I love that the bribe for good behavior was yogurt. I’m impressed! My kids would probably insist on chocolate. 🙂 One store with my 3 littles (4 and under) stresses me out. You’re a rock star!

Julia, here is a venison roast recipe my family loves. You can use beef roast too.
One can golden mushroom soup
Then One can of water
One pkg of onion soup mix
One pkg brown gravy. Mix these together. Put roast in crockpot. Season as desired. Pour mixture over roast. Can add baby carrots and quartered potatoes and some onion and mushrooms if family likes. Cook on low 6-8 hours. It’s sooo good.

Thank you!!

Thank you for giving weights and amounts for each purchase! It helps me to compare what I am spending on food.
I’m thankful for Panera Bread in our valley that gives their day old bread to our church for free distribution after church! We get to eat some very special breads that I would not be able to spend money on.
Grocery Outlet is my first choice in my valley. It has some higher end , natural and organic products that are overstock, close outs or close to expiration. I get some good deals! My receipt tells me how much I save compared to regular retail. I aim at half off savings. I often come pretty close!
Thank you for sharing! Especially for the amounts!
Brigette says
You are welcome! We used to get free bread from Panera at our church when we lived in MI – it was SO nice! Even though I rarely eat gluten, I loved that I always had free bread in the freezer for the rest of the family. Grocery Outlet sounds like my kind of place! I am so glad you have a great discount store like that. 🙂

These stores are even better when you build relationships with the owners and employees! I know I love it when I can greet my customers at my store with recognition. I know what things they like to make and I can show them something new that might work for them.
At my Sprouts I ask the produce guy, Hey Sal, what’s good today? He will point me towards the bargains. He knows I like tart fruit, he likes sweet. He will give me a sample to taste. One day, it was kiwi berries! We really like them! Or, sometimes, I come in late and I see wimpy lettuce, he will go in the back and bring out some new stuff for me. Sometimes, the fruit looks good, but has no flavor. He will tell me those things.

And P.S. – I think you’re a rock star for taking 4 kiddos to 6 stores! Way to go!
Erin says
I agree! And so are those kids! Way to go. You all definitely earned your “splurges”!

Awww, thanks for the encouragement! We don’t always have “uneventful” trips, but I am always thankful when we do. )
julia says
Brigette, I’d love any tips on how you do the Venison Roast in the Crockpot, as we too have a surplus of venison in the freezer! I use up all of the ground venison in spaghetti, tacos, soup, etc., but I haven’t found a great recipe for the other cuts yet. Thank you in advance!
Brigette says
I cook for a looong time at a low temperature. I always add in some fat (butter or oil) and some liquid (soy sauce diluted with water is one we like – and it doesn’t make the final product taste asian :)) and spices (different spices combinations depending on what “inspires” me when I open my spice cabinet!).
Lana says
Yay! I am glad you saw the butter deal! I stopped 3 times as I was out and passing Bi-Lo and ended up with 14 pounds. I am so thankful for that deal as we were running very low.
Brigette says
14 pounds of butter is GREAT!
