Jon Acuff is one of the most inspirational people I follow online. Not only does he make me laugh, think, and ponder, but he challenges me to action. It’s not enough to know what I’m about, Jon motivates me to do something about it — like going out and punching fear in the face.
Jon’s latest book, Start, is an amazing book. And I don’t say that lightly.
It’s easy to read since Jon has a way of drawing you in with his words and stories. But it’s not an “easy read” since Jon won’t let you lounge in your recliner and ponder your world-changing ideas for years on end. No, he makes you want to jump up and go make something happen.
My hands down favorite part of Start was Jon’s vulnerability. His candid stories of his own insecurity and failure will help you to know that you’re not alone in your crazy fears or mistakes. He’s been there, too. He gets you. And his stories will give you courage and hope.
I had high expectations for Start because I knew that Jon and the Dave Ramsey team had poured days, weeks, months, and years into it. But it far exceeded my expectations. It wasn’t just good; it was great.
Now, I do want to mention that if you’re looking for a clearly laid out game plan for launching a business or idea, this book is probably not the best one to pick up. It’s more an inspirational message than a step-by-step how-to. That said, I truly believe everyone can learn from and be inspired by Jon’s message.

I’m nearly done reading the book and love it! We had the pleasure of hearing Jon speak with Dave Ramsey when we were invited by Dave’s team to hear him speak to a group of FPU coordinators. What an awesome experience! We bought the book that night and I haven’t been able to put it down. It’s a must read and must share.

I agree, “Start” was great. It’s always helpful to hear the real-life stories from people who are where I want to be, because it gives me hope. 🙂 Now I need to read “Quitter.”

I’m right in the middle of reading this book, and I am getting so much out of it. Thanks for sharing it on your blog, as I know lots of other people would benefit enormously from reading it, too!

I LOVE this book! I have highlighted so many great points that have hit home for me.
I am not quite done. I was so excited to see Jon with Dave Ramsey at Entreleadership in Cincinnati this month.
I had been reading your posts about Jon Acuff for years and was super excited to hear him in person. I kept telling my friends, “Wait until you hear Jon Acuff”. Once he started taking they started texting me how excited they were to have found a new favorite speaker!
Thanks Crystal!

I just read chance by Karen Kingsbury which is a really good book. It is a fast read. The other book I read was before I die. This is a very good book about a young girl who is dying of cancer and how she chooses to spend the rest of her days.

I just finished reading Start and have to say it was so very inspirational! I loved it so much I gave it to my oldest son to read. He’ll be done with jewelry school in about 18 months and I want him to continue his dream. He’s really enjoying it. Right now I’m reading Quitter and although I don’t have a day job I want to quit I’m really enjoying it. I agree that Jon’s vulnerability really makes the book. He not only tells of his failures but how he overcame them and the lessons he learned from them.

Jon is one of my favorite people to follow online, too. He’s hilarious and helpful. I have found that as I continue to follow people online (via blogs, social media, etc.), I get just as excited about their successes as I would my own friends and family. I’ve followed Jon’s story for a long time, and he and his family are an inspiration.

I totally get that! When I found out Jon made the New York Times list, I about squealed out loud. I was so, so happy for him!

Just heard Dave Ramsey interview Jon about this book on the Entreleadership podcast. Sounds amazing–thanks for the second endorsement. 🙂
