I’m not making this up!
I was just out for a quick grocery shopping trip when I passed a nearby gas station and my eyes nearly popped out of my head. I must be seeing things. Surely that's not really right.
But no, the sign was very clearly advertising gas for $1.99 a gallon.
$1.99 a gallon!!
Now that is certainly something to get excited about! With many prices on the rise, it is exceptionally nice to see gas prices falling… and falling at such a rapid rate! Wow!
I've heard that gas prices are close to the lowest in the nation where we live but I'm curious if anyone else has seen gas go below $2/gallon in their area? If not, hopefully you'll be seeing it soon!

I live in NC, but saw this on our local news in a “gas price” story. They were talking about places in the MidWest that had prices under 2 bucks. That’s awesome!
I for one can’t wait for the prices to get lower here in NC. Especially since I drive a car that must use premium gas! Send that cheap gas our way, please!!

-
We are around 2.70 here in the Seattle area
-
$2.09 in Minnesota!
-
NE Oklahoma is about 2.05, but that’s for the cruddy 10% ethanol blend that’s everywhere here now. It’s in almost all gas stations and cuts our mpg’s by as much as 30% for some people. I lose about 5 mpg’s in my Civic. So, we have to pay anywhere from 10 to 25 cents more for 100% gasoline. Not sure who the current form of ethanol is really helping. Definitely not us w/o flex fuel cars whose normal cars get gunked up over time from the “acceptable amount” of up to 10%. Sigh.
-
Here in NW Indiana it’s still at $2.50. As exciting as it seems, the dropping gas prices will have a negative effect on the economy in the long run. We can’t win!

It’s $2.13 in central Texas right now. The bad news is that this is the beginnings of a financial tsunami. It very well may shoot up to $7 a gallon within a year or two. Sorry to put a damper on the excitement, but I want folks to be informed.
This is what I’ve read anyway. Because of the bailout and the economy, threatening recession or depression, these low prices are like the beginnings of a tsunami where the tide goes way out, the water is sucked from the beach. Then the power of the wave is gathered together and comes barrelling in, devouring everything on land. We need to be hopeful, but also prepare ourselves for financial hardship to come. Please read one of Ron Paul’s websites or some of Chuck Baldwin’s articles. Baldwin is running for President, by the way. 🙂
God bless you all! Gina

$2.14 in Virginia Beach, VA

I’m in NC too (like some above). I don’t know that we’ll ever get below the $2 mark, though I did buy gas for $2.44 yesterday–and felt pretty good about it, relatively speaking!
But NC has an automatic gas tax increase, which our lovely state legislators refuse to repeal or even delay, regardless of natural disasters, economic recessions, or any other hardship on the people. The state gas tax goes up on a regular basis several times a year, so even if the price of oil drops, it will never reach the same lows it has in the past. Got to continue to feed the bloated and not-accounted-for DOT budget, you know. -
$2.69 in north-central Pennsylvania. Which is a big improvement over the $3+ gas we’ve had until just a couple weeks ago. I’ll keep hoping that we eventually drop below the $2 mark too!

Gas here in NW Ohio is 2.20. Don’t think it is going to stay this low too much longer. My husband was saying the oil companies will be lowering production next month causing more demand and you know what that means…higher gas prices. We’ll have to wait and see.
-

Still $2.69 here in PA. The only way to get it cheaper right now is to go to the grocery stores offering gas discounts. Sigh. And to think that I can recall when it was under $1 a gallon!
-
$2.62/gal unleaded in sunny Phoenix. And to think, I thought that was a fabulous deal!
-
Last night my husband and I filled up fro $1.92 gl.
We live in the Houston area and my husband works for a software company that products services for the oil/gas industry. I never thought I’d come to the day where I didn’t want to see gas prices drop – but being that I am a SAHW and my husband brings home all the income I’m scared to see the prices fall so much…
If prices continue to fall and gas/oil industry does not make money on the gasoline, people, such as my husband will lose their jobs because the gas/oil industry will not want to pay for “extra” services.
So, yes, I’m loving these cheap gas prices, but very scared as well…
-
Dear Crystal,
In a certain part of Ohio it was 1.99 too.
Lulu

Sometimes it stinks to live in the Chicago area…we’re still around $3.25.

We are in Hurst, which is right outside of Fort Worth (where we work) and I’ve seen it as low as $2.29 close to downtown FW.
