Our pre-k class at school has these – great idea!!!
Little pea sized gravel works well too, my sons like to use their construction trucks and play at digging quarries and making roads.
Yes! We did this too! So much cheaper than the turtles, and portable, too. Though if a 10 yr old boy jumps on the lid, it just might crack and leak water when it rains…hmm, wonder how I know that…
Thanks so much for the feature, Crystal!
Thank you so much!! We will be going out and buying this this weekend!! He has been wanting a sandbox and this will be perfect 🙂
Extra bonus: Those under-the-bed storage boxes fit PERFECTLY into a little red wagon which brings it up to table height and makes it portable!
Oh that is a great idea! Ours has wheels on the box already but that is a great idea for when she is taller!!
I do the same thing when I set up water tables for my son. I fill several different size plastic tubs with water, as well as some little buckets and his play watering can and cups and he just plays away……. It is also fun to fill plastic bins with dried beans…of course kids need to be old enough not to put them in their nose or mouths…but my kids love scooping up beans with different size cups, funneling them through paper towel tubes….and it is so easy to clean up. Scoop up with your little broom and scooper and done!
I LOVE THIS! The storage bins I have for wrapping paper would be perfect (long and relatively shallow). So glad I saw this, I have been wanting to buy a little sandbox for my girls and this will be so much cheaper! Plus the cover will help keep bugs, cats, etc out! LOVE IT!!!!
Fun! Then you could put a lid on it and keep it safe from neighboring cats 🙂 I love this idea!
Yup- we got one that came with a lid to keep the critters out! It’s also great when it rains, b/c wet sand is HEAVY 🙂
