Welcome to my weekly Book-ish post where I share what I’ve been reading and watching recently. If you missed it, you can see my Reading Goals for 2018 and 44 Books I Plan to Read This Year.
What I Read Last Week
Last week, I read And It Was Beautiful. This book is written by the late Kara Tippetts — a blogger who passed away from cancer a few years ago. It’s beautifully written, moving, and inspiring.
It really challenged me in how I mother. Am I embracing the everyday, ordinary moments? So much of the time, I think that I miss a lot of moments because I’m not not slowing down enough to see them.
I’m also slowly reading — and absolutely loving — Mom Set Free. I love it so much that I asked a new friend if she’d be interested in doing a book study on it together. We start that on Saturday and I’m really excited about it!
What I Watched Last Week
Paddington 2 — Silas and I went to see Paddington 2 together and he really loved it. He said it was interesting and sad. I thought there were some really beautiful parts of it… especially the encouragement to be kind and nice to everyone. We definitely need all the reminders of that that we can!
The Darkest Hour — Jesse and I went to this on our anniversary and Jesse loved it. I thought it was interesting, but definitely not my favorite movie. In fact, I may have fallen asleep for a few minutes during parts of it (we were in the theater with recliner seats!)
By the way, we got MoviePasses for Christmas and we have fallen in love with them. You just can’t beat $10 per month to be able to see one movie of your choice every single day. I’ll be doing a really in-depth review of it on Friday.
We also loved watching the next episode of This is Us and Designated Survivor — two of our favorite shows.
How I Find Time to Read
People are always asking me how I find time to read. Honestly, it’s because I love to read, because I’ve chosen to prioritize it, because I don’t have a lot of other hobbies, and because I can’t not read. Also, when you love something, you usually can find ways to get creative to find time to fit it in — even if it’s in the little nooks and crannies of life.
I wrote a post on 3 ways to find more time to read — even when life is busy. And here are 7 more ways to find time to read.
I used to be an avid reader, and then school and 6 kids has kept me busy. I’m trying to find more time for reading in 2018. This week I’ve read “An Unseen Angel” by Alissa Parker. I’m working on “How to Lead When Your’e Not In Charge.” By Clay Scroggins
I’m currently reading:
Mom Enough – I’ve been really encouraged and reminded to keep my eyes on God
The Secret Zoo – I’m reading it to the kids, most chapters end with a real cliff hanger
Plowed Under by Amy Carmichael – I’m not very far yet
Crazy Love – Finally finished it, I read the French version so it took me a long time, very good though
The book of Numbers in the Bible – I’m in awe of all God did for His people and yet how quickly they forgot His power and greatness, then I realize I do the exact same thing
Thanks so much for sharing!
I recently finished the first book in the Percy Jackson series and loved it. I am now reading the latest in Alexander McCall Smith’s “the No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency” series, called “The House of Unexpected Sisters.” I love this series so much!
In non- fiction, I’m reading the 21 day Sugar Detox
Thanks so much for sharing!
I watched the Ella Balantine Anne of Green Gables and liked it (though not as much as the old one, I don’t think) and I’ve been finishing season eight of Castle. I’m reading The Hiding Place by Corrie ten Boom for the first time and loving it. Also like 12 other books, but that’s my main one ;]
The Hiding Place is one of my very favorite books!
I recently read Love Undocumented by Sarah Quezada. I had an advanced copy but it releases tomorrow! It was a wonderful book on her own personal experience with immigration. It was especially fitting to read at this time when changes are imminent. You can read my review here: http://gallopinto2.blogspot.com/2018/01/review-love-undocumented-risking-trust.html
Thanks so much for sharing the link to your review!
I have got to read Kara Tippetts’ books! Thanks for the reminder. 😉 A Daring Escape is so good- a fascinating historical drama that I really liked!
A Daring Escape is on my list to read next!
Any shows any of you MSM readers watch on Directv or Amazon Prime?
My hubby enjoy watching deadliest catch and moonshiners, but looking for something elseand different to watch.
We love Designated Survivor — but I’m not sure if that’s his type! 🙂
Justified. It’s sooooo good.
