Grocery Total for the Week: $111.56 (This is more than I usually spend, but inflation here is no joke! 🙁 It’s just not realistic for us to spend much less than $100 a week with current prices – and that’s with using free venison for many of our meals [my husband and son are avid hunters and get 5-8 deer every season]. Some of these things will last us through the end of next week, so in theory I’ll spend a little less next week.)

I don’t buy much at Aldi any more. Their prices are very high in Florida. BJ’s and Walmart are a little lower and by God’s Grace, I found a local overstock grocery store where I buy most of our food.
Brigette says
Oh, those local overstock grocery places can be the absolute BEST! I’m so happy you’ve found a local place like that. 🙂 My Walmart is more expensive than my Aldi. Isn’t it interesting how things vary so much in different locations?
Tonya says
What is your homemade noodle recipe for the chicken noodle soup?
Brigette says
I don’t use a recipe as I’ve done it so many times now that I don’t even remember where I originally got the recipe from. But something like this one:
https://www.food.com/recipe/delicious-homemade-egg-noodles-95311
I throw them in the soup almost immediately after cutting them, but that’s because I usually don’t plan ahead well enough. 😉 Are these cheaper to make than buy? Probably not. But we like the taste and texture of homemade noodles SO much better!

I hear you…I spend about $200 a week to feed my family of 6 here in Southeastern PA. I have tried to spend less, but then we just end up eating out more because we don’t have enough food on hand :/
Brigette says
It never works well when I try to spend less either! If my husband thinks there isn’t “enough” food in the house, he feels the needs to make unsolicited stops at the grocery store on his way home from work, haha. And then we end up spending MUCH MORE that week. 😉

Sometimes I go over the limit for Aldi and they’re ok with it as long as I’m not buying out everything left or doubling the limit. Once or twice I’ve been asked about it and they’re fine when I explain how many people I’m shopping for. I don’t want to hoard or take something from someone else but sometimes we legitimately will use up that many of an item (like eggs or milk) in a short period of time.
Brigette says
That’s good to know! I’ll have to ask (especially when it’s something like a limit of 2 dozen eggs, which it was recently, and they clearly have LOTS of eggs in stock. We can easily eat 1 1/2 dozen eggs in ONE MEAL at my house!)
