These look like they’d make great seed starters with a piece of plastic wrap over the top. Going to give this a try sometime!

It is the same in my zone 7 partial shade herb bed. I’ve had mine for 17 years.
Herbs really need more space for their roots than these shallow boxes. They will work to get them started but should be put in the ground or larger pots if they are to grow to mature plants.
