For those of you with a BJ’s Wholesale Club nearby, did you know you can use manufacturer’s coupons there (including printable coupons)? You can also stack these with BJ’s store coupons found here.
But it gets even better: BJ’s allows multiple coupons to be redeemed on multi-packs of "individual-for-sale" packaged items (i.e. if you buy a pack of toothpaste that includes three individual toothpaste tubes, you can use three coupons on the one item, most store only accept one coupon on an item like this.)
If you are not already a member of BJ’s, it might be worth a trip to price compare and see if you could save money by becoming a member. You can go here to download a free one-day pass (you will be charged an extra 15% if you purchase anything, though, so it’s not exactly "free").
Have you shopped at BJ’s Wholesale Club? If so, I’d love to hear whether you think purchasing a membership is worth the investment.
Can someone explain the coupons to me with examples? Do they have a limit on how many coupons you can use?
I just got my BJ membership yesterday. They gave me 14 months for the same as 12. A $10.00 off coupon to use that day, a coupon book which actually included items that I was already getting. So after the items were rung up my savings were equal to the price of membership…so it was free! Can’t beat that!
Thanks for the info on multiple coupons! And I thought because their coupons say “manufacturers coupon” on them that they couldn’t be stacked. That’s great news that they can! We love BJs and save lots of money there, especially on diapers. I have done many comparisons by unit pricing and often times BJs cannot be beat, even by CVS after ECBs! I use their coupons all the time. We also have the BJs Visa card which pays 2% on all BJs purchases and 1% on all others, in the form of BJs Bucks (used to purchase in store items). Since we pay all credit card bills as received, we love the fact that they pay us to carry their card! Between the BJs Bucks, the coupons and the low prices on everything (including gas) we save far more than the membership fee each year. We even do Christmas shopping there as they have great prices on toys and other items.
I have been stacking coupons at BJ’s for years. A Sam’s club is closer to my house, so I joined, and I was dismayed to learn that they don’t accept coupons. I still have my BJ’s membership, but let Sam’s lapse. I’m in Maine and never have trouble with coupons there, be they printed or clipped. I will have to try the multiple-stacking and see what happens.
Thanks for the tip about the fact that BJs accepts multiple coupons — that’s fantastic. We’re members and shop their often, this will make for an even better deal. Thanks!
As long as there are multiple UPC symbols on the product pack, yes, they will take multiple coupons. I’ve done it, and the best part is that a BJ’s cashier was the one who told us about it. We always get great deals there; they mail out coupon books frequently, and we really take advantage!
We were BJ’s members until we moved, because we thought Costco was better (how they treat their employees, prices, etc.) but now I’m not so sure, because some of my favorite things I used to get a BJ’s I can’t find at Costco.
However, I did go to Costco recently and I used their store coupons plus regular coupons. Maybe I just got lucky? Is it supposed to be true that all Costco’s don’t accept manufacturer coupons?
After this year, I will compare and see which is cheaper. I do like the Costco hot dog/drink deal, though!
And we got a great deal on tires at BJ’s with a lifetime guarantee of free rotations and service even if we are no longer members!
We have a membership for 2 years. The best deals should be diapers. For eg Huggies no 3 goes at $0.19 per dipe without coupon and almost $0.17 per dipe after coupon. (and canned tomatoes, which you can get at $0.49 per can) or cake mix (after coupon sometimes you get the Betty Croc at $0.60 or less per pack). Or oil. HOWEVER, ever since we started to do CVS, Wag and couponing at our own grocery, we MIGHT be taking a break from the membership, cos we might be able to get a lot of good stuff other places, esp when they sell in such big quantities.
I LOVE shopping at BJs, I’ve been using coupons there for years. Often the coupons they send me are even better than the ones in the circulars. I am about to move away from a BJs and am very sad. They are not only good pricewise, but their food is very good and fresh as well.
To know whether membership is worth the cost, you have to figure out whether their prices are significantly better on the things you normally buy. The best way to determine this is to get a day pass (I think you can download one from their website) and go visit the store with your price book in hand. Some people say the gas alone is worth it. The gas prices are about 4 or 5 cents per gallon cheaper in my area, but that only saves me about .75 cents per fill-up. That would still not justify the $45.00 per year membership…
I still shop at Aldi’s and some local supermarket chains and find prices cheaper than BJ’s. Yes, I have a membership, but only because I get it at a discount through work.
I’ve been shopping at BJ’s for years, I’ve preferred them over Costco and Sam’s. BJ’s and Costco offer healthier selections of food than Sam’s does. Costco is good too, but I’ve stuck with BJ’s because of the location here and using coupons saves me a lot of money…they send a coupon mailer full of good coupons every month. I had no idea I could combine them w/my manufacturer coupons and that I can use more than one coupon for an item- wow, thanks for the tips!
P.S., CONGRATS on expecting #3!!! Hope you have a happy and healthy pregnancy and baby;-)
Thanks for this blog! It is a wealth of money-saving information! I did not know that we can stack, use multiple coupons or use internet coupons at BJs.
I crunch the numbers each year to determine if it’s worth getting a membership with BJs. Last year, when I was purchasing both diapers and formula, I figured that the membership paid for itself in 3 months. Now that I no longer have formula to purchase, it took 8 months to pay for itself. I’ve started using generic / store brand products this year and use fewer and fewer name-brand products. I may not renew next year at all. Of course a BJs membership is only worth-while if you use the coupons mailed to you regularly.
I absolutely love Bj’s. I do all of my grocery shopping at Bj’s and I am able to stay within my food budget. We actually just changed our membership to the gold membership, which is where we will start to earn money back for our purchases. I usually save $25 – $30 each week. I purchase mostly what is in the coupon books, just like using and ad from the grocery store. Our Bj’s will use all coupons and we have never had a problem. With stacking coupons I was able to buy a package of 4 Crest toothpastes for $.49. Now that is a deal. I can’t speak highly enough about Bj’s. Would highly recommend it for food and gasoline. What a savings.
I don’t know anything about BJ’s, but we have a Sam’s membership. I rarely buy groceries there. I find I can do better at a discount grocer, with coupons, or even by buying generic on certain items at Kroger/Walmart. The only thing I have found to be helpful is the store brand training pants (like “pull-ups”) are cheaper. Most other things seem to actually cost more than at other places when you actually look closely-at least on the things I researched. We basically use our membership for books, hot pizza, furniture, and occasionally clothing or Christmas gifts-not food or household items. And I agree with another poster-you can spend $100 on 5-6 items-ouch. We just don’t have the money to do that in one lump sum ,even if it will last 6 months.
we save a ton on gas alone, didn’t know about the coupons for multi packs or online printables!
We only have Costco here, and we do have a membership. It’s worth it if you have a little one in diapers and on formula like we do, but once our son doesn’t need these items, I don’t know if the fee would be worth it. I do like that I can get cheese for $3 a pound there consistently and bulk items like oil, flour, yeast, etc. for a decent price.
Just wanted to let you know that in my NJ BJ’s they would not let me use BJ’s coupon and another manufacturer’s coupon on LUVs diapers. So they do not allow stacking. Sometimes, store associates have this idea that they somehow lose money when customers use coupons. I guess we have to find out their true coupon policy and stand up for our rights as customers sometimes.
Sometimes I find a great deal on an item, and then I can’t find it again on other trips. They have good prices on milk, chocolate chips and dried cranberries. I buy most of my food at the supermarket and get better prices. I didn’t know they would accept multiple coupons for a multipak, though. Sometimes their packages are just larger and that might not work. I would suggest that you take a notepad and pen and jot down prices before you sign up. There is definitely the tendency to overbuy when you are there. I usually spend $100 and I buy much less than other people I see.
I can attest to the wonders of BJ’s. Last week I used both maufacturer’s coupons and BJ’s coupons as well as stacking my coupons. I think I saved almost $20 and that’s a big deal at a wholesale club for me. 🙂
BJ’s is well worht the fee, especially since we still have a little one in diapers.
Love love love the BJ’s.
Their online printable coupons are very good — check ’em every couple days and print a bunch because they change.
They also mail a very nice coupon book about once/month. You can stop by the store and get more coupon books for repeat items.
It’s been hit-or-miss with me for manufacturer coupons, but the store coupons are usually better anyway.
It is definitely worth the membership fee. More so than Sam’s club. Sams will not take any coupons but bj’s will I ahven’t stacked there yet but I just found out they will take multiples on some of the items…
ooo, I love BJ’s! I used to have a BJ’s membership through my employer and recently they switched to Costco, so now I have that membership. Costco will not accept coupons though, and they don’t have many store coupons either. I am thinking of switching back to BJ’s soon, simply because of the coupon thing!
I had no idea they allowed multiple coupons for multi-packs. It may be worth getting a membership if they do, and also allow to combine that with store coupons.
I once tried to use manufacturer’s coupons I printed out and they wouldn’t accept them – even though I was arguing with them what they said on their website that they accept ALL manufacturer’s coupons. https://www.bjs.com/coupons/index.shtml
I emailed a complaint and the operations manager called to apologize and they ended up sending me a $25 gift card for my “troubles”. Just a heads up if you are planning on using coupons you printed.
In comparison to Costco, they seem to have more products available (more brand names) but for some reason we like Costco more. The BJ’s around here in MA don’t offer cheap hot dogs/sausages/pizza to eat like Costco either.
I love BJ’s and it is definitely worth the money. We bought new tires and with their low prices on gas we have saved more than we paid for the membership.
