Y’all. I have some news for you today.
And I may be the last person on earth to know this. Some of you will probably read this post and be like, “Hello, Crystal. We’ve all known this for years and years and years. Where have YOU been??”
I’m willing to put this out there and embarrass myself for one reason: Because I had a hair epiphany this week. And I can’t keep it to myself.
So I’m just going to risk the possibility of showing how little I know in the hopes that this post might change someone’s hair issues. Because if even one person is helped by this post, it will be worth it.
Here’s the truth: I have very thick, very straight, dry hair.
Now, lest you start feeling all jealous that my hair is thick, let me set the record straight: my hair is not the kind of hair that you see on those luxurious hair commercials.
Nope. It’s more like straw. Thick, thick straw.
I’ve fussed and fought and struggled with it through the years. I’ve tried different cuts. I’ve experimented with different gels and creams and sprays and shampoos. I’ve switched conditioners. I’ve used leave-in conditioner.
No matter what I’ve done or tried, it’s just still like trying to shape and brush and curl and tame straw.
I had made peace with my straw hair. And I was content to go through life with my straw head… because there are worse things and I’m all about choosing gratitude and focusing on the good.
But then I got an email from the folks at NuMe. They asked if they could send me some hair products to try out and possibly review.
I wasn’t really too excited about it. I didn’t have high hopes.
But since I knew some of you would find a review interesting and I’ve always wanted to try to figure out how to use a hair straightener, I said yes.
I had no idea that this was going to change my life.
The products came and I dutifully took them out of the box. There was this Argan Oil in the box and I thought, “What could it hurt? I’ll just put a little on my hair.”
So I did.
And my world changed. The straw became soft and luxurious. For real.
I kept looking in the mirror wondering who I’d switched hair with. But nope, it was really mine. And this change happened with just a little dab of a product on my hand and 30 seconds to run it through my hair.
I thought maybe it was just me who noticed the difference. But then I went on Facebook to do a video (see it here). I didn’t say anything about my hair. The video had nothing to do with hair. However, multiple people commented and one person even texted me saying, “Your hair looks amazing!!”
The next day, my hair looked so good. It was so soft and easy to work with.
I thought maybe it was a fluke. So I washed my hair and tried it again.
Same. Exact. Thing.
It wasn’t a fluke; this Argan Oil really, really works! I researched it a little bit and found out you can use it as a hair and scalp treatment, leave-in conditioner, or pre-styling treatment. This hair serum is filled with Vitamin E and other beneficial fatty acids that nourish the hair.
For me, it seems to work best if I put it in once my hair is dry and ready to style. You just need a tiny little bit. Rub it on your hands and then start working it into the underneath sections of your hair first. Finally, run your hands over the top sections of your hair.
{Oh goodness. Did I just do a little mini hair tutorial there?? I’m a little freaked out by that since I am NOT the girl you should be getting hair tutorials from. If you’re a hair stylist and you’ve used Argan Oil before, please help me out and tell us if I’m explaining the details all wrong on how to use this stuff. And you can laugh at my feeble attempts to try to explain this stuff, too! ;)}
I also tried out the hair straightener and loved it, too. In fact, Jesse saw me after I used it and was like, “I LOVE your hair!”
It doesn’t just make your hair beautifully straight (especially when paired with the Argan Oil!), but you can also use it to get this cool beachy waves look. I love that it’s an easy way to change up hairstyles and looks without a lot of effort. This 1.25-inch Silhouette Flat Iron uses 100% ceramic floating plates and negative ion therapy and it will not only curl or straighten your hair, it also adds shine and health.
If you struggle with frizzy hair like me and you are looking for a solution, I have GREAT news for you: NuMe is offering a very special deal on both products to my readers right now!
I asked them to do a really amazing deal and they came up with a good deal, but it wasn’t good enough, in my opinion. So I went back to them and asked if they could lower the price and throw in free shipping, too.
Guess what? They were so kind and gracious to do just that! Through June 30, 2016, you can get their Silhouette Flat Iron + a bottle of Argan Oil for just $39 shipped!
Here’s how to get both for just $39:
- Click here and add the Silhouette Flat Iron to your cart (you can choose from pink, turquoise, or black).
- The Argan Oil will automatically be added to your cart for free.
- Go to checkout and use coupon code MSM39GRAD and it will knock the price down to just $39.
- Shipping will be free and your total should be $39 at checkout.
Both of these together usually retail for $139 total… so this is a GREAT deal. And if you have similar results as me, I can tell you that it’s a REALLY, REALLY good deal!

I loved this, until mine cracked right down the middle! Boo!
Sorry if you already answered this, but anyway to just get the argon oil? I already have that exact straightener.
Supposedly the fab Kate Middleton uses that oil!
Thank you SO much! My straightener literally JUST broke yesterday and I found this post this morning! We are trying to stick to a budget, and a new $100 straightener was just not in the cards for me. I appreciate this greatly and have really enjoyed your website over the past several months. Thanks again!
This is an even better deal than the one I got 4 years ago! Just the flat iron was around $50 on sale! Great deal! This flat iron does a great job!
I just ordered through the link with the discount. The order went through and my card has been charged but I haven’t received an email confirmation… Has this happened to anyone else?
i am sorry I have tried several of the links it doesnt work, please help me I am a straw head.
I ordered this Sunday and then a day later NuMe sent an email out that the same deal is now $29! 🙁
The $29 deal does not include shipping, as far as I know (shipping is usually $12 — making this a better deal). If the email you got does include free shipping, please let me know so I can ask them for a better deal here!
You were right…..shipping is $12 making it $41. You win! 🙂
Whats better than Argon oil? Shampoo with argon oil in it… you have to try out Lush’s Jason and the argon oil bar shampoo – I have the same kind of hair that you do and this stuff is amazing! I usually only wash my hair every 3rd day my hair is never too greasy from putting too much product in my hair since I dont have to put anything extra in!
Totally in love with this…my hair is naturally curly and spend a lot of time with a straighter in my hand.. My aunt ordered one after reading your article and I was able to use hers today.. well the end results were so great I ordered one for my mom and myself.. Thanks a Bunch.. 🙂
WOOHOO! This makes me SO happy!!
So I use argan oil and, yes, it is life changing! But I also add in Chi Miss Universe Blow Dry spray. It totally tops it all off and smells AMAZING!!!
Sorry, NuMe, but I’m not interested in a hair straightener. I just had the stylist use one on me, and when I came home my daughter said, “Mommy, you look like Grammie.” To which my husband replied, “…I wasn’t going to say anything.”
Curly hair for me, LOL!
Crystal, have you ever tried the Curly Girl hair regimen? I wonder if it would help. I do it with really cheap products like Suave- and Tressemme-naturals, so it can be easy on the wallet, and you don’t HAVE to have naturally curly hair to benefit. And I’m pretty sure argan oil is CG-approved. 🙂
Just ordered mine! I was in need of a new one! Thanks so much!!
I have the same problem only my hair is super curly, and the flat iron and Argan oil is a life saver. My tip for shampoo is to shop in the “ethnic” section. Currently using Carol’s Daughter and in love!
I have been using Argan Oil for over a year and a half as a moisturizer and hand lotion. You’ll never use lotion again, I promise!
Thank you for the review. I ordered it and used it this morning. Am I the only one who thinks putting the knob for heat choice and the on/off switch inside, next to the burning hot plates is poor design? Such a strange place for the settings’ switches.
I was blessed with hair that is like a horse’s tail (not the well taken care of horse – the one left in the pasture). LOL I have found that DermOrganics Shampoo and Conditioner (and the argan oil) helps to make it manageable. It is expensive in salons but Amazon has it reasonable priced.
Well, as you know, I have super thick, insanely curly hair, that is really dry. I have found the secret of using argan oil about 6 months ago. I don’t use it every day, because since I don’t use shampoo to wash my hair, it can get a little gunky. I’ve been doing the no-poo method for years and years. I think I read about it on your website, and I know you said you didn’t like doing the baking soda and vinegar thing. I actually only do that every other week now and just rinse my hair down with water in the shower every day. Curls get a little mangled at night. Not using shampoo and conditioner made the biggest difference for me. The other big change I made was to stop towel drying my hair. I used to wrap it up in a pile on my head and squeeze. Now, I just lay it on a towel that’s across my shoulders and let it air dry. It takes about 3 hours fogot it be fully dry, but it really doesn’t bother me. I’ll take wet hair over frizz hair any day. 🙂
I used to straighten my hair, and it eventually got damaged. I had to switch to air-drying and no straightening. My hair eventually recovered from the damage, but it is naturally frizzy with weird waves. I miss the way it used to look. Is this straightener good for your hair? Does the oil prevent damage?
I ordered this but never received an email or anything for confirmation. I’ve even tried to login, reset my password, etc….
Did anyone else have this problem? It makes me a little nervous since I put in all my information..
Can you email Brian on my team (brian@moneysavingmom.com) and we’ll put you in touch with our contact at Nume so they can help you out? Thanks!
Hi Christy,
I want to thank you for being our customer. My name is Cynthia and I handle the Marketing for NuMe. Can you provide me your order # so I can forward it to our Customer Service Department?
Thanks,

I don’t have an order number. I never received any email or confirmation after I put in all my info and submitted it. Is there any way you can look it up by name? I just want to make sure that it is ordered. ?
Hi Christy,
Can you provide me your email address as well.
Thanks,
Cynthia

Hi Cynthia,
I have been trying to buy this flat iron for a couple days now. I am unable to add it (or anything else) to my cart. Could you please provide me with a link?
Thank you,
Sophia
Does the straightener come with instructions on how to get the beachy waves look?
It does have some instructions, but you can also find videos on YouTube, too.
I don’t mean to be a deal killer but yesterday I was in my local Marshalls and they had this exact Flat iron(without the oil) for $24.99 and the culing wand $19.99 and there were a lot of them.
Woohoo! Thank you so much for this hot tip!!
Yes, I told my teen daughter it was so ironic that I read this post and just a few hrs later at Marshalls and saw them there. She asked how much they were and I told her $24.99 and she about fell off her chair. I had no idea how much they sell for. She had me take her there (she thought I must have been looking at some kind of knock offs) and was thrilled to find them at the price I told her. I bought one for her and me as well as the curling wand she had been wanting. I have had the same type of hair Crystal described my whole life (thick and unruly) however I have used straighteners for a while for frizz (I live in humid FL). Sadly the past year on and off my hair has been thinning at an alarming rate with no known medical cause and the texture is awful as well…Hoping this Nume can work wonders with what I have to work with 😉
WOOHOO!
Did you find the Nume Silhouette at Marshall’s? I recently found a Nume Fashionista at TJ Maxx for $24.99 and I’m wondering if it’s the same flat iron. Does anyone know the difference?
Just ordered using your link! My friend has a Nume and loves it! Cant wait to get mine!
YAY!!!
I just tried to get this deal and it is charging me $30.00 shipping. How do I get free shipping?
Do you live in another country or are you in the US? Did you use the coupon code?
I live in the US. I did use the coupon code. I will try again.
I just tried again and it worked. Thanks.
Oh good!
I can def relate to the thick hair struggle. Thick straight hair is not always as great as it sounds! It’s a lot of work to not look like Cousin It. LOL. I almost never wear it down because it’s just too much.
Haha!! I have a tiny bottle of that oil (that came with my straightener) sitting in my medicine cabinet, unopened, because I had NO idea what to do with it. Glad I happened upon this post!! I’ll definitely give it a try now. 🙂
WOOHOO!!!
Just an FYI– I am not a fan of this company. After placing your order, you will get multiple promo emails a day. I have unsubscribed numerous times with no luck. I ordered a curling wand from them, and have found that it overheats and potentially damages the hair. Their return policy is pretty much a non-return policy– they charge you to make a return. I’d proceed with caution if you’re not 100% sold on knowing you will like these products.
Thanks so much for letting us know. I really appreciate it.
Hi Ellen,
Thanks for reaching out. We are sorry to hear that your experience with NuMe, and we do appreciate you as being our customer. My name is Cynthia and I handle the Marketing for NuMe. Can you kindly provide me your email address so I can forward your contact to our email marketing department and customer service department.
Thanks,
Cynthia
I also have been cursed with ridiculously thick, moderately dry hair. The top half of my hair is stick straight. The bottom half is uncontrollably wavy. Try getting that to mesh together. It’s awful!
I started using argan oil earlier this year and I did notice a difference in the appearance and manageability of my hair. After finishing the bottle I bought joboba oil because it was significantly cheaper than argan oil. My hair just does not respond to joboba oil. I’m switching back to argan. It is worth the money.
Thanks for the great tip! Awesome deal. Thank you!
I just ordered this & can’t wait to try it out! I’ve been wanting a flat iron for a while now & with summer coming & the frizziness of my hair increasing, this is the best offer for me. Looking forward to the day it comes! ?
Just curious how hot the straightener gets? I’ve found that if it doesn’t get very hot it takes a long time to straighten my frizzy hair.
Welcome to the “change your hair, change your life” club! 🙂
OGX (Organix) has a great line of argan oil products. I have a few of those and the kukui oil styling cremes. My hair is thick too, but it’s unruly thick as in it knots within MINUTES of me brushing it. Argan and kukui help a ton!
This is a great deal! My flat iron is not working as well lately (taking twice a long to straighten my hair and not getting as hot). I am for sure going to be ordering one! Thanks
Crystal, with dry hair or silky hair, you’re beautiful and you are a blessing! 🙂
Aw, thank you so much for your sweet words of encouragement!
I’ve used argan oil daily for years as the sole moisturizer for my face. It’s terrific. I use it in my girls’ hair sometimes (curly, dry); but I prefer not to use it in mine, as my hair tends to be oily already.
My flat iron fell off the side of the bathroom sink six months ago and broke. I had been waiting for a deal because good quality ones are so expensive. Followed the link and bought one in pink. Thanks for negotiating this great price!
Just curious- how long does it take you to straighten your hair with this? I’ve used different brands of straighteners & some take 1 hr, some take 20 mins. I know everyone’s hair is different, but if you have THICK hair, that gives me an indication. I’d love to get it, but I don’t have an hour to work on my hair…
If you divide it in sections (I’d recommend pulling up half and doing the bottom section and then the top section), it is quicker. I’d say it can definitely be done in 15 minutes or less. I really don’t have patience for spend much more than 15-20 minutes total on my hair every 3-4 days (5-7 minutes for blow-drying and 10-12 minutes for straightening/curling).
Crystal, have you tried the no-poo method? Not as gross as it sounds. Baking soda and water instead of shampoo and cider vinegar and water instead of conditioner. You can google for real instructions and recipes for different hair types. I was skeptical but it changed the texture of my hair so much! Much softer and manageable and it still gets clean!
I haven’t… I’ve had friends with mixed results so I’ve been too scared to try!!
The hardness/softness of your water seems to make a BIG difference. It’s pretty awful for my hair — it ends up greasy AND dry all at the same time. (Yuck!) I’ve been using a concoction I found on Pinterest, of liquid castile soap (I use Kirk’s because it’s inexpensive on Vitacost) and coconut oil, followed by a (diluted) cider vinegar rinse, and I love it.
Thanks so much for mentioning that!
I had a friend who tried this and it worked for a couple years and then her hair started breaking off and falling out. She is on year 2 of repair now. She had blogged about how wonderful it was and came back to tell everyone to stop.
Yes! This happened to me as well. I had to cut all my hair off
I’ve heard bad things about the baking soda and vinegar. It messes with the ph level in your hair and causes damage.
As someone who used to use and love this method, be careful! I did this for a few years. My hair looked great for a while, but eventually it ruined my hair. I had to get a super short pixie cut, and now two years later my hair is “healed.” I found out later that this is really common with the no-poo method.
Love how this makes my hair look and feel!
The flat iron was disastrous to my hair – basically melted it off. Talked to my hair stylist about it and was told that it happens all the time 🙁
Yay! Just bought one! Can you tell me the blog that discusses putting outfits together/fashion?
Thank you so much! I just ordered one! I can relate to the straw hair! Somewhere I saw a blog on fashion/putting together outfits that you suggested. I can’t remember now. Do you know what I’m talking about? Thanks! (Not dressing your truth but a cute blog)
Maybe it’s this? http://www.puttingmetogether.com/
I remember that Crystal mentioned this one before, and I’ve looked at it a few times. 🙂
Yes! Thank you so much for posting that link!
I had been in need of a new flat iron since mine broke a couple of months ago. I hadn’t replaced it yet because the good quality ones are very expensive. This is a great deal! Thank you for negotiating it for us ? I just ordered one through your link!
Your hair looks great in that video! I don’t have the same hair issues as you, but I am tempted to buy this!
What if you hair isn’t like straw, but it is still frizzy? Like the top layers curl just enough to frizz out but the bottom layers don’t? Thanks for the recommendation, and wow! what a deal! 🙂
This could be my hair that you just described! I never know what to do with it since it is two different textures and layering it just makes the difference all the more obvious.
Crystal, did you see the piece the CBS Sunday morning show did on Argan oil? It was interesting and funny. The process of extracting Argan oil involves the, umm… ‘waste’ of tree-climbing goats. 🙂
No, I didn’t! So interesting! Maybe, um, I don’t want to know! 🙂
I’m curious if anyone has fine hair and successfully uses argan oil? I’d love to hear thoughts. 🙂
I have fine (pretty dry) hair and I love using argan oil and use it almost every day. I’ve tried a couple different brands (some as cheap as the Suave “blend”) and they all seemed to work about the same. It moisturizes without adding weight or a greasey look. This and La Batiste dry shampoo have changed the way I look at my hair in the last 2 years. I hated my hair for years and almost always wore it up, but I’m usually happy with it down now. I use the dry shampoo for volume for evening events or if I wear it up and unwashed on day #2.
Thanks for the input! I wondered about it being oily as most products tend to have that effect on my hair. I hate wearing my hair down right now so hopefully it works for me.
I have fine, regular (not really dry or really oily) hair, and I honestly don’t notice too much of a difference with Argan oil. It does smell nice and maybe it makes my hair shinier (maybe?), but it wasn’t a life changer for me.
I read a ton of reviews on Amazon before I tried it and the general consensus is that it is life changing, so I am probably in the minority.
I have been using NuMe styling products, shampoo, and conditioner for years and love them. My hair has never looked better and they offer some great deals periodically! I like NuMe better than many salon products.
Yay!! Thanks so much for the review!
I am curious, I have really thick, straight with absolutely no body hair. It’s not dry though. It might actually be considered oily. Do they have products for my hair type?

You can’t post all that and then NOT include a picture of you with straight hair! 🙂
If you click on the video link, you can see an example of what it looks like!
I’ve been using Orlando Pita Argan Oil for a long time. It was advertised to reduce hair drying time, and I was very skeptical about that claim, but it really does make your hair dry faster!
Oh! Thanks so much for that tip!!
