Despite the sickness at our house today, it ended up being a good day. Here’s a play-by-play on how it went:
I slept in a little this morning since I was a little tired after a full weekend. I got up around 6:45 a.m. and went downstairs to read my Bible, write in my journal, and get my morning blogging work done.
My copy edits for my manuscript were due today, so I spent some of my blogging time tying up some loose ends with that and sending some emails to ask for some information I needed to gather.
Silas came downstairs as I was working on wrapping up my blogging time so I stopped to make breakfast for him.
I made him some oatmeal and while it was cooking, I made some fried eggs for the rest of us.
And then I unloaded the dishwasher and put away the dishes.
Silas came back into the room all wrapped up in a blanket ready to eat his oatmeal. We were out of milk, so he used half and half instead (notice sick Kathrynne in the background. She slept in a sitting up position on the couch most of the night because she said she could sleep better that way due to how stuffed up her nose is. Poor girl!)
I love how committed he is to getting everything done on his Daily List. First thing in the morning every morning, he asks for his list so he can get started on it! 🙂
After Silas was finished with his breakfast, I helped him with his Kindergarten and then we did an abbreviated Morning Time together with Kathrynne somewhat participating from the couch.
I got some food and drinks for Jesse and Kathrynne and tried to make them as comfortable as possible.
I then got busy getting the rest of the house all picked up and presentable. Since I’d gone to bed with the house completely clean, this was quite easy.
{I just love our new mantle decor/set up. We freshened it up for the filming at our house and it makes me smile every time I look at it!}
I made a quick snack to take with me later when I went to the office space. I’ve found that I will eat a whole lot of healthy foods if they are all cut up and accessible. So I try to bring at least 4-5 servings of veggies/fruits with me each day as it’s a very simple way to increase my fresh produce intake with very little effort!
I carried the laundry down since Kathrynne was sick (I told her I’d take over her chores for the day) and started a load of laundry.
I then made my bed and straightened our room.
By this time, it had been about two hours since Silas had eaten and he was hungry again so I said he could made a peanut butter and jelly sandwich for himself. He struggles to keep weight on — in large part due to his asthma medication — so I am always happy to see his hearty appetite!
I’d been dreading it all morning, but it was time… time to face this messy, messy closet! I’m not sure how the kids’ closet explodes like this on a regular basis, but it just does. They do a great job of keeping their room clean most of the time, but we’re still working on learning how to keep the closet clean, too.
20 minutes later and it was so. much. better. I had Kaitlynn and Silas help me and I talked to them about the importance of keeping their closet clean and not just throwing random things in the closet.
Speaking of throwing random things in places, I then went out to clean out the car. Oh my goodness! I knew it was bad, but I had no idea how bad it was. I almost considered not showing you these pictures because it’s quite embarrassing.
What is that pile of junk, you may ask? Oh, just every single last thing I found in the car that didn’t belong!!
I have decided we should probably dub our car the “Traveling Trash Can” instead of “car” because it looks like that’s what we’ve been using it as recently. I’m not even going to apologize or try to explain why all those random things are in that pile… because I’m not even sure about some of them!
But suffice it to say, my car looks so much better now. And I’m hopeful that I can do a better job of keeping it that way.
Once that was finished, I got in a quick run on the treadmill in the garage, took my shower, and got ready to head out the door to the office space. Jesse told me to go ahead and go and he held down the fort for a few hours while I finished up some pressing writing and work things.
When I got home, Silas and Kaitlynn and I had a baseball game together outside to enjoy the gorgeous weather we had in Nashville today. Then we made smoothies for dinner (I’m all about quick and easy and it was what sounded good to the sick ones so I was happy to oblige!), finished a few projects, ran some more laundry, had bedtime routine, and the kids went to bed.
And now Jesse and I are going to catch an episode of Downton Abbey and then head to bed. I’m hopeful that he and Kathrynne will be feeling somewhat better tomorrow. I hate that they are so miserable!

I’ve been working on cleaning out my office this week. I’ve gotten rid of 11 1/2 inches of paper (there’s an office challenge going on, so we’re measuring) and today I’m cleaning off my bookshelf of books that I don’t really need for work.
Treasure says
would love to read these books!
Julie says
I cleaned out half of our garage…I have a whole van load of stuff to give away! Yea for decluttering!!
Rawny says
Thank you for the honest look at your day to day life. I have 3 children ages 4, 3 and 6 months and we have been doing a “spring cleaning/purging” and its exhausting. I start an “easy” task and it turns into anything but easy! My computer desk contents are currently strewn about my dining room from yesterday’s “easy task” that was never finished! Thank you for the opportunity to win this stack of books and cds.

Today was busy with my one son who has Autism being sick and running around housecleaning, while the other part of my day was with our 13 year old who has Autism and is cyberschooled. Always busy here at our house, but I love it!

We haven’t cleaned much today, but one thing I am working on is my relationship with God and at MOPS today we discussed our Attitude of Gratitude and the power of the words that we use every day.
We had a great group discussion today! 🙂

I spent three hours Spring cleaning my house, then opened up the windows to let some fresh air in, it was wonderful!

I had a pretty productive day actually. Sorted through all the boys clothes and removed everything that no longer fits. It did wonders for getting their closets/drawers organized and means I won’t be repeatedly washing clothes that landed on the floor because they don’t fit. 🙂

I just wanted to let you know that when you said Silas struggles to keep weight on due to his asthma medication – I had an aha moment. Our son has allergy-induced asthma and is on a twice-daily inhaler. I too say “YES” anytime he wants to eat! Thanks for the realization that it is probably the cause. Your blog is the only one I read consistently. Thanks for the insight into your life – always motivational!
Crystal Paine says
I’m so grateful you found that helpful! And I’m so sorry about your son’s asthma. It’s no fun at all, but I’m grateful for modern medicine and how it’s helped Silas at least be able to mostly function at a normal level most of the time.
Debbie says
so far: prepped dinner, vacuumed the couch, and kept up with three kids!

Thanks for sharing all the non-Pinterest-worthy pictures! 🙂 It’s real life and it gives me inspiration to tackle some areas of my house that need organized! You are such an inspiration to me! God bless you today!

I got my utensil drawer cleaned and organized and my silverware drawer organized. I have an 18 mo old who loves to push a chair up and pull things from the drawers. I was able to throw away some items that were not very usable any more. Made me feel so much better to open thaw drawer and know where everything is!
jennifer says
Oh my goodness I need your drive! I have been in a funk lately causing me to be slacking! Praying I snap out of this soon!
Amanda Pennington says
Thanks for the inspiration! This post was a reminder to me to review yesterday for what I got done rather than did not. Yesterday, I did 4 loads of laundry (and 2 got folded and put away!), changed the sheets, wiped down the kitchen cabinets, and wrote my adoption goal plan. I also worked for 2.5 hours. So thanks for the reminder!!!
Crystal Paine says
“This post was a reminder to me to review yesterday for what I got done rather than did not.”

It’s so inspiring to read all that you manage to get done in one day. My done lists are slowly growing longer, unfortunately my toddler’s to do list consists of “Follow Mommy around and take out everything she puts away” and he always finishes what’s on his list 😉

I cleaned our bedroom for the millionth time. This time it will stay clean, FOREVER! Right???
Trisha says
We are redoing our mudroom/laundry room so it was sort through that horrible “dump pile” day… mail, random socks, etc. I’ll just say it was much worse than your car photo!
sarah says
I cleaned my kitchen and my dining room. My kitchen was a wreck from doing freezer cooking and my dining room was awful awful cluttered from prepping clothes for a consignment sale.
Megan Ross says
I love that your car is the traveling trash can! I cannot keep our van cleaned out no matter how many times I tell the kids to bring their stuff inside the house with them!
Vanessa says
Somehow I have been able to stay on top of our basic chores, so I worked on organizing (and selecting seversl to print and frame) our picture files. For me, organizing physical things is so much easier and feels so much more productive but it was great to go through…ahem….several years of photos yesterday.
Theresa L says
Hope it’s not too late to enter! Yesterday, I meal planned and did the grocery shopping. I do this every couple weeks and it’s not something I enjoy, so getting it done is a major accomplishment for me. I also drove my mom to a doctor’s appointment, took my daughter to a doctor’s appointment, and still managed to get Irish soda bread made to go with dinner and my son’s homeschooling done! It was a crazy day! LOL
Kristie says
house was cleaned yesterday so just general pickup and laundry today!
Esther says
Don’t worry too much about a messy car! It just means you’ve been out having fun with your family. We just got back from camping and our van looks WAY worse than that — going to have the kids work on cleaning it this morning!
Girl next door says
Crystal, the weather here in Southern Cali is nearly 100 this week, so to see your kids wrapped up in blankets reminds me that it is still winter elsewhere 🙂
Today I worked on lots of laundry, took kids to homeschool co-op, chased my one year old, bought groceries, used lots of coupons (saved 50% on my groceries), washed lots of dishes, cleaned the kitchen, excercised, …all on my own since hubby was away on a business trip. But tomorrow is my birthday and he’ll be home!! 🙂
Jessica says
Cleaned our backyard, removed weeds, dead branches, and old drip system to prepare for the garden

We cleaned in each room today. Finally, scrubbed my laundry room floor!
Lora says
I wiped down the counter tops, put away the dishes(my DH did them before I got up today), and drum roll please, I stuck with my new way of eating– all day long!
Susan Hamel says
I managed to get 2 (out of 3) of my sons to see the doctor even though my car would not start when we were ready to leave. Luckily my husband was on lunch and was able to bring me his car. The accomplishment was getting and giving all 3 of my sons all their meds (Albuterol, Prednisone, antibiotics); they have asthma exacerbation, bronchitis, ear infection. Instead of feeling accomplished, I feel stressed but grateful. Just a busy day filled with driving around; longing for a quieter day.
Beka says
What did I clean today? Hahaha. My day was a woosy. With 5 children age 7 and under I never stop cleaning! But I love it, right?! My 7-year-old has to rinse lunch dishes every day after lunch. Well, while I was upstairs cleaning a poo diaper, he accidentally dropped a glass. So I got to do a thorough clean of the kitchen floor to make sure no one got glass shards in their feet later. And then I had turned on our drinking water spout at our kitchen sink to let a large measuring cup fill. Then I left the kitchen. Forgot all about it!! After taking care of other various pressing needs, I came back to the kitchen to a soaked counter, water dripping on the floor and all. But… the blessing behind this… under my stove got cleaned and I have a spotless kitchen floor now!
Jennifer says
Day two of my new running routine. I also got three loads of laundry washed and folded and remade the bed. Then got taxes done! WooHoo! Almost a month early.
I’m about half way through “Say Goodbye to Survival Mode”. I’m finding it so helpful in creating more flow to my life. Thank you!
Jennifer K Powell says
Just worked on the laundry and dishes. Three of these books are on my wish list. Thanks for a chance to win them.

I accomplished going out for a delightful lunch and afternoon of fellowship with some dear friends from church! It was a ton of fun and tomorrow I can go back to the grindstone and get some taxes and business stuff taken care of.
Lisa Miller says
Thanks for the motivation. I’m hoping tomorrow I can be more productive than today but it was still a good day.
Noelle says
Thanks for being so honest with your pictures. It’s not easy to do that! Thankful my car is not the only one that looks a mess–and closets!!
Christy Largent says
Crystal, I just love seeing the stack of books on your nightstand…do you feel as I, there’s never enough time to get to them all! It seems my stacks just keeps getting higher as I keep finding great books. I don’t want your give away this time, just wanted to acknowledge a fellow nightstand book-pile lover! 🙂
P.S. Where is your reading lamp?? How can you read in bed without one? Hee-hee
Lisa says
Today I wiped down all the appliances in the kitchen, scrubbed the kitchen sink, did two loads of laundry, folded and put away 3 loads, vacuumed the master bedroom, took my son to counseling, made moroccan chicken and roasted veggies for dinner, and helped my daughter babysit a 10 month old. Thanks for sharing about your day, Crystal!
michelle says
Wow!! How gracious of you to show us your true life!! So many bloggers these days give us the great and perfect aspect of their lives and sometimes it can make us feel like we are not good mothers or wives because we can’t measure up!! What a breathe of fresh air to know that you are normal just like the rest of us moms, who sometimes do great in keeping some areas of our house pretty clean but others we have to dedicate time to get it that way. My car looks the same way and I always tell my husband if you had the kids all the time your car would look like this too!! I started following your blog at the beginning of this year and I have already learned so much from it and want to say Thank You!! Your loving and kind spirit shows thru your site and I have donated to the #tendollartribe on behalf of one of my friends who truly has an heart for missions!! Please continue what you are doing because it is such an blessing!
Crystal Paine says

I cleaned my kitchen today. It was really needing it. I have been slowly working on it over the past few days. We moved all the appliances this weekend so i could clean under them. I still need to clean out the pantry, but the fridge was cleaned as well as all the countertops and cupboards. A lot of work, but it looks so much nicer now.
Kate says
Folded 5 loads of laundry! Whew! : )
Katy says
We’ve had lots of illness at my house, too, unfortunately! Including my sweet one-month-old newborn. 🙁
With all the illness, today I spent time washing bedding, pillows and burp rags, plus 3 loads of clothes. All washed, dried, folded AND put away! Feels like I accomplished a lot! I also baked 6 loaves of bread and made a yummy chicken pot pie since that’s what sounded good to our sick ones. Nothing beats fresh bread and comfort food on days like this.
Thanks for sharing your reality. And just FYI, our closets around here are infinitely worse than yours! And don’t even get me started on our car! If yours is the traveling trash can, mine is the mobile junkyard. You’re doing great! And I’m motivated to start cleaning!!

Today I had a very productive day too, but my best cleaning/organizing today was the garage! We spent the whole winter pile up stuff and more stuff there, so glad to see the main floor in the garage again 🙂
I’d love to get the stack of books, my eyes and heart shunned with the Jon Acuff’s book and the adventure in Odyssey, I have 2 little boys that would be so blessed by It and I would be blessed with all the books 😉
Risha says
I took advantage of some extra time at home on a Sunday morning (missing church due to a sick baby), and I cleaned out the master bedroom closet. It has been driving me crazy for weeks now. The closet is quite large, and I store a lot of extra boxes in there, as we live in a condo and don’t have a garage. I emptied two boxes, took three boxes to goodwill, and have another box of books to sell to the half-price bookstore. It felt so good to get it all clean. It still needs a little work, but I was pleased with the progress.
My girls’ bedroom closet looks like the one you posted, so I guess that should be my next project!
Tiffany says
I cleaned out my car too!! Wahoo! Mine was disgusting!
Julie says
Today I spent most of the morning trying to get a repairman set to come resurrect our poor washer. Sadly, it looks like it will be the end of the month before he comes. Not good news for a family of five!
We also went grocery shopping, calculator in hand, and saved 45% at Kroger. Even more exciting, we accomplished Baby Step 4 from FPU today! Woohoo!
Crystal Paine says

Today was a fresh start for me! I got up early, packed my lunch, worked my 8 hrs and actually took a lunch break, then came home and rested for 20 mins. Once my husband and daughter came home I cooked an Irish meal, played, read, put my daughter to bed, and spent some time with my husband. First time in over six months I didn’t feel rushed or let down by the day!

I accomplished a lot today! While the older 2 boys were in school, my youngest I went on a mission. We found a sale on some shoes that the older boys needed and some great, great deals at Crazy 8s on some clothes…a couple of pants for one son (he went through the knees of 3 pair of pants in less than two weeks!), a swimsuit for my oldest, and 10 shirts for next winter. The won’t need any other shirts next year and all of the clothes were exciting bargains. It was such a nice surprise to be able to find that today!

Sounds like you got a lot accomplished even with sick ones to tend to! And, that pile that came out of your van looks pretty normal to me. 🙂 My kids take stuff out there and forget to bring it back in, or they don’t think about bringing their trash out of the backseat when we arrive at our destination. It can pile up very quickly!

We have sick kids in the house, too! Went to the doctor today and my poor son is quite ill, but luckily now on antibiotics! I did not clean anything today because of the sick little one and doing our own schoolwork. Although we did change bed sheets today AND I folded and put away all the loads of laundry! I guess that’s an accomplishment!

We are in the middle of baseball/softball season, so I am doing really good to just shower in a day! Seriously! So I am feeling pretty accomplished tonight 🙂

I cleaned the closet off our garage. Every time I clean it out I promise myself that I am going to keep it clean and organized. Well a few weeks later there I am cleaning and organizing and donating items from it yet again. I guess that space is my catchall.

So refreshing and encouraging to read your posts about real motherhood and real life.
Rebekah Jones says
I know your life is not all hunky dory or always as smooth as yesterday went but I love how you had a plan and things flowed right down the plan. I am a planner but horrible doer. I’m working on that. I’m working on getting to a point where I make a plan and actually stick to it (unless there’s something else pressing that has to happen) to accomplish more daily. Thanks for the inside look. P.S. My husband thinks my car is bad also. If I show him this picture, I can show him I’m not alone in the “keep the car clean” struggle. LoL
Robin Lynch says
I am hopeful that the nice weather is here to stay so we can be done with the sickness in our house. I am afraid of what I will find in the van when i go to clean it soon. Than kyou for sharing and giving me courage to find out 🙂

I did a general cleanup today. Basically we were catching up inside after having a work week outside last week. We had pigs coming and the barn needed lots of help, plus some work on the chicken pen and cleaning maple syrup equipment. All the pictures are on our blog: http://righteousoaksfarm.com/2015/03/16/gearing-up-for-spring/
Such a great week to work together as a family!
Nicole says
I love how real you are in your posts. You are an encouragement to me!

The house needed its regular tending to. I dusted, vacuumed, washed floors, and washed sheets. I still need to do dishes and clean the bathroom. Can you guess those are some of my least favorite things? Maybelater tonight or tomorrow I’ll accomplish those items.

I ran around town with my hubby collecting all my freebies from coupons. We made a date of it! We had a free entree at a restaurant, Kroger’s free yogurt, candy, and Rev wrap, 2 free Bath & Body Works items, and after gift cards and coupons we got close to $100 toys for one penny, before tax (Clearance items ringing up for 3 cents, coupon, gift card, and a birthday flyer).

I have cleaned my bedroom, did one load of laundry, two loads of dishes, clean up toys twice. Also made all the meals for today plus snacks…yet it feels like I have accomplished little.

SK Bell says
The stacks are always good so I always hope I win, but this time I’m especially hopeful because of Fringe Hours and that Adventures in Odyssey I know my little guy would love!
Today was a big kitchen clean-up day for us. I turned on a children’s audiobook we got from the library and then my 23-month-old actually wiped down the lower cabinets and refrigerator while I tackled everything else since I saw on MSM it would be a good chore for a two-year-old. He got distracted at the end but had a blast in the beginning!
Quintana says
If it makes you feel any better, my car will make your car look clean! The weather has been so icky, it’s hard to keep it clean between snow and mud! I ran errands today and finished up last minute things for a bridal shower I’m hosting tonight. I got up early and put away all my laundry that’s been sitting in a basket and cleaned off my dresser.

I also cleaned out my car! I had already emptied most of the “junk” over the weekend, but today I got out the vacuum. So much better, why don’t I do it more often??? Also sweeping and cleaning the guest bathroom today since we have church small group here tonight. Hope everyone is better at your home, Crystal! Glad you weren’t struck this time around.
Kandace says
I got up early and had some peace and quiet while I made lunches and snacks for school today. I put away laundry and finally cleared off the kitchen counter. A huge accomplishment since it got totally out of control last week while my husband was in the hospital due to a complication from his Crohn’s Disease. Grandparents kept the kids and I just stacked papers onto paper every night when I got home from the hospital, with enough time to shower and get a little sleep before heading back in the morning. Thankful he’s feeling much better, and so am I! I shredded, recycled, scanned/shredded, mailed bills, etc for most of the morning. Sometimes the most normal and mundane of days are just what the soul craves.
Mrs. Frugalista says
I have to be honest, I am not cleaning anything today but I somehow managed to make it through an extraordinary rough day of many unmotivated students, PARCC testing, a messy and under construction kitchen, feeling under the weather and cried over my friend losing her 10 year old Pug. I accomplished some early morning grocery shopping with kids in tow before school started! That never happens! I attempted to completely empty out my closet and reorganize it on Friday (I got all kinds of fun organizing bins and stuff from the dollar store and was SUPER motivated), but ended up in the ER with an incisional hernia in the process. 😛 I was so bummed, because I’d been so completely motivated to get it done!!

I’ve really struggled with frustrations over not getting things accomplished lately, but am happy to be giving my attentions to those in my life who deserve them the most. Today was one of those days when my own family needed my presence more than my services. So, while I’m having a hard time coming up with a thought for what I accomplished today, I know you can relate to this as a worthy explanation! 🙂 Blessings to you and your family!

Ha! Since junk seems to multiply in our van when I’m not looking, I started stashing tiny trash bags and quarters for the vacuum in the van, hoping they’ll multiply too! 😀
I’m so glad you post those pics. Too many of the beautiful fireplace ones and we all start forgetting you’re a normal human being living a normal human life, with dirty laundry, messy closets and cluttered cars. Don’t stop being real! It’s one of the things that we all love about you.
Yesterday was crazy here! Sunday night I found a MUSHROOM! Yes, I said MUSHROOM! growing out of the baseboard, where the carpet meets it, in our living room. After freaking out in grand fashion, I called maintenance yesterday morning. They came right over, cut open the wall, and low and behold a main waste water stack that funnels all the kitchen and laundry waste water from our apartment and the two above us has been leaking behind the wall. For a while. A long while. It was DISGUSTING! I about lost it, but they reassured me it will all be fixed and cleaned…as soon as the right parts come in.
Anyway…it was one of those moments that I’m really thankful we rent, because our meager savings would have been used up trying to fix the problem. We also are getting the opportunity to watch everything they are doing to fix the problem, so if something like should happen when we can buy our own home, there’s a better chance we could fix the problem ourselves.
I hope your family all gets to feeling better soon!
Crystal Paine says

I sneakily packed up my kids clothes for a surprise little getaway we are hoping to take them on.
I didn’t even know there was a gf bread in 5 mins a day book! We have celiac in our fam and are still adjusting to that. Would love to win this stack! 🙂
Kristina Long says
New reading material is always welcome!
Jessica says
I’m inspired to tackle a closet or two in our house now! My toddler and I cleaned the bathrooms this morning before we did some mall-walking and had a time to fellowship with a dear friend! I didn’t want to have the bathrooms on my mental list for later in the day, so now I can enjoy some reading and brainstorming while my daughter naps 🙂 Plus, she loves to “help!”
Jennifer says
Kitchen/school area put back into order today. It is amazing how little time it takes for it to become a mess!
Tara H says
I’d love to win! Oh and we really need to clean our van and closets! 🙂
Donna H says
Thanks for sharing your day with us! I love your daily lists for your kids – I need to try that out. We’re on spring break and it’s easy to just let things pile up and not be productive this week. Bad habits are easy to start. I am definitely trying the lists tomorrow!
Bon Otts says
Oooo….books and CDs…that’d be fun with spring break just right around the corner! Thanks for the chance!
Jennifer Beard says
I would love some new reading/listening material! As far as accomplishments go, I got peed on by my 3 month old son while getting him ready to go to Starbucks with me. Does that count? No? Oh well. My biggest accomplishment is snuggling him, and if that’s all I get done today, so be it! 🙂
Kelly says
I accomplished getting everyone’s bags packed so the kids are ready to go to grandma’s house and I can go to the hospital to have a baby tomorrow!!
Stacy Christensen says
I vacuumed the house and got a box of old toys together to donate!
Jennifer Semmes says
I love your suggestion for Morning Time. I really want to do that with my son on the days I’m not working. I work three days per week, but I’d like to be productive on those mornings where I don’t have to get my 2 year old ready and out the door. He has shown a wonderful interest in music and we bought him a guitar. I want to use Morning Time to start some early guitar lessons. I hear you on little boys’ appetites! Mine just LOVES peanut butter crackers. Honestly, he will just eat the crackers and some cheese.
Jennywrennope says
I cleared out my garage
Bonnie L. says
I almost got my dishwasher emptied. Now that my 1.5 year old is down for his nap, I should be able to finish without him climbing in.

Today, the kids and I emptied the fridge for a deep clean and then we did the pantry too!
Melanie says
I love books and am inspired by how much you read! Still trying to fit in more than one a month!
Aimee Wiley says
I love how minimalist yet welcoming your home is. We are just finishing installing hardwood floors through our living room and the boys’ bedroom, and I am loving the empty space with all the furniture and kid debris that normally fills the space. Isn’t it true about the kids’ closets?! It is a constant battle to keep them clean and organized. Funny, too, though, how quickly some of those worst looking areas can be to straighten up. Thanks for sharing your day in the life:)
Renee Reinhardt says
My husband and I just cleaned the garage together.
Ashley Mullen says
Today I did my bathrooms, two loads of laundry, and picked up our master bedroom. Feeling accomplished!

I prepped 3 bunches of kale to blanch and freeze along with the 6 I prepped on Saturday. It was the last veggie needing to be dealt with before I pick up this week’s share tomorrow. My frig will be clean tonight.

My 5 year old and I are working on his closet today. Wow! Where does all of the mess come from?!?

I enjoyed sharing a cup of tea with a friend and gave thanks.
I planted seeds with my children and gave thanks.
I watered their souls with His Word and gave thanks.
I baked blueberry muffins to start the day and gave thanks.
I photographed the sunset and I gave thanks.
If all I did today was gave thanks, it was enough.
Rachel says
I did five loads of laundry!!! And I would love to win this; it includes 3 books on my to-read list!
Ashley says
Your mantle is beautiful! I would stop and stare every time I passed it, too 🙂 Yesterday (as today is 3/17) I laundered all of our towels/cleaning cloths. I also made some financial calls on behalf of my mom, which ate up the rest of my free afternoon. A MOPS meeting at night topped off the day like a cherry on a sundae! Today I am hoping to actually clean more, starting with [dramatic drumroll, please] our walk-in closet. Fortunately it doesn’t quite look like your kids’, but it is chock full of things that don’t belong there. Thanks for sharing the pictures of your life, and hope that your family starts feeling better soon!
Misty Nicole Roberts says
I cleaned out my kitchen pullman cart. I sorted six boxes of random recipes into a binder with an index, shelved the cookbooks I wanted to keep, and listed the others online for sale, and was able to recycle three bins of paper and odd things from groceries I condensed into jars and containers!
Pat says
I straightened out the pantry. Now I can find things!
Ruth says
I wiped down our two bathroom counters and toilets. My son had cleaned the toilets previously. It doesn’t seem like a lot but my kids have been house bound this winter and our ready for spring. They can be challenging at times.
Trish says
I cleared clutter from the garage. It was such a beautiful day to be outside and I was productive! win/win
Vicky M says
I washed our winter wear and packed it away until for next year.
Christina Bell says
Today is all about cleaning and tidying up. Yesterday was too nice to stay inside so we spent the entire day outside. So that means Monday chores weren’t done.
Amy says
My big focus yesterday was getting the kitchen presentable again and making a 6lb pork roast into pulled pork!
And we got school done AND enjoyed very unseasonably warm temps and sunshine 🙂
Jen says
We were all sick yesterday & today, so we have just been in survival mode! I’ve cleaned up lots of sick messes but my house is a DISASTER! Maybe tomorrow

Danielle Jones says
I kept all three kids and 2 dogs alive and fed, worked 60+ hours, and the closest I have come to cleaning is vacuuming. Loved the post, we all do what we can with what we have.
Martha D says
Put away laundry, my car looks way worse, that should be next for me!
Reva says
I enjoyed a visit with my mom at the nursing home and then tackled the dirty kitchen ceiling fan today–big time need there.
CW says
We cleaned the tub and did some extra floor cleaning (the kids track in so much dirt!).
Thanks for a chance to win. That looks like a great prize!
Karen says
That looks like a productive day – even with sick people! I was able to tidy up our living room and kitchen, bake pumpkin log and prepare for a young ladies group that comes over on Mondays.

jen s says
Thank you for the pictures! Sure makes me feel better about the state of my house. Love when you keep it real!!
Alissa DeLucio says
I have had an unusually productive day…this by no means represents my average day. With that said, I have the following done: laundry, dishes (except new from this morning’s breakfast), paid bills, enrollment packet for oldest boy’s first year in school (just waiting on dr to finish their page), ran to Home Depot for paint stir sticks for a MOPS play date project, bible study lesson for small group, and a few other odds and ends while keeping oldest child entertained and tending to 7 week old as he has a need. Again I stress this was highly more productive than usual…a pretty day helped, but looks like we are to get rain, so I’m glad outside-the-house errands are done except bible group tonight.
Jen says
I worked on the master bedroom and also did some laundry. My one year old is cutting teeth and fussy so not much else got done aside from that and meals.
ines gillier says
Chystal, you are so inspiring: please, give me some of your energy!
Jen says
I cleaned out our van and my husband’s car this last weekend and oh my it was just as bad or worse after a whole winter of neglect! It has felt SO good to get into a clean van!!
Yesterday I cleaned out the bathroom drawers and cupboard and threw out a grocery bag full of “stuff”. Today is the closet….yikes!!
Danielle says
I had some serious hopes of getting things done when I got home from work yesterday, but I am 19 weeks pregnant and still struggling with exhaustion. When I got home it took every ounce of energy to load and unload the dishwasher and make dinner. I lined every sheet pan with aluminum foil that I was using to roast vegetables, because I knew I just did not have any energy to wash them last night. We used paper plates to make clean up easier. So after dinner I laid of the couch while spending time with the kids before bed.
Kim says
My car is so.much.worse! I appreciate how you keep your life simple, focused and healthy.
Jill C. says
I straightened up out breeze way area and replaced the winter boots with rubber boots. I really hope that step doesn’t jinx the beautiful weather we’re having. I love how a change in the weather (from sub zero to upper 40s) and more daylight can ignite my cleaning spark.
Darlene Craig says
I cleaned my front porch. Since the snow and ice is finally gone, maybe I can keep it clean!
Tricia says
Grocery shopping and laundry were what I got accomplished today, with the “help” of a toddler.
Debby Sheldon says
I cleaned my kitchen and picked up my bedroom- stopped just shy of vacuuming it. I would love to win that stack of books!
I’m also curious about your white cupboards. I am considering painting my kitchen cabinets white, but a few people have told me that they always look dirty- they show everything.
How do you feel about yours?
Crystal Paine says
They do show more dirt, but not as much as I’d guessed they would. I usually only wipe them down every few weeks and they stay looking pretty good that way.
Casey says
Happy St. Paddy’s day! I hope everyone feels better soon!
Meredith says
How’d you get a picture of my car?:)
Jamie says
I know the feeling! I am a mom of 5. (16, 12, 8, 6 & 4) My 6 yo son has a behavior disorder and my 8 yo son has leukemia (DX 5/16/13) My son (with leukemia) is home sick today with a nasty cold (hoping it’s not the flu) but there’s still stuff to get done and we trudge on because we’re moms and that’s our super power
brittney says
I hope your son starts feeling better. I’ll say a prayer for him and the rest of your family.
Lisa says
I prepared some muffin mixes for the freezer and had a batch set to go for breakfast this morning. I also had some nice time to chat with DH.
Jenna DeMaria says
My favorite was the car pic. Thanks for being real and not leaving it out. It made me chuckle too. I hope everyone is feeling better soon.
JESSICA C says
I actually cleaned and vacuumed my car out yesterday too. It needed it so badly. I should stop letting my children eat in my vehicle to prevent it from getting so awful.
Valerie says
I too was wondering what day we were talking about! Yesterday the bathroom was cleaned, today I’m on load number 2 of laundry! Ironing later… At least that is the plan!
Kristina Stewart says
I worked on updating some financial records today. I also gathered up some donations to drop off at Goodwill.
abby @ winstead wandering says
I finished a guest post that, for some reason, was really hard to write. Not because of the content, but because the words just weren’t there. But I banged it out and felt pretty satisfied with the result.
Maureen says
We have found that our closets stay more organized when everything has a place. May I suggest a visit to the Container store or some other closet organizing store ? There looks to be a lot of open space in your kids closet which can be a little overwhelming. I hope everyone feels better soon.
Joanna M. says
Cleaning out drawers!!
Kim says
Hope everyone is starting to feel better. I LOVE your fireplace mantle. I actually looked, kept going and then came back to it because I liked it so. Then I read your caption about you loving it and it making you smile. That’s funny because I smiled when I looked at it. 🙂 Secondly – sorry, but lol regarding your car. That was awesome. My car has looked like that too. Made me feel better about myself. 🙂 Cheers!
Diana says
I planted onions, lettuce, flowers, and prepped two more garden beds. (That sounds impressive, but the beds are so small it didn’t take too long! 🙂 ) Or if we’re talking today, Tuesday, I have already washed the dishes and it’s only 9:39 am! Hooray!
Mary says
My car has been worse! These books look great, I would love to read “The Fringe Hours”
Aimee says
Ohhh…I’ve wanted that GF artisan bread book so much!!
Sarai says
I’m glad that you are very honest and open about the mess. I organized my drawers they were a huge mess I was actually having a hard time closing them from such a bad mess. I bought myself some organizers from the dollar store and put undies in one socks in another and bras in the other. I’m surprised as to how much better it looks and I only spent $3! Now my drawer looks almost empty, I just hope I can keep it that way all the time.
Lissette says
The kids cleared off the floor of our living room (which is our playroom and office as well) and I vacuumed. That was about it. I spent the rest of the day homeschooling and playing with the kids.
Rachel says
Hi Crystal, thanks for the opportunity to win those books! I love to read, but have run out of new material to devour 🙂
Becky says
two bathrooms
Mandy says
I started zone work with my kids and teaching them how to clean in their zones. My hope is for them to take over completely without me:)
Rachel says
My day didn’t go as planned due to a dead (REALLY dead) battery in my car, but I did accomplish getting a new one! 🙂 Thanks for turning a difficult day for your family into an excuse to make someone’s day with a stack of books, that is really sweet. Hope y’all feel better soon!
Amy says
So glad to see your closet and car can get like that too :-). When I clean out the car I take a plastic bag for garbage and a laundry basket for stuff and just throw it in. Then I bring the laundry basket in the house and have the kids help put it away since it is usually pretty much their stuff.
Mari says
I have noticed too that if the fruits and veggies are cleaned and diced up they get gobbled up it is worth that little extra effort on my part to give them that push.
Tammy C says
On the 7th our son was in the hospital waiting to have surgery. They thought it was his appendix but turned out to be worse. He had 6 inches of his colon cut and repaired. He ended up spending a week in the hospital. I was in the ER for 3 hours getting fluids and drinking potassium since I had been sick for 2 days with vomiting.
Thankfully the American Legion brought us 4 meals .
Crystal Paine says
I’m so sorry things have been so rough at your house recently! I hope you and your son are feeling better soon!
Karen says
I cleaned out my fridge–it needed it badly!
Tracy B. says
I cleaned my DUSTY bedroom blinds!!!
Kristin @ The Touring Camper says
Since spring is here, I started to tackle the wardrobe “weed-out” of clothes that no longer fit the kids so I can make room in the drawers for the next size up. I dread this project each year, but the closet and drawers look so much better now that there are only things that fit in them. 🙂
Chelsea says
Busy day!! I hope your family is feeling well soon! And I think smoothies for dinner sounds fabulous.
Chris says
I got a lot of errands and grocery shopping done. I also made a huge batch of Caribbean chicken stew and will freeze some. Oh my goodness, when your post title said messy car, I thought one of the sick people made it messy, if you get my drift. lol Hope they’re feeling better!
Patty says
Hi Crystal, Thanks for the opportunity! Since we stay in every other day (helps with accomplishing tasks around the house and saving money), I had Learning Time with my son. We learned about animals (bios and videos) on the National Geographic Kids website, and viewed a live stream webcam provided by a local children’s museum (Cal Academy of Science in SF). We also picked up all the pieces of paper my son played with while making it “snow”.
Jana says
Yesterday was a beautiful and busy day! I cleaned the kitchen and bathroom because we had my Grandmother over for a steak dinner ( her favorite) and few rounds of cards(also her favorite)! I accomplished a huge project at work and was even able to take my son and my friends children to the library and park for a few hours, so that she could work on her book (that she is writing). I would love to win that stack of books and audio! I grew up listening to A In O. They are like old childhood friends to me. Thank you!
Robyn says
I cleaned out a cabinet that had random receipts and coupons all thrown in together. Felt good to toss a bag full of paper that had been really weighing me down!
Amy says
I focused on getting a good day of school finished yesterday. I hope your family is feeling better today!
Meg says
Thank you for sharing your very honest pictures! I was so down in the dumps, everything seems so cluttery. Then I have to remind myself, two homeschooling kids, a lovely hyper two year old tornado and being almost in the third trimester is going to equal to not everything being perfect. Yes its driving me insane (nesting oh boy has it hit!) But not them. They loved mommy taking them on a big walk. My oldest is thrilled he can take over line duty with the washing and is tall enough to put everything up and carry the big baskets out. He blessed me by hanging out three loads and bringing them in. My daughter excelled at a new math game and bounced all over squeeling about how good she did. It honestly was a pretty good day.
Vickie @Vickie's KITCHEN AND GARDEN says
I’m amazed at all you accomplished yesterday! I hope everyone is feeling better today. My little granddaughter has a cold too. Must be the change of the seasons. Sometimes the day can be taken up with little ones who are sick. That’s how our day kind of went yesterday. Today she is doing better.
Had to laugh at the car….looks like my daughters sometimes. Life is a mess but I guess eventually we have to clean it up.
Melissa says
I managed to wash my windows, though why I bother with a 3 year old and 1 year old, I’m not sure! 🙂
Jen Smith says
I kept up with potty training our youngest, organized meals for a friend with mono, and made the best homemade granola. All in all, a pretty good Monday!
Vanessa Pruitt says
I cleaned my kitchen.
christi says
I got the groceries kids needed for lunches and field trips for the week — and put them all away!
Esther says
I made myself get the dishes all completely done last night before bed (thankfully with my daughters help). I was so tired after not sleeping much and a long full day out of the house, but i knew it would help start today on the right foot! I’d love to win those books 🙂
Amy Lauren says
Your house is super clean and neat looking :). It was fun reading about your day and I hope your daughter feels better soon!
Amy S. says
I did my 2 miles on the treadmill. My mom and one of my sisters ran errands with me to get things done for my wedding. I made dinner for my family and we got the kitchen cleaned up. I really want to read The Fringe Hours book. I have been checking our library to see if they have it. Hopefully they will get it soon.
Robyn says
I unpacked all our suitcases from our spring break trip. Today we’ll be getting back into our home school schedule. Boy am I missing the warm Florida weather. Now I’m just praying it comes soon to Indiana.
Cheryl says
I’m off work on Mon/Wed so I got the floors washed, both wood and tile, washed our bedding, did another load of clothes, dusted and organized some past magazines, (I like to save certain issues and I had 2 years on my end table, must be the librarian in me) I had a nice walk with the dog and also put away some of the outside winter decorations. We then finished the night of by going an hour and a half away to watch our a high school regional basketball game, they won!
LauraLou says
I will clean out my traveling trash can too!! It’s amazing how quickly it collects things.
Kari says
I don’t think I got anything cleaned today. But I accomplished A LOT at work. After supper we headed to town for free ice cream cones at DQ. A wonderful day, even if my house still looks neglected. I’ve already folded a load of laundry today, so here is to hoping more gets done at home today. I’ve been wanting to read The Fringe Hours as those are not used wisely in my life right now at all.
Crystal Paine says
Sounds like you had a great day — way to go!
Rebecca says
I’m going to leave a comment even though I didn’t clean anything. I went to bed last night wondering how to keep up with everything. I feel like I can’t get ahead. I’m working full-time now and there just seems to be no time when I get home to get much accomplished. And then the weekends go by so fast, I feel like I can’t get any traction. My husband and daughter help but I guess my expectations are maybe too high. Our biggest problem seems to be paper and receipts and schoolwork and stuff.
Tyna Begley says
I cleaned up our garden space! The 2 raised beds needed more soil and to have that new soil mixed in with the old stuff. Then I fertilized. Then I took 3 cyclamen flowers that have been sitting out on my front porch for WEEKS and planted them in a large pot and tucked it into a quiet, not-oft-visited corner of the back yard. For a pretty thing to look at when I meander that way…I even remembered to throw away the plastic pots. Which I will have to retrieve because I need to start some stuff by seed and need something to put them in…
Kim says
Thank you for being so real!! You are a great encouragement to me and love the challenge I get from reading your post.
Tara says
I learned how to make freezer jam with some organic strawberries I got a great deal on. Super easy and yummy!
Susan in St. Louis says
mmm…yum!
Susan in St. Louis says
I woke up with strep! Yuck! It came on out of the blue, and I was so thankful that friends could handle my 4 little so I could go to the doctor (and wait, and wait, and wait) by myself. At least it was a lovely day outside!
And good to know your kids’ closet and your car are messy too. Welcome to the club! 🙂
Crystal Paine says
I’m so sorry you have strep!! No fun at all! 🙁
Heather @ MyMothermode says
After a whole lot of drilling in my tooth- the 2nd old filling to ‘leak’- I finally got over it and worked on ebay, went walking/running with my daughter, and helped 40 American Heritage Girls plant seeds.
Now, I am just wondering how to have less stuff in my children’s closets- how do you do that?!
Thanks for the giveaway- we are new Adventures In Odyssey fans- it makes lunchtimes go so smoothly!
stefanie says
We spent most of the day playing outside but also squeezed in some laundry and mopping.
Angelina says
My husband cleaned with me yesterday and we got the bathroom and some in depth vacuuming done. It that always motivates me to clean more and keep the house presentable cleaning after times we do it together!
Donna M. says
Finally went through my mom’s jewelry, sorted what I plan to keep and put into snack size bags the stuff I’m donating. She died last April but I haven’t felt up to it yet, so I’m glad to get that done. It was an emotional day.
Beth Clark says
I did a laundry and put it away after church last night. But I always feel accomplished when I can put the laundry away and not let it sit the basket.
Have a Blessed and Happy Day in the Lord.

Cleaned the whole bathroom yesterday! Even washed the rugs!
Marilyn says
Cleaned my kitchen, which seems like a never ending job.

I’m in love with your mantle! I might steal a few ideas for the fireplace we are putting in our (soon to be finished!) basement! I can’t wait until its warm enough outside to get my car looking clean again too!
Jessica says
I finally started some seeds today for the garden. Crystal, your house is so beautiful! Love the mantle.
Jennifer says
I hope your kids feel better soon! Seeing your kids sick is a horrible feeling! I know since I have a 11-month old at home with a stuffy nose.
Laura says
I painted my daughter’s desk so that I could get it set up in her new “big girl room.” It’s the last thing that needs to get moved in there to be finished! Yay!
Stephanie says
Awesome Job! Your pics totally motivated me to keep working at being more organized. Thanks for sharing!
Kim says
Crystal, mind if I share with you a good fried eggs technique?
Melt a tablespoon of butter in the bottom of a pan over med-low heat. Crack in the desired amount of eggs, and then cover the pan with either a lid or aluminum foil. Set a timer for 6 minutes and go do something else. When the timer goes off, the eggs are pretty much done. The yolks are almost fully cooked, but still moist, and the eggs rarely ever stick to the pan. If you prefer your yolk 100% cooked, just give them another minute or so. There are also no crispy brown bits this way. (Unless you prefer your eggs to be browned and crispy, in which case, completely disregard this message) Once they’re cooked, just season and eat! 🙂
Crystal Paine says
Oh, thanks so much for this tip! I can’t wait to try it!
Cynthia says
We straightened the living room…needed it badly!
Jackie says
This week I am cleaning room by room. This morning I put away everything that was out of place in the kitchen. Will be doing the floors a little later on.
Becky says
My dad passed away recently, and he had taken care of their finances for 57+ years of marriage. My mom was off $50 in her checkbook, so I went to her house and helped her find it. I miss my dad terribly, and I cherish the time I have with my mom.
Lauren says
Posted a blog post!

It’s only 9 AM but so far I’ve cleaned up my one year old and the kitchen!
sarah says
Looks good!
Cathy says
It was a pretty productive day here, for Spring Break. Teenager is at a camp so it was just me and the younger four kids home today. We worked out in the back yard a little, I did a few loads of laundry including washing and putting my sheets back on, swept most of the house, wiped down kitchen counters, and just some general pickup. One child spot cleaned the kitchen tile for me. And then I went to work for four hours.
Heather Leiby says
Love your mantle, very classy! Today was dusting, vacuuming, & home school with the windows open to let in the gorgeous day! Then evening church music practice and my husband treating us to milkshakes after! =)
Erika says
I finally cleaned our bathroom! The state of the shower–whoa–speaking of embarrassing! Thanks for sharing your messes with us. 🙂
Mona says
I vacuumed – we recently adopted a long-hair cat and boy does he shed!! I have to vacuum everyday now!
Jeanie says
I washed bedclothes.
Whitney says
Monday was a work day for me so I made quite a bit of jewelry. I did manage to make it to the gym after getting my bigs off to school and fed my family breakfast, lunch and dinner. Tuesday is my day to tidy and do laundry so the master bedroom and family room are my main priorities today!
Erica says
Traveling Trash Can… I love it!
Amy says
Just cleaned out the fridge!
Nancy says
I actually watched your MOPS segment on being intentional in preparation for speaking to a group. I feel challenged to do better. That stack of books would probably help. 😉
Crystal Paine says
I hope your speaking engagement goes well!
Julie says
I hope you are all feeling better! What is that candle in the mason jar in your first picture? Is that a homemade candle? If so, how did you do it?
Jean Campany says
You are an inspiration. Hoping to get alot more done today. Yesterday was a full day of mom taxi. Morning band, dentist appointment, horse barn tour and late night 4H meeting.
Elizabeth says
Hope your family feels better soon!
Deborah says
Cleaned out some of the kids’ old clothes and gave them away and cleaned off all of the counters! Felt so good to have clean surfaces 🙂
Susan says
My big accomplishment for the morning is that a healthy and homemade breakfast was on the counter when the kids woke. No cereal today!
Jasie says
What a gorgeous mantle! I’m trying to do my “spring cleaning” little by little each month so yesterday on top of my normal weekend (I was a day late) cleaning, I also cleaned all the ceiling light fixtures in the house. Its crazy how much dust those things collect! This week I plan to organize the garage which is a huge undertaking, but needs to be done!
Heather Schneider says
We did some general pick up and vacuuming as we had guests for dinner! And my biggest chore was not stressing about the things that didn’t get done and being a pain to my family before the guests arrived and I got that chore done 🙂 They were happy!
Lynda Skinner says
With 66 degree weather, I had to get outside and clean a dirty car. Washing the window, wiping down the interior including the leather seats and the biggest job of all…vacuum inside the car and trunk. I also got the privilege of putting the shovels, salt and sleds away. It was so nice to drive a clean car to go and work out.
Kim says
I had a good day and was able to accomplish a lot: finished our home school work, washed and put away four loads of laundry, cooked a nice dinner, etc. But, I’m most proud of spending 1 1/2 hours working on a project that I had been grossly procrastinating on. It felt good and now I’m about 80% of the way done. Just making that one decision to sit down and start was the hardest part. Now I’m much more motivated to commit to finally finishing it up because the end is in sight.
By the way, Undone and The Fringe Hours are sitting in my Amazon cart right now to purchase, so I would definitely LOVE to win this stack of great resources. Thank you so much for all you do!
Irene J. says
Thanks for bringing us into a day in your life!
Today just started so I’ll comment on my day yesterday. I have twin 6 week olds, an 18 month old, and a sick 5 year old so I haven’t been getting much cleaning done lately but yesterday I did manage to empty and reload the dishwasher, make yogurt in my crockpot, and make supper for the first time since before the twins were born! It was a most productive day for me!
Crystal Paine says
You are an inspiration! Wow! That’s amazing that you did all of that with 6-week-old twins, an 18-month-old, AND a sick 5-year-old. I’m seriously impressed and inspired!

We are on Spring Break this week, so my daughter is cleaning out every inch of her bedroom. She has learned how to determine if unwanted items are sellable, better suited for donations, or trash. Anything she can sell goes to the local consignment store where she can use the money to buy items off of her spring summer wishlist (shorts/tanks/sandals/bathing suits, etc….). This is a process we have completed MILLIONS of times, and all of the patience I put in with her when she was younger has proven so incredibly worth it- now she can do it well all on her own!
Alicia says
My day has just started, but I plan on cleaning the kitchen and finishing laundry today.
Megan Baxter says
I cleaned and reorganized our home office. It’s been a bit of a dumping ground this past week as we’ve been doing quite a bit of hosting and stuff was getting shoved into the office during quick clean-ups. But it’s all better now!

Got the kids off to school. Had a QT. Did the dishes and folded some laundry. Mopped the kitchen floor (I have a dog with diabetes and has a hard time making it through the night without accidents). Worked normal business hours from home with the exception of a dentist appt. Took my youngest to volleyball practice and worked while she was playing. Was able to watch the last half hour.

I love it! Great job, especially with sick ones in the house! Our household just kind of stops when someone is sick, it’s so frustrating! We have that dishwasher too. The hinges on the silverware caddy in ours won’t stay closed, so it dumps out our silverware when I open the door. Knowing I’ll be cleaning up a heap of forks and sharp knives right off the bat *really* motivates me to get those dishes done. 😉
jeannie says
I finally washed the floors and wiped down the kitchen cabinets
Carrie Willard says
My proudest accomplishment lately is that my 27 weeker preemie gained 3 ounces in the past 3 days which like your little guy is a struggle for him. He’s had a tough time putting weight on since he got home from the hospital and off feeding tubes. Yes mama’s milk!

Ok, third try! I am not sure why my whole comment here didn’t post, just the part about accidentally posting my comment under the Sonic shakes post. So, I used to tackle my whole ironing pile at once, but these days I just have to iron a few items at a time as I am able. It felt so good to get to the bottom of the pile!

Just normal mom things – made breakfast and lunches, picked up the house, 2 loads of laundry, vacuumed, swept the kitchen floor, dishes, changed bedding, cleaned out under the kids’ beds, exercised, went to work for 3 hours, finished a book I was reading, took 1 child to music lessons, the other 2 to the playground, helped with homework and practicing violin, went to my hair appointment, made some summer plans, and planned Easter dinner. Hubby made and cleaned up dinner, so it was an easy evening!

I’m so happy I worked on cleaning my car today. I found my fiance’s winter jacket that we have been looking for all winter long. I know he probably won’t wear it till this fall but it really saved us some money because he was getting ready to purchase a new one. It was nice to be outside even though I was cleaning my car yesterday.
Julie says
Spring fever was on the air. A few extras I got done today were: I cleaned up the back yard, all the shredded sticks and miscellaneous that the puppy has shredded over the winter, & the “poo” since it was finally visable. Oh my, how I fooled myself thinking I had somewhat kept up with that over the winter!
Inside, I got the laundry done early so washed the comforter off my bed and hug it out to dry. Love that smell!
Thanks to the sun shining I was able to dust quickly since the dust easy to see. A quick vacuum through, after picking up toys, and books .
I fired up the grill, literally, we still use charcoal, made some hot dogs and hamburgers, some baked beans and chips for dinner and loved our pre-summer bbq!
A pretty good day.

I have a badly sprained ankle, but my children cleaned the sinks in 2 bathrooms and changed out 4 hand towels and trash cans. We all picked up the family room which had collected a lot of stuff! I crawled while I helped them. 🙂
Sarah says
My Mom is in town, and she helped me be washing all the baby’s clothes in the next size up and folding them while I cleared the old size off her shelf, folded them, and put them in away in an orderly manner so we could find them easily when the new baby comes in three months, then filled the shelf with her newly washed and folded larger clothes. I always find changing over clothes to the next size up a big task (babies change sizes so often!) so it was wonderful to have a second pair of hands to make the work go quickly and end the day with a clean shelf of clothes with room to grow and everything put away. What a great stack of books! I especially want to read The Fringe Hours.
Vee says
I cleaned up my stove top today if that counts 🙂
Helen says
I got the bathrooms cleaned today. The rest of the house got picked up.
Jen says
Well, we were having family over for dinner. Isn’t it funny how much you can get clean in a short period of time when people are about to arrive at your house? LOL. So between my hubby and me, we vacuumed the entire upstairs, swept and mopped the kitchen, and cleaned out the fridge. Today I’m going to tackle the clutter in my car!
Antonella says
I started cleaning my desk at work. It may seem light work, but since the flood we experienced the table has been a catch all for things we need to keep safe from floor level (and possible future floods). It’s not easy organizing for safe-keeping on a horizontal surface (we are not allowed to put up shelves). We’ll see how it goes 🙂
Jessie says
Today I cleaned the living room, loaded the dishwasher, started a load of laundry, cleaned the girls room, deep cleaned my sons room, and one bathroom and called it a day. I would love to win the stack of books!

First thing in the morning I fed the baby, then made Smoothies for husband and me and got the 5 year old to eat a little. In between I had sorted all our laundry and started the first load. After devotions I put the baby back to sleep and read a book to Caleb, then we played with his wooden train tack for a while. After that I needed to pick up the house and clear out the dishwasher. Then I had me some quit time, reading the bible and praying. I continued with the laundry and made lunch (Taco salad) After we had eaten it was time to clean up the kitchen again 🙂 Put away some laundry and played with the littlest a bit, then put them down for their naps (which took a while). My husband wanted to invite my family over for Pizza tonight, so I mopped the floor and wiped bathroom sink and toilet. I showered at 4 and at 4:30 the kiddos were up, so I bathed them and at 5 my parents came and all the others arrived soon. Had a fun night with family and my little niece is staying for the night. After we played around in bed a little and read a bedtime story we all went to sleep. Laundry is done, except for a dryer full of jeans and 8 shirts and a pair of dress pants that need to be ironed 🙂
Suzanne says

Today I cooked a turkey that I stocked up on from a thanksgiving grocery sale and finished the dishes from a weekend freezer cooking sessions that took me 6-7 hours. All I need to do now is label them… 🙂 And in the afternonn I help a friend organizig her papers/office. This will be a long project since there is so much stuff, but we made some progress today. A little is better than nothing. Can’ t wait to get to the final. 🙂
Beth says
I subbed for first grade today, made sugar cookie bars with green frosting for St. Patrick’s Day tomorrow, made dinner and ran my son to soccer.
Melissa Jones says
I had two overnight shifts last week and seemed to take FOREVER to get back to “normal.” Well, today was finally that day (nice since I’m in the middle of THIS week’s overnight shift!), and I managed to get up close to on time, get breakfast done in a relatively timely manner, get one load of dishes done (they’d piled up over the weekend), get school caught up with the kids, get another load of dishes done, then head to my office for a while. Then I got home and had the kids start tidying the house while I fixed dinner. We managed to get a room tidy that’s been a mess for most of two months now, plus tidy up our other public rooms. We’ve got one more area of the house to really “reclaim,” but then we’re back to our “normal” keel….which is very good since next month, I’ve got 7 overnight shifts in 15 days. It’s not going to be pretty!
But today? Today was good!
Charlotte says
I mopped the kitchen and dining room floors…didn’t have the motivation for the rest of the house though.

So proud of myself. Today I found my daughter’s missing phone! It has been lost for over a couple of weeks now, and I finally resolved myself to finding it. We had just about looked everywhere, but this afternoon an idea about its whereabouts popped into my head. Bam, there it was! It had fallen under my computer desk, most likely as it was in line to be charged or had just finished being charged. Anyhow, no one thought to look there. Finding something that had been lost gave me such a HUGE feeling of accomplishment!!! Not bad for a Monday! 🙂
Crystal Paine says
Woohoo on finding the missing phone!
Jennifer says
I didn’t accomplish much, just a load of laundry and dinner made it onto the table on time…but I made time to bring a meal to a friend this afternoon! And can I just say that with three kids of my own, my car also looks like a traveling trash can despite regular cleaning!
Brenda Deibel says

Lori says
I got so much done today! I was able to clean the living room, hallway, and kitchen. I have an exterminator coming tomorrow so I feel like I’ve been cleaning all day. My little ones got to go spend the night with grandma which was quite helpful for me today, usually after I clean one area and move on to the next the first room is already exploded with toys and books, that’s life with three under 5. Your recent posts on how helpful kids will be eventually is really encouraging because some days I don’t see it ever happening.

Pretty embarrassing, but finally put away the outside Christmas lights! All I had to do was put them in the storage tub since they’d at least been taken down at a respectable time. It only took a few minutes! So silly that I had procrastinated on the final step so long!
Margaret says
I stepped up my vacuuming and sweeping today, since my baby just started crawling and now finds every piece of dirt on the floor! And I got the homeschooling, lesson planning, and cooking done, and taught my evening class. 10 pm now and I get to relax for an hour!
I hope I win… I would love to read Fringe Hours.
Amy says
Today? Technically nothing at home, but I am on a 24-hour shift as a 911 dispatcher. Yesterday, however, my girls and I tackled our chores. Older one did the bathroom and vacuuming, little one folded laundry and Mr. Clean Magic Erasered walls and trim, and I made dinner and cleaned the fridge out. Then it was time for chore payday and brownies!

Today I was pleased to accomplish about six loads of laundry (I lost count) from start to finish. I’m due to have a baby soon, so I wanted to make sure the laundry is all caught up so no one else has to deal with it. I even matched all the socks (instead of just leaving them in the basket)!
Sarah says
Today I rearranged the furniture in our living room, which gave me the opportunity to thoroughly vacuum the floor. I was pleasantly surprised to only find three toys under the couch. 🙂 I also did three loads of laundry and played outside in the warm-ish weather with the kids, so it was a good day! As a Mom of littles (4, 2, and 1), I am so impressed by (and yes, slightly envious of) your productivity. 🙂 Hope all your sickies are better tomorrow, and that no one else succumbs!

Honestly, I don’t know how some of those things end up in the oddest places!

Taking your lead about creating a good morning routine, coupled with ideas in the book Living Well Spending Less, today was day one of my new routine. I almost nailed it. The best part was how the whole day just seemed so peaceful.
And, by evening I still had energy to spend time with our girls.

P.s. love the royals hat!!

We did a deep cleaning of the play room today. it was way overdue and sorely needed, and even though we fizzled out & did not finish putting away the last few things, it is incredibly better than when we started! the remaining things will be put away in their new homes tomorrow morning when we can start fresh.

Sharon Sandahl says
I made a casserole to put in the freezer; 5 qt sized bags, 3 for me to keep, 2 for my daughter to take home with her. I also made a special dessert for St Patricks day; brownies cut up, layered with whipped cream dyed green and flavored with mint, topped with a tsp or so of Lucky charms. I’m hoping to start making some things to put in the freezer to make suppers easier when I come home from work, I’m NOT good at that. I want to come home and do nothing!
Amanda Y. says
I took a trunk- full of items to the recycling center, and started emptying cabinets for a kitchen project. I also cleaned out my car … it is amazing how they collect junk!

Maya Andrews says
I did a bunch of laundry and went to a Dr appt for my baby.
Anissa says
Laundry, two loads fully done and put away. Dishes and washed sink to sparkling white. Managed to keep down my free DQ ice cream cone after throwing up the two bites of dinner I was able to eat. This nausea from my sore throat drainage is ridiculous. Fun family memories though and we splurged on the extra 20 cents to have the free cones dipped in chocolate! Tomorrow I am hoping I can eat because Cajun red beans, rice and smoked sausage is on the menu.
Stacey says
Clothing– that’s what I cleaned today. Washed four loads, folded five. I also cleaned out and organized my underwear drawer and email account.
Leslie says
We were busy homeschool, and therapy appts! It was a busy day, lots to do! Thanks

Kerri W. says
I love your day-in-the-life posts! As for me, I did a thorough cleaning of our duplex this morning (Monday my our typical cleaning day) and did end up doing 2 weeks worth of laundry this afternoon in boiling weather at a laundromat that doesn’t have air conditioning. So…I think I deserve the bowl of ice cream I’m about to eat before bed. 🙂

I cleaned up the yard and garden and washed all the sheets (super excited for the first clothesline day of the year!)

Today was a busy day. Work, 4 mile run, went to a special ” read with your student” program for my 2nd grader, and then a long time friend who I haven’t seen for a few months stopped by. We have 11 kids between the two of us and we are always busy! I let the cleaning go and visited with her for hours. It was so nice and needed. Then kids got home from school, homework time, piano time, reading classes and tutoring and family night tonight. Because of the busy day, my house is a little extra messy tonight, but it was worth it. I guess I did manage to clean out the fridge, because I used leftovers to make our dinner!
JessicaE says
I got the entire house mopped and some weeding done. Did some extra chores that were on the to-do list for tomorrow and created some time tonight for ‘doing nothing’ once the kids were in bed, which I love. 🙂
Thanks for the giveaway! Hope your family feels better soon.
Mary says
I cleaned out my daughter’s closet today, too. It felt good to purdge clothes that were torn or stained, and box the small stuff up for our friends younger daughter.
I was also very proud to drive my kids to music lessons for the first time since Nov. I had to have my right hip and femor reconstructed and it has taken this long to be able to drive to all my kids activities. I used to complain about driving but I actually missed while I was recovering. The kids tell me a lot while we are driving around. It can be a very sweet time. I’m so happy to have it back.
Our dinner conversation tonight was about your ‘dare’ to look for the good and praise worthiness in others. It was great to hear my 4 kids thoughts on what that could look like in their realationships. I can’t wait to see how they implement the positive outlooks we discussed.
All in all it was a great day!! Tomorrow I tackle the playroom.
Debbie L. says
I got several things done today but one of the things I tried out was a She Reads Truth devotional, which I learned about from you. I need something to keep me consistently in the Word and am giving this a try. Enjoyed my time today.

Monday is recovery day for me but I did get all 3 healthy meals and snacks served (9×4=36!), exercised for a half hour, made my meal plan/grocery list and oversaw home education plus reading aloud. Daughter took kids for free DQ cones but I stayed home for my THM ice cream. 🙂
Would LOVE to win the Gluten-free artisan bread book; we have 4 GF people here now and need to streamline our GF bread making. Phew it takes a good bit of time and money!
melanie says
Today I learned why many many families have a “no feet on the couch” rule. I scrubbed our couch today in other words, lol. Actually, I accomplished a lot today and the best part was getting to have the windows open and get outside with the kids 🙂
Leah Spencer says
I did some grocery shopping. 🙂
Elizabeth says
The kids spent the entire day outside and then we “cleaned”out the refrigerator by eating leftovers for dinner. Finally we put on some music and tidied up misplaced items.

I exercised, read my devotional, did one load of laundry, did one load of dishes, took out trash, and cooked a meal. It felt like a day when I didn’t get much of anything done but writing it down, it’s more than I thought.
Anna says
We’re battling sickness at our house now too, so we had a more laid back day. Laundry, school, a little office work (I work from home), walked outside for 3 miles in this beautiful weather, played some basket ball with my boys, baked cookies, made a steak dinner and gave myself a pedicure!
Kirsten dalton says
we just moved aCross the country and are expecting baby number five in a few weeks! Spent the day unpacking boxes, assembling furniture, and organizing things. We bought a fixer upper and just finished repainting the whole interior, ripping out and replacing bathrooms, repairing plumbing and electric, etc. I’m one tired mama! 🙂

We finally hit 60 degrees in Michigan today so, after I watched a YouTube repair video and fixed the rattle in our vacuum, I cleaned several window sills and left the windows open for the first time this spring!
Rachael says
I didn’t accomplish much after an almost sleepless night with sick kiddos, but we did manage to get some school done and everyone got fed! 🙂
Debbie says
I was able to catch up on some things at work that I did not get completed last week. This evening I helped my son clean out his school binder and listened as my daughter discussed the first night of a new weekly Bible study she is attending with friends. They are still contemplating which study to begin. Any suggestions of one for girls ages 14 – 16?
Jennifer says
My husband and I enjoyed a rare night out sans children. He offered to take me to a movie but I opted for two hours of quiet browsing at Barnes and Noble. Bliss! I tried looking for “undone” but I didn’t see it there. I would love to read it! I also dedicated some time to creativity and refinished our hand me down kitchen table that was in sad shape. It looks great now and cost me abou $15 to make it look brand new. Yay!
Lawana Gray says
I folded and put away almost all the laundry!
Stephanie says

I organized my linen closet, marking items for a garage sale in April. (I took return address labels, typed prices on them using two prices per label and then I cut them in half. It was so fast and so much better than hand writing all the labels.) I washed laundry and hung it on the line to dry, including all of our bedding. I washed the van and vacuumed it, along with vacuuming our car. I swept the garage too. We also had steak, baked potatoes and green beans for supper. Also had some fun with the kids at the park and on bike rides. Good day on spring break!
Melissa says
I want to read all those books! 🙂

I cleaned the sink today! With a 9 month old, a 3 year old and a 7 year old, the sink never seems to stay clean long. Today I timed it. 30 minutes. That’s how empty it was.
My accomplishments today were being present though and enjoying the sunshine with the kids instead of cleaning and worrying about the mess inside like I normally do.
Kaitlin says
I put our half bath back together after being painted this weekend and I picked up branches from all the bushes we trimmed this weekend. Not my usual Monday chores!

Busy, but successful day at my house! Completed 5 loads of laundry, reorganized the kitchen pantry, and reorganized one of our freezers. All of this with the help of our 18 month old. After I picked up the 5 older kids from school, we completed homework, chores, supper and then helped daddy sand the new triple beds he’s building for the girls room. Busy, but a great day!!

I’m looking forward to HEAV, too!

I accomplished sitting! Really. I had plenty to keep me busy today (esp during kiddos naptime) but my mom was over and instead of just trying to get things done while chatting I actually took the time to just sit and focus on the conversation. And after she left, I sat again to enjoy my devotions 🙂 there were also plenty of little things I accomplished, but this was the one that took the most effort for me. Hehe
Jacks says
We have a brand new little baby at our house so pretty much all this momma accomplished was baby laundry and sterilizing pumping equipment and baby bottles (over and over and over)…but I am learning to “lower my expectations” for this season of life and just enjoy my little man who I know won’t be little for long
Lizzie says
good for you momma~ ((hugs)) I had to pump for my little guy for 3 months! It’s hard work.
Lisa Guyer says
We got our house “mainly” in order to start our day tomorrow. It’s so hard to stay up a little later and get that done each night but it’s so worth it in the morning to wake up and not feel behind before you even get started.

Your family sounds infectious. I hope you don’t get sick 🙂
