I’m so honored to be guest posting over on 100 Days of Real Food today. If you are interested in how to afford real food on a budget, be sure to click over and read my post.
Also? If you’re interested in making the switch to more real foods, I highly recommend following the blog, 100 Days of Real Food. It’s packed with all sorts of great inspiration, ideas, and recipes for eating fewer processed foods (or eliminating them completely!)
Honestly I love this blog!! I have been enjoying it for about 6 months now and have used many of the recipes in her index! They are phenomenal! Our family favourites are the whole wheat tortillas and whole wheat pitas! Easy and very little time to make them! I make a load ahead of time and freeze them and they taste great! So glad that this blog has been featured here! In a perfect world we would love to buy organic and non-GMO food, however, in this season of our lives it is just not affordable and we live in northern canada where there aren’t many options for shopping; but that’s ok it’s just a season and we do grow our own food even with a short season.
I think a lot of the information mentioned in the post was valuable, but I do believe its a misnomer to speak of foods in terms of it being real or otherwise; when I began organic growing at home I researched this topic, and found that over 98% of foods in this country is processed, and that goes for organic as well. I believe that its also worth stating that informed buyers should also be focusing more on non-GMO foods, the lack of time and research on the effect they hold on our food supplies, as well as the long term effects of these foods in our everyday lives. Beyond this, I think there needs to be a greater balance between being able to buy organic, bulk, and coupon, as so often the advice of experts doesn’t seem to mesh in that area.
I really think it all depends on what your definition of “processed” is. All oils are processed. All grains are processed to remove the hulls and chaff. Butter is processed. Many organic foods are as processed as non-organic.
