Zaycon Update: I promised you last week that I would let you know what I thought of my Zaycon order, and I have to tell you – I am HOOKED! 🙂 The chicken is so much fresher and better-tasting than what we have gotten used to, and the whole ordering online/picking up experience was super easy, quick and painless (I didn’t even have to get out of my car!).
Obviously, the main attraction for me was the price – it’s hard to beat $1.69/lb for boneless, skinless chicken breasts! You do have to purchase 40lbs minimum, and since it is fresh, it needs to be packaged/frozen/taken care of pretty soon after you pick it up – so it does require a little bit of work. 🙂
If you have a pick-up location in your area, I would definitely recommend it. I know I plan on buying all my chicken this way from now on!

I am glad to see how healthy your food / meals are. A lot of deal / coupon sites get all this cheap food that is barely food!
BTW, we get Turkey Bacon at Walmart and it is the same price regularly as what you got the Butterball for with coupons.
Thanks for the review of Zaycon. I’m wondering, though, if the chicken is “enhanced” with chicken broth?
It’s fairly difficult to find a good price on minimally processed, retained-water-only b.s.c.b. around here so I stock up at the store that carries it when they have a sale.
I’d love to know whether or not the Zaycon chicken would send my blood pressure skyrocketing. I wouldn’t want 40# of the wrong type, kwim?
Aha! I didn’t realize that info was on their website. And it’s the un-salty kind-yay!
I had sticker shock yesterday at Walmart when one dozen large eggs was $3.78! The larger eggs were as much as $4.28. Needless to say, I decided we could live without more eggs this week! Thankfully Walgreens has them on sale for $1.29 this week; I will be going into town (1-1/2 hours away) anyway and will pick some up. (We are in Arkansas.)
I paid $3.10 for 1 dozen large eggs today. Thanks for sharing 🙂
Eggs at my SAMs and Costco (Alabama) are $ 2.00 for an 18 ct
I heard on NPR that it going to get much worse before it is over. They said July will be the worst. The news report said that in order to keep up with demand eggs will have to be imported. That is liquid eggs for commercial use as I understood it. Ours price went from 1.69 to 2.29 at Aldi in one week. We don’t use a lot of eggs with just two of us but it did make me pause before buying them this week. Now I think I should have gotten more than two since they will surely be more every week.
At Wal-Mart yesterday (in eastern OR) eggs were about $4.50 for 18 ct. Can’t wait for our chickens to start laying this summer !
Egg prices are up here too, but I was able to get 18 ct medium eggs for $1.79 last week. Fortunately I dont eat a lot of eggs so the price increase doesnt bother me much. I’ll get some whenever they are on sale. You got a great deal on the bagged cheese – my stores never have great deals like that.
