I’m so excited to be starting the She Reads Truth Lent study today. I feel like this study is coming at just the time when my soul is learning to breathe… And it will be just the oxygen needed to fill me up with the reminders of God’s goodness and great faithfulness to me.
I’m still struggling to get in bed by 10 p.m. and didn’t make it again last night. However, being intentional about development a more consistent bedtime as part of the Go to Bed Early Challenge is making a big difference — even if I’m not hitting my goals most days.
I’m winding down earlier, I’m getting more sleep, I’m getting better sleep, I’m feeling more rested, and I’m feeling a lot less frantic and a lot more calm and quieted in my soul. Yay!
Are you joining me for the Go to Bed Early Challenge? If so, leave a comment on this post to let me know how you did with your go-to-bed goal last night.
We’re in this together… And if you didn’t hit your goal, that’s okay! Give yourself grace, don’t beat yourself up, and know that you can try again tomorrow!

Well, after the weekend and lack of diligence on my part for every part of planning I had started to put in place with Making Over My Mornings course, I can officially say that I need a do-over. Thanks for sharing your struggles and successes and encouraging us to pick up on a new day! It is great to read a real-time challenge of a fellow mom. 😉

I almost made it, but my college son started texting me, and there was no way I was going to cut him off!

Close but not quite – was in bed by 10:40 and up by 5:45. So not too bad…

I love your Scopes and motivation that you share on there! This month I have joined you in your challenge because I really wanted to start getting up earlier to have quiet time with the Lord before my son wakes. If I wake up when he does, I am often grumpy! Getting to bed earlier has helped so much, and I feel like I’ve been sleeping better too.

I’ve been struggling with this challenge because of sick kids. Last night our daughter was up later with an earache and our son woke up at 1:30 with a cough. However, aiming for an early bedtime and starting to wind down earlier have helped me be ready for sleep–even if it doesn’t happen! 🙂

I think I need to post about trying to stay up LATER. ? My son wanted to watch a movie last night, and I managed to stay up until almost 9:00 and we finished the whole thing (I’m not usually a movie-watcher). The good thing is that I did not turn on my phone when I went to bed. No temptation to “just check a few things” before going to sleep. ?

Still struggling to get to bed on time too. I’ve had a bit of a cold and I know I need the rest. I forgot all about She Reads Truth. I did the Advent study and it was really good.

This retirement thing is still a learning process! After 30 years of a 2nd shift breadwinner… We rarely went to bed before midnight. We homeschooled in part so they would know their daddy! No one ever called us before 9 if they actually wanted to speak to someone. Plus we were on the volunteer fire/ambulance department for over 20 years.
Part of our retirement goal is a healthier sleep pattern. The chickens we got last year have been a great help to that goal: they are up with the daylight, no matter when that is and they want out NOW!
The only thing is, we are still doing crazily different things each day. By the time I wind down after my BSF evening with the K-2 children, it is often 1 am. He leads a men’s discussion group 40 minutes away the next night, and it takes him a while to relax after getting home after 10p. We have cut way back on the middle of the night responses on emergencies (unless they are right in our neighborhood and we can get there faster than the trucks.)
Our big challenge is FB and reading. We take turns on the computer, and both of us have a tendency to get caught up in our reading and hate to put the book down! (Fiction and nonfiction both!) The amazing thing is that we sometimes get to bed by 9 or 10. The sad thing is that it is usually because we are exhausted.
We just have to accept that life is a continual learning process and just when you have one season down, lo and behold! We are in the next season already! I enjoy your challenges but I must admit that I didn’t even try to keep count on the 500 things declutter challenge: we are still sorting through papers from kids who have moved out, parents who have passed on, and 42 years of a busy marriage and family!! This month has certainly passed that if you were to count each separate item recycled, put in the donation box, or trashed!
Congratulations on your decision to cut back on your busy-ness level this year; we tend to congratulate people on running themselves into the ground, when moderation is what needs to be more appreciated!
