Welcome to Frugal Photo Friday! This month I am partnering with Rebekah from SimplyRebekah.com. Each Friday we are sharing pictures of simple ways that we save money. This week’s themes are home and decor.
I know, I know. I should not be writing a post on frugal decor. Because if you’ve been around here for any length of time, you know that I have just about zero skills in the home decor department.
I can gush over beautiful pictures of other people’s homes, I can appreciate my friends’ home decor finesse, but when it comes down to trying to decorate my own home, I’m a pretty hopeless case.
But since I committed to do this series, I thought all week long and came up with a few things to show you… bear with me, because it’s pretty slim pickings. 🙂
There are always amazing photo canvas deals floating around the internet and they are a fantastic way to pull off a big wall-hanging on a budget. I took advantage of one of these to blow up a photo I took on that amazing cruise my husband and I took. This photo hangs in our beach-themed bathroom and is a constant reminder to me of a special memory.
{Though I have to admit that my somewhat OCD self still obsesses over the fact that one of the beach chairs is crooked and overturned. I cannot believe I didn’t even notice it — until after I got the picture blown up. Oh well, it’s a reminder that even in the beautiful things in life, nothing’s ever perfect, you know?}
And this is my favorite wall in our home. I smile every time I look at the beautiful faces of my children and I am reminded that the years are fleeting as I see how much they’ve grown up since we had these pictures done late last year (the one with them in green is with their cousin and was taken two years ago — amazing to see how they’ve grown up since then!)
Photo deals abound on the internet or in the newspaper. We usually use a coupon or a Groupon voucher to get a great deal and I only get professional photos done of everyone once a year.
You can purchase frames at the dollar store (you can paint them to match your decor, if you’re handy like that!) or with a coupon at Hobby Lobby or Michael’s. Then, just switch out the photos every year or six months — and you have wall art on a dime.
Oh and that Family decal? I purchased it with a Groupon voucher. Love it!
Now it is your turn to share the simple ways that you save. Share your link below or on Twitter and Instagram using the hashtag #FrugalPhotoFriday. All of the link-up details and themes for each week can be found here.

Pictures, pictures and more pictures! Honestly, I can’t seem to get enough of them. But it must be in the raising because if you walked into my grandmother’s house you can barely see a space of wall for all the pictures of children, grandchildren and great-grands and my momma’s house isn’t much better! But truthfully, what better way to decorate your home? I thoroughly enjoy seeing and remembering the different stages of each child’s life daily. 🙂
A goal/desire of mine is to have a generational wall with pictures from the past 3-4 generations. I really want our children to know who they came from, who they look like and how important generational family is. (This goal is currently on hold due to our tiny basement home…but one day!)

I haven’t always decorated our house. But I’ve really enjoyed the many fabulous frugal minded blogs that help encourage and show how to make so many fun things for the home. I was able to make the majority of our decorations this fall. It was so much fun. 🙂 And very easy on the pocket book. 🙂

I’d love to hear some of your favorite frugal decor blogs, if you’d have time to share!
Tabitha says
I’d love to share. 🙂
My favorites are myblessedlife.net, theshabbynest.blogspot.com and homestoriesatoz.com.
I’ve done a few things from Myra at my blessed life and find tons of inspiration at the other two blogs.
The Shabby Nest hosts a Frugal Friday for home decor and crafts.

Thanks so much! Love Myra, the others are new to me!

You’re welcome my friend! I’m sure you’ll find some great ideas! Have a great weekend.

Crystal! Did you see that Aldi is doing photos now for 7cents a print? I got an email about it this week and seeing a post about photos made me want to tell you! I don’t have anything I need to get printed but as soon as I do I plan to try their services!
Crystal says
No, I hadn’t heard… must check that out the next time I’m there! Thanks for the tip!
Denise says
I just pinned their photo website on my pinterest decor board. I tagged you personally and money saving mom 🙂

Thanks so much!

I don’t think you’ll find anything in stores about it, but here’s the link from the email:

I think it’s by mail only. Their website seems a little funky to me now, but it could be my computer. Or maybe it’s just because it’s new?

I think your decor looks great! I like that the chair is overturned in the picture – it gives it some character. 🙂
Need A Nap2 says
I didn’t even notice the upside down chair! 🙂 What a great memory and sounds like it matches your bathroom well.
I was very OCD about our oldest daughter’s 6 mos picture, it was for Christmas and I couldn’t believe when we picked it up that she had a spit bubble on her face! Not as noticeable in wallet or 3 1/2 by 5 but it looked huge in the 8×10. After 3 more children, I just think it’s cute and laugh about it. 🙂
Kaui @ Thrifty Military Mommy says
It’s totally not necessary to laugh. As a professional organizer and Interior Designer I’ve seen many many places that were laughable. Places that had absolutely no paint on the wall, nothing matched at all, and everything was cluttered. Your place matches, things appear to match (even though I haven’t seen everything), and it is clean. You’ve done very well!

Home decor is not my speciality either. I try hard to make our home look nice but I know I am not gifted in this area. I need to get some updated pictures of my kids on the wall. The ones we have up are about 4 years old. I have taken plenty of photos I just haven’t gotten the photos into the frames. I really like the family decal on the wall. I will have to look at my dollar tree or watch for a sale on them online.

Okay, I was wondering where that fourth child came from! 🙂 thanks for explaining.
Crystal says
Yes, I figured it might be good to explain that one. 😉

i love your pictures. ive noticed that the dollar tree sells similar wall decals (rub on) like your family one…family..friends..etc..love live laugh type of stuff…incase people want to pick them up while they’re looking for frames!!!
Crystal says
Ooh!!! Thank you for that hot tip. I must check the next time I’m there… never even thought to look!
Need A Nap2 says
Target and Kohl’s have some too, I’ve also seen them at Hobby Lobby.
Cris says
I just saw some today at dollar tree, they had family, friends and other phrases. They were a big size too! Saw them in the kitchen accessories aisle.

It’s so funny how alike we are in some areas! This is the first week I committed to do this series, and when I looked back and saw the theme, I laughed out loud. There’s not much to choose from in my home either! But I went with it anyway and am actually really pleased with the final post. 🙂
Crystal says
I dunno… I think you’re a whole lot more crafty and creative than me. Just sayin’… 🙂

I’ve decided it isn’t so much that I CAN’T decorate my house as I just really don’t like having a lot of stuff. It’s made me feel much more content with our home and our style.
Hobby Lobby has frames 50% off frequently. We had a very large wall that I decorated by spraypainting nine half-off frames from Hobby Lobby and filling them with scrapbooking paper. I can’t recall for sure but I think I found the idea on your website for using scrapbook paper. We always get lots of compliments on it and it was very inexpensive to decorate such a large space.
Crystal says
Love your wall idea!

Love the family photo wall. I am excited since my husband made me picture shelves based off a pin on pinterest. I just have to get motivated to paint them. I also got a huge family themed frame on clearance at target and several inexpensive black photo frames from Ikea, so now I just have to get our new family photos printed, and as I said paint those shelves, and I too will have a family wall. (oh and good luck with your race I am guessing its this weekend) 🙂

Yes, it’s tomorrow morning. The kids are running with Jesse in a half mile fun run, too. They are SO stoked. I love that we’re doing this together and that because Jesse and I have started running, they are so excited about running, too. 🙂
