I have mentioned this before but I wanted to mention it again since some of you asked about reading programs for younger children yesterday. The Dolly Parton Imagination Library is a program available in many areas which offers a free book each month to children 5 and under.
It is not available in our area so I have no personal experience with it, but I have heard from many different readers that the books they send are good quality and that it's definitely worth your while to sign up if your area offers this program.
Check to see if this program is available in your area and read more details here.
Thanks for reminding me to post about this, Kimberly!

Good luck to you with the birth of your little one. Thank you for all your help with saving money. I have been sending your newsletters to my daughter. I have tried to teach her about sales and coupons, but with your newsletters, she finally got it. Thank you!

All the offers for free or nearly free items is great. But what is even better is the article about being debt free. My husband and I aren’t living shabby but we could always use a little more money for different things. We have come to the realization that it’s not our money, but the Lord’s. So we have made some adjustments on our spending. We have also take your advice on the envelope system. Although we haven’t started using it yet, we have started the process on tallying our spending for a month to really see where are money is going. Then we are going to use Dave Ramsey’s money system. So far, we are doing good with keeping track of all our spending, even the items we use to think were insignificant. Lord willing, we will be completely out of debt and able to give even more back to the work of the Lord. Thanks for the article and sharing your story of how thrifty you are. It has been a real blessing for our family. And I am proud to say that I am doing great at using things we already have and making our “grocery budget” stretch for an extra week or two!

Thanks for all of your time and effort in giving us all this wonderful info. It has been a lifesaver for our family. Now I’m teaching my mom, aunts, and cousins!!!!
Does anyone know the policy on how many Register Rewards you can use at Walgreens on one visit. I went today, and bought 6 items, and they would only let me use 1 RR!! That has never happened to me before!!!!!

We live in Nashville and my daughter has been getting books once a month since birth almost 2 years ago. All the books have been awesome and I can’t wait to see what she gets in these next 3 years. Definitely a program worth getting into and donating to as well.
Lisa Stalsworth says
In TN Dolly’s foundation pays for all the books, but if you are receiving books in any other state the expense of the books is being covered by some other organization.
My county just recently started this program and the Rotary Club is coordinating the funding. They are providing books to children from birth to age 5 through fundraising on their own.
Remember to donate if you can – the books cost about $36 per year!

I just found out about this a little over a month ago in my area. We have yet to get our first book, but I’m excited to see how it goes!

Were out here in Sunny CA and it just so happen to be in our area 😀 I signed both the kids up and about a month later they both got their first books!! our daughter is 3 and our son is 6 months…thats gonna be a lot of FREE books!! We HEART Dolly :D:D

Man, I wish we had it here in NJ. Sounds like a great program!
Michelle says
It does take awhile to get your first book when you first sign up. And as of last year or so, it’s not completely free because of lack of funding. I think we paid around $20 for a years worth of books. 3 books now come each quarter in the mail so it’s still a good deal and the money goes to a good cause.

My son was a member of this program in Georgia, and it was excellent! He received a hard cover book every month, and it was always a thrill for him.

We participated in this program in Sullivan County, TN, from the time our daughter was 2 years old until she reached 5. The books are GREAT! If you haven’t received anything from the program after signing up, check to make sure that it is available in your area. I think it is connected to your county somehow, so if your county doesn’t participate then you won’t be able to sign up. And can I just say thank you to Dolly Parton for this program! She’s an awsome lady IMO!

This is a wonderful program! My son has been receiving these books for about 2 years now and they are always hard cover age appropriate books. I also like that they are books I would not have normally picked out. One note, if you have kids the same age you will get two of the same book so you may just want to sign one child up.

I just posted about this program this morning, too!

This program is available in my area as well, through the public library but I actually signed up at the WIC office. The books, as others have said, are all hardcover and of very good quality. I get excited when they come in the mail, a new book to share with my little one! And really, where else can you get 60 books for free!?!
Jannelle says
This is a wonderful program. We have it in the Nashville, TN area and with 4 kids under 5, we get plenty of great books for FREE!! They are all hardback books and great stories. It is a MUST for all those who apply. I completely recommend it!
Sherri says
We participate in Memphis, TN and the books are great. Last month was a board book with touch and feel. We have gotten 3 or 4 books so far and love the program. I would encourage everyone to join if it is available in your area.

I was a Nanny for a little boy & this programmed was offered in his area & the books he got were great! People please pass this on to children who you know need books. Reading is so important these first few years of their life.
Vel says
We have this program in our area. We found out about it through the public library. It’s wonderful. We look forward to our new book coming in everything month. It’s a pretty varied assortment. Last month was The Gingerbread Man nursery rhyme but also it’s a touch and feel board book.

This program is really great!!! The books are not cheap things, they are very nice. There are some classics like “The Little Engine That Could” and some books that are just fun. My son is 2 1/2 and most of his favorite books to read are from this program.

I signed up through my local library, and each month a new hard back book arrives! It is based on where the child is developmentally on their age. I teach English, and these are some quality books!
Carrie says
We live in TN and are get these books for one of our little girls and will be signing up for our newborn twins. It is really nice program. You get free hardback books for your children each month. If you live in TN it is worth signing up for. It is FREE, no strings attached.
Elisarose says
It is not currently available where we live right now, but we have been a recipient of this at our former home. The books are VERY nice – the same ones you would buy at Barnes & Noble. They are either hard back or board books and very age-appropriate. This is a wonderful service!!
Martha says
This is a wonderful program. They send good quality hardcover books. My little boy was thrilled when he got one in the mailbox!
Sheri says
I was so excited when I found this over a year ago, and immediately signed up. I also signed up again in December and I have yet to receive anything from this program….so sad because it looked like SUCH a great program!
