It’s Frugal Friday over on my other blog. After a big week with lots of unexpected curve balls and exciting blessings, I’m a bit brain-fried so I skipped out on sharing any wise words. But you’ll certainly want to check out the wealth of knowledge and practical tips shared by my readers. And we’d love to have you join in the fun by leaving your own tips, too.
We’re leaving today on a 10-day trip to visit family and go to a lake in Arkansas; we’re so excited as it’s been a long time since we’ve been on a family vacation!
I’ll still be blogging while I’m gone, though I’ll probably take a bit of a slower pace than usual. I’m going to be re-publishing a lot of the most popular posts from my old blog and will also pop in a share good deals here and there.
We’re rather spoiled because my minor car accident earlier this week damaged our car and it’s not safely drivable so we get a free rental car while we’re getting that situation worked out. And that means we get to take the free rental on vacation with us. Yay!
(I have to admit, I was not all that happy with someone backing into me and damaging our car and transmission–especially right before we were going to leave on vacation and right after we’d just gotten our cars up and running again–but it has turned out to be a blessing in disguise. We get to take a more reliable vehicle on vacation and don’t have to worry about the possibility of breaking down somewhere, hopefully! I’m thanking God for His provision for us!)
Have a wonderful Friday!
Have a fun trip!
I live in Central Arkansas – about an hour north of Hot Springs. And it’s HOT, HOT, HOT here (supposed to be over 100 for the next several days) – so be prepared to spend a lot of time in the water! 🙂 Have fun and have a safe trip.
I wrote you some weeks ago about the Taco Bell/Colorado Rockies special…well, they’re still doing it all season.
4 hard tacos for $1.00 whenever the Rockies score 7 or more runs (doesn’t matter whether they win or lose)
I was a little shy about taking advantage of this promotion at first, but have lost that now — you’ll hear people casually mention it to each other (“tacos tonight — didja see the Rocks won?”), and the announcers are quick to publicize “cheap tacos!”
The ‘Rockies Special’ is good from 4-6 p.m. the day AFTER the Rocks score 7 runs.

Also, I wanted to pass on something King Soopers (the Colorado version of Kroger) has been doing — they’re offering ‘Grade B med’ eggs in a white carton that have been running $1.15 a dozen in my Denver area neighborhood – far and away the cheapest eggs I’ve found anywhere for some time.
Most people aren’t opening the cartons, because if they did, they’d find these eggs are NOT mediums — they’re usually much larger! Sometimes they’re a bit misshapen…the only reason I could figure out why they’re in ‘grade B’ anyways. Or the King Soopers people didn’t need that many X-large eggs?
I’ve also noticed that many cartons contain brown eggs (a definite price-boost in our neighborhood) and ‘EB’ marked eggs. Eggland’s Best? Said to be higher in vitamins and lower in cholesterol…for less than other egg costs?! Go figure.
Crystal –
Thought I would comment and let in you in on a great deal I came across. The Air Wick Freshmatic mini automatic starter kit that CVS had in last circular is on sale right now at Wal*Mart for $5. The coupon for $4 off is active until the end of this month, which makes these little freshners $1. The coupon is still available at:

Have a great time on your vacation, relax, and enjoy your time with your family!
Have a safe vacation! It is a good feeling to not have to worry about whether your car is going to make it or not!
I am so glad you are okay and you got a rental! My hubs was in an accident this week as well and he is okay.
Have fun at the lake, we live on a lake and it’s a blast!
Have fun on your vacation!
I remember you asking for frugal vacation suggestions, and I see you decided on a lake in Arkansas.
I don’t know if you are staying at DeGray Lake I suggested south of Hot Springs or somewhere else but if you are anywhere near that area (South of Hot Springs) you should consider spending a day at the Crater of Diamonds State Park. http://www.craterofdiamondsstatepark.com/
It is the only diamond-producing site in the world open to the public. It only costs $6.50-a / $3.50-c to search for diamonds. You can bring your own tools or rent some from them for around $7. They also have a fantastic pool for only $5.50-a / 3.75-c
The chances of finding a diamond are slim but it is still great fun for kids of all ages and a wonderful educational experience to boot. When we went last summer we didn’t find any diamonds but my 4 year old is still talking about how he knows he will find one “when” he gets to go back.
There are also some quartz mines around that I believe you are guaranteed to find something but I think they might be more expensive.
Again have a great time. I look forward to a future post on all the frugal vacation ideas you found to help us on our next trip.
Well, I hope you enjoy your vacation in Arkansas (My Home). I live near Hot Springs and we have lots of beautiful lakes. It is VERRYY HOT here now though. Make sure you stay cool.
