Brigette’s $27 Grocery Shopping Trip and Weekly Menu Plan for 6

We are going to be traveling some over the next couple of weeks, so my grocery spending was lower this week because we won’t be eating every meal at home. This gives us some wiggle room to eat out when we’re on the road.

And… to be perfectly honest, I am guessing there will be at least one impromptu grocery shopping trip made by my husband and children at some point before we leave to buy “necessities” for our vacation. That kind of grocery trip is funded straight from the “splurge” fund, and my husband has strict instructions to put the receipt somewhere that I will never, EVER see it. 🙂

I’ve heard you say many times you will never make tortillas. What changed your mind? 🙂

  • Lesa says:

I find your meal plans and grocery plans motivating and inspiring! We just picked blueberries so I plan to bake the Best Ever Blueberry Muffins this week. 🙂

  • Look at those beautiful Armenian cucumbers! How wonderful! I grow those too and they are awesome.

  • K says:

Would love to have your recipe for homemade tortillas. 🙂

Awesome that you can get free produce from your friend’s garden!

And what’s your friend’s secret for having such a great harvest?? I tried a garden this year and it was a big flop. LOL! I’ve had some success in the past, but nothing really fabulous. Never been able to grow tomatoes or any kind of melons. I guess some people just have a green thumb. 🙂

As always, you have great meals planned.

    • K,

Have you amended your soil: Manure, compost, etc.? That can help. Also, make sure you’re planting at the right time for your particular area. I live in a zone 9. I can put tomato plants in the ground in February, but someone in a zone 4 needs to plant them in the second half of May.

I always struggled with a garden before, but learning some things made a huge difference, and now I teach other people about gardening. Even seasoned gardeners have failures. Figure out what you can do better and keep trying!

  • Yay for people sharing their garden produce! 🙂

  • Sherry says:

Could you please post the recipe for the homemade tortilla’s? Love to see your shopping trips and meal plans. Very inspiring! Thank you 🙂

  • Trish says:

We have tried container gardening for the first time ever. I had some good looking tomatoes, but my dog ate them all just as they began to ripen. She ate them all, so apparently they were tasty.

Here is my menu plan for this week:
