargain shop” at those places. So as long as I remember to open my app, I earn a little bit that way, and if I have a few minutes to scan, there’s more money! I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to guest post on a blog about Shopkick and so I earn some extra referral kicks that way too, but even without that, I probably earn a few easy dollars per month.
I really like the ShopKick app. I trade in my points for Starbucks cards. You also get points just for checking in when you walk in the door of certain stores and many weekends they run check in specials worth extra points.
Yes, I LOVE Shopkick! I like saving points for Target gift cards, then use them towards diapers/wipes in conjunction with their baby sales. 🙂
