Any tips for minimizing the ” gamey” flavor in some meats like venison? I purchased some grass fed beef that has a bit of a gamey flavor lol if that’s a word. My families having a hard time adjusting. So far if I make chili or taco meat the spices seem to mask it, but Im looking for more ideas. Thanks so much!

While the menu as listed is healthy, it seems very low in protein. I’m a mom with three kids who exercises 5x/week and I need around 80-90 grams of protein a day. Pretty sure the *minimum* for someone sedentary (which as a young mom there’s no way Gretchen could be considered that!) is around 45 and I have a hard time ever seeing how this diet even gets you that amount. There’s lots of options for adding protein that are still frugal…for me boneless skinless chicken fits the bill. I buy and freeze when it’s on sale and I marinate & grill a large package every week for wraps, salads and just grabbing a slice as a snack. But there’s also nuts, tofu, beans and grains.

I totally see what you’re saying SDR – this menu can look very low in protein since there are several meals that lack noticeable sources of protein. That was my first observation too.
Upon looking closer, here are 10 meals plus cereal if it’s fortified and leftovers/meals with family that do contain obvious sources of protein though (which would give her 16 meals). So that’s at least 2 meals per day that have protein.
I’m betting that some of it depends on how she pairs things up – a serving of venison, one egg and a standard size glass of milk would give her 45g of protein. Similarly, a serving of chicken and another of mac and cheese would give her noticeably over that 45g for another day, even with boxed mac and cheese.
I guess my understanding is that as long as we get what we need over the course of a week, we’re doing pretty good! And I’m betting there’s some one out there who can comment more on this more intelligently than I can?
Women in particular are notorious for not getting enough protein and iron in their diets so this was a great comment!
